Hey Everybody,
I have decided to start a WGX fed!
I’ve been playing an EC fed for a few years now and have loved it. I’ve never had this much fun with COTG. In 2007, I decided that I wanted to start a second EC-era fed so I could still use a few of the EC guys who leave the GWF, so naturally, the WGX seemed like my best bet because it took place during the 2080s. The problem was, I didn’t like many of the drawings and if I don’t like the drawing, I just can’t get into the character.
So, life got busy and I let the project fall to the wayside but about a year ago Mark Taggart started to re-draw a lot of the original WGX characters and I thought they were great! So, around this time I also started to collect a lot of bootlegs from the board to fill in spots on the roster as well as some of the L-FSCE wrestlers, and now I’m ready to go!
I plan to use this WGX fed to try out new ideas that I might incorporate into my EC fed. Thus, most of the matches will be simulated on COTG Online, but I will still play out title matches, specialty matches, and other matches which really interest me. My card recaps will be on the shorter side and more storyline-based than match results-based.
The fed will start in 2075 as the tycoon Wayne Crosby (original creator of the WGX sets) sees the success that the upstart GWF has had and decides to join in the fray and get a piece of the wrestling pie. The starting roster will consist of 22 wrestlers who are a mix of characters from the WGX sets, L-FSCE, and bootlegs. In future years certain EC/GWF castoffs and more bootlegs will enter the fed as well. Here’s a little info on each wrestler…
WGX ORIGINAL CHARACTERS
CAPTAIN FEAR – main eventer anti-hero face. Led a rebellion to overthrow the rulers of his planet, Pox, in which he succeeded in eliminating dozens of corrupt politicians in a coup. He wears a mask to protect his family, who still live on Pox. He has always stood up for the underdog.
MID-KNIGHT – main eventer face. This is Death Knight from the original COTG set back in his prime. He rarely speaks, and is often seen lurking in the shadows of the arena. He pretty much keeps to himself except for a loose alliance with the tag team Jerk & Jive. Jazz loves to have him around and poke fun at him. He is very resilient, hard to pin, and his concentration in the ring is unrivaled.
THE SHOGUNATE (KIBAGAMI & HOICHIRO) – mid-card face karate tag team. Kibagami prefers to never speak English in public. He knows many languages (including English), but prefers to speak to his partner only in their native tongue, in order to keep their plans secret from their opponents. Hoichiro, on the other hand, speaks no English. They have come to the WGX in the spirit of competition and to test their skills in battle. Kibagami is probably the only wrestler who has been known to bring his vidphone to the ring to take pictures during matches.
Hoichiro has a gentle demeanor inside the ring, wrestling with grace and he’s also a master of meditation. These two have known each other since childhood and are loyal to each other above all others.
JERK & JIVE (JAZZ & FENIX) – jobber face tag team. Jazz is a fun loving guy who worked many years as a club bouncer. He gets his fans pumped up with his lively intro music and loves to shake his hips before attempting his finisher. However, his showman style alienates certain fans as well.
While Fenix loves to pump up the crowd as well, he has a bit of a chip on his shoulder based on his tough upbringing. Thus, Fenix often is accused of being the “Jerk” and Jazz the “Jive”. Fenix can’t handle the criticism of the fans like Jazz can, and it often distracts him in the ring. Jerk & Jive maintains a loose alliance with Mid-Knight.
RED GUARD (SCAR & OBLIVION) – mid-card heel tag team. Scar wears a mask to cover up one side of his face, while a huge scar runs down the other side. The origin of these injuries is as unknown just like Scar’s background. What is known is that he’ll do anything to win a match. He walks into the ring with the arrogance of a barbarian king, yet delivers his moves with the grace and stealth of a trained assassin. He is cocky, intelligent, and extremely dangerous.
Oblivion wears an eye visor to correct his vision (and perhaps to mask his appearance). The bar code on his left arm represents that he has been in prison in the past. Many cybernetic implants can be seen on his body, including two that hold his jaw together. Rumors have spread that Oblivion was rebuilt after his spacecraft crashed when he broke out of prison. Oblivion seems to regret his alliance with Scar at times, feeling that he plays second fiddle to him.
DARK STAR (MENACE & STAIN) – main event heel tag team. These two trained in the same military squadron on their home planet of Onyx. Menace is just big and bad, holding the highest Rahl Rating of the WGX at 50. He comes from a long line of warriors, following faithfully in his father’s footsteps. He seems to have no fear or feeling, being hardcore to the bone. He is also one of the few big men who will fly from the top turnbuckle, whether it’s in the ring or through a table. Menace also doesn’t care about odds. He would attack an entire stable by himself and believe he could take them all at once (and he probably could!).
Stain is a bit self-conscious of his inability to talk (he’s mute). Stain lost his ability to talk in the training camps on Onyx when he was thirteen. He had his throat crushed by his military trainer. He recovered physically and went on to graduate in the top 10 of his squadron of over 1,000. However, he never fully recovered mentally. He often misinterprets laughter by his opponents as mockery and will attack them with fervor. Stain rarely breaks the rules, though Menace expects him to win at any costs. It’s common to see Menace verbally abusing Stain in the locker room, but the big guy just stands there and takes it.
L-FSCE CHARACTERS
BENJAMIN SHROUD – main eventer heel. In 2068, Shroud’s father gained great publicity in the media with his claim that the Earth/Cygnus War was secretly driven by financial interests from both planets. During a protest of the war, his father was shot and killed under mysterious circumstances. Shroud is now driven to avenge the death of his father and loss of America's political, social and economic well-being. He seeks to accomplish this by raising universal awareness of his philosophy of the Individual Rights Movement. His goal is to ply his athletic talent into a successful career in professional wrestling and then use the spotlight that comes with stardom as a platform to inspire purposeful action on a massive scale. Shroud carries vigilance to extremes and stereotypes those who do not share his views. He is also never at a loss for words for trying to encourage others to join his crusade.
ONE EYE – upper mid-carder heel. One Eye is a brutal individual, being a former underground fighter and smuggler of illegal narcotics. From a young age he has enjoyed throwing his substantial weight at those deemed weaker than him. An important moment in his career came with the loss of his left eye during an underground fight. He became more vicious and ruthless than ever after his physical wounds healed. The pain resulting from his disfigurement helped to escalate his desire to dominate others. He is a brawler, pure and simple. His also has no problem using illegal maneuvers or foreign objects to win his matches. He also has a remarkably high tolerance for pain, making him difficult to defeat. At 367 lbs., he’s also the heaviest wrestler on the roster.
TORO MOLDAVO – upper mid-carder jiu jitsu face. Moldavo is carrying forward the family tradition of Moldavo Jiu Jitsu, a fighting system that has revolutionized the way his society views self-defense. Made famous by Toro's grandfather, the system teaches that through proper use of leverage and distance, a weak man can defeat the strong. When Moldavo’s father was killed at the hands of a violent mob after winning a combat challenge match, his father’s dying request to him was to spread the family art across the universe so others could benefit from its legacy. This has now become Moldavo’s life purpose. Moldavo's fighting style makes him a master of submission holds, yet he lacks proficiency in brawling and deathjump maneuvers.
ANTISEPTIC – upper mid-carder hitman tweener. Antiseptic hails from a mysterious planet called Dargon. Until recently, the area was thought to be uninhabited, but further exploration revealed the presence of a former prison population. A trained assassin, Antiseptic is a tough thug that has been in out of jail for fighting in the local underground combat leagues. He has fought all over the galaxy, even traveling to Earth where he learned martial arts and became skillful in submission wrestling. With loyalty only to himself, this potential double agent doesn't care whether it’s a hero or a villain; he will take anyone out for the right price and the highest bid.
KALISTO – upper mid-carder giant tweener. Billed at 7'1", 355 lbs., Kalisto proves everything is bigger about his home planet Jupiter. He uses strength and power to topple his opponents. Even the simplest of moves are much more effective from a man of his immense size. He finishes his opponents with the GREAT RED SPOT, an elbow smash right between the eyes that may leave a “great red spot” on an opponent's forehead for days. He sets an opponent up for the finisher with the Many Moons Shiner, a closed fist right above the eye. While Kalisto doesn't really need to use the illegal move, his arrogance leads him to use it anyway.
ULENCIO – mid-carder nonconformist tweener. This is the wrestler I created for the L-FSCE project. However, the version I submitted is a bit different than what ended up being included in L-FSCE. I submitted Ulencio at a Rahl rating of 38. I was told that any characters might need to be tweaked a bit to balance the group of wrestlers. I was fine with that, figuring he might get downgraded 5 points or so. I just wanted him to be an upper mid-carder anyway. But, he was downgraded all the way to a 20. I was disappointed because I had worked so hard on the character, only for him to end up statistically as a “jobber to the stars”.
However, I figured there was no use in getting so upset about our silly little dice game when I could just use the original version myself. I actually decided to downgrade Ulencio to a 33 anyway to fit in with this WGX fed. In the L-FSCE description (which was thankfully untweaked) he is a full heel but I am starting him off as a tweener. He will go full heel (and the incident with Zarius and the referee will occur) in 2078. For now, he will just try to work his way up the ladder and see what adventures he gets himself into.
*If anyone would like my version of Ulencio, let me know and I can send you his stats.
STATIC – lower mid-carder genetic freak tweener. Some time ago, a young man named Rian developed a keen interest in fitness supplements, particularly those from a company called Genetic Industries (G.I.). The firm developed an experimental product and was looking to test it on volunteers. Rian jumped at the opportunity. Soon enough, he discovered that he had grown two inches taller and seen an increase in muscle mass. He felt stronger, faster and better than he had in his entire life. Enter the UFSP. They had concerns about G.I. and threatened to shut down the entire operation. Rian was scared about this and disappeared 1 year ago.
So, Static has recently joined the WGX. He stands at 5’9", 236 lbs, with an immense amount of power not typical for a man of his size. A standard drug test was conducted but Static passed it, so he seems to be somewhat of a genetic freak. Some wonder if Static might be Rian? Is Static a product of G.I.? He refuses to comment on that. A side effect of the genetic gifts bestowed upon Static has been a distorted sense of reality. During promos he will often hallucinate, talk to imaginary people and act in ways that are considered abnormal.
OZYMOV – jobber alien/Russian tweener. A couple years ago, a strange UFO crashed near the Ural Mountains in Russia. The spacecraft’s occupant mysteriously survived the crash. The Russians decided they would have their Olympic wrestling team train the alien to become a professional wrestler to help boost the nation’s morale. The alien was small by Russian standards but they soon noticed it had a penchant for high-flying techniques bordering on anti-gravity! The Russians named the alien "Ozymov", who absorbed all of this strange knowledge like a sponge. The Russians also instilled a bit of their disdain for Americans into their pet project. At 5’8” and 170 lbs., Ozymov is also the smallest wrestler on the roster.
HUBRIS – jobber adonis/freak heel. Hubris was an up and coming star in a smaller wrestling league. He was as a pretty boy narcissist so full of himself that his wrestling performance came second to preening in front of the crowd. Hubris’ life changed forever one night when his opponent lit a fireball right in his face. His return to action was hyped for months, but when the time finally came, everyone was in disbelief by what they saw. Hubris’ face looked very much like hamburger meat, as the fireball had done permanent damage.
The crazy thing was that Hubris played his old role to the hilt as if nothing had happened. He preened in front of a floor length mirror, flirted with ladies at ring side, and told the crowd how lucky they were to be in the presence of such beauty. Apparently the fireball incident had caused his brain to snap. He remembers nothing of the tragic event and acts as though it never took place. It is impossible to tell whether it's an act or if his mind has snapped and only sees what he wants to see.
DIABLO KILL SQUAD (NOOSE & SLIPKNOT) – mid-carder cowboy tag team. Renegades who are out for themselves as a unit. They hail from the planet Carina, where the state sponsors the killing of abandoned children. This is a highly controversial public policy that is done in the name of the "public good". The “slay squads” are designed to lessen crime by pre-emptively targeting those most likely to commit it. After serving as members of a slay squad, Noose and Slipknot eventually joined a wrestling promotion on Carina’s capital region of Diablo. The unique aspect of this promotion was that it featured only tag team matches, which is the style the DKS has become accustomed to. Their style involves the bullying and intimidation of opponents by any means necessary. There is a science to their attacks and strategic double-teams are a key part of their arsenal. In fact, they are so focused on tag team wrestling that Noose and Slipknot are each pretty sad to watch in singles action.
BOOTLEG CHARACTERS
ZARIUS – mid-carder honorable face. This is the man who becomes the original Code Enforcer in the GWF. Since I decided to start Ulencio as a tweener and play his scenario with Zarius out in 2078, I figured I actually needed for Zarius to be a wrestler in the WGX, so I created a card for him loosely based on the Code Enforcer and Euritar (his son) cards. Zarius hails from Scorpius and sticks to the rulebook. He wrestles with honor and like Ulencio, he is simply making his way up the ladder and seeing what awaits him in the future.
So, there you have it! Let the WGX begin!
