Welcome back to Heartland Championship Wrestling! Thanks to @kevinb for the question.
The Rankings are based on the past three months of points. jmello was nice enough to give me his scoring system which I use after each pay-per-view.
For the past couple of months, Windham was wrestling in a lot of tag matches in the Horsemen vs. So Cal Crew feud. He also lost a match to Bobo Brazil in a number one contender's match for the World Championship- so Windham fell pretty far down the rankings. After regaining the AWF title, Windham jumped to #11 in the rankings, and next month he will be easily back in the top ten.
Thanks again for the question!
The show opens with the tune, "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister playing overhead. EPICDAVE stands in the center of the ring, reviewing a handful of 3X5 cards. The crowd cheers as EpicDave waves and takes the microphone.
EpicDave: Hey, fans! Welcome to Heartland Championship Wrestling. It is a tremendous honor to be here in the Omni Coliseum in Atlanta on behalf of the Atlantic Wrestling Federation. Things have been a little chaotic here in the AWF in recent weeks. As you know, a few of the AWF talent have been bought out by Patriot Championship Wrestling! AWF has lost THE HART FOUNDATION, THE BRITISH BULLDOGS, & SUPERSTAR BILLY GRAHAM. But the honchos here at AWF aren't gonna take this lightly. There is new talent headed this way- and tonight we have a HUGE show in store. BARRY WINDHAM is set to defend the Atlantic Heavyweight Championship tonight against THE DESTROYER! And- in the Main Event- it will be a Number One Contender's Match for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship when the 'NATURE BOY' RIC FLAIR squares off with BOBO BRAZIL. Not to mention- we're going to kick things off with a newly signed competitor in our opening match. The AWF is here and we are ready to rock- so relax, grab yourself a cold one- and enjoy the show!
BRUISER BRODY pinned OWEN HART** with a Jumping Knee Drop
RODDY PIPER & 'COWBOY' BOB ORTON defeated THE KILLER BEES (B. BRIAN BLAIR** & JUMPIN' JIM BRUNZELL) by countout after Orton dropped Blair on the arena floor with a neckbreaker
Piper and Orton were at their brutal best in their tag team debut. Orton punished Blair on the arena floor and dropped him with a nasty neckbreaker. Blair was unable to return to the ring, and his partner Brunzell went ballistic! Brunzell came after Orton and drilled Orton from behind with a running dropkick! Orton careened off the ringpost and awkwardly across the steel steps, finally coming to rest on the floor, grasping his knee and writhing in pain.
EpicDave: Oh no! Orton is down! You might say he had it coming- but nobody wants to see a guy get injured like that. And don't think for one minute that there won't be a price to be paid for that move. Now- let's get back to action!
'MACHO MAN' RANDY SAVAGE pinned FINLAY** with a Flying Elbow Smash
NIKOLAI VOLKOFF & ALEXIS SMIRNOFF defeated WILD BILL CURRY**** & FLYING FRED CURRY**** when Smirnoff pinned Fred after a Power Body Slam
ATLANTIC HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP: #1 CONTENDERS' MATCH
ERNIE 'THE BIG CAT' LADD** pinned MR. WRESTLING II*** after a big boot to the face
EpicDave: That's a huge win for Ernie Ladd- he has lost his manager, but he has pulled himself back into a fighting state of mind and he has earned a shot at the Atlantic Heavyweight Championship! All right, fans- we are on a roll here tonight and it's only getting better from here. The rest of tonight's action will be broadcast on the Epic Sports Broadcasting Network!
SGT. SLAUGHTER** defeated THE IRON SHEIK**** by submission with the Cobra Clutch
It was a classic battle between two hated rivals. Heavy blows reigned down from both sides, and the Sheik did damage with his loaded boots. But Slaughter kept in the fight, inside the ring and out, and the Sergeant delivered the decisive blow with a steel chair shot on the arena floor. The referee allowed action to continue, and Slaughter clamped on the Cobra Clutch to deliver the victory.
EpicDave: Congratulations to the Sarge on a hard-fought win. What a battle! I recognize as a commentator that it is my job to remain neutral- but is there a red-blooded American anywhere that doesn't look up to this great American role model?
ATLANTIC HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
BARRY WINDHAM (c) (w/JAMES J. DILLON) pinned THE DESTROYER*** with a Sweetwater Superplex
Windham dominated this return match from start to finish. Putting aside Destroyer's attempts to slow the match down, Windham hammered Destroyer with a flurry of lariats until Destroyer was out of commission. With Dillon rejoicing at ringside, Windham hoisted a helpless Destroyer onto the top turnbuckle and delivered a thunderous Superplex to score the clean pinfall victory.
EpicDave: That was impressive! Windham was in control all the way- and I don't believe the outcome of that match was ever in doubt. Congratulations to your reigning and defending Atlantic Heavyweight Champion! And now, fans- it's time for your Main Event of the evening!
MAIN EVENT: NWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP: #1 CONTENDER'S MATCH
BOBO BRAZIL** pinned 'NATURE BOY' RIC FLAIR****** (w/JAMES J. DILLON) with a Coco Butt
Flair and Bobo hooked up in a battle of contrasting styles. Flair quickly went to work on the left leg of Brazil, torturing the knee of his bigger opponent and taking Brazil down to the mat. Flair was able to lock in the Figure-Four, but Bobo made it to the ropes and forced the hold to be broken. Despite limping noticeably, Brazil dug deep and began wailing on Flair with fists and headbutts until Flair collapsed face-first onto the mat. Dillon jumped onto the ring apron and tossed his shoe to Flair, but Bobo picked up the shoe and bashed Dillon on the forehead! Dillon fell to the floor, and Bobo went back to work on Flair. Bobo delivered another crushing head butt to Flair, opening a gash over Flair's right eye! Flair was out on his feet, and Bobo put him down with another massive head butt that dropped Flair, and Bobo covered him for the win!
EpicDave: Wow- what a victory for BOBO BRAZIL! The big fella has earned himself a shot at the NWA World Heavyweight Championship! Bobo was in trouble early in that match- but he found a way to rally and just overpowered Flair to pick up the victory. Congratulations to Bobo for prevailing in tonight's Main Event! That's going to put Flair back at the end of the line for another World Title shot. Congratulations to the Nature Boy for a great run at the top. All right, fans- we're done here. Thanks for checking us out tonight! Heartland will be back on Wednesday Night with action from the newly organized Patriot Championship Wrestling territory. I have it on good authority that BUDDY ROGERS has been booked in the Main Event to take on DANNY HODGE. That's our show, and I AM OUTTA HERE!
Atlantic Heavyweight Champion: BARRY WINDHAM
Atlantic Tag Team Champions: THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS
Dixie Heavyweight Champion: JOHNNY VALENTINE
