In the history of asshats, you'll find none bigger than Raffi Torres. I applaud the Hawks players for having the restraint to not two hand slash him upside the head with their sticks. He definitely deserves far worse.

Another great night of hockey yesterday. Pekka Rinne has been absolutely outstanding vs. Detroit this year. Any other goalie in net and Wings win Game 4. Detroit got 41 shots and only gave up 17 shots but lost the game. That's why playoff hockey is awesome. If you have a hot goalie, you're going to win. Detroit outplayed the Preds for most of that game but Rinne was a wall.
Florida with a shocking come-from-behind win against NJ. Being down 3-0 in the first 7 minutes of the game then turning it around, forcing NJ to pull Brodeur and then winning 4-3 was an outstanding feat by the Panthers. That series is heating up.
And the Coyotes-Blackhawks series took a turn for the worse as repeat goon offender Raffi Torres puts Hossa on a stretcher after leaving his feet and giving Hossa a flying shoulder block to the head. They showed a video package of Torres clobbering a bunch of guys the past 2 seasons and each time he leaves his feet and hits guys in the head. Wouldn't be surprised to see Shannahan suspend this guy for a few games. The game itself was great - another OT thriller with PHX taking control of the series 2-1.
Looking forward to seeing the 3 games tonight. Pens with 3 guys suspended will probably get swept and the Canucks need to stave off elimination. I think NYR puts a stranglehold on their series tonight vs. Ottawa.

Been enjoying these playoffs as much if not more than the past few years. The Wings do get a lot of shots but all 40+ of them were not high quality. The Wings do not have strength to crash the net like many teams therefore a lot of these shots aren't really all that dangerous. Not trying to take anything away from Rinne at all, dude is amazing, but I didn't see 40 quality shots on him last night. On the flip side, I'm still waiting to see something, anything out of Howard that shows me the Wings can win a cup with him. I don't think they can. He is an average playoff net minder going by the eye test.
The Chicago Phoenix game oh man. Retribution. Hey, that's hockey. Shouldn't have smeared their goalie. With that said, hope Hossa doesn't have any serious injuries. I didn't think Torres hit was really all that bad other than leaving his feet. I think the damage came from Hossa being completely blind-sided while trying to handle the puck. He got hit .8 seconds after losing the puck so other tna leaving his feet, I'm not sure the hit was as malicious as the outcome makes it seem. No penalty so...I think maybe he gets 1 game. We'll see.
Didn't get a chance to watch any Panthers v. Devils but hearing Brodeur was pulled is not a good sign. Will have to catch the highlights today.

You never see 40 shots in a hockey game where ALL of them are super high quality scoring chances. Sure there were some that are easy saves for the goalie but the Wings got many quality scoring chances in that game.
If you get a lot of shots what that means is that you're controlling the play. It doesn't mean you will win or every shot is a 2-on-1 breakaway but that your team has the puck more and putting the puck to the net which is what you need to do in the playoffs. Most of the time the initial shot isn't a great chance to score but teams are hoping it turns into a better scoring chance by trying to get a rebound around the net and put it in.
Preds coach Barry Trotz said how he wasn't happy how his team was giving up so many shots and chances to Detroit.
You're right about Howard not playing well. While he hasn't been horrible, he has had some bad breakdowns at key times which have led to goals.
The biggest problem for Detroit in Game 4 IMO was their power play. 1 for 7. When you get 7 power plays, you've got to get more than 1 goal. Again, Rinne shut the door.
I think Rinne could easily take the Preds all the way to the Cup. The playoffs are about defense and the Preds and Kings are playing the best defense in the West right now, led by their goalies.

First Nashville & now St. Louis have advanced to the second round of the playoffs. Both eliminating their opponents in 5 games. So San Jose & Detroit are done.

And Raffi Torres got 25 games for his hit. He says he will wait a couple of days before thinking about filing an appeal.

Following tonight's action, both the Penguins & Canucks are out.
The Western Conference looks like this in the Second Round
ST. LOUIS BLUES v LOS ANGELES KINGS
and
NASHVILLE PREDATORS v either CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS or PHOENIX COYOTES (if Phoenix moves on they get the home ice advantage, if the Blackhawks move on the Pred's get home ice)

The NHL playoffs continue to be awesome! Chicago-Phoenix having every game go into OT has been great to watch! Boston and Washington going to Game 7, can't ask for a more exciting series than that.
It has been very shocking to see many big name teams going out in the 1st round like Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Vancouver. Now with Chicago, New York, New Jersey, and defending Cup champs Boston on the brink of elimination, we may be witnessing a changing of the guard in the NHL.
