RING OF HONOR TELEVISION
2016 Season Episode 25
Affluence, consisting of new ROH World Champion Adam Cole, Jay Lethal, Christopher Daniels, and Kazarian, came out at the opening of the show and joined ROH on-air personalities Stokely Hathaway and Veda Scott in the ring. Veda stood to the side, looking troubled and not participating. Cole was his usual smug self, taking the mic from Hathaway and dismissing him. “Beat it Stokely. We don’t need Nigel McGuinness’ lackeys hogging our spotlight.” Hathaway started to protest but retreated when Kaz drew his fist back, threatening violence. “And speaking of Nigel McGuinness: Hey Nigel, look who has the ROH World Championship,” Cole gloated, admiring the title belt around his waist. Daniels and Kaz clapped their hands but Jay Lethal just stood there with a dour expression.
“That’s right, all the power is back in the hands of Affluence. And I just bet that burns you up, doesn’t it Nigel? That’s probably why you scheduled me and a partner to face War Machine in the main event tonight, hoping we take some lumps. Well, that’s fine. We’ll show you that Affluence is the force to be reckoned with in Ring of Honor.”
Cole turned the mic over to the “Ring General”, Christopher Daniels.
“Adam, I’m sure you and Jay will have no trouble here tonight against…”
Cole interrupted Daniels and took the mic back.
“Let me stop you right there, Chris. Jay, no offense, but I’m gonna team with another partner tonight.” Daniels and Kaz brightened up, pointing at each other, wondering which of them it would be. “That being said, I introduce to you the newest member of Affluence - Matt Taven!”
Daniels did a double take and Taven made his entrance. Daniels was beside himself. It was obvious Cole had not consulted him about Taven’s recruitment. Matt hugged Cole and offered a hand to Kaz who shook it, unsure. Taven approached Lethal who glared at him, aborting the greeting. Matt turned to Daniels and extended his hand with a grin. Daniels shook his head, grabbing the mic back from Cole.
“Oh, no. Uh, uh. No way is this guy joining Affluence.” Cole looked perturbed and Taven feigned hurt feelings. “I see what’s going on here. It’s the oldest trick in the book. Don’t fall for it Adam.”
“What in the hell are you talking about?” Cole replied.
“He’s one of Martini’s guys. This is Truth trying to mess with us. He’s trying to make me look like a fool again.”
“Will you get ahold of yourself.” Cole was showing impatience. “You really let him get into your head, didn’t you. Hey, we beat him. This right here proves it.” Cole patted the ROH belt.
“But…” Daniels stammered.
“Enough. Taven’s on the team. Because I say so. I’m the champ and we’re going to start doing things my way. We already got rid of one big liability, I don’t need any more.”
Cole clapped Taven on the shoulder and they made to leave. Kaz tried consoling Daniels and they left as well. Lethal lingered a bit then trailed behind the rest of his teammates.
Michael Elgin def. Silas Young by pin
It took Silas a while to gain any ground as it looked like Elgin was going to pound him into oblivion. But just as Young looked to get on a roll, Big Mike caught him with a surprise sunset flip for the pin.
The participants for the next match were in the ring and Donovan Djiak’s manager Truth Martini had some words for ROH World Television Champion BJ Whitmer. He claimed BJ was lucky to win the TV title and even luckier to retain against Dijak at Death Before Dishonor after Whitmer got beat to within an inch of his life Truth proposed, that since they were in Las Vegas for these ROH Television tapings, maybe BJ had enough courage to keep his streak going and put the TV title on the line for their rematch. With the backing of the crowd, Whitmer accepted. Martini laughed and said that BJ’s luck was about to run out.
ROH WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP
Donovan Dijak w/Truth Martini def. BJ Whitmer(c) by pin
Both men came out slugging, ignoring the Code of Honor. BJ got the upperhand and got a near fall after an amazing superplex on the 6’8” Dijak. The challenger bailed out of the ring and regrouped with his manager. Whatever strategy they discussed didn’t work because Dijak was thrown to the mat with an impressive Wrist Clutch Exploder. Only Donovan’s length saved him as he easily got his leg onto the bottom rope. Dijak turned things around and started pounding BJ, using his size to his advantage. It was starting to look like a replay of their Death Before Dishonor match but Whitmer was quick to turn the tide and get Dijak into another pinning predicament which spurred Martini to distract the ref. The match turned into a war with the ref letting them fight. Dijak took multiple chair shots from the champion while BJ survived Feast You Eyes three times. On the fourth try, Feast Your Eyes KOed Whitmer and Dijak became the new ROH World Television Champion. After being handed the belt, Dijak looked like he was going to beat the defenseless Whitmer with it. Truth intervened and they laughed over BJ’s prone form.
ROH Update with Stokely Hathaway
“Ring of Honor’s next pay-per-view event, All Star Extravaganza VIII, comes to you from Lowell, MA. And I have a huge announcement for that night, ROH fans. The battles taking place for the ROH World Tag Team Championship between reDRagon and the new champions ANX have been leading up to this. In three weeks, these two teams will meet in Ladder War 6! Long regarded as one of ROH’s most popular and most dangerous matches, Ladder War will leave no doubt as to who is the best tag team in Ring of Honor!”
Adam Cole & Matt Taven def. War Machine by DQ
Cole, the new ROH World Champion, started out against Hanson. When things wouldn’t go his way, he tagged in the newest member of Affluence. Taven had better luck against Warbeard, getting a two count after a superkick to the back of the head. Cole wanted the tag back in and they combined for a Hail Mary piledriver made famous by Taven and his Kingdom partner Michael Bennett. Hanson was hurt and Raymond Rowe tried to make the save. The ref blocked him but Rowe’s concern for his partner caused him to act rashly and hurl the referee through the ropes and down to the floor. Rowe went on a tear, landing knees and fists on both Cole and Taven. The ref regained the ring and, predictably, disqualified War Machine for Rowe laying his hands on an official. Cole And Taven were self-satisfied with the win. Hanson was in pain but seemed to recover without having suffered a lasting injury.
