Galloway took a bloody beating. Fans were rooting for him to run the gauntlet but he fell short.
Lenny Leonard pointed out that wrestling personality SoCal Val was in attendance tonight. She was sitting in the front row enjoying the show.
Drew Gulak def. Timothy ThatcherWhat could have been a grappling clinic, was not so. Gulak struck quickly and Thatcher never recouped. A Bataclan suplex put Timothy down hard and a cradle by Gulak ended it. Drew showed his opponent respect and shook hands with him but Thatcher was visibly upset with his performance.
Caleb Konley w/Su Yung def. Rich SwannBad blood set the stage for this match after things heated up between the Premiere Athlete Brand and the Inner City Machine Guns at EVOLVE 48. Swann had the early edge, getting multiple pin attempts. Su Yung tried to influence the match but the referee ordered her away from the ring area under great protest. Konley survived three Chicken Fried Drivers, rebounded strong and earned the win with a tornado DDT.
Gabe's Book It Cam: EVOLVE Champion Chuck Taylor was in his dressing room preparing for his match later in the night. His opponent, Trent Barreta appeared with a sheepish expression on his face.
Chuck:
“Greg.”Trent:
“Dustin.”Chuck:
“So is it just going to be me and you out there?”Trent:
“If it’s up to me it will be.”Chuck:
“Okay then.”Trent:
“See you out there.”RELAXED RULESRicochet def. Anthony Nese w/Su YungAnother high-flying PAB-Inner City showdown saw Nese almost pin Ricochet in the opening moments with a Deadlift German Suplex. With the decided power advantage, Nese dominated the majority of the match. Things drastically swung in Ricochet’s favor when he landed an over the ringpost dive on Nese as he was consulting with Su at ringside. This weakened Tony enough for Ricochet to score on a 630 Senton for the spectacular win.
Johnny Gargano def. Zack Sabre Jr.In their first encounter, Gargano’s dubious tactics resulted in a submission win against ZSJ. Once again, Johnny came to the ring with the retired DGUSA Open The Freedom Gate Championship belt, proclaiming himself champion despite having lost the title well before it was decommissioned. Zack jokingly asked if he got the belt if he won. The comment upset Gargano who covetously clutched the defunct prize.
The competitors toyed with the idea of a knuckle lock but at the last moment, Johnny dropkicked Zack and immediately put him in the Gargano Escape. Sabre reached the ropes and started a comeback but Johnny cut it short and got a two count with a Hurts Donut. After a submission attempt with a Crosston Crab, Gargano deftly climbed to the top rope but was met with a European uppercut on his way down. Zack got in some effective offense but Johnny never lost a step and polished off Sabre with a Baby Ace Crusher.
EVOLVE CHAMPIONSHIPChuck Taylor(c) def. Trent BarretaAfter introductions were made for champion and challenger, Trent told Su Yung to go to the back. Su was indignant and reluctant to comply. Trent became uncharacteristically serious and Su pouted and left in a huff. At the bell, Taylor charged, blasting Trent with a running big boot. He followed with an overhead suplex that set up an Awful Waffle. Trent kicked out at the last possible instant. Chuck smirked, then gave him another Awful Waffle. This time Trent got his foot on the bottom rope. Chuck pushed Trent out to the floor and nailed him with a somersault suicide dive.
At this point, Anthony Nese and Caleb Konley came out, directed by Su Yung from the curtain. They helped Trent to his feet as Taylor waited in the ring. The groggy Barreta weakly pushed Nese away and tried shoving his teammates back up the aisle. This is when the champion’s teammates, the Bravdo Brothers, barged past Su and looked to confront the PAB. As the two groups squared off at ringside, the Inner City Machine Guns came out and jumped Nese and Konley. The Bravados stepped aside as the other men brawled to the back. The Bravados then closed in on Trent who was trying to prop himself up on the ring apron. Chucky T spastically hollered at them - “Get out of here!” Unsure, the two didn’t respond until Taylor grimaced and pointed toward the curtain.
Trent crawled back in the ring and the match resumed. Taylor picked up where he left off but, having recovered a little, Trent managed to reverse him and land a solid flying forearm smash that was enough for a two count. Barreta strung together some offense but Chuck halted him with a superkick. A springboard moonsault by the champion landed flush on his opponent and the three count brought things to a close. Trent humbly extended his hand to the victor and Chuck accepted it as the crowd chanted “Best friends! Best friends!”
