WRESTLING AT THE FORUM (#1238)
October 10, 2008 Felt Forum New York, NY
THE FIRST MATCH. Dante Giordano (bootleg of mine) (0) d. Jack Hood (5) with a Piledriver in 17:30 (**1/2). Nice win for the “Cetus Bull”, defeating one of the most sinister brawlers to ever set foot in a GWF ring. Look for Giordano to see more opportunities here in New York in the near future.
THE SECOND MATCH. The West Texas Outlaws (0) d. The Greek Gods (3) with an Ankle Lock Grapevine in 12:54 (**). The Outlaws, by virtue of this victory, have won a tag-title shot at the Fabulous Kangaroos. The Outlaws, wild though they may be, have become fan favorites during their run in New York, and should have the fans on their side in their big title shot match on the next edition of WATF.
THE THIRD MATCH. Valour (1) d. Mr. Bloat (2) with the Warrior’s Rage in 9:20 (**). Nice to see Valour back in action, and tonight he took down the evil and grotesque Mr. Bloat quite handily. Valour never truly settled things with Endgame, former friend and ally, before he left the territory. Look for those two to “rekindle” their friendship soon.
THE FOURTH MATCH. Arik Cannon (0) d. Larry Sweeney (1) by Count-Out in 5:37 (*). Cannon is one intense wrestler. While Sweeney, rascal though he may be, will engage the crowd with smiles and catchy phrases, Cannon is all business in that ring. Nice win for the “Anarchist”.
THE FIFTH MATCH. Diamond Dallas Page (2) d. Austin Idol (0) by DQ in 12:57 (**). Finally, somebody gives Page some fight. Idol was a WWA mainstay, and he looked sharp tonight in his New York debut. Along with the inevitable preening and prancing around, Idol is a solid ring veteran, and he wasn’t about to be taken in by DDP’s recent hot streak. Look for a rematch between these two soon.
THE SIXTH MATCH. Buddy Rose & Ray Stevens (0) d. The Mongols (3) with a Bombs Away knee drop in 10:36 (**). Rose and Stevens were an effective pairing in the old WWA, and they made a nice debut tonight by taking down fan favorites The Mongols. The “Blond Bombers” are certainly charismatic, albeit in a roguish kind of way. We’ll see how they fare in New York, a city made for their outlandish personalities, certainly Rose’s.
THE SEVENTH MATCH. George Hackenschmidt (3) d. Buddy Rogers (2) by DQ in 14:35 (***). Buddy Rogers, an old NWA mainstay and one of the first NWA World champions (i.e., the legends fed I ran before the WWA, and which was purchased by the GWF in my fed history), put a licking on the Russian Lion tonight. Once again, that old question of “what makes great wrestling” came to mind in this conflict. Is it the great mat man Hackenschmidt, or is it the showman Rogers? This age-old dynamic certainly made for a heated match tonight, in Rogers debut in New York no less.
THE EIGHTH MATCH. Ken Patera (1) d. Strangler Lewis (1) by DQ in 18:19 (**3/4). The “World’s Strongest Man” had a real fight on his hands with the great Lewis, and tempers flared to mar the end of this match, with the dq resulting after fisticuffs between the two combatants outside of the ring. Hopefully for Patera, this match didn’t derail his hopes for a Heritage Title shot!
THE NINTH MATCH. Iron Mane (1) d. The Invincible Krakan (0) by DQ (what’s in the water tonight….so many DQ’s!) in 8:44 (*3/4). Looks like we’ve got a real feud on our hands between the Andromedans and the Hitmen, as Fortune and Battering Ram had a heated affair too! Krakan’s back in town too, his last run resulted in an Intercontinental Title, and we’re sure the ego-maniacal Krakan has his sight set on that again.
THE MAIN EVENT: ONE FALL, 60-MINTUE TIME LIMIT, FOR THE INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP. Tauran (0) (4th defense) had little problem with Lance At-Las (1) as he put him quickly with the Leg-Hook Powerbomb in 3:00 (dud). Tauran has had an impressive title run so far, and might even be in line for a World Title shot if this continues. The two men shook hands after the contest, with the ever-honorable At-Las accepting his defeat in true sportsmanlike fashion.
That’ll do it for this action-packed edition of WATF GWF fans! Some new faces debuted or returned this evening, which is always nice to see. And, these new/returning faces certainly have heated things up here in the GWF!
Be sure to catch the next star-studded edition of WATF! Scheduled to appear so far:
-Battering Ram and Mike Fortune in a rematch!
-Another rematch pitting Bounty Hunter vs. The Incredible Badger…lots of heat here!
-Chris Hero takes on the so far luckless Johnny Powers.
-Buddy Rogers is pitted against Hackenschmidt friend and ally Dan Severn!
-Wolf and Kill Prey in a big feud showdown!
-And, the Main Event will see the Fabulous Kangaroos defend their World Tag-Team Titles against The West Texas Outlaws!
The GWF.
Don’tcha Dare Miss It!

Great stuff, Stu! Cool to see that Tauran is still holding on strong to the I-C belt. I had thought about teaming up Rose and Stevens as a Bombers team as well, and after seeing that they beat The Mongols, I just may have to! Keep those great results coming!

Thanks for reading along Cory, really appreciate it! Rose & Stevens are a lot of fun, and kind of a natural team. Think you would enjoy having them together on a nice heel run.

THE GWF TODAY
(An infrequently published insider look at the world of the GWF)
News and Notes from the wild and wacky world of the GWF:
• Ticket sales are brisk and nearing sell-out status for Paragon’s first defense of the World Heavyweight Title, scheduled for the night of October 25th at Madison Square Garden. New York’s favorite adopted son, Bruno Sammartino, will be taking on the champ, and there is a huge buzz about the match. If Bruno can become World Champ, the roof may blow off the top of the venerable old MSG!
• Speaking of great champions, Rikidozan is coming to New York soon, presumably to settle the argument of who is truly the 2008 Wrestler of the Year…Giant Baba or Rikidozan! Look for some fireworks to explode soon, as both men can legitimately lay claim to this title!
• Commissioner Iron Hand is considering a stipulation match to settle hostilities between the Andromedans and Kill Prey and Bounty Hunter. Tensions are at an all-time high right now between the groups, and the Commissioner, while on many levels appreciating the heat that is generating great matches and great publicity, has acknowledged that something needs to be done to end this once and for all. Already, Wolf, The Incredible Badger, and Kill Prey have suffered major injuries as a result of this feud.
• Privately, our sources tell us that the Commissioner is concerned about a lengthy title reign by The Sheik, current title holder of the Heritage Heavyweight Championship and king of the Heritage Division. Commissioner Iron Hand worries that The Sheik may not be the best representation of what wrestling is all about, and it has been noted that he will be encouraging all comers to take on The Sheik for his title on a fairly regular basis. The Commissioner has witnessed what has happened with The Sheik’s “unholy reign of terror” in the NWF, and just has concerns over the same thing happening in the GWF, due to The Sheik being one wild and crazy guy!
• Omega and the GWF Board of Directors have given our beloved Commissioner high marks so far for his merging of the two wrestling federations. Omega especially has been lavish in his praise of Iron Hand’s vision of a 2-Division wrestling federation, constructed much in the same fashion as the NFL. It’s certainly looking like our esteemed Commissioner’s vision was the correct one for our federation. The Commissioner has said that the format is not carved in stone, and he will still consider going back to having each division have its own wrestling cards. For now, however, Commissioner Iron Hand seems to be quite pleased with his work.

Another great card filled with action!! You might want to consider rolling those DQ results twice & if they fail them twice in a row, then they are DQ'd. I look at it like the ref is giving them a break before DQ'ing them. I know it is not "by the book" but it is a very good rule in practice & will eliminate the high number of DQ's you have going on. I had much the same in the early days of my fed where I actually suggested that the refs were taken out back & put to death for the horrible officiating of the night's matches. I REALLY dislike DQ finishes. Every once in a while a heel Champ should use the DQ finish to hold on to the belt, but I really dislike it when a face is DQ'd for something that he had little control over because a chart said he did this when his opponent left the ring. Keep up the good work my friend. I'm glad to see you are settling in to the combined fed & are starting to stretch your storylines to see where they go. I look forward to more!!!

This is great stuff!!! Really enjoy the mixing of feds. Yours and Eliath's IWF are two of my must reads even though I do not post a lot.
This is why I have finally started my mixed fed as of yesterday.
I will keep coming back for more!!!
BTW: Looking forward to how the Sheik does in your fed. Will he be the beast that he is in the NWF?

Thanks for the comments fellas, and yes, Markoda, I noticed you had begun...bravo! I will be reading along, rest assured! That's a good suggestion on the DQ's Eliath, I've pondered doing that myself. There have been one or two cards where the DQ's have just been outrageous. Now, every now and then, for storyline purposes, a DQ will work. 5 DQ's on a card, however, is a bit much. Yes, I am starting to settle in now. I have enjoyed the mixing of the two worlds, and now that I'm firmly in it, am really excited at the possibilities for matches down the road. I mean, Thantos vs. Buddy Rogers would sell out any arena anywhere in the world! Thanks again guys, really appreciate you reading along.

WRESTLING AT THE FORUM (#1239)
October 17, 2008 Felt Forum New York, NY
THE FIRST MATCH. Mike Fortune (2) d. Battering Ram (1) by DQ in 14:15 (**1/4). Another DQ mars this rematch, although tensions certainly were raised a bit. There’s a good feud developing between the Hitmen and Andromedans, and the Hitmen may have bitten off more than they can chew by picking this fight.
THE SECOND MATCH. Mighty Grogan (1) d. The Main Event (0) by DQ in 5:44 (*). Oh, that pesky Main Event is at it again, this time antagonizing one of the GWF’s great mat men. Fists flew early in this match, as a result of the arrogance of the Main Event, leading to the quick DQ call.
THE THIRD MATCH. Arik Cannon (0) d. Adam Pearce (1) by the Glimmering Warlock in 6:50 (*3/4). Look at The Anarchist go fans! This little whirling dervish is showing he is a force to be reckoned with, this time by knocking out the much larger Pearce. Keep this up Mr. Cannon, and you may just find yourself moving up in the ranks! Cannon has made no secret of his desire to best Mike Quackenbush in the ring, as tensions between the two men go back a few months.
THE FOURTH MATCH. Those loveable madmen from Croatia, The Mongols (3), d. The Heartbreak Express (3) with an Elbow Drop in 16:25 in a good bout (***). The Mongols have truly captured the GWF fans’ imagination. Normally, a team this fearsome would be loathed by the masses, but their take-no-prisoners style is just too darn cool not to like!
THE FIFTH MATCH. Anivar (1) d. Sly Drury (0) by DQ in 6:18 (*1/2) (okay…think I’ll be instituting a house rule to help cut down on DQ’s shortly!). This one never really got off the ground, just deteriorated into a slobberknocker early once Anivar lost his composure. Granted, Drury will do that to a guy!
THE SIXTH MATCH. The Bounty Hunter (3) d. The Incredible Badger (1) with Ambush in 10:12 (**1/4). A shame for Badger, as he was winning this contest, that he was just crushed by the Hunter with his dreaded Ambush. Referees had to revive Badger, and it took them a few minutes to do so! The war continues between Bounty Hunter and Kill Prey, and the Andromedans.
THE SEVENTH MATCH. Chris Hero (2) d. Johnny Powers (2) with a Hangman’s Clutch in 10:57 (**1/2). Oh, Mr. Powers, what has happened to you??? It may be time for you to head off to the NWF and hope some home cooking will revive your fortunes! Nice win for Hero, who continues to impress overall.
THE EIGHTH MATCH. Buddy Rogers (4) had all he could handle with Dan Severn (3), but finally put him away with an Atomic Drop in 20:12 (***1/4). POST-MATCH INTERVIEW RECAP: Rogers said later that he felt this win might send a message to Hackenschmidt (good buddies with Severn) that Rogers can indeed “wrestle” with the best of them. The arrogant Rogers challenged Hackenschmidt to meet him any place, any time. Suddenly, Hackenschmidt came out to meet Rogers, and said why not now?? Rogers stated that well, he meant in the ring, and since he was tired from his match with Severn, that really put him at a disadvantage! The Nature Boy basically talked his way out of an impromptu match with Hackenschmidt, but boy, did Hack call his bluff and make him look foolish!
THE NINTH MATCH. In a big-time showdown, Wolf (1) emerged victorious over Kill Prey (1) with a Running Spear in 9:55 (**). After the match, Wolf just went berserk with rage, and took a steel chair to Kill Prey’s ribs, in retaliation for all the pain Kill Prey had caused him. Kill Prey is now injured for 6 cards, and the heat on this feud has just been dialed up a notch. To paraphrase the immortal words of Spinal Tap, “…this knob has just been turned to 11!”.
THE MAIN EVENT: ONE FALL, 60-MINUTE TIME LIMIT, FOR THE GWF WORLD TAG-TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP. The Fabulous Kangaroos (3) (1st defense) d. The West Texas Outlaws (3) by DQ in 14:50 to retain the titles (**3/4). “Dirty” Don Nathan of the WTO’s was disqualified for loading up his elbow pad, and walloping Heffernan with it! Oh, those crazy Outlaws…gotta love ‘em though! And, they will be back, as like it or not, their “methods” more times than hot produce winning results!
That’s it for another crazy fun-filled edition of WATF GWF fans! Wow, the heat is just palpable between the Andromedans and Bounty Hunter and Kill Prey! And, looks like tensions are mounting between The Hitmen and the Andromedans as well! And, how about Buddy Rogers and Hackenschmidt…will we see Hackenschmidt get revenge soon? We’ll have to wait and see how these play out.
Be sure to tune in to the next jam-packed edition of WATF! Scheduled to appear so far:
-U.S. Male takes on The Mountie…at stake is no less than national pride!
-The Armstrongs are pitted against Killer Queen and Vanity, with Bob Armstrong especially looking for revenge against Queen!
-Colossus takes on Mr. Bloat.
-A rematch between Iron Mane and The Invincible Krakan!
-And, in a big Main Event showdown, those loveable monsters The Mongols take on one of the GWF’s all-time greatest tag-teams…Brute and Massacre!
The GWF.
Don’tcha Dare Miss It!
