LOW Lucha Underground - The Temple - Boyle Heights - Los Angeles, CA (Card #1130)
Announcers: Matt Striker & Ultramantis Black
* The camera panned slowly over the desk of Sly Drury, the Boss of Lucha Underground, revealing some items that looked like they came from a different universe. Voices were heard and smoke filled up the video screen, smoke from the rich Cuban cigar hanging out of the mouth of Che Cabrera of The Crew. Sasha Darevko sat in a chair drinking vodka while Bateman, coming off a huge win over Matanza, sat in Drury’s chair with his feet up on the desk. All three were bragging about how they would beat Matanza tonight and enter Aztec Warfare while sending the monster into isolation in his prison cell. Their boasting suddenly stopped when Drury, accompanied by Ultramantis Black, burst into the room.
Clutching at the Eye of Tyr hanging from the chain around his neck, Drury angrily ordered the three to get away from his desk. Ultramantis attempted to be a calming voice and insisted that The Crew were merely celebrating the win by Bateman, something that they would duplicate tonight. Drury accepted that but said that his desk is off limits to everyone, especially The Crew. Bateman apologized and said that in honor of Drury they would win the match over Matanza and advance to Aztec Warfare where they would work as a unit and win the match. Drury laughed and said that as The Boss of Lucha Underground he makes the rules and that there would be a new rule for the match with Matanza: if the monster wins he goes to Aztec Warfare, as previously noted, but if The Crew win then only the one who scores the fall will go to Aztec Warfare. The Crew looked at each other perplexed as Drury laughed and ordered them out of his office. Ultramantis asked him why he did that and Drury responded coldly “Because I like doing things like that” ...
Quick Results:
1) Delirious defeated Samuray Del Sol
(Pinfall – Shadows over Hell, a diving splash to the back)
* Saturyne was working out in the backstage gym area when a winged shadow appeared overhead frightening her. She quickly headed for the exit but bumped into Dalton Castle and The Boys who were on their way in. Castle asked her what was wrong and she said nothing and quickly ran off saying she had a match. Castle shrugged his shoulders and went to the weight bench where he feigned lifting a barbell that was being lifted by The Boys on either side of him. When he was finished he let out a deep breath and said that now he was ready for Aztec Warfare…
2) Ruby Raze defeated Saturyne
(Pinfall – Soul Eater, a spear)
* Saturyne was visibly shaken after her loss to Ruby Raze, namely because of the ringside appearance of Marty “The Moth” Martinez. She lost her concentration and that allowed Raze to blast her with the Soul Eater for the victory. Martinez tried to corner Saturyne in the ring afterward but she managed to escape only to run into a winged masked woman in the aisle. She fell backward in fear as the winged woman stood over her laughing. Martinez grabbed Saturyne by the hair and dragged her down the aisle as the woman followed them. Backstage the woman revealed her name as Mariposa and said that Saturyne was going to be her next victim. Mariposa and Martinez moved in on her when suddenly Dalton Castle ran in and made the save. He battered Martinez driving him head first into the wall and slamming a chair across his back while Saturyne backed up into a corner. When Castle was finished he turned to confront Mariposa but she was gone. Saturyne pointed up and Castle looked only to see a winged shadow disappearing…
3) Halcon Oro defeated Delavar Daivari
(Pinfall – Springboard Legdrop)
4) Handicap Match: Matanza defeated The Crew (Bateman, Che Cabrera & Sasha Darevko) by DQ
* Sly Drury emerged from his office following the match and held up the Eye of Tyr which seemed to put Matanza in a trance. He then chastised The Crew for “blowing it” as they were disqualified for gang attacking Matanza with chairs outside the ring. Drury said that he is a man of his word and that Matanza would now be competing in Aztec Warfare. The losing team, he said, would instead pay the penalty of being locked up in the cell meant to contain Matanza. The Crew took off in separate directions after that announcement with Bateman and Cabrera escaping but Darevko was caught by Matanza who destroyed him before carrying him off. Drury looked on laughing as one could imagine the fate that awaited Darevko…
5) Dante Fox defeated Lio Rush
(Pinfall – Lo Mein Pain, a jumping Moonsault slam from the top turnbuckle)
6) Mil Mascaras defeated Excalibur
(Pinfall – Crossbody Attack)
* Sly Drury, back inside his office, was pondering his decisions when suddenly Catrina, the manager of Mil Muertes, appeared in front of him. She slinked around his desk and touched his chin before reaching for the Eye of Tyr. Drury grabbed her hand and told her that no one controls that power but him. She laughed and said that he has no idea what the true power of the object is. He balked at that and asked her what she wanted. She responded that she has what she wants, Muertes entering Aztec Warfare at number twenty with a chance to get a shot at LOW World Heavyweight champion AJ Styles. She said that after Muertes wins Aztec Warfare and goes on to win the LOW World Heavyweight title that the world will belong to them, including the Eye of Tyr. Drury tried to respond but she was gone. A little shaken, the Boss went out the door into the arena and took great delight in introducing the next match between “so-called friends” Jerry Lynn and Rob Van Dam. He joked that the loser would be out of Aztec Warfare but the winner would have to stay in the ring to start out the match as entrant number two facing entrant number one – Prince Puma…

W) Hallowicked
Match Highlights:
Aztec Warfare proved to be nothing short of dramatic and in the end, it was a tag team specialist, Hallowicked, that emerged as the winner. The victory by the “Nightmare Warrior” puts him in line for a shot at the LOW World Heavyweight title, currently held by AJ Styles, when Lucha Underground returns to The Temple (Card #1142). Hallowicked was the sixteenth person to enter the twenty-man match, which also featured ladies’ stars Leva Bates and “Latina Sensation” Mercedes Martinez, and pulled off a surprise elimination of his own tag team partner Frightmare during the battle. Frightmare was initially upset with the elimination but came back after the match to congratulate his Incoherence partner. Facing off against Hallowicked in the finals was “The Darewolf” PJ Black who was something of a tour de force during the chaotic battle. Black led the field with four eliminations, including ousting the monster Matanza following a 450 Splash and the equally large Tursas, “The Machine” Brian Cage and Crossbones. The battle between the final two was quick but intense ending with Hallowicked making a counter and blasting Black with the Yakuza Kick for the pin.
Hallowicked was joined in the ring post-match by Sly Drury, the Boss of Lucha Underground, Ultramantis Black and his allies Frightmare and Tursas. Drury heaped praise on Hallowicked and said that unlike The Crew his alliance with Frightmare and Tursas has proven to be formidable. Drury also joked that Bateman and Che Cabrera were still running while Matanza may be having Sasha Darevko for dinner. He said that Lucha Underground can now be proud to have a great athlete like Hallowicked at the top of the mountain and vowed that he will be the next LOW World Heavyweight champion.
As for the rest of Aztec Warfare, the most telling part was the failure of the monstrous Mil Muertes to win the match even though he came in at number twenty. Backed by his manager Catrina, Muertes entered the match with a very large field of nine competitors still involved. That may have been a disadvantage as soon enough he found himself locked in a very violent battle with Matanza. Catrina tried to will her man to victory but Muertes wound up being eliminated by Matanza after being leveled with the Wrath of the Gods, a spinning reverse powerslam. It was a shocking moment and an angry Muertes and Catrina remained at ringside despite Lucha Underground officials doing their best to get them to leave. Matanza made it to the final three but was eliminated by Black which led to more violence. Muertes pulled Matanza out of the ring and the two gargantuan stars traded blows all over ringside while Black and Hallowicked fought inside the ring.
Sly Drury spoke with PWI Editor Bill Apter in an exclusive post-show interview and said that on the night of Hallowicked’s historic challenge for the LOW World Heavyweight title he has also sanctioned two more main event matches – Matanza vs. Mil Muertes and Prince Puma & Rob Van Dam vs. Mil Mascaras & Jerry Lynn. He said that the former is a match that everyone wants to see while the latter is his own personal dream match, four fan favorites forced to compete against each other with nothing to gain. He said that in the past he has offered special opportunities to winners but that those four don’t deserve one and it would just be a chance for him to watch them beat each other up.
Drury laughed as he brought up RVD having to beat Lynn in what was a stellar match but having no time to rest as he had to remain in the ring for Aztec Warfare to start and then he crushed Puma’s dreams by eliminating him before the third man even entered the ring. Apter questioned Drury about his decision making and he responded that the Eye of Tyr gives him “absolute power” and that ingrates like Puma and RVD will now be forced to team together after Puma was eliminated by RVD from the match. He also joked about both Lynn and Mascaras missing out on Aztec Warfare taking direct losses to RVD and Puma, respectively. Drury called it “brilliant decision making” and said that he looks forward to how it will all play out in The Temple.
