Card 25: New York City, NY Madison Square Garden
Match 1: Iron Sheik w/Nikita Brezikov v. Harley Race Ask how much the fan hate the Sheik. We get a huge USA chant to start off the night. Great counter wrestling in the beginning before Race gains control. Sheik shows his toughness and manages to kick out after a PILEDRIVER. Race continues to dominate until Breznikov interferes at ringside cracking Race across the back with a chair. Race manages to beat the ten count back into the ring but the damage is done and Sheik gets the big win with a CAMEL CLUTCH (Sheik 5; Race 4) ** ½
Match 2: King Kong Bundy & Ted DiBiase v. Killer Bees Bundy & DiBiase have had no success as a team since returning to LCW while the Bees have struggled all season to find consistency. Bundy and B. Brian Blair trade moves early on but the Million Dollar Man assumes control of the bout against Jim Brunzell. The Killer Bee escapes back to back MILLION DOLLAR SLEEPERS but DiBiase uses a third and Brunzell has no counter. Bundy blocks Blair and that is it. (Bundy 4; DiBiase 2; Blair 4; Brunzell 7) * ½ Match 3: Texas Death Match – Sabu v. Dick Hutton The fans at ringside are braced for impact after the wild contest these two have had in the last half of this season. Sabu sets the pace with back to back Arabian facebusters early on and Hutton is an absolute bloody mess. Hutton survives a pair of CAMEL CLUTCHES and then manages to take control with some excellent counter wrestling. Sabu regains control at ringside when he cracks Hutton with a lead pipe that Hutton had actually grabbed from under the ring. Back inside, Sabu applies a CAMEL CLUTCH and Hutton blacks out. (Sabu 2; Hutton 9) *** ½ Match 4: Midnight Express w/Jim Cornette v. The Destroyer & Giant Baba The Japanese team of Destroyer and Baba have been hot late in the season and were looking to finish out the season with another victory. Destroyer trades moves with Stan Lane while the fans give it to Cornette at ringside. Suddenly Don Leo Jonathan arrives and distracts Bobby Eaton and Cornette. Destroyer takes advantage and gets the win over Lane with a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK. Jonathan laughs at the chaos he has caused for Cornette and leaves ringside. (Baba 2; Destroyer 2; Lane 4; Eaton 3) (dud). Match 5: Best of Three Falls - Don Leo Jonathan v. Bobo Brazil This one starts with a lengthy, intense stair down that lasts for almost a minute. With the crowd going nuts, Jonathan extends his hand to Brazil and Bobo accepts. The fans pop and suddenly this match was no longer about the bitter feud between these two men. Instead it is about glory honour and respect. The action was hard hitting and intense from the outset. Jonathan used his size advantage well early on but Brazil showed his resistance and battled back. There was plenty of brawling at ringside and the referee seemed content to let the action flow in and out of the ring. Jonathan ears some heat ramming Brazil back first into the ring post and Brazil later turns some heads with a Bobo body slam onto the arena floor. Both men hit their finishers without success. Brazil later rolls clear of a deathjump attempt for a near fall. Brazil gets the win in the first fall with a COCO BUTT with Jonathan kicking out just as the official finished the three count. Jonathan comes out on fire to start the second fall and throws everything he can at Brazil. Twice Brazil survives a MORMON SWING. Jonathan nearly gets the win with a roll up in the corner. Brazil is able to drag Jonathan to the floor and whips him shoulder first into ring post. The move is enough to stop the Mormon Giant and Brazil ends it seconds later with a COCO BUTT. The fans are not pleased with Brazil’s actions and give him some heat as he is announced as the winner. (Brazil 8; Jonathan 7) *****
Match 6: Nick Bockwinkel v. Mil Mascaras It was an injury at the hands of Bockwinkel back on card 21 of this season that caused Mascaras to be stripped of the World Title and this was their first meeting since then. Mascaras dominates 90% of the action from the outset with a combination of speed and mat skills. Bockwinkel is able to gain the edge during a brawl on the floor but a BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER is unsuccessful. Mascaras bloodies Bockwinkel at ringside with the ring rails the fans explode. The end comes at ringside when Bockwinkel runs Mascaras face first into the ring post and the referee calls for the disqualification. Both men continue to brawl after the bell and security is needed to pull them apart. (Bockwinkel 5; Mascaras 2) **
Match 7: World Tag Team Title Match – Road Warriors (ch) v. Frank Gotch & Red Bastien Bastien & Gotch are the first team all season who have come close to stopping the Road Warriors. Gotch takes on Hawk early on and the Road Warrior overpowers his opponent. Animal keeps up the advantage before Hawk is back in again. The fight goes to the floor when Gotch and Hawk tangle. The referee comes out to restore order but Gotch shoves the referee to the floor and earns a disqualification. Bastien is clearly disappointed after the match and confront Gotch who just turns and leaves Bastien in the ring. (Hawk 2; Animal 3; Bastien 3; Gotch 2) (dud)
Match 8: Steel Cage/Chain Match – Greg Valentine w/Captain Lou Albano v. Johnny Valentine For the second straight year, the Valentines headline the final card of the season in side a steel cage. This time against each other. There is a nervous energy at ringside as both men are attached to the chain and the cage door closes. This one is bloody like you would expect and does not last that long. Valentine uses the chain to bloody his father and Valentine busts open the Hammer with the cage wall. The end comes when Valentine slingshots Hammer into the wall and then nails him with an ATOMIC SKULLCRUSHER for the three count. The fans are on their feet. Suddenly, two masked men scale the cage and attacked Johnny Valentine. Albano gains control of the door and gets inside the cage. It is a two on one beat down. They make uses the chain choking out Valentine. Albano gets in a few kicks for good measure. The Hammer recovers and demands to know what is going on and the two masked men then turn on the Hammer beating him down as well. The masked men then end the bout with a series of deathjump smashes leaving both Valentines bloody and beaten in the middle of the ring. Albano leads his masked Executioners away while security holds back ringside.
News & Views: Johnny Valentine gets the win in his feud against his son but it is Albano who gets the best of both Valentines in the end . . . Frank Gotch’s inability to control his temper cost him and Red Bastien the decision in their battle against the World Tag Team Champions as the Road Warriors close out the year as the most dominating Champions in LCW history . . . Sabu ended his feud with Dick Hutton in dominating and bloody fashion . . .The Killer Bees continued to struggle all season and just could not find a way to win their matches . . .Big win for Iron Sheik to close out the season. Will Sheik be back next season to continue his singles success? . . Mil Mascaras manages to dominate in his return against Nick Bockwinkel but is denied a clean victory over the man who cost him the World Title . . .

A great show at MSG, Bookerbill. A nice way to end your current season. That was a real interesting post-match situation with Captain Lou Albano and the masked Executioners laying out both Johnny and Greg Valentine. I can't wait to see how that plays out. Sorry to see Gotch & Bastien fail in their bid to unseat the Road Warriors but Hawk & Animal are very hard to beat. Mil Mascaras vs. Nick Bockwinkel and Sabu vs. Dick Hutton were great bouts and it was awesome seeing the Iron Sheik over Harley Race in the opener. Hopefully the Iron Sheik will return for the next season. It would be cool to see Sheik go against Sabu in a battle of the Camel Clutch.
