EDIT: Come to think of it, Shaka has another great point. The Early Classics set was created according to the "New Beginning" model--more "quirky" mechanics, and a higher power level in general (notwithstanding "supercards" like Omega '79 or Torin Caelum '74). It might make more sense to hold off on those until people just coming into the system via online are comfortable with the new mechanics introduced slowly from Bishop Hell and Incredible Badger in 2088 to, say, the Genesis team in 2100 - 2102. Honestly, I don't think the new mechanics introduced are complicated in the least; and I can't fathom they would make the game harder to play. You only have to be told what 'add 1' does once, and you'll know forever. I don't see a learning curve.

Heck, from just reading the old website, and reading people's fed results, I was able to tell basically exactly how the game worked. And that was before I had ever even purchased the game!

Playing devil's advocate on the ease of the rules: When you hit an add 1 move and the opponent rolls pin, do you add the token before the pin roll, after the pin roll, or not at all?
You can go grab people who have been playing COTG for decades and find them with differing opinions on how it should be played. If I remember right, you can find official set authors with differing opinions on it.
Now, is it an overly complicated mechanic? No, not at all. But it's more complicated than the core mechanic from the first set, and it probably would be easier on a person who's entirely new to the COTG universe to be weaned in slowly - core mechanic first, then tag and dq moves with invasion, then the roll finishers, then the add 1s. If you throw new people at EC and expect them to take all of those rules in at once, maybe it's a bit overwhelming for some people.

Ahhhh, the old Add 1 Pin rule dilemma. I completely disagree with Tom's ruling on this, as I can't see how the Eye Cleaver can have more long term damage in a match than the End of All Things.

Personally i add it to the pin attempt before rolling the pin. Also i add them with each pin attempt.
Say Star Warrior and Vengance wrestle. Each time Vengance apply's the eye cleaver. It gets added to Star Warriors pin attempt roll.

The Eye Cleaver has as much of a long term detriment to a wrestler's stamina as kicking out of a pin attempt does. So does kicking out of the Eye Cleaver. You're just doing it twice. See? The rules are complicated! War Games FTW!

I add 1 before the roll on level 3 defense, and IF they happen to roll PIN and kick out I add another. The move put them down so you could have a chance to pin the opponent So why wouldn't you add one after the move!
