Tampa Bay Rays crushed Texas 9-0 coming off the play-in game that some say the New York Yankees gave the Rays, but either way the Rays can be a tough team to play... 1-1 tie is Baseball... I enjoyed the first two innings of the Yankees & Tigers game, but that rain screwed this game over and now we'll see who'll take the advantage...

I don't see how anyone can say that the Yankees gave it to the Rays. Up 7-0 isn't consistent with giving anything away.
But they may have awoke a sleeping giant for sure. 9-0 victory over the Rangers is pretty dominant.

Oh I agree the Rays didn't choke like Boston or Atlanta did and those who think New York gave them an easy win by resting their guys is wrong. Tampa Bay played hard against the Yankees whether it was the A team or B team and in the end the Rays have a great start to the ALDS...

Now...all that being said; we all know that even though the yankees didn't throw the game, they were damn happy the Red Sawx didn't make it.

as a baseball traditionalist i just find so much of it nonsense. The Red Sox 'collapse' is being called the worst in history. Uhhh, weren't they a SECOND PLACE team? How do you collapse from second? Before the wild card no one would have even noticed this. Oh a team that was in second at the beginning of september ended up in third. Bid deal. You don't have this in other sports, because baseball has been conditioned to end with the regular season. You still see teams having champagne baths when they win a division. Hilarious! you've got three rounds to go now. you don't see the Lakers having champagne when they come in first in the western conference. or the Patriots celebrating making the playoffs.

Interesting games yesterday, Texas gets a must home win while Phillie poured it on to crush the Cards. That rain cancelled game I think really helped the Yankees to win with 9 runs on the night and it's good to see the Brew Crew win their home opener...

Huge Game 5 for Detroit & New York, I'd say both sides need to send out their best pitchers during some point of that game. No time resting anyone when this game is it, either Win now or Lose out in advancing into the Next round...

Huge Game 5 for Detroit & New York, I'd say both sides need to send out their best pitchers during some point of that game. No time resting anyone when this game is it, either Win now or Lose out in advancing into the Next round... This has been a HUGE debate the last couple of days here in the D as you can imagine, and here's why - this is NOT a shot at anyone here. I believe the FG fan base has a very strong sports following. This is directed at the majority opinion in general - and more so at the crowd who actually think CC and or Verlander could physically start even if they wanted to. There are 2 reasons imo this debate is happening - 1) People who don't normally follow baseball are chipping in, and Verlander is the only guy they know anything about stat wise. It's very easy for casual fan to say "Put your best player in..." in any sport during a must-win situation. Aka Bandwagon fans. 2) This isn't XBOX. This is real life, with real people, with real muscles, with real muscle soreness, stiffness and pain. These guys are pro athletes working their bodies as hard as they can, throwing their arms out with 100mph heat. Go do 100 sets of 10 reps each with 30lb. dumbells for biceps tomorrow then go it again on Saturday with the same intensity. Good luck. In short, just because a guy might be available to pitch, doesn't mean he is the best option, even when that guy is your best player. The body needs time to heal. If you don't allow it to, you risk the possibility of having a bad performance, and serious injury. Win or lose I do not expect to see either CC or Verlander tonight.

I have to say that each individual sport has it's own physical demands on it's players when it comes to the post season and Baseball is a different breed when it comes to pitchers unlike Football when you need that #1 QB. I agree that resting a CC or Verlander is important and that's why they have a bullpen who can step up to the plate, but the manager of the team must make not only the right call for his players, but for the owner who is looking for his team to win with the best team on the field to secure another round in the post season...
It'll be interesting to see how these next 3 best of five games pan out and the drama will be intense I'm sure...

The Yanks are desperate. I think you will see CC tonight at some point. But we wont see Verlander, that is for sure.
I hope the Tigers win. Not cause I want them to but I hate the Yankees that much!
