IWA - Streets of Fire - Frontier Fieldhouse - Chicago Ridge, IL (Card #1129)
* IWA Commissioner David Marquez welcomed the crowd to another big night of action and made the major announcement that IWA Supercard of Honor 3 will be taking place at the legendary Fenway Park in Boston, MA (Card #1149). He then said that he had something to take care of and he called out former IWA Heavyweight champion “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush. The crowd cheered the arrival of the CHIKARA founder who shook hands with Marquez. Quackenbush thanked him for the time and said that while his mind was set on the big trios match he is involved in later he needed some answers concerning “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert. He asked Marquez for a match with Gilbert anywhere he could schedule it. Marquez said that he could not make that happen since Gilbert is a free agent and not under any kind of contract with the IWA. He added that Gilbert was an invited guest of On The Mat color commentator Larry Dallas and that unless he physically involves himself there is not much he can do to keep him from attending IWA events as a spectator or invited guest.
Quackenbush got upset saying that Gilbert not only burned him with a fireball at King of Trios but cost him his recent match with IWA Heavyweight champion Kevin Steen. Marquez said that he understood where he was coming from adding that he had no power to book a match without Gilbert being under contract. It was a tense situation made even more tense as a smiling Gilbert showed up wearing a CHIKARA t-shirt while carrying a bottle of pop and a bag of popcorn. He waved at Quackenbush and took a seat front row ringside. Quackenbush went after him but was pulled back by Marquez as IWA officials quickly ran in front of the area where Gilbert was sitting. Marquez told Quackenbush to cool down and ignore Gilbert before things got out of control. He said that he would do his best to negotiate a contract with Gilbert to book a match between the two. That was what Quackenbush needed to hear and he left the ring as a smiling Gilbert waved at him from behind the wall of IWA officials.

Match Highlights:
Streets of Fire was an appropriate subtitle for a card that featured chaotic action throughout the night. A title changed hands, another epic title match wowed the crowd and a Texas Tornado tag team main event just about stole the show but it was a non-contracted wrestler that made the headlines. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert, formerly of Pacific Coast Wrestling, once again invaded the IWA and made life miserable for “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush. At the start of the show he taunted Quackenbush from a ringside seat while the CHIKARA founder attempted to get IWA Commissioner David Marquez to sanction a match between the two. Later, as Quackenbush hit the ring to team up with Paul London & Brian Kendrick against IWA Heavyweight champion Kevin Steen and IWA tag team champions Jay & Mark Briscoe, Gilbert was still in his seat waving an IWA foam finger and taunting him at every opportunity. Quackenbush found it hard to concentrate on the match but did his best out of respect to his tag team partners.
The trios match was incredible and featured a dramatic turn of events as the Briscoes hit the Doomsday Device on London but Steen, having executed a blind tag, dove in to make the pin. London somehow kicked out just before the three count to a big pop from the crowd. Steen looked bewildered and turned to see the Briscoes looking pissed off at him. Moments later the brothers left the ring and headed to the back leaving Steen by himself in a three-on-one situation. Quackenbush took advantage and had Steen pinned with the Quackendriver II but Gilbert hopped over the guard rail and pulled the referee out of the ring breaking up the pin. The referee immediately called for help and IWA officials dragged Gilbert off. The match resumed and Steen took a beating but somehow avoided defeat. Gilbert made his way back to ringside attempting to throw a fireball at Quackenbush but London cut him off. That distraction allowed Steen to turn things around on Kendrick planting him with a Fisherman Buster onto the Knee to score the pin. Between Gilbert evading IWA officials to again interfere and Steen winning down three-to-one it was a bad night for Quackenbush who no doubt will be putting real pressure on Marquez to get a match signed with “Hot Stuff”.
The Shield (Tyler Black & Drew Galloway) avenged the injury to their teammate, Jon Moxley, by defeating Randy “Macho Man” Savage & Diamond Dallas Page in a wild Texas Tornado tag team match. The action was all over the place in this incredible main event which saw a fired-up Savage tearing into both foes. DDP also got in some good offense but it was the teamwork of The Shield that would pay off in the end. The finishing sequence saw Galloway nail Savage with the Scot Drop before taking DDP to the outside. Black, who was on the receiving end of an attack by DDP moments earlier, recovered and caught Savage with Paroxysm to score the pin.
The thirteen title defense run of Blackjack Mulligan as the LOW Tex-Arkana Television champion came to an end as he defended the belt against “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce in the main event of IWA On The Mat. James “Main Event” Morgan, who lost to Mulligan in a recent title bout, joined announcers Gavin Loudspeaker and Larry Dallas at the announce table. Mulligan dominated most of the way and had Pearce in serious trouble when Morgan got involved. He handed Pearce a weapon, which looked to be a literal blackjack, and he nailed Mulligan with it out of view of the referee as they battled on the floor. Pearce then rolled the near unconscious Mulligan back in and hit his trademark Jumping Piledriver to score the pin. Pearce was crowned the new champion but had little time to celebrate as Mulligan recovered and hit him with a big lariat. Morgan tried to run off but Mulligan grabbed him and locked on the Claw Hold until IWA officials could break him loose…In the other title match on the card, Tiger Mask retained the IWA J-Crown title turning back the challenge of former champion Will Ospreay. The “Aerial Assassin” took Tiger Mask to the limit, including scoring near falls with the Essex Destroyer and Jump Tuck Pray, but a missed top rope dive turned the tide. Tiger Mask took advantage of the situation and caught Ospreay with the Tiger Suplex to score the pin in his version one title defense.
Injury Report:
* Tommaso Ciampa will miss several weeks of action with a back-injury courtesy of a double-team attack by Eric Watts and Jaka. The two put Ciampa through a table with a double D.N.R., a spinebuster, following their loss to Ciampa and Johnny Gargano.
* Brodie Lee will be out of action for several weeks due to concussion symptoms courtesy of a chair shot attack by Eddie Kingston. This came as the result of Lee earlier interfering in Kingston’s bout with Lance Hoyt. Lee and Hoyt, members of the Pringle Dynasty, put the boots to Kingston until Bryan Danielson made the save. Later, after Danielson won via snake eyes disqualification over Lee, Kingston ran in to get his revenge with the chair attack. Manager Percy Pringle III was livid over the attack and at his request Hoyt and his bodyguard Big Duke will take on Kingston and Danielson on the next IWA card.
