*****RESULTS*****
(Card source key: low=Filsinger’s Legends Of Wrestling; low-b=Legends Of Wrestling Bootlegs; low-c=Legends Of Wrestling Creations; low-m=Legends Of Wrestling Memphis Bootlegs)
DARK MATCH JIM LONDOS (low) beat DESTROYER (low) with a Headlock Throw (Referee: James Beard)
LWF PRIME TIME WRESTLING on ABC Family (10 p.m. Eastern/9 p.m. Central Tuesdays, with commentary by Mike Tenay & Larry Matysik and ring announcing by Gary Michael Cappetta)
(Matches to be aired on Tuesday, 7/29/08, along with highlights from tonight‘s World Class Championship Wrestling)
“DOGFACED GREMLIN” RICK & SCOTT STEINER (low-b) beat HEAVENLY BODIES (“Gangster Of Love” “Sweet” Stan Lane & “Doctor Of Desire” Tom Prichard) (low) (w/ LWF Women’s World Champion “Sensational” Sherri Martel) (low) by disqualification when Prichard was caught with a Foreign Object (Referee: Mark Curtis) --The Rock ‘N’ Roll Express came to ringside and distracted the Bodies. Suddenly, Morton tossed a set of brass knucks to Prichard, who instinctively caught them. Referee Curtis turned and saw the knucks in Prichard’s hand and called for the bell, leaving Martel and the Bodies livid as the Express laughed their way back up the aisle.
STING (low-b) beat DAN “The BEAST” SEVERN (low) (w/ LWF World Cruiserweight Champion Frank Gotch) (low) with the Scorpion Deathlock finisher (Referee: Scrappy McGowan) --As he did last week, Gotch, who was originally scheduled to face Sting, cited the contract clause which allowed him, as Cruiserweight Champion, to refuse matches against wrestlers outweighing him by 50 pounds or more and pick a suitable replacement. Like last week against Dusty Rhodes, though, Severn was beaten, this time being forced to tap out to Sting’s patented Scorpion Deathlock. And, once again, Gotch didn’t seem angry, instead relieved that he didn’t have to face a much larger opponent.
LWF PRIME TIME WRESTLING MAIN EVENT BRUNO SAMMARTINO (low-b) beat KILLER KOWALSKI (low) with the Backbreaker finisher (Referee: Earl Hebner)
ABC & The LWF Present WORLD CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING on ABC-TV (8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central Mondays, hosted by Gordon Solie & Jim Ross (hours 1 & 3), Mike Tenay & Larry Matysik (hour 2), Bill Apter, “Mean Gene” Okerlund & Gary Michael Cappetta)
EL GRAN GOLIATH & BLACK GORDMAN (low-b) beat ROCK ’N’ ROLL EXPRESS (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) (low-b) when Goliath beat Gibson after interference by the Heavenly Bodies (Referee: David Manning) --Gibson wore a patch over his left eye, and Goliath & Gordman focused their attack on it. Just as Gibson & Morton were starting to clean up on the duo, and Referee Manning was focused on Morton and Gordman, the Bodies came to the ring and double-teamed Gibson, hitting him in the eye with brass knucks and setting him up for an easy pinfall by Goliath.
“NATURE BOY” BUDDY ROGERS (low) beat “TOTAL PACKAGE” LEX LUGER (low-b) with the Figure Four Grapevine finisher (Referee: Dick Woherle) --Luger was screaming for Randy Savage and Oliver Humperdink to come out, but Rogers clipped him from behind and worked over his knee, wrapping it around the ringpost several times before putting his Grapevine hold on and forcing a submission. World Heavyweight Champion Lou Thesz joined Solie and Ross at ringside on commentary and touched on his non-title match coming up later against Savage, saying he didn’t appreciate the “Macho Man” interfering in his match with Luger last week. When this match was over, Rogers looked right at Thesz and made a challenge, to which Thesz replied, “Mr. Rogers will have to wait his turn. I’ve got Pepper Gomez in a rematch in just a few weeks at the Summertime Bruise Pay-Per-View, and then we will go on from there with potential challengers.”
The New Age Outlaws came out to the ring, with Jesse James handling the typical introduction: “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages. The LWF presents to you, the past and future LWF National Tag Team Champions of the Wooooorld … The ‘Bad Ass’ Billy Gunn, the ‘Road Dogg’ Jesse James, the NEW … AGE … OUTLAWS!” Gunn then added, “Now, last week, we put our National Tag Team Title belts up against Dory & Terry Funk, and they got lucky and beat us. The thing is, they couldn’t beat Demolition for the World Tag Team Titles, so they set their sights on us and thought they could use us as a stepping stone back to the World belts. Last week, they caught us just a little off guard and beat us for our belts. Well, me and the ‘Road Dogg’ aren’t gonna roll over and play dead. We went to (LWF General Manager) Cowboy Bill Watts and said we wanted to use the rematch clause in our contract right away, so, tonight, you will see us take our belts back from those two redneck West Texas cowboys. And, we are so confident that we’re gonna do it, the ‘Road Dogg’ and I are gonna put it all on the line here tonight. If we don’t win our titles back here tonight, we are gonna pack our bags and leave the LWF. That’s right. If we lose, you won’t see the New Age Outlaws around here anymore. BUT … if we DO win … not only will we be the National Tag Team Champions again … we want a shot at the World Tag Team Titles. Demolition, shine up those belts, because the ‘Bad Ass’ and the ‘Road Dogg’ are gonna be coming your way. And, for those Funk boys, we’ve got TWO WORDS for ya … SUCK IT!”
BOB BACKLUND (low-b) beat “PRETTY BOY” LARRY SHARPE (low) with a Piledriver (Referee: Bronko Lubich)
“HANDS OF STONE” RONNIE GARVIN (low-b) & YUKON ERIC (low) and MR. FUJI & “PROFESSOR” TORU TANAKA (low-b) went to a double disqualification when both teams brawled uncontrollably in and around the ring, with both teams decking the referee and several security people (Referee: Nick Patrick)
Bill Apter brought out LWF National Heavyweight Champion Kerry Von Erich, who thanked the fans for their support throughout his title reign, which has included losing and regaining the belt against such opponents at Jimmy Garvin, Angelo Mosca and Jacques Rougeau, all of whom have since left the LWF. He said he welcomed any and all challengers. This brought out Bob Backlund, who said, “Mr. Von Erich, you are an outstanding champion, but your opposition has been anything but top flight. What I mean to say is, in all humility, you haven’t defended against me yet. I admit that I am feeling a bit frustrated right now. I’m a former World Heavyweight Champion, but do I get title shots? No. I’ve been winning match after match, but do I get title shots? No. Instead, tonight, I was matched up against Larry Sharpe. Don’t get me wrong; he’s a capable professional wrestler, but championship caliber? Highly unlikely. Mr. Von Erich, all I am asking for is a shot. You need the competition, and I need a chance to wear a gold belt again. What do you say?” Von Erich thought about it for a few moments and then said, “I’ll tell you what, Bob, you make a lot of sense. You ARE a former World Champion, and you deserve a title shot. You’re one of the best technical wrestlers we have here in the LWF, and it would be an honor to defend this belt against you. Let’s do this next week, right here in this ring.” The two men shook hands before leaving.
“AMERICAN DREAM” DUSTY RHODES (low-b) beat RIKIDOZAN (low) with a Bionic Elbow (Referee: Johnny “Red Shoes“ Dugan)
“HOMICIDAL, SUICIDAL, GENOCIDAL” SABU (low) (w/ “Grand Wizard” Abdullah Farouk) (low) beat PEPPER GOMEZ (low) with a Cross-Body Block (Referee: Dave Hebner) --Sabu, through manager Farouk, laid claim to the World Heavyweight Title Number One Contendership by beating current Number One Contender Gomez. In fact, after the next commercial break, Bill Watts announced that Gomez and Sabu will meet again next week with the title shot at Lou Thesz at the Summertime Bruise PPV at stake.
LWF NATIONAL TAG TEAM TITLE REMATCH Champions DORY & TERRY FUNK (low-b) beat NEW AGE OUTLAWS (“Bad Ass” Billy Gunn & “Road Dogg” Jesse James) (low) when Terry beat James with a Piledriver to retain the belts (Referee: Gilberto Roman) --As the Funks celebrated and left the ring, Gunn and James stood in the ring, stunned, realizing that they would have to live up to what Gunn had said earlier in their promo about leaving the LWF if they lost. They slowly looked around the arena before hugging and quietly leaving the LWF ring for the last time.
LWF MAIN EVENT--NON-TITLE MATCH LWF World Heavyweight Champion LOU THESZ (low-b) beat “MACHO MAN” RANDY SAVAGE (w/ Miss Elizabeth) (low-b) (w/ “Sir” Oliver Humperdink) (low) with the Thesz Press finisher (Referee: Tommy Young) --While Humperdink was up on the ring apron, distracting Thesz and Referee Young, Lex Luger limped to ringside, got in and hoisted Savage up in his Human Torture Rack finisher as Elizabeth screamed, dropping him before leaving the ring and a highly agitated Humperdink got Young to turn around. As Savage struggled to regain his feet, Thesz hit his press on him and scored the 1-2-3.
Highlights will air, along with matches taped earlier in the night, Tuesday night at 10 p.m. Eastern/9 p.m. Central on LWF Prime Time Wrestling on ABC Family.
