Now that I have paid off my IPad and made alot of progress on paying off my new TV, I am thinking of getting a video game console as the next thing I buy with my Best Buy Rewards Zone card (on a side note, I like that card because it allows be to buy things I would otherwise have trouble paying for all at once on my salary, there is virtually no interest if you pay off a purchase within 1-2 years, and it helps my credit rating. So what do you guys think is the best video game console and why?

PS3. I mean, you basically buy the system and get a free BluRay player!

PS3.
I rarely play games but between the blu-ray, Netflix, and Hulu Plus, I get good use from my PS3z

Had a PS2 forever and tried PS3 and HATED IT. I've owned an XBox 360 for 1 year now and absolutely love it. I only play Madden and NCAA college football 12, so I can't comment on much else other than it's amazing for that. It does however seem fully capable of doing anything if I chose to use it for something other than just games (chances are I won't).

Well, having had all three for quite sometime...here is my opinion:
Wii:[/u] Mostly for family and casual gaming...use it for the kids and for party games such as Mario Kart or Party...hardly any online play or violent game. the engine is way weaker than the other two systems...plus WiiU is about to be released- so, I will say hold off on this.
XBox 360:[/u] I like this system but the system still has a problem with RROD but instead of a ring you will get two flashing square lights blinking...they still don't have it right yet! Plus, you will have to pay to play online. granted that it is something like $24.99 for three months or something (I am paid up for the next two years) I love some of the platform games such as Gears of War and Left 4 Dead...great system and I know how to fix the RROD problem now and have been making a lil' $ on the side fixing these things (school has paid off already) but there is rumours going around that the newest system will be released sooner than everyone thinks.
PS3: Didn't like this system originally but love the snot out of it now! It has a blue ray player and if you decide to get it then the higher memory is a must...does everything the XBox does but better and there isn't a fee to play online which is a plus...nay sayers say that their security isn't well either BUT on the 360- a person can take your gamertag without Microsoft even making sure its you...but anyways...the PS3 has great platform games like Kill Zone, God of War, Lil' Big Planet, Ratchet & Clank, Red Dead Redemption, and on and on...so, there games spread all across the board...I am only getting Madden for this system this year as I personally like the way it looks graphically than the 360.
So, that is my opinion...your choice in the matter since your the one to pony up the cash...hopefully this helps as I gave you my thoughts on each system rather than just saying 'buy this'...

That is a hornet's nest of a question.
Ultimately it comes down to you, what platform specific games you like, and how the controller feels in your hands.
The field is almost evenly split 50/50 on what is the best when it comes to gaming. What systems are your friends on? Would you play Multiplayer games with them? Is that even important to you?
Try to overlook the fan boys who just says something sucks to say it. Look into the actual games you like to play and see which system feels your personal preferences.
