Card 1.8 – Harrisburg, PA – Zembo Mosque
Match 1: Foreign Legion w/Nikita Breznikov v. Gorgeous George & Playboy Buddy Rose w/Cherie Dupré
Long intro for Rose & George as George takes his time “preparing” at ringside. Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff draw huge heat especially when they get on the mic. Sheik struggles against Rose and then George early on. Volkoff makes the defensive tag into the match and destroys George with is power. A BACKBREAKER DROP ends it as Sheik blocks Rose. (Volkoff 4; Sheik 2; Rose 4; George 4) (*)
Match 2: Killer Kowalski v. Ox Baker Two of the biggest and most hated men in Legends Championship Wrestling met in the second match of the night. Kowalski looks impressive from the opening bell until the match goes to the floor. Kowalski eats the ring post and is busted open. Baker immediately goes for the win with a HEART PUNCH but Kowalski is able to kick out. Baker then drops Kowalski with a second HEART PUNCH but Kowalski refuses to stay down. Baker looks stunned but then become irate and drops Kowalski with a third consecutive HEART PUNCH. The fans make the three count along with the referee. Baker is actually shaking out his hand after having to nail Kowalski three times in a row to get the win. Kowalski is a long time getting to his feet. (Kowalski 7; Baker 4) (**)
Match 3: Ted DiBiase w/Virgil v. Frank Gotch Virgil accompanies the Million Dollar Man to ringside and he has his fists already tapped for his showdown with Red Bastien later to night. DiBiase attempts to pay off Gotch who slaps the cash out of DiBiase’s hand earning a huge pop from ringside. You can say what you want about DiBiase’s underhanded tactics, but he can still wrestle with the best of them and he takes the match to Gotch early on. Things turn around for Gotch when he catches DiBiase on the top of the buckles and tosses him to the mat bringing the crowd back into the match. Virgil’s distraction saves the Million Dollar Man from a GOTCH TOE HOLD. The action spills to the floor and DiBiase grabs a chair but Gotch wrestles the chair away and nails DiBiase in the midsection. The bell sounds and Gotch has been disqualified. Gotch is not pleased and goes after DiBiase but the Million Dollar Man is able to escape ringside before Gotch can get his hands on him. (Gotch 2; DiBiase 5) (**)
Match 4: Taped Fist Match – Virgil v. Red Bastien Bastien looks a little uncomfortable with his hands wrapped up while Virgil looks completely at home. Bastien quickly discovers he needs to keep away from his opponent when a right hook knocks Bastien the floor. Bastien continue to struggle and barely escapes a pair of COBRA CLUTCHES. The momentum turns around when Bastien is able to start wrestling and uses his agility to keep Virgil on the defensive. Virgil kicks out after an ATOMIC DROP but moments later, Bastien misses a deathjump smash and crashes to the mat leading to a near win by Virgil. The action ends up outside where Virgil rams Bastien’s face into the steel rails busting him open. The referee calls for the disqualification but the action does not stop with both men brawling until security arrives to pull them apart. (Virgil 5; Bastien 5) (**)
Match 5: Road Warriors v. Team Extreme Sandman cracks a beer over his head and tells Snuka to do the same and the Superfly complies soaking ringside with some cold draft. Hawk tears into The Sandman from the bell and the Warriors quickly execute a DOOMSDAY DEVICE for the win but Snuka jumps into the ring and the action continues. The Superfly does colour outside the ring when Animal rams him head first into the steel rails. The sight of his own blood fires up Snuka and he is the star of the bout from this point. Snuka bring the fans to their feet twice over the next few minutes with dives over the ropes onto Hawk and then Animal. A spike piledriver slows the Superfly down but Snuka manages to avoid Animal’s deathjump and nearly gets the upset pin. Hawk has to save Animal from being pinned after a White Russian Leg Sweep before Hawk is able to make the hot tag back into the action and the end comes quickly after that with a DOOMSDAY DEVICE on The Sandman. Animal makes the cover while Hawk battles Snuka. The Warriors have their first clean win but were pushed to the limit by their opponents. (Hawk 2; Animal 6; Sandman 5; Snuka 4) (***)
Match 6: Harley Race v. Nick Bockwinkel The previous meetings between these two have ended in disqualification finishes so the fans are buzzing from the beginning of this one. There is great exchange early on where Bockwinkel counters a backdrop with a piledriver and then applies a BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER but Race manages to make it to the ropes. Bockwinkel appears to have finally figured out Race and dominates the match. Race escapes another BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER and makes it the ropes to break free of a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK. Race manages to turn things around at ringside when he counters Bockwinkel’s falling double hammer. The match returns to the ring and Race plants Bockwinkel with a choke slam for the comeback win. Snake eyes! Great match! (Race 6; Bockwinkel 5) (***)
Match 7: Buddy Rogers v. Bobo Brazil The winner of this one will face World Champion Dick Hutton on the next card. The ovation for Brazil blows the roof off the Zembo Mosque. This one ends much too quickly for the fans liking. The match ends up spilling to the floor in the opening minutes and Rogers is disqualified for ramming Brazil into the steel rails by the fans. Rogers snaps after the bell going after the referee. Rogers traps the official in a FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE. A bloody Brazil recovers and breaks up the attack but the referee needs medical attention and assistance leaving the ring. (Brazil 1, Rogers 1) (dud)
Match 8: World Tag Team Title Match – Johnny & Greg Valentine (ch) v. Giant Baba & The Destroyer The teams shake hands at the bell and the fans show their appreciation. The tandem from Japan looks determined to get the straps back from the Valentines early on. This one gets plenty of time. Johnny Valentine goes colour after Baba rams him face first into the steel rails. Baba comes very close to ending it moments later with a piledriver that had the fans thinking it was over. No one can hit their finisher and both teams have the advantage at various times. The finish comes when Baba avoids Greg Valentine’s charge into the corner and the Hammer crashes hard into the buckles. Baba quickly covers Valentine for the win while Destroyer cuts off Johnny from saving his son. Baba & Destroyer are now two time World Tag Team Champions. (Destroyer 2; Baba 2; Johnny V 3; Greg V 7) (***)

The Champions were quick to offer the Valentines a return match and that event has been signed for card 1.10 at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena and will be best of three falls contest . . . The Foreign Legion are positioning themselves near the top of the tag team rankings and Nikita Brezikov is already pushing for Title shot for his team . . . No doubt that the fans will want to see more action between Killer Kowalski and Ox Baker after their hard hitting and violent contest tonight . . . Frank Gotch has demanded a rematch with Ted DiBiase and promoters are attempting to sign a return bout as soon as possible . . . Speaking of return matches, Team Extreme wants another crack at the Legion of Doom after nearly defeating Hawk and Animal tonight . . .There was finally a decisive finish between Harley Race and Nick Bockwinkel but both competitors want another match so we can expect these two to be across the ring from each other once again real soon. Buddy Rogers bought himself a four card suspension for his attack on the referee which may bump the Nature Boy out of title contention for the balance of the season.

A Solid Card but too bad George & Rose lost to the Foreign League and Kowalski taking Two Heart Punches before finally losing out to a Third is Wildly Cool...
Frank Gotch got caught in the classic grab the Chair from your opponent and being DQ'd ploy is all good for DiBiase...
Nice to see Giant Baba & The Destroyer win their Second Tag Team Titles...

Match 3: Ox Baker v. Killer Kowalski The fans are ready for some hard hitting action from these two. The action is once again intense. Kowalski hold the advantage this time. Ted DiBiase w/Virgil DiBiase is out to great heat flashing the cash at ringside. Virgil has his hands taped up again. Gotch is fired up and goes crazy on DiBiase from the opening bell. DiBiase escapes a pair of GOTCH TOE HOLDS before the match goes outside again. Gotch rams DiBiase into the rails and DiBiase does colour. The referee calls for the bell and the disqualification. DiBiase gets on his bike and flees ringside while Gotch tries to corner Virgil who hops over the rails and runs through the crowd. (DiBiase 4; Gotch 1) (* ½) Match 5: Team Extreme v. Road Warriors Another contest between these two teams. Jimmy Snuka and The Sandman both crack a beer and the fans eat it up. Snuka looks impressive early on against both Warriors. Animal gets the advantage against Sandman and nearly ends it with a POWERSLAM. The Warriors get back into the match with Hawk tossing around both opponents. Things turn again and Animal takes three HARDCORE DDTs but kicks out each time. The action goes to the floor and Sandman rams Hawk into the rails and is disqualified. Sandman continues the beat down at ringside but Hawk no sells a series of punches and then clotheslines Sandman out his shoes while Animal press slams Snuka in the ring. Match 6: Texas Death Match – Red Bastien v. Virgil w/Ted DiBiase Great pop for Bastien. Virgil has his fists taped up and is ready to knock Bastien’s block off. This one is wild from the outset with Frank Gotch storming the ring and chasing DiBiase to the back to a solid ovation. The action goes in and out of the ring. Virgil’s taped fist blows give him the early edge. Bastien uses a rope to choke out Virgil to turn the action around. Both men hit their finishers but cannot get the win. In the end, it was Virgil’s fists that made the difference as he picked up the win with combo punches. Huge heat for Virgil as he is announced as the winner. (Bastien 8, Virgil 6) (*** ½)
Match 7: Six Man Tag Team Elimination Match: Nick Bockwinkel, Greg Valentine & Johnny Valentine v. Giant Baba, Harley Race & The Destroyer The fans are still buzzing after the violence of the last match. All six men are very focused during the introductions. Ringside is filled with media from Asia to cover the action. The Tag Team Champions and Race cut off Johnny Valentine early on but Valentine survives a pair of pin attempts to eventually tag out. Baba, Destroyer and Race continue to set the pace. The crowd explodes for Race v. Bockwinkel. The first elimination comes when Bockwinkel blocks Race’s falling double hammer at ringside with a punch to the midsection and then quickly finishes Race off with a BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER. Destroyer tears into Bockwinkel to start the next fall but cannot get Bockwinkel’s shoulders to the mat. Baba and Johnny Valentine brawl at ringside and Valentine cracks Baba across the back with a chair shot and is disqualified. Baba crawls back into the ring and Greg Valentine is all over him with Valentine chops to open the next fall. Baba gets trapped in the ropes and Valentine hammers away with elbows and chops. The referee steps in and Valentine shoves the official to the mat. The bell sounds and Greg Valentine is eliminated by disqualification. Destroyer assists the official in untangling Baba but Bockwinkel is right there and ends Baba’s night with a back suplex. Destroyer is fired up and charges after Bockwinkel in the corner who wisely sends Destroyer flying over the corner with a backdrop. Valentine 3; Baba 4; Destroyer 5; Race 3) (***)
Match 8: World Title Match – Dick Hutton (ch) v. Bobo Brazil Solid ovation for both men during the introductions. Handshake starts the action. Once again Hutton is the underdog. Brazil recovers enough and picks up a couple of near falls. A bear hug nearly ends it but the end comes when Brazil gets tangled in the ropes and Hutton refuses to allow the referee in to free Brazil and is disqualified. The fans are not pleased and fill the ring with trash. (Brazil 2, Hutton 6) (**)

What a night for Nick Bockwinkel picking up all three eliminations for his team in the big six man tag team match up . . . Bobo Brazil left the arena just as frustrated as the fans after the disqualification finish to his world title match with Dick Hutton. Brazil is looking for an immediate rematch . . .

More exciting action, I really like how Team Extreme are pissing off other teams and Dick Hutton losing the match via DQ but not losing the Gold to Brazil was a great moment, it'll be fun to see what happens next...
