After almost a year of life getting in the way, I finally picked up the dice and held BattleZone X this weekend.

It was a GREAT show with a BIG surprise. I will post the results shortly...

BattleZone X (Card 292)

The show starts with Screw in the ring with the Mic…

Screw: Welcome to the tenth annual BattleZone!! I know what it is like to endure the rigors of this painful match. I won it back in ’79…

A video package of BattleZone V was shown, ending with Screw pinning Star Warrior to win the event.

Screw: That was, without a doubt, the highlight of my career. Tonight, someone else will have a career-defining moment and join the greats like myself, Mangus (a short package of the first BZ played), Bullwhip (BZ II), Omega (BZ III), Torin Caelum (BZ IV), the only rookie to ever win it, Grogan (BZ VI) or last year’s winner, Hechilles (BZ IX). Maybe someone will even join Jammer as the only repeat winner.

Well, lets get this thing started…

The first contestant tonight won the BattleZone as a rookie back in 2080. He won the Rookie of the Year honors that year and has since gone on to win the Galactic Belt 2 times and he won the Year End Tourney two years ago. Last season, he had an incredibly impressive 19 wins while winning the Challenge Division…

Our final former BattleZone winner competing tonight won it the year before I won mine. He has been Wrestler of the Year twice, won the Tourney once, the Gold Division twice, Challenge once and the Galactic Belt a record NINE times. Like the other two BattleZone winners tonight, he has also taken home the Big Bang trophy once. Our third contender…

Screw left the ring and the bell rang…

The match started slowly with most wrestlers just feeling out the situation, and basically attempting to avoid DSC. Omega and Morpheus exchanged a few blows and the crowd went wild. Mimic stood in the corner and observed mainly. Grogan went after him, but Mimic evaded the attack enough to cause Grogan to go after Sam instead.

DSC was really showing the turnbuckle cover who was boss until Nexus and Caelum came up behind him and tried to toss him over. DSC figured that the turnbuckle had experienced enough pain so he turned and focused on Caelum instead. Nexus, at this point decided that De Sade would be a better target and the two of them started going at it.

Star Warrior and Mimic were battling it out in the middle when Sam joined the fray. Sam and Warrior exchanged a few blows and Sam got Warrior in the corner. Mimic decided to help Sam eliminate Warrior. The two almost had Warrior over the ropes when Omega came from behind and hit Mimic. Mimic was stunned enough to allow SW to get fully back into the ring. Sam noticed his opportunity and turned his focus on Mimic, tossing him over the ropes, plummeting Mimic down to the second zone. Omega turned to high-five Sam, but Sam instead kicked Omega in the mid-section and picked him up and tossed him over the top as well. Omega landed badly in zone 2 and was not able to recover in time to defend himself against Mimic, who acted quickly and tossed Omega out to the third zone.

With Mimic now resting in the second zone and Omega gathering himself in the third zone, all the attention was back on the first zone.

Morpheus and Caelum battled all over the ring. At one point, they bumped into DSC, who turned and grabbed the nearby Nexus to retaliate. Morpheus and Caelum quickly forgot about each other and got as far from DSC as they could. Caelum noticed that Grogan and De Sade were attempting to get each other over the ropes, so he ran over and threw himself at the easiest target of the two and got De Sade to go over the rope. DSC saw the man going over the side and leaned over to watch, creating the perfect moment for Star Warrior to lift his feet and get him to fall over as well. Star Warrior was recovering by the ropes from the heavy lifting he just did and Morpheus ran for an attempted easy elimination. The younger Star Warrior saw Morpheus coming and quickly dropped to the mat and pulled the rope down so Morpheus’ own momentum would carry him over.

That leaves Star Warrior, Torin Caelum, Lord Nexus, Sam, and Grogan in zone 1; Morpheus, DSC, Mimic and De Sade in zone 2; and Omega still alone (and resting) in zone 3.

In zone 2, it appeared as if a truce had emerged between Morpheus, Mimic and De Sade as they all went after DSC. DSC seemed to be un-phased by the onslaught, however. If he had any idea what-so-ever about what he was doing, all 3 wrestlers would have been out of the zone in no time flat. Unfortunately for Beast-Rider, though, DSC simply appears unable to grasp the concept of competition. DSC had the other three completely beaten, but never once tried to throw any of them over the ropes.

Back in zone 1, Star Warrior and Sam battled while Nexus and Caelum ganged-up on Grogan. Grogan was caught in the corner with both Nexus and Caelum trading blows on him when they tried to lift him over the edge. Grogan was almost over when SW whipped Sam into the same corner Avalanch Splashed all four wrestlers at once. This caused Grogan to fall back into the ring as all five wrestlers recovered.

In zone 2, the truce seemed to have evaporated as they all realized that DSC was not going anywhere soon. Morpheus and De Sade were working on Mimic when DSC grabbed Morpheus from behind and started tossing him around the ring. De Sade was surprised just long enough to allow Mimic to get him off balance and tossed him to zone 3, where Omega was waiting.

Omega tried for the quick elimination on De Sade, but the younger athlete was able to recover in time to deflect the attack.

Back in zone 1, Nexus and Warrior were putting on a clinic of high-flying maneuvers that the crowd was loving. Meanwhile, Grogan and Sam were renewing their old feud in a classic boxing exhibition. The older Torin Caelum was using the time to rest and recover from the action so far. After about a minute of rest, Caelum attacked Grogan. Grogan was able to quickly get the upper hand, however, and he and Sam immediately joined forces against Caelum. Caelum was quickly groggy from the double-team as Grogan whipped him into an awaiting Sam flipped the off-balance veteran out of zone 1 and down to zone 2.

As Caelum fell to zone two, he actually landed on DSC. This started the beast enough that he ran to the far corner and climbed to the second rope. Mimic saw this and ran towards him hoping for a quick elimination. The already frightened DSC saw Mimic running towards him and lost his balance and plummeted down to zone 3.

As DSC hit the mat in zone 3, Omega and De Sade both immediately went on the attack. DSC had recovered enough at this point that he was able to pick up De Sade and toss him over the ropes to make Marcel De Sade the first eliminated from BattleZone X!!! DSC watched as De Sade got up off the floor and made his way to the back with the assistance of the doctors. Omega decided that it was best to let the beast be, and the two did not engage each other.

In Zone 1, all four wrestlers are playing it smart and keeping most of the action in the middle of the ring. Each is waiting for the other to make a mistake, but for the most part, none are.

In zone 2, Morpheus and Caelum are fighting, again with Mimic avoiding the action on the side. Morpheus gets the upper hand on Caelum and gets him to his knees. Instead of trying to eliminate Torin, Morpheus decides to wear him down more. Caelum is down on the mat when Morpheus jumps from the second rope to drop an elbow on him. Caelum moves just in time and Morpheus is now rolling on the mat. Caelum whips himself off the ropes and tries for a low drop-kick, but out of nowhere, Mimic does a summersault-splash on Caelum then tosses the stunned Caelum out of the ring and down to zone 3.

As Caelum got to the mat in zone 3, DSC saw him, and apparently remember the scare that Caelum put on him earlier and this time responded with rage instead of fear. DSC picked up the still-dazed Caelum and tossed him into the third-row of the audience, eliminating Caelum from the competition. Still amped from the rage, DSC saw Omega in the ring and went after him as well. Omega had no chance. He was tossed to the outside almost as easily as Caelum was. DSC, seeing that no one else was in the ring with him, began to leave the ring but was stopped by Beast Master. Instead, DSC curled up in a ball in the corner and appeared to go to sleep.

In zone 1, Star Warrior and Nexus were battling in one corner with Grogan and Sam fighting in the opposite corner. Sam and Nexus whipped their opponents across the ring into the opposing corners and Sam began beating on SW while Nexus took on Grogan. SW took over the offensive on Sam and Sam called to Nexus for assistance. As Nexus tried to assist his friend, Grogan took advantage and tossed him down to zone 2. Warrior tried to take advantage and toss Sam, but Sam was able to hold on long enough for Grogan to make his way over and a three-way battle ensued.

In the middle zone, Mimic was avoiding any serious blows from the aging Morpheus and Nexus was recovering from his fall. Nexus joined the fight and went after Morpheus. Mimic stayed behind to let the younger Nexus spend his energy on the future Hall of Famer, Morpheus. Morpheus got the upper hand and was about to fireman’s-press Nexus out to zone 3 when Mimic took out his legs and tossed Morpheus instead.

When Morpheus got to zone 3, DSC did not even notice. Morpheus decided to try his luck and he was successful in tossing the giant out of the ring without throwing (or receiving) a single blow.

Meanwhile, Nexus still had not fully recovered from the beating he received at the hands of Morpheus, so Mimic was able to quickly toss him to zone 3 as well. When he got to zone 3, Morpheus immediately went on the attack, but Nexus was able to hold him off enough to gather his wits. The two proceeded to battle in all four corners of the ring.

Mimic rested in the corner in zone 2.

In the main ring (zone 1), Sam, Star Warrior and Grogan continued to trade blows, alliances switching at rapid pace. SW was battling Grogan and getting the upper-hand when Sam turned on Warrior and got him to his knees. Sam then turned back to Grogan and attempted to bodyslam Grogan out of the ring, but Warrior stunned Sam instead. Grogan was able to recover quickly enough to get SW into a suplex and toss him to zone 2.

Star Warrior got to zone 2 relatively unhurt, but he was quite upset. Mimic was smart enough NOT to go in for a quick kill. The two did not even engage each other for about 15 seconds.

Down in zone 3, however, Nexus and Morpheus were not so civil. They both got to the last zone tired, but still in rather decent shape. However, in zone 3, they were brutal!! Nexus gave Morpheus a knee to the forehead that caused the whole arena to shudder. Morpheus was squirting blood all over the ring. One fan in the 2nd row actually got sick!! The medical team almost pulled Morpheus out, but Omega stopped them. Despite the blood, Morpheus continued to fight with the heart of a lion.

In zone 1, we were left with the final two; Grogan and Sam. Sam was still recovering from the stunner that Warrior delivered to him, and never really had a chance against Grogan. They battled for about a minute or so before Grogan was able to deliver an Upper Crush, sending Sam down to zone 2.

MIGHTY GROGAN WON ZONE 1!!!

Grogan fell to his knees in awe. Although he has won BattleZone before, he has never won Zone 1.

When Sam got to zone 2, however, he was too beat-up from his time in the top zone that Mimic was able to make quick work of him and he quickly entered zone 3. Star Warrior rushed behind a distracted Mimic and quickly tossed him over the rope to capture zone 2.

STAR WARRIOR WON ZONE 2!!!

That left only Mimic, Morpheus, Nexus and Sam in zone 3. Morpheus, although still bleeding, appeared to be recovering slightly. Sam, having fallen from zone 1 to zone 3 in about 7 seconds, also appeared to be regaining his senses.

Nexus and Morpheus continued their battle while Mimic took on Sam. Mimic was running around Sam, causing Sam to miss with many of his attacks, but Mimic was not applying much of an offense himself. Nexus and Morpheus continued to bloody each other and neither was taking the advantage.

Nexus got Morpheus into the corner and lifted him so he sitting on the top rope. Morpheus was fighting all of Nexus’ attempts to get him over though, so Nexus climbed to the second rope himself so he would have leverage. Mimic noticed that Nexus was now standing above the top rope, so he immediately abandoned Sam and ran full-blast at Nexus, knocking him out of the ring. He then turned to Morpheus who was unable to stop the fresh Mimic from getting him off-balance and falling to the floor outside the ring as well.

Our final two fighters in zone 3 were Commander Sam and Mimic.

Although the fight lasted for about 3 or 4 more minutes, it was not very entertaining. Sam was too tired to ever get Mimic in a hold. He connected a couple of times and caused Mimic to wobble, but Mimic was just to un-scathed for Sam to have a chance.

Mimic was able to get Sam out of the ring when he whipped Sam into the ropes then drop-kicked him in the back to send him over.

MIMIC WON ZONE 3!!!

Grogan won Zone 1, Star Warrior won Zone 2 and Mimic won Zone 3.

Star Warrior and Mimic will face off later in the card for the chance to face off against Grogan for BattleZone X trophy.

Zones 1 and 2 were lifted away and only the main ring (zone 3) remained. Mimic was joined by Star Warrior, Mighty Grogan and finally, Omega.

Omega: Congratulations on advancing to the next phase of the BATTLEZONE!!

The three winners left the ring, all looking quite focused.

Omega: Code Enforcer was set to defend his Jr Belt tonight in a three-way battle against Vice and Krakan, but Enforcer was injured too badly last week to be able to compete. Well, the show must go on!! Tonight, Vice and Krakan will fight for the belt.

That's a pretty interesting event.. very unique. Crazy that Mimic won over all that other talent.

2085...

I am totally surprised as well, but he has continued to be a stud since his downgrade in '81. He is 43 - 29 since and even won the Tourney AND WOY in '81!!

Mimic winning the BZ was a HUGE surprise!!. Next to the Tourney, the BZ is the biggest single event of my year, and it is a career-making accomplishment to win it. For a jobber to take it down is a big shocker.
