Sonnen makes his second defense of the title. That's all I really paid attention to and that's all I wanted to see.

Sonnen makes his second defense of the title. That's all I really paid attention to and that's all I wanted to see. Even if he was able to finish the fight (which he wasn't, and that's how you win a fight, by finishing the other guy, not by having other people break it up) he tested positive for steroids after the fight and would have been stripped of the title anyways, right? As for the show last night - Wow is UFC in big trouble. I learned 3 things last night - 1 - Dana White can learn a lot from Vince McMahon. 2 - Dana White has no clue how to get his fighters over 3 - When UFC is a dead sport in 5-7 years, we'll look back on this night as the beginning of the end. Right now Dana White has no clue how to put on a show for anyone but MMA's most loyal followers. From a visual standpoint, not one fighter with an ounce of charisma or flare was booked on that show. No Rampage type, no giants, no wild looking guys, nothing "special" that could ever "hook" the kind of audience these FOX shows are designed for. Would have been smart to have booked two bangers against each other in the opening fight and pray for a sick KO. Instead, we got maybe the worst fight of all time. How many casual viewers do you think changed the channel to Storage Wars at about round 2 of that fight and never looked back? Chael Sonnen may as well have dropped his pants and taken a giant dump in the middle of the ring because that's exactly what his humiliating and embarrassing post fight nonsensical comments did to the sport. I was embarrassed for White as Sonnen spoke, and I'm not even a big UFC head. To the casual viewer, here is this average looking skinny ass white boy with 11 wins who barely won a fight, didn't even hurt his opponent, talking like he is the Rock. Couldn't have come off more forced and scripted. Made the whole company look incredibly stupid. Main Event was two guys who by all accounts look like the same fighter just different trunks. At first I liked the idea of wrestler v wrestler PSU vs. MSU but one round into it I realized what a mistake this was. 5 rounds of total boredom. Lastly, love Jon Bones Jones dude sucks on the mic. Did they even try to train this guy? All he did was read off his notes and the camera did nothing to try and hide it. Made him look bad imo. Not how you want to get your main dude over with a new crowd. Horrible. Not one thing about this show delivered. Negative 5 stars. Really appears as if the sole reason UFC was ever even able to reach mainstream to begin with was because of one guy - Brock Lesnar. And with him gone UFC looks like they're in big trouble moving forward. I hope I am wrong but that's how it looks today.

I enjoyed Chael when he spewed nonsense out of his mouth and it was funny and you asked yourself "Is he serious?" Now he spews bad pro wrestling speeches pre and post fight, they're unbelievably stupid and you tell yourself "Jesus, he's serious." The undercard on Fuel was pretty good last night.

His second defense of the imaginary middleweight title? It's still real to him, dammit.

Cards like this killed the Heavyweight Boxing division in the US...
Boxing promoters in Europe have jumped on the "show" aspect and have drawn attention and HUGE crowds and to the Heavyweight division.
UFC, while it wants to show the "Sport", as Swarm says, needs to bring the "Show" as well.
The Undertaker, in just making a passing comment to Lesnar, got them more attention then the fight he was there to watch.
I did tune into the show last night, but not until after watching "Dodgeball" and actively switching back and forth the the the U.S. Figure Skating Championships (yes, my wife was in the room) and the NHL All Star Skills Challenge.

Stann is a legitimately tough dude at 15-4 (served in the Marine Corp) and Sonnen absolutely owned him. I really don't see 185 pound guy at 6"1' as an average looking skinny ass white boy. I'll admit some of his antics are a bit odd, but is it really that much different than Brock flipping the crowd off at UFC 100, and then blatantly telling Joe Rogan in his post fight interview that he was going to have a coors light, because the sponsor was too cheap to pay him? Not one thing about this show delivered. Negative 5 stars. Really appears as if the sole reason UFC was ever even able to reach mainstream to begin with was because of one guy - Brock Lesnar. Lesnar is certainly the biggest draw in UFC history (not to mention one of my fav's), but is not the only reason UFC went mainstream. I think guys like Lidell, Ortiz (hate to admit that one), Rampage, & Couture had something to do with it too. I also think guys on this card will come up big in the future, as well as Bones Jones and when he can get healthy, George Saint Pierre.

I really don't see 185 pound guy at 6"1' as an average looking skinny ass white boy. It's a typo. 11 losses not wins. with 11 wins losses who barely won a fight His record is 27-11 or something. Not exactly impressive to the casual viewer and certainly not the kind of record you'd think a big talker like Sonnen would have. Whether or not you are impressed with his body isn't the point. Point is to casual fan these Fox shows he looks like an average Joe. I'll admit some of his antics are a bit odd, but is it really that much different than Brock flipping the crowd off at UFC 100, and then blatantly telling Joe Rogan in his post fight interview that he was going to have a coors light, because the sponsor was too cheap to pay him? Not even close to being same thing. Brock is a marketing dream. Has the look and at the time, talked the talk. Sonnen is just some average Joe who barely won a fight and talked like he just KO'd Muhammed Ali. Are you looking at this though the eyes of yourself or a casual fan? I am speaking from the viewpoint of a casual fan. No casual fan on the planet is ever going to be drawn into the sport by Sonnen the way Brock was able to do. Where is all the mass media coverage of Sonnen's win this week? ESPN? ESPN 2? Yahoo front page? Anywhere? No. Nowhere. Cause he isn't a draw like Brock. Not even on same planet.

Point is to casual fan these Fox shows he looks like an average Joe. yes 11 losses is a lot, but in the world of MMA, it matters most what you have done in your last 5 fights. 4 of his last fights, he won decisively. Decision or not, he won all unanimously. His one loss was against a guy who is arguable the best pound for pound fighter today. He had the fight won, and got caught. Still a loss, but nonetheless, he showed in the fight that he was good enough to be considered one of the best in the division. That is why is in the position to get a title match once again. I have no idea where you get this "average Joe looking skinny ass white boy" persona out of Sonnen. Not even close to being same thing. Brock is a marketing dream. Has the look and at the time, talked the talk. Sonnen is just some average Joe who barely won a fight and talked like he just KO'd Muhammed Ali. Even the biggest Lesnar haters can't deny that he's the biggest draw in UFC history. However, the post interview performances had nothing to do with who can draw better. The post interview had everything to do with one thing: winning. Both guys won big fights, and that's why they gloated. Period.
