Good Evening Chuck,
Good evening. It is always a welcomed pleasure to see/hear from you! =)
thanks for making these available for the community. It is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
I am probably the biggest WCW fan here, as Swarm and others will attest, so I had some comments for the set. Please do not view them as negative; they are intended to be viewed as constructive for the betterment of this and future sets in general.
I ppreciate all forms of comments.
My first thought upon viewing the cards is that some of them - Bagwell in particular, Savage and Sting are much too strong.
Bagwell... maybe... but Sting and Savage I felt that I nailed pretty good. I always saw Sting as the "WCW Franchise" guy during that timeframe and he was pretty much unbeatable. During that time no one could touch him. Does he have relatively high stats? Yes. Are they outrageously high? Perhaps. But I made him and compared him (Rahl-wise) to the other wrestlers he went against during this time.
Same with Savage. I looked at him (in the WCW world) like so: Sting>Savage>Hogan. Yes I said it. The way Savage was portrayed in WCW... I saw him as able to beat Hogan on any given day, but not without a tough fight. Hence why he is stated Rahl-wise 1 point higher than "Hollywood."
There is a chance that Bagwell's finisher is as strong as the Giant's - clearly for the timeframe, this is not possible. Bagwell should not have 3 L3 moves on L2. he just shouldn't.
I always looked at Bagwell as a mid-card guy. But like him or hate him I always saw him as an energetic wrestler who statred off strong and surprised opponents now and then, but couldn't finish the match on much the same level/pace. I always saw that he "Blew up" early, but then when he had the advantage he seemed to goof off and mock the opponent. Hence why I gave him 3 L3 moves on L2O. I feel that it was the right thing to do.
Similarly, I am taking this timeframe from 1995-1999, with the men that you featured. I think your Flair is too strong for this timeframe. I do not think adding to his finisher occurred as much then - he was losing too much and when he was winning, he was doing so with help.
I actually agree with you on this one. Initially I wanted Flair to be a lot lower Rahl-wise... perhaps in the 20's. But I changed him after a word or two from other guys who were giving me insight for the set. But yes... I generally agree with you on this point.
I would have loved to see an NWO or Outside interference chart accompany this set. Many/Most finishes in the big matches then were never clean. The NWO itself never won without some sort of help, if I am remembering correctly. If we are going for realism, this needs to be addressed. Same with the DQ's - I think their NWO dq's should be higher.
I was just planning on releasing the wrestlers, not the nWo, with this set. But yes. That is something that might add flavor to things. Perhaps you can help me come up with a "nWo Card" for my next set and it'll raise wrestler DQs... but insure their protection from the WCW roster. Something like that sound good?
I also think the set, for the timeframe, has glaring omissions - I know that Jericho and Malenko are in the cruiserweight set - but Piper, for instance, the Nasty Boys, Public Enemy, etc. I think their inclusion would have made the set stronger.
As far as Piper is concerned I didn't include him because from what I remember his time in WCW was a couple months (if that) long. I remember him getting jumped, speaking gibberish and then a world title match with Hogan... and then that was it...
Although I do have plans for Piper and Ultimate Warrior (both finished and statted) for another set.
I was planning on releasing the Nasty Boys and Public Enemy with my WCW/WWF tag set...
I love DDP's ribs gimmick, but how come you omitted the Diamond Cutter mechanic from the L3 Defense?
Huh? I have yet to see the official Filsinger DDP card...
All in all, I think this is a good effort, but if we are trying to recreate cards as realistic as possible for the timeframe, I think these tweaks would make the set much stronger.
Please let me know if you need any clarification.
