Look at it this way... If the classics set is done next, then War Games would definitely be next in line. If the War Games set is chosen, then who knows how long we will have to wait for the classics stuff? We will be voting next year on Classics v. Sudden Death, then classics v. Revolution...
If we just get the Classics out of the way now, then everything else can go chronologically. Even the bash sets could be filled in when they were released.

But uhh wasnt Wargames actually released chronologically before classics. Isnt classics more a prelude set ?

That's how I view it. I think 2087 is the starting point. Anything that, timeframe-wise, comes before that is filler and background information. Plus, WarGames produced some of the absolute coolest, ground-breaking characters that ever graced COTG.....I want to see guys like Matador, Lance At-Las, Chaos and Alpha Force get the online, colorized treatment, not guys like Big Superstar, Montrol, and two younger Commander Sams

well, that's how Tom released them, 2087 was the first and the EC came a lot later. Sort of an after thought. BUT, if you're doing an online thing and ppl who are new, they might like it better to start at the EC (as they'll probably see it as the beginning and not 2087). Just my 2 cents.

Actually for someone new, I think 2087 is the best introduction, as the characters are easily laid out on sides and you don't have to know as much back story.

As someone new (well I did first get 2087 way back in the late 80's but never got real serious into about a year ago) What drew me to the 2087 as the starting point was its very basic and as things get moving new mechanics are added in, with managers in 2089 and the first tag finisher or a dw finisher in 2088 and so on. From what ive heard in EC is it has these more "advanced" mechanics like add 1's and such on the cards. Would seem a bit strange to start out with add 1's and other mechanics hit 2087 and bam your back to the stone ages again and then slowly move your way up through the years. That was the biggest discision for me getting back into the game and choosing my starting point between EC, 2087 and 2119. Just my thoughts anyway on using online as a vehicle to get "new" players into things. I know when I was showing a friend the game it was easier to use 2087 than 2119 (we all do take for granted that most of us are gamers so pick up on what is relatively simple concepts easily). He was getting confused and overwhelmed with the choice chart I can imagine what add 1's and variable finishers would have done to him right off the bat.

This poll looks like a tie to me. I say release both.

This poll looks like a tie to me. I say release both. Thats actually a bit of a good thought imo, Why does it need to be a complete pack ? EC is what 5 game editions ? Why not release first half of that and the 3 war games sets ? then release sudden death and the next half of EC ? Im sure that would appease everyone . Or even insted of a full game pack of 3-5 sets every 5-6 months or so why not a single new game pack every 1-2 months ? You could alternate between Wargames and EC they way till your caught up then just go into the main cotg stuff till your all caught up (also could see if that business model works or if you would rather just release game packs at that point) Just some ideas and thoughts that may make everyone happy in the short and long run.

Shaka's idea has merit, but if a choice MUST be made: Wargames, and here's why. Who would I rather see in color: Whiplash (with ENERGY WHIP) or Santon? Alpha Force (with GLOWING HAND) or Torin Caelum? Dreadnaught or Torpor? Quasar '93 or Lord Nexus '84? I love the Clasics sets (especially Classics 2079), and the EC set Mike did is flat-out awesome. But if I'm looking for something that's going to pop on the computer screen, and going to intrigue more new people as they peek at the Filsinger Games website and the COTG Onlne website, I have to give the nod to the War Games era, by far. EDIT: Come to think of it, Shaka has another great point. The Early Classics set was created according to the "New Beginning" model--more "quirky" mechanics, and a higher power level in general (notwithstanding "supercards" like Omega '79 or Torin Caelum '74). It might make more sense to hold off on those until people just coming into the system via online are comfortable with the new mechanics introduced slowly from Bishop Hell and Incredible Badger in 2088 to, say, the Genesis team in 2100 - 2102. (Speaking of Genesis...I can't wait to see how the Sim handles Buck Steele and his transformation mechanic. )

WAR GAMES!
EC is awesome and all, but Chaos is the greatest COTG character of all time, period.
