We all know wrestling started out with omega and morpheus wrestling in the pow. But what i'm working on is how wrestling got popular in the galaxcy. My idea is for the storyline i'm working on is having an earth federation with bootleg earth wrestlers. Somewhere down the road start having alians enter the federation like some anti-men or some gladiator type wrestlers. As they get popular, they start doing shows on their home planets and soon wrestling becomes popular in the galaxcy. Then the ban on violant sports happen and the new story picks up where omega and morpheus is in the pow getting ready to form the gwf. Let me know what you think, if you guys like the idea then i'll go through with it and have a fed made up and post the results to see everything unfold. If you don't like the idea, then i'll probley not do it.

I think that's a really good and interesting idea, and it will give you all kinds of history.

Lots of Earth wrestlers with a few aliens sprinkled in... members.aol.com/wrestlingd/sets.htmGraymar

OK…the first edition of COTG starts in 2087.
Bit if you’ve played Early Classics, you know the GWF is actually founded in the 2070s,
And in the Genesis novella, we see that the ban on violent sports like wrestling and the foundation of the POW happens during the 2050s.
So, you have to assume that wrestling had become very popular throughout the galaxy before that happened. Peaking in the late 2040’s perhaps.
Taking a step back, it seems obvious that in the COTG Universe, mankind had been a space explorer and established colonies throughout our solar system for years before then. This takes time. Generations, even.
So..in a bit of alternative history retro-fitting…I would say that something happened after the first Moon Landing that pushed Earth further and faster into the stars. Myabe a new kind of propulsion system? Maybe Kennedy is never assassinated? Both?
Either way, IMO Earth lands on the Moon in 1969, pushes onward to the rest of the solar system, has well-established colonies on places like the Moon, Saturn, Mars, and Neptune by the late 80s, and probably makes First Contact with alien races by the turn of the century (2012 for all you fans of the Second Coming).
Wanna know what coincides with that timeline? That’s right. The growth in popularity of pro wrestling!
In the COTGverse, the WWF or its equivalent is probably holding Wrestlemania on the moon by 1991.
And, as contact with other species becomes more normal, pro wrestling starts showing up as entertainment on other planets (the way you can watch Japanese game shows on certain networks here in the US). It’s low-brow, simple entertainment and it translates easily across cultural lines.
But the more violent or aggressive species (like the AniMen or Aethrans) don’t like the worked aspect of wrestling. Maybe because they already have similar forms of competitive games.
But eventually you see a new form of entertainment that combines the authenticity of something like MMA or boxing with the raw showmanship of rasslin’!
And by the 2030s, you begin seeing many touring groups (maybe several dozen) of barnstormers who travel throughout the galaxy, putting on fight cards, performing in front of medium sized cards, and challenging the local champions to fights.
Think of it as something like the territorial days of the 1960s and early 70s.
A few of those groups probably become more successful, more popular, make more money, and get more well-known. And a few of the stars become famous throughout the universe!
This all happens by the late 2030s and into the 2040s.
Unfortunately the sport IS real and it IS violent, and there are probably a series of accidents and the whole universe is worn out and tired by decades of actual war (the Earth/Cygnus conflict has been going on for years ).
So the UFSP passes the ban and you are again into known COTGverse continuity.
**************************************************** That all being said, and if it makes sense to you, you would probably be looking at creating some companies that are wrestling in the 2030s, before Genesis happens, before the ban, when Earth was just barely beginning to get a foothold throughout the universe.

I've toyed with a history of Aethra....somethign I should get back to someday. One thing was that they weren't always a violent race until a rogue element from Andromeda arrived and whipped them into a fighting force.

One thing I've always wondered about in the universe of CotG is are the humanoid races: Aethrans, Titans, all the other countless planets, even Jack Hood is pretty humanoid looking despite his race's clear extra abilities, are these races descendant from Earth?
Maybe this has been answered somewhere before, but I've always wondered if these races are long distant colonies of Earth, or just alien races that seem to be humanoid. So that perhaps Aethrans, while appearing human, are not homo sapiens.

Titans are pretty clearly human ( I mean, Lord nexus has a gheri curl). Alongside what I wrote before, my guess is that Titan was one of Earth's first colonies and after several generations developed the natural agility due to the different gravity. But the other humanoid races: I guess you have to accept the sci-fi theory that carbon breathing life-forms are going to evolve along similar paths. Like Star Trek! ;D

Those were some sweet curls Nexus had going on. I figured Titans were a colony, it was mostly Aethrans I was wondering about. I think it's possible for humanoid races that are not human to be out there.
Heck, most of the alien abduction stories you hear about say the aliens are humanoid.

A lot of the reason the races are pretty humanoid is that it gets tougher to apply standing wrestling rules the more alien races become.
