I just realized I did not start a thread here yet for the Seahawks as I intended.
I know the Seahawks are not supposed to be very good this year, but I still want a thread for them because they are my favorite team regardless of how many games they win (or don't win.)
The Seahwaks lost to the 49ers last week 33-17, but it was a little closer than the score indicated as the Seahawks had closed the 49ers lead to 19-17 with just a few minutes left in the game until the 49ers returned both a kickoff and a punt return for touchdowns within 59 seconds of each other.
The Seahawks are currently rebuilding and their offensive line shows alot of promise but it is obviously inexperienced (2 rookies, and 2 2nd year players- in terms of games played it was the most inexperienced starting offensive line by any NFL team in 16 years) as they gave up 5 sacks and now they play the Blitz-burgh Steelers this weekend.
some small amount of good news, Robert Gallery and Sidney Rice (who both missed the 49ers game due to minor injuries) returned to practice today.

Pete Carroll is intentionally burying the Seahawks so he can draft his golden recruit - USC QB Matt Barkley is next years draft. It's so obvious. He goes out and drafts 3 O-linemen in his 1st two drafts. Then he spends big bucks on WR Sidney Rice. So far so good. And the guy he chooses to run this show is.....Tavaris Jackson??!!??! Uh...yeah. What the hot surfer chick with one arm wasn't available?
Pete Caroll is an evil genius. He's intentionally sabotaging your team right now. You will not win more than 3 or 4 games this year. The Seahawks will draft QB Matt Barkley in the 1st round next year. Then you might see start to see some legit W's if he turns out to be a solid pro (and all signs point to him being a successful pro) Dude is money, able to already make all the NFL throws. Major knock on him is his height but I don't think it will be an issue.
This will all happen unless of course he gets some blockbuster deal to return to the college ranks once all the heat on USC dies down. That's plan B. Plan A is Matt Barkley.
Andrew Luck? He's going to the Colts. Lucky bastards.

Yesterday I posted in the Lions thread about how former Lions fan favorite OLB Aaron Curry has been benched in Seattle. Now, we are hearing stories of Pete Carroll feuding with the Hawks GM. No surprise here. Hiring Pete Carroll to be the HC had disaster written all over it from day 1. Will Shady P even make it though the year? I'm beginning to think old Pete's scam, I mean plan to draft Matt Barkely may be nipped in the bud sooner than later when he is handed his walking papers.
With that said, what makes this story fascinating is that the report says that if one of the two should go, it would be the GM, NOT Shady P. I guess PC isn't happy with some of the GM's decisions to being in certain guys. Reading between the lines, I see a major power play going on here. Is this Pete's way of gaining full control over the organization? Is it his way of securing Barkley? I don't know. It's all guess work right now but God damn, what a mess in Seattle. I say get rid of them both and start fresh.
Pete Carroll disputes claim of feud with his GM
On Friday, Pro Football Weekly released a report that claimed Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider aren’t getting along so well (not unlike perhaps a certain pair in Kansas City -- coincidentally enough, both squads are 0-2).
PFW publisher Hub Arkush said Caroll is very unhappy with many of the moves Schneider made this season (Tarvaris Jackson, Sidney Rice and Robert Gallery). But if the two were to duke it out for their jobs, Arkush said Carroll would be the victor.
But after hearing that report, Carroll was upset. After Friday’s practice, though he and Schneider goofily pretended like they were going to fight in front of the media, Carroll said this (via the Everett Heralh).
"That's extraordinarily irresponsible," he said. "It's inaccurate, it's lazy, and I wouldn't believe a word they said. That's so far from true. John and I are as close as you can get. I've never been closer with anybody I've ever worked with and every decision we make, we make together. They don't even understand, so whatever that was -- I don't know who those guys were or where they came from, but they were just dead wrong."
"It's just weak that somebody would say stuff like that. They know nothing, they never talked to us, they've never seen us. They know nothing about what we're all about. "
And if you need more ice water thrown on the PFW report, consider what writer John Boyle (aka as the CBSSports.com Seahawks Rapid Reporter) penned in his article: “Even before Carroll addressed the report, it did seem a bit odd to those of us who are around those two on an almost daily basis.”

Rob,
I know my Seahawks are struggling, but it really sounds to me like the "story" by Pro Football Weekly is a bunch of bs.
after Carroll challenged their accuracy, Pro Football Weekly removed that video report
and, according to the Seattle Times, to make fun of Pro Football Weekly, Carroll and the general manager walked off the field arm in arm after practice yesterday

Could be. That would however mean Pete Carroll is happy with Tavarius Jackson,Sidney Rice and Robert Gallery. Kind of a rock and a hard place to be as a fan. Sometimes when a team is so bad you just want the regime to be over with so you can start fresh and not have to suffer. As Lions fans we've all been there and done that. So I'm not sure what's worse news. That they aren't getting along or that they are. That's................a tough one fans.

Well, with 14 games left in the season, I think it is probably better that they are getting along so a likely miserable season is not even more miserable.
But I am also not convinced either Carroll (who I never liked when he was at USC, but since he is now the Seahawks coach I want him to have success as long as he coaches my team) or the GM is the long term answer.
Regarding the moves for Gallery, Rice, and Jackson, as a Seahawks fan I am OK with the moves for Gallery (although he is out injured until about Week 9) and Rice (set to make his Seahawks debut today despite a shoulder injury,) but I never liked the move for Jackson.
The GM obviously misvalued Hasselbeck, who trails only Tom Brady and Philip Rivers for passing yardage in the AFC and who must really enjoy having Kenny Britt as a teammate, by not signing him when he had a chance to do so if he agreed to Hasselbeck's request for 2 years instead of just 1 more year of guaranteed money. The Seahawks definitely should have resigned Hasselbeck to start this year and to play and mentor whatever QB they select in next year's draft (provided the Bengals don't sober up and realize it is not best for their interests to let Carson Palmer- who apparently will not play for them ever again- just stay out when they could get a 2nd round pick for him from Seattle) just like the Titans are currently using Hasselbeck to start for them while mentoring Jake Locker.
Of the 3 big free agent signings (Gallery, Rice, and Jackson,) Jackson is the only one really healthy- but that could quickly change the way the young offensive line is playing.

I have to agree with Rob. Maybe they are intentionally tanking this season to get Barkley. I don't think they undervalued Hassleback. They just didn't want to win as many. As a fan, it sucks to think that your team is intentionally tanking. But as long as it leads somewhere down the line, kind of sucks less.

I def hope for the best for Seattle. It's fun having a vested interest in my pals teams. Seattle, Rams, etc...I follow them both and always hope for the best for them. And as a Lions fan I never want to see any fans of any team ever have to go through what we went through. I totally agree with Vegas that neither PC or this new GM is the long term answer. If it means the Seahawks get turned around more quickly due to a busted season this year, that's probably the best for the team. I also agree Hasselbeck was not only cast off too soon, he was the face of the franchise. Anytime you lose your franchise guy things are going to get rocky.
On the flip, maybe PC lands Barkley and it all works itself out. I doubt it...I just don't see Pete Carroll as anything but a dirty snake oil salesman, but maybe. Ya never know. Maybe the rumors are true and next year Pete gets FULL control (coach and GM duties). That would be wild. He seems like the kind of guy who would want and maybe do better with all that power.

As a fan, it sucks to think that your team is intentionally tanking. But as long as it leads somewhere down the line, kind of sucks less. Granted based on their play it may seem like the Seahawks are tanking, but they are not. Both before the lockout started in March and right after it ended, they actually tried to bring back Hasselbeck and offered him a one year deal guaranteed but refused to offer a 2nd guaranteed year which the Titans later offered him. That is why I say they misvalued him. I admit I don't understand what they are doing with Aaron Curry, but that does not necessarily make them tankers. It might just make them stupid instead. Instead of losing these games deliberately, the Seahawks are simply losing because they are rebuilding in a season that had no offseason camps (which are especially needed for teams going young or teams with a new coaching system and not needed as much for veteran teams who know their system) and as a rebuilding team because their schedule has them playing other division winners from last season too even though they were only 7-9. For example, after today they host Atlanta and then go to the Giants. That is what they get for making the playoffs, but it was worth it and hopefully the Seahawks get better and develop their players as the season progresses.

Rebuilding is one thing. Doing it with Tarvaris Jackson is something else.
