At the beginning of the show, LWF General Manager Bill Watts was out to explain the next Pay-Per-View event, Legends Gone Wild. There will be a two-out-of-three-fall World Title rematch between champion Lou Thesz and former champion Barry Windham. Dory & Terry Funk will defend the World Tag Team belts against former champions Demolition, also a two-out-of-three-fall affair. And, there will be a series of matches that will set the theme for Legends Gone Wild. There will be a 16-man over-the-top-rope Battle Royal. The first four men eliminated from the Battle Royal will meet later in a Last Blood elimination Match,, in which the last man to bleed wins. The next four men eliminated will be in a Casket Elimination Match, in which the last man to successfully avoid being put in a casket wins. The next four eliminated will be in a four-way Chain Elimination Match, in which each man will be armed with a heavy steel chain, and the last man remaining wins. Finally, the last four men in the Battle Royal will be in a four-way Tables Elimination Match, where the last man to go through a table wins. The winners of the four stipulation matches will meet inside a Steel Cage in an elimination match, with the winner getting $100,000 and a World Title shot. Watts added that, next week, there will be four one-on-one qualifying matches, one with each gimmick, to determine four spots in the Battle Royal.
MONGOLS (Bepo & Geeto) (low) beat “DOGFACED GREMLIN” RICK & SCOTT STEINER (low-b) when Geeto beat Rick with a Cross-Body Block (Referee: Gilberto Roman)
A camera crew was dispatched to the arena parking lot, where an ambulance was seen leaving. Gene Okerlund caught up to a distraught Kerry Von Erich, who said Oliver Humperdink’s men, Angelo Mosca and LWF National Champion Jacques Rougeau, jumped Kerry’s brother Kevin in the parking lot and beat him badly. Kerry said he wanted to go with Kevin in the ambulance, but Kevin told him to stay and have his scheduled rematch against Rougeau for the National Title. Kerry said, “Gene, nothing means more in the world to me than my family. Kev said he’s gonna be alright, and to not worry about a thing, and to go take that title back from that Canadian ‘Mountie.’ That’s all I’ve got to say.”
NON-TITLE MATCH LWF World Cruiserweight Champion JUSHIN “THUNDER” LIGER (low) beat PEPPER GOMEZ (low) with the Brainbuster finisher (Referee: Dave Hebner)
“GORGEOUS” JIMMY GARVIN (w/ Precious) (low-b) and “HOMICIDAL, SUICIDAL, GENOCIDAL” SABU (low) (w/ “Grand Wizard” Abdullah Farouk) (low) went to a no contest when Andre the Giant showed up and threw both men out of the ring over the top rope (Referee: Tommy Young) --Andre then started yelling threats to “Giant Killer” Akira Maeda, who, with the help of the Midnight Express, the Heavenly Bodies and Jim Cornette, injured him at LegendsMania. GM Bill Watts came out and told Andre that he’d be willing to give Andre a match with Maeda at the Legends Gone Wild PPV on June 1 … inside the Steel Cage!
Backstage, Bill Apter spoke with Sir Oliver Humperdink and his “House of Humperdink,” including National Champion Jacques Rougeau. Apter asked him about the parking lot attack on Kevin Von Erich, and Humperdink said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about, Bill Apter. I think that Kerry Von Erich is having another one of his delusional hallucinations. Kerry Von Erich, you should have gone on in that ambulance with your brother, because you are NOT going to get this title back tonight!”
STING (low-b) beat “HOLLYWOOD” BARRY WINDHAM (low-b) (w/ Bobby “The Brain” Heenan) (low) with a Flying Body Press (Referee: Mark Curtis) --Windham, who has a rematch with Lou Thesz for the LWF World Heavyweight Title at Legends Gone Wild, was totally shocked by the loss, as was Heenan, who had been knocked from the ring just prior to Sting’s win.
BOB BACKLUND (low-b) beat “NATURE BOY” BUDDY ROGERS (low) by disqualification when Rogers snapped, put Backlund in a Figure Four around the ringpost and wouldn’t let it go by the referee’s count (Referee: James Beard) --Rogers’ frustration at not being able to beat Backlund in two previous tries finally came to a boiling point as he shoved the referee away, wrapped Backlund’s legs around the post, and put the hold on. Several other officials came out to pull Rogers away from Backlund, who tried to stand afterwards but couldn’t.
“HANDS OF STONE” RONNIE GARVIN (low-b) beat “PRETTY BOY” LARRY SHARPE (low) with Brutal Chops (Referee: Bronko Lubich)
Before the next match, Solie and Ross announced that a Number One Contender’s Match has been signed for next week between Sting and Barry Windham, and the winner will face Lou Thesz for the World Title at Legends Gone Wild.
NON-TITLE MATCH LWF National Tag Team Champions NEW AGE OUTLAWS (“Bad Ass” Billy Gunn & “Road Dogg” Jesse James) (low) beat SAMOAN ISLAND TRIBE (Alofa & Samu) (low) when James beat Alofa with the Pump Handle Slam finisher (Referee: David Manning)
LWF MAIN EVENT--LWF NATIONAL HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH “MODERN DAY WARRIOR” KERRY VON ERICH (low-b) beat Champion “MOUNTIE” JACQUES ROUGEAU (low) (w/ “Sir” Oliver Humperdink) (low) with the Discus Punch finisher to win the belt (Referee: Earl Hebner) --After the match, Angelo Mosca attacked Kerry, but Lex Luger ran in and evened the sides. In the melee, Luger pressed Rougeau overhead, threw him over the top rope and sent him through a ringside table. A concerned Humperdink called frantically for help as he and Mosca attended to Rougeau.
Highlights will air, along with matches taped earlier in the night, Tuesday night at 10 p.m. Eastern/9 p.m. Central on LWF Prime Time Wrestling on ABC Family.

LWF PRIME TIME WRESTLING MAIN EVENT--TABLES QUALIFYING MATCH FOR LEGENDS GONE WILD PEPPER GOMEZ (low) beat “TOTAL PACKAGE” LEX LUGER (low-b) when the referee saw Luger lying in the remains of a table (Referee: Bronko Lubich) --To win the match, you had to put your opponent through a table. The winner would go on to the Battle Royal at the Legends Gone Wild PPV this Sunday night. With both Gomez and Luger down, Sir Oliver Humperdink climbed onto the ring apron and distracted the referee; while he did that, Angelo Mosca jumped into the ring and speared Luger through a table leaning against a corner. When the ref turned around, he saw Luger and the split table and called for the bell, awarding the match to Gomez, even though he didn’t actually see Gomez put Luger through the table.
ABC & The LWF Present WORLD CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING on ABC-TV (8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central Mondays, hosted by Gordon Solie & Jim Ross (hours 1 & 3), Mike Tenay & Larry Matysik (hour 2), Bill Apter, “Mean Gene” Okerlund & Gary Michael Cappetta)
FRANK GOTCH (low) beat “PRETTY BOY” LARRY SHARPE (low) with the Iowa Backdrop (Referee: Earl Hebner) --Gotch made his return to the LWF in this match.
CASKET QUALIFYING MATCH FOR LEGENDS GONE WILD BOB BACKLUND (low-b) beat “SIR” OLIVER HUMPERDINK (low) by putting him in the casket and closing the lid (Referee: Scrappy McGowan) --Jacques Rougeau was supposed to face Backlund in this match, but Humperdink had the tech crew run video of last week, when Lex Luger press-slammed Rougeau out of the ring and through the announcers’ table at ringside. Humperdink then said Rougeau couldn’t wrestle because of a back injury and that the LWF should give him a free pass into the Battle Royal. LWF General Manager Bill Watts came out and told Humperdink that, if Rougeau couldn’t compete tonight, then he couldn’t be in the Battle Royal. “However,” Watts said, “we WILL have a qualifying Casket Match tonight, so Bob Backlund will wrestle … YOU, Mr. Humperdink!” Humperdink protested as Backlund limped to the ring, his left knee in a heavy brace as a result of the ringpost Figure Four applied last week by Buddy Rogers. The match went on, and Angelo Mosca tried to interfere on his manager’s behalf. Luger, though, ran out and rammed Mosca headfirst into the casket, and the two fought up the aisle to the back, leaving Humperdink alone with Backlund, who stuffed him into the box and slammed the lid shut.
HANDICAP MATCH “EIGHTH WONDER OF THE WORLD” ANDRE THE GIANT (low-b) beat “GORGEOUS“ JIMMY GARVIN (w/ Precious) (low-b) & “HOMICIDAL, SUICIDAL, GENOCIDAL” SABU (low) (w/ “Grand Wizard” Abdullah Farouk) (low) by countout (Referee: Johnny “Red Shoes“ Dugan) --This resulted from last week, when Garvin vs. Sabu was interrupted by Andre, who tossed both men out while angrily calling out Akira Maeda. Bill Watts responded by giving Andre a Steel Cage Match against Maeda at Legends Gone Wild. In the meantime, Garvin and Sabu made a challenge to Andre for this match, but it didn’t last long as Garvin, the legal man in the ring, turned tail and ran away, with Sabu and Farouk chasing after him, resulting in the countout.
LAST BLOOD ELIMINATION QUALIFYING MATCH FOR LEGENDS GONE WILD “DOGFACED GREMLIN” RICK & SCOTT STEINER (low-b) beat MONGOLS (Bepo & Geeto) (low) when both Mongols were made to bleed (Referee: Tommy Young) --In this match, both members of the winning team would be allowed into the Battle Royal. The object was to make both members of the opposing team bleed. The Steiners attacked like pit bulldogs, working over the massive Mongols until Bepo and then Geeto bled, giving the brothers from Michigan entry into the Battle Royal on Sunday.
NON-TITLE MATCH “KING KONG” ANGELO MOSCA (low) (w/ “Sir” Oliver Humperdink) (low) beat LWF National Heavyweight Champion “MODERN DAY WARRIOR” KERRY VON ERICH (low-b) by disqualification when Lex Luger interfered, attacking Mosca (Referee: Gilberto Roman)
CHAIN QUALIFYING MATCH FOR LEGENDS GONE WILD “AMERICAN DREAM” DUSTY RHODES (low-b) beat KRUSHER KRUSCHEV (low-b) with the Figure-Four Leglock finisher (Referee: Nick Patrick) --Both men were joined together with a length of steel chain. Though Kruschev started with an early advantage, Rhodes came back, busted the Russian sympathizer open with the chain, and forced him to tap out with the Leglock to earn a spot in Sunday’s Battle Royal
LWF NATIONAL TAG TEAM TITLE REMATCH Champions NEW AGE OUTLAWS (“Bad Ass” Billy Gunn & “Road Dogg” Jesse James) (low) beat HEAVENLY BODIES (“Gangster Of Love” “Sweet“ Stan Lane & “Doctor Of Desire” Tom Prichard) (low) (w/ LWF Women’s World Champion “Sensational” Sherri Martel) (low) by disqualification when Prichard used a foreign object on James (Referee: James Beard)
LWF MAIN EVENT--LWF WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE NUMBER ONE CONTENDER MATCH “HOLLYWOOD” BARRY WINDHAM (low-b) (w/ Bobby “The Brain” Heenan) (low) beat STING (low-b) with the Sweetwater Superplex finisher (Referee: Dick Woherle) --World Champion Lou Thesz watched the match from ringside. After Windham’s win, Thesz got on the microphone. “Congratulations, Mr. Windham, you still have your match against me. But, I don’t expect the outcome to be any different than last time. Mr. Windham, the theme of the card may be Legends Gone Wild, but you need to prepare yourself for nothing less than another wrestling clinic. Leave the wildness to the other wrestlers. I will WRESTLE you, and I will win!”

Mosca was the first to bleed, opened up by Garvin’s fists. Garvin was the second out when he was lacerated by Rogers. It came down to Rogers and Gomez, and Gomez rammed Rogers headfirst into the ring post to draw blood and win the match.
FOUR-WAY CASKET ELIMINATION MATCH “HOMICIDAL, SUICIDAL, GENOCIDAL” SABU (low) (w/ “Grand Wizard” Abdullah Farouk) (low) beat BOB BACKLUND (low-b), SCOTT STEINER (low-b) and SAMU of the SAMOAN ISLAND TRIBE (low) to qualify for the Steel Cage Match (Referees: Scrappy McGowan, Dick Woherle) --Three caskets were placed around the ring, and, as each wrestler was put into one and the lid closed, they were wheeled away from ringside until only one wrestler was left. Samu was the first eliminated, slammed inside a casket by Steiner. Steiner was then closed inside a casket by Sabu. Backlund tried his best to wrestle Sabu into the last casket, but it was the Bombay Wildman who shut the lid on Backlund, earning a trip to the final cage match.
FOUR-WAY CHAIN ELIMINATION MATCH LWF National Heavyweight Champion “MODERN DAY WARRIOR” KERRY VON ERICH (low-b) beat FRANK GOTCH (low), “GORGEOUS” JIMMY GARVIN (w/ Precious) (low-b) and ALOFA of the SAMOAN ISLAND TRIBE (low) to qualify for the Steel Cage Match (Referees: Dave Hebner, Bronko Lubich) --All four men were connected with a four-way heavy-duty chain; elimination was by pinfall or submission. Von Erich flattened Alofa with the Discus Punch to get the first fall. Gotch made Garvin tap out to the Guillotine Choke, which was made more effective with the chain wrapped around Garvin’s neck as Precious screamed for her man. Von Erich and Gotch squared off, with Gotch trying to outwrestle the reigning National Champion, but Von Erich hit the Discus Punch to get his ticket punched for the cage match.
FOUR-WAY TABLES ELIMINATION MATCH “AMERICAN DREAM” DUSTY RHODES (low-b) beat STING (low), LWF World Cruiserweight Champion JUSHIN “THUNDER” LIGER (low) and “DOGFACED GREMLIN” RICK STEINER (low-b) to qualify for the Steel Cage Match (Referees: James Beard, Johnny “Red Shoes“ Dugan) --A wrestler is eliminated when he is put through a table. Rhodes hit Steiner with a Running Lariat to knock him off the ring apron and through a table on the floor for the first elimination. Sting eliminated Liger when, with Liger perched on the top rope, Sting used the ropes for leverage and hit a Rolling Koppo Kick, sending Liger crashing through a ringside table. With Sting and Rhodes left, both men battled until Rhodes smashed Sting through two tables stacked inside the ring to win.
STEEL CAGE MATCH “EIGHTH WONDER OF THE WORLD” ANDRE THE GIANT (low-b) beat “GIANT KILLER” AKIRA MAEDA (low-c) (w/ LWF Women’s World Champion “Sensational” Sherri Martel) (low) with the Big Splash finisher (Referee: Nick Patrick) --Martel was at ringside in the place of the suspended Jim Cornette, but she was ineffective as she tried to climb the cage and was pulled down by Ida Mae Martinez. With the referee distracted by the women fighting outside the cage, the Heavenly Bodies ran out and tried to climb the cage to attack Andre. Suddenly, though, out of the crowd came the Rock ‘N’ Roll Express, unseen in the LWF since Ricky Morton’s severe concussion weeks ago that resulted in the LWF stripping them of the National Tag Team Titles due to the 30-day rule. The Express and the Bodies brawled outside the cage as Andre massacred Maeda, virtually shredding him in the cage and splashing him for the pinfall. The Bodies had to carry Maeda to the back.
$100,000 STEEL CAGE ELIMINATION MATCH--WINNER GETS A WORLD TITLE SHOT PEPPER GOMEZ (low) beat KERRY VON ERICH (low-b), DUSTY RHODES (low-b) and SABU (low) to win the match, the money and the title shot (Referee: Mark Curtis) --Von Erich put Sabu away first, twisting him in the Abdominal Stretch and causing a tapout. Sabu was herded out of the cage, leaving three men. Von Erich and Rhodes took turns beating on Gomez until, with Gomez collapsed in the corner, the two men turned their attention towards each other, opening each other up on the sides of the cage until both men were covered in blood. Von Erich put the Iron Claw on Rhodes, who passed out from blood loss and has the 1-2-3 counted on him. As Von Erich almost apologetically helped get Rhodes out of the cage, Gomez snuck up behind him and slapped the Sleeperhold on him. Von Erich struggled but eventually passed out himself, giving the match and the winnings to Gomez.
LWF LEGENDS GONE WILD ’08 PPV MAIN EVENT-LWF WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH, BEST TWO OUT OF THREE FALLS Champion LOU THESZ (low-b) beat “HOLLYWOOD” BARRY WINDHAM (low-b) (w/ Bobby “The Brain” Heenan) (low) two falls to one to retain the belt (Referee: Earl Hebner) --Thesz took the first fall with the Thesz press finisher. After Thesz knocked Heenan from the ring apron, Windham came in over the top rope with a Sunset Flip and hooked Thesz’s shoulders with his ankles to tie up the match. Almost in keeping with the theme of the night, Thesz rammed Windham into the ring post, opening him up. Back in the ring, Thesz hit a dropkick, went for the cover, and, three seconds later, had his arm raised in victory to end the PPV.

ABC & The LWF Present WORLD CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING on ABC-TV (8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central Mondays, hosted by Gordon Solie & Jim Ross (hours 1 & 3), Mike Tenay & Larry Matysik (hour 2), Bill Apter, “Mean Gene” Okerlund & Gary Michael Cappetta)
Interviewer Bill Apter brought out last night’s Steel Cage Match winner, Pepper Gomez. Gomez said he felt fortunate that he came through the Battle Royal, the Last Blood Match and the Steel Cage finals relatively unscathed and was proud to be the new Number One Contender to Lou Thesz’s LWF World Heavyweight Title. This brought out Barry Windham and his manager, Bobby Heenan. Heenan told Gomez, “Not so fast, Pancho. You may have won a bunch of weird matches, but let’s not forget that my man here, ‘Hollywood’ Barry Windham, took Lou Thesz to the limit last night and should be the rightful World Heavyweight Champion. I say that Barry should get a title rematch before you get any kind of a title match.” LWF General Manager Bill Watts came out and said, “Heenan, I don’t doubt that Barry Windham is deserving of another title shot, but Pepper Gomez won that title shot, fair and square. Tell you what. If Mr. Gomez will agree to it, we can have a match tonight between Gomez and Windham, and the winner gets the next title shot at WrestleAmerica ‘08 on June 29 in Dallas. Pepper, what do you say?” Gomez took the mic and spoke Spanish until Heenan impatiently bellowed, “In English, Pedro, in English!” Gomez said, “What I just said, Bobby Heenan, is I accept the match, and I’ll win the match and then wrestle Lou Thesz for the title in Dallas.” Watts said, “Alright then, gentlemen, it’s official. It’s the main event tonight. Let’s HOOK ‘EM UP!”
FRANK GOTCH (low) beat “AMERICAN DREAM” DUSTY RHODES (low-b) by countout (Referee: Earl Hebner) --Rhodes was, apparently, still weakened from blood loss from last night’s Steel Cage Match. When he and Gotch collided in mid-ring, Rhodes fell out of the ring and to the floor, and he could not answer the 10-count. As Gotch celebrated his victory, National Champion Kerry Von Erich, who also lost a lot of blood last night in the cage, ran out to check on Rhodes. As Kerry stood over him and backed up to the ring apron, Gotch took a swipe at the back of Kerry’s head. Kerry quickly turned around and jumped in the ring, but Gotch quickly backed out between the ropes and walked backwards up the aisle, expressionless, as Von Erich tried to summon him back. (Von Erich had hit a bloody Gotch with his Discus Punch last night to win the Four-Way Chain Elimination Match for the right to go to the Steel Cage finals.)
“GORGEOUS” JIMMY GARVIN (w/ Precious) (low-b) beat “HOMICIDAL, SUICIDAL, GENOCIDAL” SABU (low) (w/ “Grand Wizard” Abdullah Farouk) (low) with the Brainbuster finisher (Referee: Tommy Young) --Farouk yelled at Young about a fast count and then screamed at Sabu after the match as Sabu staggered around the ring and pointed to the ceiling.
ROUGH & READY (w/ Boss Winters) (low-m) beat HEAVENLY BODIES (“Gangster Of Love” “Sweet” Stan Lane & “Doctor Of Desire” Tom Prichard) (low) (w/ LWF Women‘s World Champion “Sensational“ Sherri Martel) (low) by disqualfication (Referee: David Manning) --Martel was distracted, looking around the arena during the match for the Rock ‘N’ Roll Express, who returned to the LWF last night and kept the Bodies from attacking Andre The Giant in the Steel Cage during his match against Akira Maeda. In the ring, Prichard produced brass knucks and, apparently, didn’t care if the referee caught him or not as he nailed both Rough and Ready, and then he laid out Winters when he jumped on the ring apron.
“HANDS OF STONE” RONNIE GARVIN (low-b) beat GEORGE SOUTH (low) with the Hands Of Stone finisher (Referee: Gilberto Roman)
DEMOLITION (Ax & Smash) (low-b) (w/ “Captain“ Lou Albano) (low) beat SAMOAN ISLAND TRIBE (Alofa & Samu) (low) when Ax beat Samu with a Bodyslam (Referee: Scrappy McGowan) --Before the match, Albano got on the mic and gave Demolition an ultimatum: start winning and get another title shot, or he’ll find another team to manage. The painted duo took it out on the Samoans, virtually destroying them, including after the match, when they gave Alofa the Demolition Decapitation.
Gene Okerlund interviewed the Rock ‘N’ Roll Express via satellite from Memphis. Ricky Morton, speaking for partner Robert Gibson, said they had one thing in mind last night: revenge on Sherri Martel and the Heavenly Bodies. Morton called Martel “Jimmy Cornette with *bleeps* (a word rhyming with halls)” and said he and Gibson weren’t interested in titles right now. “What we want is the Heavenly Bodies in the ring, in a cage, in the streets, anywhere we can get them, and if that skank Sherri wants to get involved, well, I promised my Mama I’d never hit a lady. But, as far as I’m concerned, Sherri Martel ain’t no lady. Bring it on, *bleep* (a word rhyming with witch).”
“NATURE BOY” BUDDY ROGERS (low) beat BOB BACKLUND (low-b) by disqualification (Referee: Dick Woherle) --Remembering what Rogers did to him one week ago with the Figure-Four around the ringpost, a limping Backlund lost it, hitting Rogers with a steel chair in full view of the referee for the DQ (the chair having been brought in by Rogers in the first place). Backlund then tied up Rogers’ leg in the ropes, but, just as he was about to take out Rogers’ knee with the chair, Killer Kowalski, who hadn’t been on LWF TV since December 2005, charged the ring and chop-blocked Backlund in his injured leg. Kowalski hit Backlund in the knee with the chair and then put his patented Claw on Backlund’s kneecap as the referee summoned security to help him pull Kowalski off. Kowalski helped Rogers to the back, and they mocked Backlund as he was tended to.
After the commercial break,, Gene Okerlund pulled Kowalski and Rogers aside and asked them about what had just happened in the ring. Kowalski bellowed, “What happened? I’ll tell you what happened. Bob Backlund was about to commit a crime against an innocent man, Mr. Buddy Rogers, and I knew the so-called California police weren’t going to do anything, so I took it upon myself to make sure the law was enforced. Howdy Doody Face got what he deserved.” Rogers then said, “’Mean Gene,’ the Killer and I go way back. He picked the right night to come back to the LWF. And, now, we’re going to crush everyone in our path to the top of this company. INCLUDING Bob Backlund. Bobby boy, sorry about your knee. One piece of advice: Buy a walker, and learn how to use it. To a nicer guy, it couldn’t happen!”
NON-TITLE MATCH “DOGFACED GREMLIN” RICK & SCOTT STEINER (low-b) beat LWF National Tag Team Champions NEW AGE OUTLAWS (“Bad Ass” Billy Gunn & “Road Dogg” Jesse James) (low) when Rick beat James with the Steiner Dog finisher (Referee: Dave Hebner)
Before the main event, Solie and Ross announced that the New Age Outlaws had just signed to defend the National Tag Team belts against the Steiners next week on World Class Championship Wrestling in Oakland.
LWF MAIN EVENT--LWF WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE NUMBER ONE CONTENDER MATCH PEPPER GOMEZ (low) beat “HOLLYWOOD” BARRY WINDHAM (low-b) (w/ Bobby “The Brain” Heenan) (low) with the Mexican Leap to retain his shot at Lou Thesz’s World Heavyweight Title (Referee: Bronko Lubich)
Highlights will air, along with matches taped earlier in the night, Tuesday night at 10 p.m. Eastern/9 p.m. Central on LWF Prime Time Wrestling on ABC Family.

After the match, Killer Kowalski ran in and made it two-on-one on Gomez. Thesz stood up as if to help Gomez, but Bob Backlund hobbled to the ring, and Thesz sat back down. Backlund tried to help Gomez, but Kowalski and Rogers left them both laying, and Thesz only watched, telling Mike Tenay that “the numbers were equal, so there was no need for me to go in there.”

Gunn brought the chair into the ring, the referee yanked it away, and, moments later, Scott picked it up, but the ref pulled it away from him and tossed it aside. James picked it up and clobbered Rick just as the referee turned around, and the official called for the bell. As Scott tended to Rick and looked at the champions in disbelief, Gunn & James jumped out of the ring and just stared at the Steiners as the ref handed them their belts. The Outlaws held the belts up high as TV time expired.
