LOW All-Star Wrestling (Episode 69) - WMC-TV5 Studios - Memphis, TN (Card #1102)
Announcers: Lance Russell & Dave Brown
Bullet Points:
* IWA Commissioner David Marquez was in studio to discuss important business with announcers Lance Russell and Dave Brown. He said that it was that time of year again, time for the annual IWA King of Trios event. Marquez revealed the following locations for the three-night event: The Palmer Center in Easton, PA – Night One (Card #1108), Goodwill Fire Association Hall in Reading, PA – Night Two (Card #1109) and The 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA – Night Three (Card #1110). He said that in addition to the tournament the annual Rey De Voladores will be held along with Jay Lethal defending the IWA Heavyweight title on the final night. The following were the first-round matches announced for King of Trios along with Rey De Voladores, the latter of which take place on night two and three.
* Lance Russell announced the big news that Episode 70 of LOW All-Star Wrestling will feature an A Block match in the ongoing Kings Road United Real World Tag League tournament with The Fantastics taking on Mr. Fuji & Mr. Saito. Dave Brown said that it is exciting to have ASW host such a match in the tournament which will conclude at the Seibu Dome (Card #1150).
Talking Points:
* Bullet Club leader “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles appeared in a pre-taped interview following the recent Tokyo Dome show. Styles, coming off his huge PWI Invitational Cup Tournament win at WrestleCade 11, was extremely confident that he would lead the Bullet Club into a new era. He called “The Elite” members of the group, LOW Junior Heavyweight champion “The Cleaner” Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks, the “junior members” and said that he, Adam Cole and “Hangman” Adam Page will make an example out of them when the Bullet Club goes head-to-head at King of Trios. He vowed to not only win King of Trios but to also become the next LOW World Heavyweight champion at the expense of Andre the Giant. His confidence is so high that he requested that his world title match take place at Castle Hall in Osaka, Japan (Card #1114) just days after King of Trios concludes. Styles referred to himself as the “face that runs the place” and said that he will make history by winning King of Trios, winning the LOW World Heavyweight title and ending the undefeated streak of that “freak” of a champion.
* PWI Editor Bill Apter was featured in a brief pre-recorded interview with Bruiser Brody in the locker room following WrestleCade 11. Brody was in a sour mood but reserved as he spoke about his loss to Andre the Giant in their LOW World Heavyweight title match. Brody regretted going full bore at Andre, especially after he was attacked in the aisle by Kevin Sullivan and his Army of Darkness before the match. He said that the pre-match attack likely affected his overall performance and that Andre had better hope he doesn’t get another crack at the belt. Apter then asked him about the Army of Darkness drawing an angry reaction from Brody who got up and left with some parting words – “they’re done!”
Quick Results:

Match Highlights:
Manager Jim Cornette harassed Lance Russell & Dave Brown at the announce table while his Midnight Express displayed great teamwork in their win over Jim Powers & Ricky Landell. He said that the powerful attorneys employed by “Mama Cornette” have secured his men a shot at the LOW World tag team titles in Pensacola, FL (Card #1104) and that with Road Warrior Hawk injured it will be a “piece of cake” winning the belts. He said that Road Warrior Animal has been forced to team with his manager, “Precious” Paul Ellering, so the Legion of Doom can kiss those belts goodbye…Former CWA star Nick Bockwinkel, who has signed a contract with Golden Age Wrestling, looked strong in his count out win over The Hobo. Bockwinkel roughed up The Hobo by the announce table, referring to him as “rubbish”, and after a back suplex on the floor he returned to the ring to get the win. Bockwinkel returned to the announce table post-match and said that his main goal in GAW is to avenge his “cheap loss” to “The Solid Man” William Muldoon during the PWI Invitational Cup Tournament.
A surprise tag team debut saw The Sicilians (Lou Albano & Ilio DiPaolo) of Golden Age Wrestling defeat Wild Bill White & Bruiser Costa in a hard-fought bout. Albano, now sporting a shaved beard and a thin mustache, told Lance Russell afterward that he has left behind his managerial career to return to the ring. He called DiPaolo, a former LOW International Heavyweight champion, a great man and that he is returning to his roots in tag team wrestling…The “Rapmaster” P.N. News, who has signed a contract with the CWA, impressed in his quick win over Rusty Brooks in a battle of the big men. News even had rap music play as he came off the top rope with his Broken Record finisher…The expiration of time match between S.D. Jones and the “Duke of Dorchester” Pete Doherty was a real barn burner. It went back and forth until Jones, with little time left in the program, nailed the “Duke” with a Headbutt for a popular win.
The always irritating “Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart made a surprise appearance after fellow PCW star the Masked Superstar battled to a frustrating time limit draw with Lash Leroux. The Superstar nearly lost the bout late when Leroux executed the Whiplash. Hart spoke briefly with the masked man at ringside and then went to antagonize his old rival Lance Russell. Hart claimed that he is reviving his First Family in PCW after the Gilbert’s were run out of town by the Armstrong’s and that his first client is going to be the Masked Superstar. Russell tried to cut him off but Hart continued ranting and saying that this is just the first step to him returning to managerial glory. Russell looked exasperated as Hart finally stopped talking but not before calling him “banana nose” for old times’ sake.
Vignette:
The broadcast ended with a mysterious video shot in what looked to be a desert, possibly Death Valley in California. A man in a hooded cloak carrying a scepter with a skull on it began a strange chant. In the distance two figures could be seen watching from a mountainside. The hooded man twisted and turned before raising an object towards the sky, an object that closely resembled the legendary Eye of Tyr. Suddenly there was a lightning burst and a dark shadow appeared in the clear blue sky as the hooded man dropped to one knee. A man appeared in front of him wearing a black coat and a red shirt adorned with gold buttons. The man raised his head and revealed himself as none other than the infamous Sly Drury, a competitor from a distant galaxy that was once brought to CHIKARA by that same Eye of Tyr. It then became apparent that the hooded man was none other than Ultramantis Black, the man responsible for originally bringing Drury and some of his cohorts to LOW after opening a portal with the Eye of Tyr. It was a shocking scene made even more unsettling as Ultramantis exclaimed “Welcome, Boss!” as Drury held up a briefcase with the logo of Lucha Underground emblazoned on it. The two were then joined by a fearsome sight in “The Machine” Brian Cage and a solidly built masked man identified as the Matanza. Ultramantis called for a vehicle which pulled up with three unidentified figures inside and they drove off. Meanwhile, the camera panned over to the mountainside where it was revealed that the men watching this scene unfold were Konnan and a masked man referred to as Prince Puma. Another figure, wearing an Aztec headdress, appeared behind them and was revealed as none other than seven-time LOW World Heavyweight Champion Mil Mascaras. The three men touched fists and watched as the vehicle drove off into the distance. Lucha Underground is coming…
