Card 15 – Brantford and District Civic Centre, Brantford, ON – July 8, 2018
What better way to cap off an near perfect summer weekend then some action from Maple Leaf Wrestling!
Lou Albano d. Ron Hutchison
Hutchison had the fans roaring with his strong start to this one picking up several near falls before the action went to the floor where Albano landed a low blow that turned the momentum of the contest. A SICILIAN SLAM ended it moments later.
Scott Taylor b. Frank Dalton
Dalton was all over Morgan Dollar before the bell and the official appeared shaken. However, Taylor came out flying and took the battle to his opponent from the opening bell. Supexes and superkicks rocked Dalton who struggled to get anything going at all. Dalton managed to reverse a whip into the corner and both men went for clothesline at the same time colliding together. Taylor was up first and executed THE WORM to claim the victory.
Curt Hennig b. Marty Jannetty
Dollar has strict instructions for both competitors before the bell. Hennig was able to counter a monkey flip attempt and landed a standing dropkick to the chin for the three count in just two moves (Snake Eyes!).
Diamond Dallas Page DQ Buddy Rogers
Rogers controlled the early action using a piledriver to get a near fall before the match went to the floor. Dr. Mike Lano became tangled up in the action and Page took advantage when the action returned to the ring. Rogers came back scoring another near fall after a piledriver but Page was later able to avoid a charge to the corner and roll up Rogers for a near fall of his own. DIAMOND CUTTER rocked the fans but only got a two count. Rogers slowly began to assume control of the contest before the action when to the floor where Rogers used a chair on Page’s leg which caused Morgan Dollar to make the immediate disqualification (snake eyes!)
King Kong Bundy & “Pretty Boy” Bobby Heenan b. The Taylors (Chaz Taylor & Tugboat Taylor)
This was by far the most entertaining showdown between these two teams who have been battling for several weeks. The fans were treated to two showdowns between Bundy and Tugboat Taylor which shook the ring with the slams. Bundy crushed Tugboat Taylor with an ATLANTIC CITY AVALANCHE but could only get a two count. Heenan was at his sneakiest best when he was in the ring and Chaz Taylor took flight not only against “Pretty Boy” but also against Bundy. The finish came after Tugboat Taylor crushed Heenan with an ANCHOR DROP but Bundy jumped into the action followed by Chaz Taylor. While Morgan Dollar was distracted with Taylor, Bundy dropped an elbow on Tugboat Taylor’s skull and placed Heenan on top of Taylor just as Dollar turned around and dropped to the mat for the three count. Bundy dragged Heenan to ringside and the tandem escaped ringside to huge heat.
Harley Race b. Gorgeous George w/Cherie Dupré
Morgan Dollar sends Dupré to the back after she spends considerable time getting George ready for action and once again George loses him mind. Race takes advantage gaining an early upper hand but George comes back when Race gets tangled up in Dr. Mike Lano. Race survives a SPINNING TOE HOLD and manages to catch George on to the top and toss him to the mat. George returns the favour when Race sets up for DIVING HEADBUTT. The action goes back and forth until Race catches George on the top again and tosses him to the mat. Race then executes back to back to back PILEDRIVERS for a vicious conclusion to a closely contested match.
Bruiser Brody b. Bobo Brazil
Brody and Brazil clashed from the opening bell and neither man was going to give an inch. Brody forced the action to the floor and maintained the advantage. Back inside, Brody landed a running leg drop which set up a JUMPING KNEE DROP end the match quickly stunning many in attendance.
“Macho Man” Randy Savage b. Canadian Champion Lou Thesz to win the title
Savage countered Thesz’s attack from the lock up and exploded in an impressive attack that included several running knees into the back, back elbow smashes and a neckbreaker clothesline. Thesz escaped to the floor but Savage kept on him bring the action back inside and the landing a huge FLYING ELBOW SMASH for the three count. Thesz has only one offensive move the entire match! Savage is announced as the new champion and is joined in the ring by the balance of the Prodigal Sons for a post match celebration that draws epic heat.
History is made in Brantford as we have a new Canadian Champion in Randy Savage. The Prodigal Sons now have control of the territory’s top prize and fans are beginning to wonder who will stop the power faction from taking all the gold. Savage had better hand onto his new title tightly as the rematch with Lou Thesz has already been inked for July 28th in Windsor. Thesz will also have an opportunity to get his hands on Savage next week as part of the main event for stacked card at the Scarborough Arena Gardens featuring the following matches:
**In what should be a fast paced encounter, Lenny Lane battles Marty Jannetty in singles competition.
**In a rematch from tonight’s card, Diamond Dallas Page once again clashes with Buddy Rogers as both men look to move up the rankings with a victory
**Not pleased with the conclusion of the tag team battle tonight, Chaz Taylor and his father Tugboat Taylor have demanded another bout against the team of Bobby Heenan & King Kong Bundy and that match has been signed for next week
**In a rematch, Harley Race will attempt to regain the Commonwealth Belt from Jimmy Snuka
**In the main event, Canadian Open Tag Team Champions Road Warriors will join up with former Canadian Champion Lou Thesz to battle the Prodigal Sons team of Canadian Champion Randy Savage, Ted DiBiase & Greg Valentine
