The show opens with the tune, "Hang On Sloopy" by The McCoys playing overhead. EPICDAVE and VELVET SKY stand together in the ring, leading the fans in a spirited O-H-I-O cheer throughout the packed arena.

Velvet: Heartland- what is UP!?!?! We are STOKED to be here! Happy New Year to one and all. It's January 1st- and you know what that means- it's time for the 2024 Buckeye Bowl!

EpicDave: You got that right, Velvet- and you all know the drill. Thirty men will enter this match, one by one, and they will battle it out until only one man remains. And the winner gets a shot at the NWA World Heavyweight Championship! We've got eight entrants from each of the territories, and six wild cards set to enter along the way. Let's take a look at the full list of entrants:

EpicDave: And- for the first time in the history of the Heartland- the Buckeye Bowl will be broadcast in its entirety on the Epic Sports Broadcasting Network!

KURT ANGLE eliminated ANTONIO INOKI with an Olympic Slam


ENTRY #5: JACKIE FARGO (w/JIMMY HART)

Rick Rude took advatge of an opening as Angle battled Rocca. Rude brought the heads of the two competitors slamming together full force, stunning both men. Rude selected Angle as his target and dumped the Olympic Hero unceremoniously over the top.

ENTRY #6: SUPERSTAR' BILLY GRAHAM

ANTONINO ROCCA eliminated RICK RUDE by pushing Rude off the top turnbuckle

EpicDave: Rude got a little too aggressive that time and Rocca made him pay. But in the Buckeye Bowl, you gotta go all out if you want to come out victorious.

EpicDave: The first of our Wild Card entrants has hit the ring- and boy, is this gonna be a game-changer!

Velvet: That was crazy! Rocca is insanely athletic, but I can't believe he managed to eliminate a beast like Superstar Graham. And somewhere, our good friend KB is crying in his beer.


ENTRY #9: BIG JOHN STUDD (w/BOBBY HEENAN)

Velvet: Here comes trouble! And I'm not just talking about Bobby Heenan. Bog John Studd is one of the biggest men in the match- he could win it all!

EpicDave: Another Wild Card entry- and a huge addition to the Heartland! Welcome to Wahoo!


ENTRY #11: TOMMY RICH
ENTRY #12: BRYAN DANIELSON

With Heenan and Hart conspiring at ringside, Studd and Fargo set their collective sites on King Kong Bundy. But Bundy was able to fight off the attack, leaving both managers frustrated at ringside.


ENTRY #13: JOHNNY VALENTINE

Valentine hit the ring and immediately took to battling with McDaniel. Chops flew wildly, and the stinging smacks could be heard throughout the arena.

EpicDave: Wow! A historic rivalry is rekindled here in the Buckeye Bowl!

ENTRY #14: CACTUS JACK


As Wahoo and Valentine continued to battle, Antonino Rocca tried to engage with Valentine. Neither Johnny nor Wahoo was willing to let anyone else get involved, and the two rivals joined forces to send Rocca flying over the top.

Velvet: Who's he?

EpicDave: That is Hiro Matsuda! He is another Wild Card entry and a close ally of WAHOO MCDANIEL.

Velvet: Oh, no! Fargo just went right after Matsuda and dumped him out of the Buckeye Bowl.

EpicDave: Wow- Fargo is a trouble-maker on so many levels!


ENTRY #16: TERRY GORDY

Gordy hit the ring and immediately sought out Bundy. The two behemoths locked up in a spirited battle which ended with Gordy drilling Bundy with a massive Lariat for the elimination.

Velvet: Wow! Gordy didn't waste any time taking out the biggest man in the match. How badass was that?

BIG JOHN STUDD set his sights on BRYAN DANIELSON, and it was looking bad for Danielson. But WAHOO MCDANIEL came to the rescue and saved Danielson from elimination.

EpicDave: Well done, Wahoo! Rumor has it that Wahoo is headed to AWF to set up the newest chapter of JUSTICE 4 ALL. And he certainly proved his worth in that situation as Justice prevailed! And BOBBY HEENAN does not look happy about that.

A brutal struggle developed between intense rivals SGT. SLAUGHTER and JOHNNY VALENTINE, but neither man was able to score the elimination.

Slaughter took another run at Valentine, but JACKIE FARGO intervened to save Valentine, prompting a sign of relief from JAMES J. DILLON.

SGT. SLAUGHTER eliminated PAUL ORNDORFF

Velvet: Wow! Orndorff never should have stuck his nose between Slaughter and Valentine. It's a WAR!


ENTRY #26: MARK HENRY

EpicDave: He's here! The biggest man in the match has entered- and the mood has changed. The fans are going crazy- but the same cannot be said of the competitors. No one is safe now!

ENTRY #27: DANNY HODGE

EpicDave: Welcome to Danny Hodge! Hodge was the 2011 winner of the Buckeye Bowl and another of today's Wild Card entrants.

Velvet: Did you see that? WAHOO MCDANIEL just knocked TED DIBIASE out of the ring with a HUGE chop- but MENG caught DiBiase and put him back into the ring!


ENTRY #28: KEVIN STEEN

A major mishap went down as STRANGLER LEWIS tried to take out JACKIE FARGO. JIMMY HART pitched his megaphone into the ring, and it was picked up by SHAWN MICHAELS. Michaels swung the megaphone at Lewis, but Lewis dodged and Michaels nailed Fargo instead! Lewis took advantage and dumped Fargo out of the ring, leaving Hart and Fargo in a rage!

After Hodge was eliminated, BOBBY 'THE BRAIN' HEENAN jumped onto the ring apron and summoned MARK HENRY. Heenan whispered to Henry, and Henry smiled and shook his head in agreement.

Velvet: Wait- WHAT?!?!? Did Mark Henry just make a deal with Bobby Heenan?

BIG JOHN STUDD & MARK HENRY eliminated BRYAN DANIELSON

EpicDave: Holy Mackerel! Big John Studd and Mark Henry are working together! I cannot believe what I just saw!! This can't be good for the Heartland… but with Bobby Heenan as the mastermind, all bets are off.


BIG JOHN STUDD eliminated CACTUS JACK

KEVIN STEEN flew into a rage as Henry and Studd eliminated Danielson. Henry caught Steen with the World's Strongest Slam, but Steen rolled away before Henry could follow up.

MARK HENRY eliminated ED 'STRANGLER' LEWIS

BIG JOHN STUDD eliminated SGT. SLAUGHTER & WAHOO MCDANIEL


Velvet: This is insane! Henry and Studd are cleaning house!

As the action continued, Studd offered Henry a high-five. But Henry responded with a massive headbutt to Studd, stunning him! Bad News Allen took advantage, nailing Studd with the Ghetto Blaster to send Studd over the top.

EpicDave: Wait- did Mark Henry just double-cross Big John Studd? Bobby Heenan is beside himself!

Velvet: We're down to the Final Four!

EpicDave: Indeed we are! It's BAD NEWS ALLEN, BOBO BRAZIL, MARK HENRY, & KEVIN STEEN! Who will survive and win the Buckeye Bowl?

After a brief conversation, it appeared that Bad News and Henry were prepared to join forces. Bad News went on the attack, but Henry backed off and let Bad News get pummeled by Steen and Brazil. It didn't take long for Bad News go get finished off and dumped over the top.

KEVIN STEEN & BOBO BRAZIL eliminated BAD NEWS ALLEN


Henry took a seat on the middle turnbuckle, refusing to engage with Steen or Bobo. Bobo became angry, but Steen was unfazed. Steen came head-on at Bobo, and the two battled for several minutes before Steen prevailed with an amazing superkick.

KEVIN STEEN eliminated BOBO BRAZIL


Velvet: Why is Mark Henry being such a doofus? He wouldn't even fight?

EpicDave: That's right… and the fans here in Columbus are not impressed. But that doesn't matter… because it is all down to KEVIN STEEN vs. MARK HENRY for the championship of the Buckeye Bowl!

Steen went right after Henry, pummeling the big man with a flurry of hockey punches. Henry battled back, and the two big men traded fists and forearms with neither man backing down. Henry tried to hoist Steen into the World's Strongest Slam, but Steen cracked Henry with a head butt, stunning him. Steen followed with a Superkick that stunned Henry, sending the big man collapsing to the mat. Steen went for broke, climbing to the top turnbuckle and preparing to launch himself into a 450 splash. But Henry staggered to his feet, and in an incredible show of strength, Henry caught Steen coming off the top turnbuckle, and powered him over the ropes and down to the floor!

Velvet: Mark Henry is the winner!

EpicDave: Yes- ladies and gentlemen, congratulations to MARK HENRY, your 2024 Buckeye Bowl winner! Henry came in at number 26, and he put out 7 guys on his way to victory. This will definitely go down as a controversial victory, and a match that raises a lot of questions. What happened between Henry and BOBBY HEENAN? The fans seem to love Mark Henry- but some of his tactics in this match were less than honorable. In any event, Henry has earned a match for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, and he has cemented himself among the legends in the Heartland as Buckeye Bowl winners. What a memorable New Year's this has been. All right, fans- we're done here. Thanks for checking us out tonight! Heartland will be back on Saturday night with another amazing night of action, featuring the stars of the Atlantic Wrestling Federation. EpicDave: Hey, fans! Welcome to another Saturday night of wrestling, brought to you by the Atlantic Wrestling Federation. The New Year is upon us, and the beat goes on for Heartland Championship Wrestling. We have just witnessed the 2024 Buckeye Bowl- and what an incredible night it was! Congratulations once again to MARK HENRY, this year's Buckeye Bowl winner. What a strange match that was! I'm still not sure whether Henry has cast his lot with BOBBY HEENAN and BIG JOHN STUDD- or if that was a ploy that Henry executed to pave the way for his victory. So many questions were raised by that match- but tonight, it is back to business as usual here in the Heartland. Tonight's Main Event will be one for the history books. It is Two Out of Three Falls for the Atlantic Heavyweight Championship! The struggle between NICK ALDIS and 'ROWDY' RODDY PIPER will reach its climax tonight, and the title will be decided once and for all. Plus, we have the year's first Grudge Match as FLYIN' BRIAN PILLMAN is set to take on MR. SAITO. And tonight's feature matches will be broadcast on the Epic Sports Broadcasting Network. So relax, grab yourself a cold one, and enjoy the show!

It took plenty of help from BOBBY HEENAN for Studd to overcome Styles, including a nasty shot with a foreign object. After the match, Heenan stormed to the announcer's table and grabbed the microphone.

Heenan: That's my guy! BIG JOHN STUDD is unstoppable! Big John Studd is the rightful winner of the 2024 Buckeye Bowl and HE should be the guy challenging for the World Championship. Not while RIC FLAIR has the belt, of course- but that's beside the point. MARK HENRY is a two-faced, cheating, lying, no good lousy scumbag. And we're going to find him and we are going to make him pay for double-crossing Big John Studd!

Heenan throws down the microphone and storms off.

EpicDave: Wow- strong words from Bobby Heenan about the Buckeye Bowl winner. But he has one thing right- Big John Studd is a dangerous man- and Mark Henry had better have his head on a swivel. But now, fans- business is about to pick up. The rest of tonight's action will be broadcast live on the Epic Sports Broadcasting Network!

THE FLYING REDHEADS (RED BASTIEN & BILLY 'RED' LYONS*) defeated BOB ROOP** & 'COWBOY' BOB ORTON by disqualification when Roop dropped Lyons throat-first across the steel security rail

A back-and-forth match ended in a DQ victory for the Redheads. After the decision, Roop continued to pummel Lyons, leading to a four-way brawl on the arena floor. The Redheads were able to fight off the attack, and Roop and Orton left the ring area in frustration.

EpicDave: Too bad that match broke down- but it's the Redheads who will move on to a Number One Contender's match. All right, fans- a few weeks back in Mobile, we saw a nasty confrontation in the tag team division with MR. FUJI & MR. SAITO losing by disqualification to TOM ZENK & FLYIN' BRIAN PILLMAN. After the match, Zenk suffered a hip injury when Saito body slammed him into the steel ring steps. Pillman has been looking for vengeance, and he will get his opportunity here tonight.


GRUDGE MATCH- NO DISQUALIFICATION:
'FLYIN' BRIAN PILLMAN pinned MR. SAITO** with a roll-up after Saito missed a charge to the turnbuckle

Saito came to the ring cocky and sneering at Pillman, but Pillman wasn't backing down. Saito overpowered Pillman, and backed him into the turnbuckle. But Saito's overconfidence proved costly, as he missed a wild charge into the turnbuckle and Pillman rolled him up for a flash pin.

Pillman tried to roll out of the ring after the decision, but Fuji was there to stun Pillman with a chop and roll him back into the ring. Fuji and Saito began to double-team Pillman, but Tom Zenk hobbled to the ring on one crutch and managed to send Fuji and Saito scurrying for safety.

EpicDave: Wow! Zenk is definitely loyal to his partner to put himself at risk in a situation like that. I don't think these teams are finished with each other by a long shot. All right, fans- as you know, NICK ALDIS and RODDY PIPER have been battling over the Atlantic Heavyweight Championship for several months now- and after a series of battles, it all comes down to this. It's two out of three falls for the title, once and for all!


MAIN EVENT: ATLANTIC HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP- TWO OUT OF THREE FALLS
NICK ALDIS (c) vs. 'ROWDY' RODDY PIPER

First Fall: Piper and Aldis had each other well-scouted, and the opening of the match showed lots of reversals and back-and-forth action. To the surprise of the fans, Aldis was more than willing to mix it up with Piper on the arena floor. Aldis drove Piper back-first into the ring apron, stunning Piper, then Aldis wrapped Piper into the King's Lynn Cloverleaf and force Piper to tap out.

Second Fall: Piper went on the attack quickly in the second fall, putting Aldis on the defensive with an aggressive attack. With Aldis on the defensive, Piper caught Aldis with the Sleeper Hold. Aldis quickly began to fade, and chose to tap out to even the bout at one fall apiece.

Third Fall: With both men showing signs of fatigue, Piper continued on the attack, but Aldis responded with brilliant counter-wrestling. Aldis seized the momentum by dropping Piper with a Mag Daddy Driver, further weakening Piper's lower back. Aldis saw his opening, and again locked Piper into the King's Lynn Cloverleaf, and once again Aldis was able to force Piper to give it up.

WINNER: NICK ALDIS
NICK ALDIS RETAINS THE ATLANTIC HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

After the decision, Aldis offered Piper a handshake, but Piper rolled out of the ring and slapped the apron in frustration before departing.

EpicDave: Congratulations to Nick Aldis! He is your winner here tonight after a grueling Main Event. It has been quite a struggle for Aldis to secure his title after a strong challenge from Piper over the past few months in a rivalry that was often emotional for both men. Kudos to Aldis for emerging victorious and remaining your Atlantic Heavyweight Champion! All right, fans- we're done here. Thanks for checking us out tonight!
