POW Wrestling
POW Sol Celebration The Final Stop on the Soul of Sol Tour (Stop Fifteen) Triton Center
-- POW Undisputed winner Cypher came out to start the program, receiving a larger-than-expected pop. He came down to the announcing table, saying he would only speak with his longtime ally Janus the Overman. -- Cypher: People are wondering what my decision will be -- challenging Raze for the heavyweight wrestling title, or challenging Shylock for my old heavyweight MMA title? The fact is, my heart has and always will lie with MMA, even though I showed the galaxy that I am the best at both. -- Janus: So are you leaning towards the MMA shot? -- Cypher: I see pro and cons to both. MMA, like I said, I am the best. And I have unfinished business with Shylock. On the other hand, I don't have the energy or interest to muddle through the rankings in wrestling, trying to improve a bunch of suits until they deem me 'worthy' of a title shot. And the CPC/POW top title is something that's eluded me. So you know what? I'm going to take the shot at Raze, capture the wrestling title finally....and when I'm done with it, return my focus to MMA and dominate it for years to come. I can do it all. -- Janus: Impeccable logic, my friend. Good luck.
Jack Hood -vs- Scion Nexus -- Hood made his another in-ring appearance, and had a great match with Nexus. And Hood's POW victory finally arrived! Winner: Jack Hood by bite to forehead
Matinee Idol -vs- J.J. Smooth -- Idol came out and had more to say about his movie. Franco paraded around with his megaphone, demanding the crowd be quiet and listen. -- Idol: I need to capture the true spirit of one of the biggest jobbers in wrestling history, Death Knight, and this Smooth fellow keeps failing to get it right. We're going to try again. Smooth, get down here. I have something for you. -- Smooth reluctantly came down, shaking his head at the audacity of the whole situation but going along. -- Idol: I brought you a very authentic Death Knight mask. Now would you wear it for this match, and for heaven's sake, play the role better! You're supposed to suck! I mean, you DO suck, but not "Death Knight suck"! -- Smooth snatched the mask and shrugged, then put it on. The match was predictably one-sided, but Smooth did have a bit of an offensive streak that thoroughly infuriated Polter! But it didn't last. Winner: Matinee Idol by running splash
-- Idol: NO! That won't do. What was that little offensive display there? I told you you need to SUCK, like Death Knight. When the mighty Star Warrior....played, I may remind you all, by ME in this script....waged combat with Death Knight, that masked fop didn't mount any serious offense! Look, we're going to have to do this again, but I have a different angle to try. You see, I'm going to make this movie innovative. The real Star Warrior wrestled, but I'm going to make this movie about MMA, in the backdrop of GWF 2087....so next week, you and me will do an MMA rehears.... -- Smooth: You're nuts. Screw this. I went along to get some wrestling action, but I'm done. Find some other stooge for your stupid movie! -- Smooth threw down the mask and stormed out. -- Idol was livid, and screamed, " Get back here! Who will be my Death Knight???" -- Suddenly, out of the crowd came a strange figure, and he was sporting a Death Knight-like mask himself! He charged into the ring, faced Idol, then cold-cocked him with one punch that knocked him out cold! The crowd didn't know who it was, but started cheering. -- "Do you know who I am?" yelled the newcomer into Idol's fallen microphone. " My name is Dread Knight, and I'm the son of Death Knight. THE Death Knight! And I'm going to make this big-mouth, pathetic excuse for an actor pay DEARLY for mocking my father!" Then he stormed off!
Crucible -vs- Gila -- Crucible didn't need to pull any of his shenanigans. Gila was clearly rusty, and didn't mount much of a challenge. Winner: Crucible by THE SINGULARITY
Rubicon -vs- Pendekar -- This was a solid, albeit short match. Pendekar started off strong, but Rubicon rebounded and took control of this match, never looking back. Winner: Rubicon by NO RETURN
-- President Prodigy came out and announced that he was "fully supportive" of Commissioner Hood's suspensions of Darwin's Legacy and Puma. As a replacement for tonight's title match, The Punks will challenge Jester & Queen.
Thayne -vs- Absalom -- An outstanding match! Absalom pummeled Thayne and seemed headed for a route. He threw everything at Thayne, getting several near pinfalls. The crowd chanted for Thayne louder and louder, and he seemed to draw off of it. He fought back and managed to lock Absalom in his patented knee bar, forcing a tap-out. Winner: Thayne by NO QUARTER
Wrestling Cruiserweight Champion Dante -vs- Brainstorm (Non-Title) -- Dante got the biggest pop of the night, up there with Dread Knight's clobbering of Polter. He had his hands full with Brainstorm, nearly suffering a quick and humiliating loss. But the champ showed why he has been on top for so long, and scored a huge victory. Winner: Dnate by HEAVEN
Wrestling Heavyweight Champion Raze -vs- MMA Cruiserweight Champion Stigma (Non-Title) -- Cypher came back down and joined the announcing team, to watch the man he just challenged. -- Raze at first seemed a little distracted, constantly casting glances at Cypher. However, what followed was the match of the night. Stigma and Raze wrestled for nearly 30 minutes in an absolute gem of see-saw action. -- Stigma eventually fell prey to a sharpshooter and frantically tried to escape, but just couldn't.....after what seemed like an eternity, he finally tapped out! Winner: Raze by sharpshooter
Wrestling Tag-Team Champions Killer Queen & Mad Jester -vs- The Punks -- Queen and Jester captured the hearts of wrestling fans when they won the tournament that crowned the first POW tag champs....but their luck ran to an abrupt end tonight. Jester went at it a bit with Taurine at first, but then got beaten down. He made a tag to Queen, who didn't fare better. In the end, The Punks became champions again! Winners and NEW CHAMPS: The Punks by BATTERED AND BRUISED

Oh, well. Queen and Jester's run was fun while it lasted.
Idol sucks as a director. In a good way!

POW Update
Special Rumor Report -- Sources are stating that yet another source of unrest between President Prodigy and Commissioner Jack Hood has erupted, and this one involves owner Faustus Grael himself. -- Two unnamed informants from POW have reported that there may be a more distinct split between the wrestling and MMA products in the weeks to come. President Prodigy may be asked to focus more on the wrestling; Hood on the MMA. -- Pay-per-views most likely will be separated, like most cards are, into MMA-only and wrestling-only. While the first two POW ppvs -- which had ALL titles on the line -- were very successful, Grael is reportedly looking to capitalize on the distinct interests of different regions. For example, the Soul of Sol 15-card tour that was just completed saw more wrestling than MMA, to cater to the wrestling-crazed fans on Earth, Mars, etcetera. Conversely, the upcoming MMA Madness Tour, which will be 5 consecutive MMA-only cards mostly in the Pleiades area, will feed off the preferences of Pleiades fight fans. -- The POW is fully committed to offering its unique mix of wrestling and MMA, but may slowly lean towards more MMA than wrestling, perhaps a 60-40% mix. Reportedly, President Prodigy is dead set against this, citing the roots of the CPC-POW.
-- The POW roster will remain free to wrestle and/or combat in MMA. However, as is naturally happening, it is expected that many will favor one over the other. -- There is also talk that -- on a very select basis -- independent fighters may be brought in to round out undercards, or wrestle on cards in their local area. The POW is now likely, for example, to sign Dread Knight to a full contract, but he has been cleared to compete for a limited time. -- A big rumor circulating is that a couple wrestlers in the GWF's developmental federation -- known alternatively as the GWFZ or GWX -- have expressed interest in tackling MMA. The POW is adamant about not expanding the current roster, but will welcome one-off or occasional fighters, particularly in MMA. With growing rumors that the GWFZ/GWX may be closing up operations, there may be some available talent.
-- In short, fans can expect the same wrestling and MMA excellence from POW, but each will no doubt receive its own unique branding. The fact that POW ratings and buyrates have increased dramatically since the format change speaks volumes. For a federation that was in financial trouble a year ago, this has been tremendous news. -- Recent results from the Soul of Sol Tour ratings are showing that POW is making huge strides in narrowing its gap with the GWF. With the much-storied GWF in a ratings lull, and its developmental fed struggling, many feel the time may finally, after decades, be right for a challenger to rise.

POW Fighter Frenzy I MMA Madness Series (1 of 5) Pleiades Fighters' Guild Arena
-- Commissioner Hood came out and announced that there would be three matches tonight between heavyweights. The commish himself will be at ringside to closely watch each battle. Out of the three winners, Hood will determine which two put on the best display and those two will battle at Fighter Frenzy III to determine Shylock's next challenger for the MMA Heavyweight Championship.
Talon -vs- Zed Marlowe Referee: Ven Riksash -- This one was all Marlowe. He connected on Talon with some superb punches, then slammed him to the mat and worked his way to a rear choke that Talon could not escape. Zed Marlowe - SUB - rear choke lock
Mike Fortune -vs- Mad Jester Referee: Xerxes Mandor -- This was the first of the three heavyweight challenges....Fortune looked supremely confident, grinning beneath his sunglasses as he swaggered to the ring. Jester, as always, made a crazy spectacle coming down, this time acting as if he was being followed, constantly looking over his shoulder and making faux worried expressions. -- Fortune looked to put this one away quickly with strikes, but Jester somehow was able to hold his own, even getting some good shots in himself. At one point, he rocked Fortune with a thunderous punch, but the Canadian Hitman was able to recover. -- In the end, Fortune took Jester down, got into a guard position, and rained down punches until the referee stopped the fight. Mike Fortune - KO - punches to head and body
Excalibur -vs- Absalom Referee: Xerxes Mandor -- This turned out to be an outstanding fight. Absalom has had more MMA success in POW than Excalibur, but the two came out of this match looking equal. -- Excalibur spent more time on defense, but was able to fend off any serious damage from Absalom's strikes. When the fight got to the mat, Excalibur kept getting out of trouble and taking it back to striking. -- In a thrilling, sudden finish, Excalibur lunged with a haymaker, but Absalom ducked, gave his opponent a stiff jab to the jaw, then followed with a kick for good measure that sent the 'knight' crumpling to the mat. Absalom - KO - left jab, right low kick
Saboteur -vs- Jack of Diamonds Referee: Xerxes Mandor -- This should have been a lopsided one. Even though Saboteur came into this one amidst something of a slump, Jack has yet to get comfortable in MMA action. -- What happened contradicted all of that. Saboteur, uncharacteristically sloppy, went for fast and furious strikes at the bell, but completely botched an uppercut and received a straight punch to the jaw that dropped him. Jack leapt on top of him, mounted, and fired off punch after punch! Saboteur blocked, but more and more got through, until his defense faltered. -- Mandor jumped in and stopped the fight when Saboteur was simply taking punch after punch. Jack wins a HUGE one sure to impress the commissioner! Jack of Diamonds - KO - mounted punches
-- Commissioner Hood got into the ring and announced that Jack of Diamonds will advance to the #1 contention fight. He went on to say that he found Absalom's victory over Excalibur exceptional, whereas Fortune's over Mad Jester was sloppy and less impressive. So it'll be Absalom against Jack of Diamonds in two fight cards, winner getting Shylock!
MAIN EVENT Dread Knight -vs- Matinee Idol Referee: Ven Riksash -- Idol's mouth and antics have gotten him into a lot of matches of late....but now he had to face someone other than JJ Smooth, and someone no one has seen in action yet. The shocking arrival of Death Knight's son has been the talk of the fighting world. Idol looked very nervous, though he tried to mask it with laughs and mockery of the newcomer. -- Idol surprised a lot of people by looking VERY good tonight. These two put on an absolute war. Both men got in solid shots, as well as submissions that nearly resulted in tapouts. -- With the crowd solidly behind him, Dread Knight wildly tried to put away the actor-turned-wrestler. He seemed most comfortable in clinching situations though, and was unable to really do any lasting damage. -- Idol managed to turn a clinch to his advantage with an impressive hip throw and then wrenched Knight's arm in a superb lock. Knight writhed in pain and tried to get out, refusing to tap! Finally, the referee stopped the fight when it was obvious Knight was not going to escape and was risking serious injury. Matinee Idol - SUB - arm bar
-- Idol whooped it up and celebrated with Franco after the match, as medics tended to Dread Knight and his hyperextended arm. Suddenly, Knight shook off the pain and charged into Polter, sending him to the mat! -- He began punching him in the head over and over....but then stopped abruptly and turned to Franco, who was hollering through his megaphone for security. Dread Knight leapt to his feet and grabbed the megaphone, then started beating the "director" over the head with it! The crowd went wild. -- "This isn't over!" Dread Knight yelled, then stormed off with both Idol and Franco out cold in the ring.
Post-Card Note: Dynamo is promising to get the first interview with Dread Knight, to ask about his beef with Matinee Idol, his standing with POW, his past experience, and more.

That is a huge win for Jack. I'm stunned.
I like the idea of having wrestling more in one region and MMA more in another. Seems eminently logical.

This fed just gets more and more interesting. I really like the backstage politics you've got going on--it's a nice "Sports Entertainment" twist to the fed that doesn't get in the way of the action.
And Dread Knight-Idol is going to get ugly in a hurry.
It's interesting to see someone take guys that, try as I might, I just can't work up enough interest to use (in this case, Mad Jester and Absalom) and make me want to use them. COol stuff, Aquinas.

POW Fighter Frenzy II MMA Madness Series (2 of 5) Planet POW
-- Commissioner Hood fired up an already-raucous crowd simply by coming out. He announced that, like the last card, there would be three contention matches tonight -- this time in the cruiserweight division -- and he would decide which two of the three winners were most impressive and deserving to advance.
Silas -vs- Rubicon Referee: Gorak Vriss -- The menacing former prize of Dr. Barnabas made a squash of this one. He connected with a series of uppercuts from at the start, that put Silas down in sudden fashion. Rubicon - KO - uppercut combo
-- T.K. came out with a mic and began yelling. "Euritar! I'm back from my injuries....and that's very bad news for you. You think you're the chosen one around here, getting all the breaks and all the favors? Well, that's going to change. When I humiliate you over and over again, not even the powers that be will be able to prop you up. You'll suffer like the non-believer you are!"
Pendekar -vs- Brainstorm Referee: Yoritomo Muto -- Brainstorm gave the silent warrior some trouble early on, but Pendekar showed just how dangerous he is, coming up with answers for everything. He kept systematically turning all situations into grappling, and from there, smothered his foe with his battery of submission moves. Pendekar - SUB - kimura armlock
Thayne -vs- Quetzal Referee: Gorak Vriss -- Thayne dominated this one. Quetzal tried to use his speed to pepper shots in from afar, but Thayne got through to him, slammed him down, and worked over his opponent until he managed to lock in a strangle. Thayne - SUB - naked strangle hold
Scion Nexus -vs- T.K. Referee: Yoritomo Muto -- The cruiserweight contention picture wasn't exactly clear-cut, for T.K. dominated like the other two winners. He kept this one a strikefest, and befuddled Nexus with some quick hand movement. A searing jab put Nexus down and ended this one rather quickly. T.K. - KO - left jab
-- Commissioner Hood came out and announced how difficult a choice he's had, given that all three winners looked dominant. He said he did make decisions though, and that Pendekar and Thayne will be the two to face for the #1 contention, at Fighter Frenzy 4! Winner challenges Stigma at the next MMA pay-per-view. -- Before he could leave, T.K. and Talisman stormed out and straight to the ring. -- T.K. got in the commissioner's face, while Talisman snapped, "This is an outrage! T.K. had NO trouble with Scion Nexus! None! He KOed him with ease. And you dare overlook him?" -- T.K. added, "It's the same story over and over. The powers that be persecute us and favor their fancy big-names. Commissioner, you're punishing me simply because I've exposed your precious Euritar. Admit it!" -- Hood grinned a nasty grin. "I be havin' no favorites. I call it like I see it. Always have, always will. Ye get such a problem with Euritar, let's cut to the chase, eh? At Fighter Frenzy 4, yer gettin' yer chance. Yer takin' on Euritar." -- T.K. nodded emphatically, and he and his manager left, obviously satisfied.
MAIN EVENT Battle of the Heavyweight Champs (Non-Title) Shylock -vs- Raze Referee: Gorak Vriss -- The MMA heavyweight champ battles the wrestling heavyweight champ! -- Cypher joined old friend Janus at color commentary. During the match, he commented on how he envisioned himself beating both men. "In fact," the cocky POW Undisputed winner added, "I may decide after taking Raze's title to go straight after Shylock's and unify the heavyweight belts." -- Raze may be impressing in the wrestling ranks, but he was in Shylock's area of expertise here. Shylock dominated him in all aspects, starting with blistering punches and kicks, then driving Raze to the mat. Raze seemed poised for a defeat when the ref broke the two up and got them back to their feet, and from there, Shylock clinched, and began raining fists into Raze's ribs....until Raze collapsed and couldn't go on. Shylock - KO - punches to the ribs
-- Dynamo announced that he has gotten access to some of Dread Knight's time, and that he would be interviewing him before the next fight card.

I wonder if Dread Knight will be as eloquent as his father...
Another great card--you almost make me wish I was using Jack Hood as my Commissioner, just so I could type in that accent. As always, his politcking really brought the card to life.
