PRESS CONFERENCE: MURDOK’S CRUSADE


(All four of the factions were represented at this press conference. Aegis, Shepard & Lance At-Las represented the R.O.C. Nicodemus & Ventross represented the Ravagers. Strangely absent were the SWAT TEAM: Flatliner & Warfare. Paganax, wearing his gleaming ESSENCE stood before Rankor. Rounding out the factions were the thousands of Murdok’s Plague Army & the four remaining members of his Crusade)

(Murdok is escorted into his ruined throne room on the between two hulking zombies. At his side walks the Queen of the Damned: Trisis. Murdok leaves his Queen safely between his two zombie hulks & sits in his throne with a flourish. Aegis makes a move towards Trisis, but the quick hand of Shepard keeps him in place)

Murdok: “Thank you for attending me & my beautiful Queen”

(Aegis tenses & Lance places a hand upon his shoulder to calm him)

Murdok: “I have a special announcement before I announce the pairings for the next BATTLE.”

(Godsend smiles)

Murdok: “My beloved Queen Trisis has informed me that she will soon give me an heir.”

(Aegis tore free of his friends & raged across the expanse towards Murdok. Murdok looked amused & uninterested, but it was the amplified voice of Nicodemus that halted Aegis cold)

Nicodemus: “HALT! There is nothing to be gained by attacking Murdok outside the confines of the ring. Should you do so Aegis, the Ramparts of Centra will be expelled from the a.C.e. & the hopes of your people’s salvation will wither away beneath the heel of Bringer of Death.”

(Aegis, fury etched on every muscle in his face, stopped cold…three steps from Murdok, his plasma pistol already primed & leading the way)

Aegis: “All this could end if you would allow me to finish this act.”

(Nicodemus steps away from the gathering and approaches Aegis. His next words are but a whisper)

Nicodemus: “Should you finish this act your beloved Trisis will be lost. There is not yet a cure for this plague. Is that what you want?”

(Aegis deflated in defeat & dropped the pistol to his side as Nicodemus put a hand on his shoulder)

Nicodemus: “At least this War in the ring will give us time to seek a cure. Play your part in this Aegis. We need you.”

(Aegis looked towards his wife & nodded silently)

Murdok: “Now that we are through with the dramatics I will announce the pairings.”

Murdok: “I have decided that NOXIOUS will battle against SCORCH.”

(Many confused faces, Godsend’s included, greet this revelation)

Murdok: “NICODEMUS. You shall have your former follower RANKOR.”

(The Ravagers could only smile at this. Rankor grinned evilly)

Murdok: “VENTROSS you will face my Second, GODSEND.”

(Now Godsend was truly confused. These pairings made no sense to him at all)

Murdok: “Paganax, your DARKNESS FALLS will face my RESURRECTION.”

(Paganax nodded towards Murdok)

Murdok: “Strategic Control for the next card will be determined between NEMAN & GROVEL.”

(Paganax appeared appreciative & nodded again. The Ravagers were caught unprepared. Every member of the R.O.C. stood there in shock & Godsend said…)

Godsend: “Hold on, this is ridiculous. These are not the pairings. Murdok is playing games with all of us.”

Murdok: “Be silent worm. When I want your input I will ask. These pairings were given to me in a vision. Do not question me again.”

Murdok: “My apologies for my servant. He will not speak out of turn again.”

(Godsend turned on his heel & stormed out of the throne room)

Murdok: “Nicodemus, your SWAT TEAM will defend their ESSENCE against the combined forces of HEROES UNITED.”

(Aegis’ head snapped back to look at Murdok. His eyes narrowed dangerously)

Murdok: “PAGANAX, I hope you are ready to defend the ESSENCE you wear against SHEPARD. 2 OUT OF 3 FALLS.”

Paganax: “I will crush him!”

Shepard: “I don’t think so big guy.”

Nicodemus: “If I could speak for a moment Murdok?”

(Murdok nods his head in assent)

Nicodemus: “There will be one further addendum to our covenant. From this point forward, one match at each BATTLE must be between Seconds. The result of that match will give the winning faction choice of the location of the battle. Ventross of the Ravager Army won the honor of making this first choice.”

(As if on cue, Ventross stepped forward)

Ventross: “The next battle will occur aboard the RAVAGER MOTHERSHIP.”

Murdok: "So it shall be! Good luck to all! Trisis my Queen, let us retire & celebrate my coming heir"

(Aegis tensed again, but to his credit didn't acknowledge the barb beyond that & silently walked out of the throne room with his allies)

You are a brilliant writer! Your feds are the standard by which I try to achieve. You seriously need to start writing a fantasy or sci fi novel. With the combination of your writing style and imagination, you would have little trouble getting published.

(A few hours after the press conference when everyone has left, Murdok sits alone, in silence, on his ruined throne. Godsend stands opposite him)

Godsend: "Harvester, I know you do not want my guidance in these matters but your vision has removed from our forces all possibility of strategic control."

Murdok: "I trust my vision demon. Why is that not enough for you?"

Godsend: "Perhaps if we combined Noxious & Scorch's match to that of Neman & Grovel's into another Battle Royal, we might salvage some of what was lost."

Murdok (shouting): "The vision was clear demon. Strategic control of this War was not meant to be in our hands on the next card. Another is meant to gain control so that he will attain the ESSENCE. All the ESSENCE demon. What he will do with it will be the key that turns the lock of my ultimate victory. Do not question me again in this manner. Be gone from my sight."

(Godsend bowed slightly before Murdok & slowly turned away to leave the audience)

Murdok (wispering to himself): "Why is it not to be me who attains the ESSENCE? Why the insane Ancient? Father, I seek your guidance..."

(Again the arena seating was broken into four sections. Each faction was represented in one section with their own warriors so that one faction was on each side of the ring. The surrounding area beyond the crowd was purely Ravager technology. Heavily armed shock troops formed a defensive ring around the assembly, waiting not for the victorious, but for one of the other factions to step across the line. The stage for this battle of the Holy War is the RAVAGER MOTHERSHIP)

(The Ravager representatives erupted when the young one known as Neman appeared & made his way to the ring. The Tribesmen of Primus tried to match the Ravager ferocity with their cheers, but couldn’t compare in volume or intensity for poor Grovel)


BATTLE FOR STRATEGIC CONTROL:
NEMAN defeated GROVEL
- Neman, charged by the fans, ran circles around Grovel. He was much too fast for the slow witted Grovel & worked quickly to hit a HUGE deathjump (huge Ravager crowd pop) to set up back-to-back HUNGER STRIKES for the win.

(Ravager chants of: “NEMAN, NEMAN, NEMAN” showered the overwhelmed young Neman as he headed into the back)

RAVAGERS HAVE STRATEGIC CONTROL OF THE NEXT BATTLE


(The Tribesmen of Primus faction was eagerly awaiting the appearance of their tag-team as ritual chanting had begun in earnest. The meaning behind these guttural chants were lost on everyone present save the Tribesmen themselves)


DARKNESS FALLS defeated RESURRECTION
- Corporal Tek took control early & ruthlessly beat down both Krypt & Jakyll. Cremator entered & things turned around for Darkness Falls. Back & forth the fight went as both sides struggled to hold control, but it was KILLER instinct from Krypt that ended the fight for Cremator as Jakyll & Corporal Tek battled at ringside.

(Battered & bleeding Darkness Falls received wild cheers from their faction. The buzzing of flies are all that was heard from the Plague Army as Resurrection faces another defeat in silence)


(A pillar of flame erupted in the ring, scorching the mat. From within those flames stepped the demon Godsend. The Ravager Mothership erupted once again, this time for one of their favorite & most skilled fighters: Ventross)


VENTROSS defeated GODSEND
- Godsend repeatedly tried to take control of the match but each time Ventross caught him with a clawed hand around the throat & denied his attempts. Godsend’s eyes blazed with the fires of frustration as Ventross toyed with him throughout the short match. With his faction building behind him, Ventross ended his game with a reverse DDT for the pinfall.

(Godsend’s body is consumed with flames and is burned away to nothingness after his defeat. The Ravager faction chants: “VENTROSS, VENTROSS, VENTROSS” as they seemingly have left their stoic manners at the door this night)


(The ROC cheered the appearance of Scorch for his match. Those cheers quickly turned to boos as Noxious appeared)


NOXIOUS defeated SCORCH
- Repeatedly Scorch dominated Noxious with slams & punches. Noxious would try to fight back but Scorch would put him down again & again. Noxious didn’t give up & kept fighting, eventually taking some measure of control after busting Scorch open on the turnbuckle outside the ring. Noxious rolled back inside the ring & left Scorch dazed on the floor.

(A slender figure snuck from within the Crusade faction seating over the railing & down to ringside. It was Trisis, Queen of the Damned. She moved like a dart towards the downed body of Scorch)

The scent of blood was overwhelming for Trisis & she leapt upon Scorch & quickly bit into his flesh several times & tore away at him with her razor sharp claws. Noxious came out to swat away Trisis & returned Scorch to the ring for a sidewalk slam pinfall victory.

(After the match, Trisis again dove into the ring towards Scorch but this time Noxious caught her arm & held her up short. Looking back to Scorch, he moaned quietly in the middle of the ring, writhing around in pain. Black spider veins had already covered his neck & right arm & his wounds had already festered with black slime. Scorch had clearly been lost to the Plague)

(Lance At-Las & Aegis were the first of the ROC to hit the ring. Noxious & Trisis were already long gone. The medical staff quickly diagnosed the situation & injected several things into Scorch’s arm & neck but nothing seemed to have any effect. Shepard stepped in to take his partner’s hand in his own & draws a small cross on his forehead with the other)

Shepard: “May the Lord forgive you whatever sins you have committed.”

(The priest makes another small cross over Scorch’s forehead)

Shepard: “I shall avenge you my friend. A cure shall be found. I shall not rest.”

(With that Shepard stood up & left the ring. Lance & Aegis were left alone to watch the Plague overtake their former teammate. The whole process took a matter of minutes & a Ravager security detail silently took away the Plague-ridden body of Scorch to a secure holding facility)


(When the traitorous Rankor is announced on the Ravager’s extreme displeasure can be heard. Looking at the Tribesmen of Primus during Rankor’s entrance would demonstrate that had the Ravagers chosen instead to welcome the Traitorous Dog with silence, only silence would have followed him to the ring. Nicodemus however, was another matter. The Ravager faction, seemingly the entire Mothership, cheered for the Ancient as he made his way to the ring)


RANKOR defeated NICODEMUS
- In a very surprising display, Rankor annihilated Nicodemus once he set foot into the ring. Nicodemus didn’t even get an offensive move in before Rankor silenced the crowd with the sheer force of GUILTY OF TREASON for the dominant win.


(Rankor left the ring without comment, but he did spit towards the Ravager faction that hated him so much before leaving the ring)


(With only the ESSENCE battles yet to be fought, the Mothership welcomed their ESSENCE bearers into the ring with previously unrivaled cheers. Later speculation would surmise that the ESSENCE itself helped to amplify the approval of the holding faction beyond that of normal means)

(The ROC faction welcomed their heroes with as much as they could muster. However much it paled in comparison to the Ravager welcome of the ESSENCE bearers, nothing could compare with the loss the ROC had faced earlier)


TAG-TEAM ESSENCE MATCH:
SWAT TEAM ( c ) defeated HEROES UNITED
- Aegis & Lance never seemed to get into this match. With their minds elsewhere, it was again Flatliner who led the way throughout the match. First he dominated Lance At-Las before letting Warfare in on the fun. Aegis mounted a comeback on both opponents & looked poised to snatch away the ESSENCE in moments but a pin save by Flatliner led to a vicious Centra Spinebuster from Warfare followed by THE BIG PAYBACK for the win.

(The ESSENCE again amplified the Ravager faction’s approval of their ESSENCE bearers as all across the Mothership security panes closed over the plate crystal domes that kept the vacuum of space at bay. Aegis & Lance helped each other into the back, both needing the other’s support to make it)

(The Tribesmen faction has had reason to cheer tonight already but that didn’t compare as the ESSENCE again amplified their crazed approval of their Heathen Chief. Again guttural chants, this time ESSENCE amplified, filled the arena. This time they were more savage, more urgent. Their Heathen Chief heard them all & they seemed to empower him)

(Shepard appeared without fanfare, even the ROC faction couldn’t find the heart to cheer in what had already been a disastrous night for their side of the War. The Vagabond Priest looked determined & went right after the ESSENCE itself)


ESSENCE TITLE MATCH: 2 OUT OF 3 FALLS
PAGANAX ( c ) defeated SHEPARD – 2 FALLS TO NONE
FIRST FALL
- Shepard definitely fought with inspired fury as he took the fight right at Paganax. The Heathen Chief suffered the assault & nearly gave in several times but somehow found the strength from his Tribe to continue. Well past the 30 minute mark in this back & forth fight, Paganax began to turn the tide & finally secured the pinfall with a face lock slam.

SECOND FALL
- With his Tribe howling their approval the Heathen Chief took control of Shepard to start the second fall & continued to punish him. Through it all, Shepard seemed to be reciting some litany of prayer. Another 25 minutes into another back & forth fall Shepard had Paganax on the edge and went for the kill with EXORCISM but MISSED!! Paganax took control & hit PAGAN VOID for the huge win.


(Paganax again wears the ESSENCE around his neck like a necklace as he raises his hands and roars at his Tribesmen. The ESSENCE enhanced sound is felt more than heard throughout the Mothership)

(Scene cuts to the Ravager holding facility that once held newly infected Scorch in restraints. Blue blood is smeared across the hallway walls & both guards stationed at the door have been eviscerated & then decapitated. The door to the security tank has been ripped away from the wall itself. Scorch & his rescuers are long gone from the scene)

Scorch is going to make one badass zombie.

Would you believe me if I told you that it was Godsend in control of the Plague Army & not Murdok???
