LWF WORLD CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING & PRIME TIME WRESTLING THOMPSON-BOLING ARENA, KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE MONDAY, AUGUST 4, 2008
*****RESULTS*****
(Card source key: low=Filsinger’s Legends Of Wrestling; low-b=Legends Of Wrestling Bootlegs; low-c=Legends Of Wrestling Creations; low-m=Legends Of Wrestling Memphis Bootlegs)
DARK MATCH JIM LONDOS (low) beat DESTROYER (low) with the Boston Crab finisher (Referee: Dave Hebner)
LWF PRIME TIME WRESTLING on ABC Family (10 p.m. Eastern/9 p.m. Central Tuesdays, with commentary by Mike Tenay & Larry Matysik and ring announcing by Gary Michael Cappetta)
(Matches to be aired on Tuesday, 8/5/08, along with highlights from tonight‘s World Class Championship Wrestling)
“AMERICAN DREAM” DUSTY RHODES (low-b) beat LWF National Tag Team Title Co-Holder TERRY FUNK (low-b) with the Bionic Elbow (Referee: David Manning)
LWF World Cruiserweight Champion FRANK GOTCH (low) beat RIKIDOZAN (low) with the Gotch Toe Hold finisher (Referee: Nick Patrick) --Gotch came out with Dan Severn and a set of scales. When Rikidozan weighed in well under the 50-pound weight differential stipulated in Gotch’s contract, the Cruiserweight Champion sent Severn to the back. Gotch handled the former World Heavyweight Champion with surprising ease, forcing a quick tapout with his patented Toe Hold.
LWF PRIME TIME WRESTLING MAIN EVENT--FOUR CORNERS MATCH BLACK GORDMAN (low-b) beat “DOCTOR OF DESIRE” TOM PRICHARD of the HEAVENLY BODIES (low) (w/ LWF Women’s World Champion “Sensational” Sherri Martel) (low), RICKY MORTON of the ROCK ’N’ ROLL EXPRESS (low-b) and SCOTT STEINER (low-b) when Gordman beat Prichard after whipping him into Martel and giving him the Diamond Twist finisher (Referee: Johnny “Red Shoes“ Dugan) --In this match, two wrestlers fought in the ring with the other two in opposite corners, and anyone cold tag out to anyone. Prichard took the brunt of the punishment from the other three, ending up with Gordman getting the win. A shoving match between Prichard and Gordman ensued after the bell, and partners Stan Lane and Goliath came out to separate the two, only to start jawing at each other as well.
ABC & The LWF Present WORLD CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING on ABC-TV (8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central Mondays, hosted by Gordon Solie & Jim Ross (hours 1 & 3), Mike Tenay & Larry Matysik (hour 2), Bill Apter, “Mean Gene” Okerlund & Gary Michael Cappetta)
Bill Apter brought out Captain Lou Albano and his LWF World Tag Team Champions, Demolition. Albano said, “Things are pretty easy right now for my tag team champions. The Funk Brothers are out of our hair as long as they have to defend those National Tag Team belts. The New Age Outlaws are gone. The Rock ‘N’ Roll Express and the Heavenly Bodies are trying to kill each other. The Steiners have their own thing going on with Goliath & Gordman, and Fuji & Tanaka are having heir own problems. I don’t think my boys will have any problem holding onto their belts for a long…”
Suddenly … a sliding heavy metal guitar chord is heard … and a gravelly voice is heard to say…
“I … AM … IRON … MAN…”
From underneath the LegendsVision © screen walked PRECIOUS PAUL ELLERING, followed closely by ANIMAL & HAWK, the ROAD WARRIORS! Jim Ross noted that they hadn’t been seen in the LWF in two-and-a-half years. As the three men entered the ring, Albano ordered Ax & Smash to stay back. Ellering spoke first. “Well, well, well, if it isn’t the good Captain and his painted soldiers. I know you know who we are, so let’s skip the formalities. For the last two-and-a-half years, the Legion of Doom has been on the sidelines, watching what’s been going on, and what we’ve seen doesn’t make us happy. We see a couple of WANNABE’S … that’s right, I said it … wannabe’s who’ve made it to the top of the tag team ranks in the greatest promotion this great sport has ever seen. And, we see them being led by a man who, to paraphrase the late Will Rogers, never met a buffet he didn’t like. The only reason you’re at the top of the mountain, gentlemen, is because … you haven’t faced US yet. Tell ‘em, Animal.” Animal took over. “It all comes down to this. The Legion of Doom is back in town, back in the LWF, and we want one thing, and one thing only. That’s the World Tag Team Titles. And, whatever we want, we get it. Tell ‘em, Hawk!” Hawk spoke. “WELLLLL …we’re here for one other thing, besides those Tag Team Titles. We’re here to demolish Demolition. It’s that simple. Ax, we’re gonna chop you up; Smash, we’re gonna smash you; and Captain Lou, Precious Paul here is gonna sink your Battleship. And, we’re gonna do it at Summertime Bruise.” Ellering jumped back in. “You see, gentlemen, it’s not nice to fool with the Legion of Doom. HA HA HA HA HA!” Animal added, “We snack on danger, we dine on death, and dead men don’t make money!” Hawk finished with, “EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, WHAT A RUSHHHHH!” Albano herded his men out of the ring and up the aisle before there could be any trouble.
HANDICAP MATCH The LEGION OF DOOM, The ROAD WARRIORS (Animal & Hawk) (low) (w/ “Precious” Paul Ellering) (low) beat ROUGH & READY (w/ Boss Winters) (low-m), “PRETTY BOY” LARRY SHARPE (low) & GEORGE SOUTH (low) when Animal beat Ready with a Spike Piledriver (Referee: Dick Woherle) --Animal and Hawk smashed their way through all four men in near-record time, stacking them like cord wood with Ready on the bottom for the 1-2-3. Winters got up on the apron to complain, but Ellering threw him into the ring, where he was on the receiving end of the Warriors’ patented Doomsday Device. Albano and Demolition watched it all from the aisle as Ellering pointed at Winters and then at Albano while the refrain of “Iron Man“ played once again.
“NATURE BOY” BUDDY ROGERS (low) beat LWF National Tag Team Title Co-Holder DORY FUNK JR. (low-b) with the Figure Four Grapevine finisher (Referee: Mark Curtis)
DAN “The BEAST” SEVERN (low) (substituting for LWF World Cruiserweight Champion FRANK GOTCH [low]) beat BRUNO SAMMARTINO (low-b) by countout (Referee: Gilberto Roman)
TEXAS TORNADO MATCH--ALL FOUR MEN IN THE RING AT ONCE “HANDS OF STONE” RONNIE GARVIN (low-b) & YUKON ERIC (low) beat MR. FUJI & “PROFESSOR” TORU TANAKA (low-b) when Garvin beat Tanaka with the Hands Of Stone finisher (Referee: Earl Hebner)
STING (low-b) beat “MACHO MAN” RANDY SAVAGE (w/ Miss Elizabeth) (low-b) (& “Sir” Oliver Humperdink) (low) with the Scorpion Deathlock finisher (Referee: Tommy Young)
NUMBER ONE CONTENDER MATCH PEPPER GOMEZ (low) beat “HOMICIDAL, SUICIDAL, GENOCIDAL” SABU (low) (w/ “Grand Wizard” Abdullah Farouk) (low) by disqualification when Sabu used a chair for the Arabian Facebuster (Referee: Scrappy McGowan)
“DOGFACED GREMLIN” RICK & SCOTT STEINER (low-b) beat EL GRAN GOLIATH & BLACK GORDMAN (low-b) when Rick beat Goliath with the Steiner Dog finisher (Referee: Bronko Lubich)
LWF MAIN EVENT--LWF NATIONAL HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH Champion “MODERN DAY WARRIOR” KERRY VON ERICH (low-b) beat BOB BACKLUND (low-b) with the Discus Punch finisher to retain the belt (Referee: James Beard)

HARDCORE MATCH PEPPER GOMEZ (low) beat “HOMICIDAL, SUICIDAL, GENOCIDAL” SABU (low) (w/ “Grand Wizard” Abdullah Farouk) (low) with the Mexican Cradle finisher (Referee: Scrappy McGowan) --Ross said that LWF World Heavyweight Champion Lou Thesz was invited to do guest commentary, since his Number One Contender, Gomez, was involved in this match, but Thesz turned them down, saying that, quote, “I don’t think it’s a good idea for someone involved in a World Title match just one week away to participate in such a meaningless, risky match.” After the match, though, Thesz came out and went to shake Gomez’s hand, but, instead, he slapped the Mexican Legend. Thesz then chewed him out for accepting a Hardcore match, saying it’s demeaning to the sport of professional wrestling. “If you don’t care about your own well-being, why should I? When I beat you this Sunday at Summertime Bruise, just remember, it’s your own fault!”

*****RESULTS*****
(Card source key: low=Filsinger’s Legends Of Wrestling; low-b=Legends Of Wrestling Bootlegs; low-c=Legends Of Wrestling Creations; low-m=Legends Of Wrestling Memphis Bootlegs)
FREE PRE-PPV MATCH “DOGFACED GREMLIN” RICK & SCOTT STEINER (low-b) beat EL GRAN GOLIATH & BLACK GORDMAN (low-b) when Scott beat Goliath after Goliath missed a falling knee drop (Referee: Johnny “Red Shoes“ Dugan)

LWF WORLD CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE MATCH Champion FRANK GOTCH (low) beat “GOLDEN GREEK” JIM LONDOS (low) by countout (Referee: Earl Hebner)
“AMERICAN DREAM” DUSTY RHODES (low-b) beat RIKIDOZAN (low) with a Sunset Flip (Referee: Scrappy McGowan)
Ronnie Garvin came out alone for the next match without his scheduled partner, Yukon Eric. After the LWF National Tag Team Champions, Dory & Terry Funk came out, Terry asked Garvin if his partner turned chicken. Garvin said that Eric was injured during training in the Alaska wilderness earlier in the week, and LWF General Manager Bill Watts gave him permission to pick a new partner for this match. Garvin then introduced his partner … Bruno Sammartino!
LWF NATIONAL TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH “HANDS OF STONE” RONNIE GARVIN (low-b) & BRUNO SAMMARTINO (low-b) beat Champions DORY & TERRY FUNK (low-b) when Sammartino beat Terry with the Bear Hug finisher to win the belts (Referee: Bronko Lubich)
GRUDGE MATCH “TOTAL PACKAGE” LEX LUGER (low-b) beat “MACHO MAN” RANDY SAVAGE (w/ Miss Elizabeth) (low-b) (w/ “Sir” Oliver Humperdink) (low) with the Human Torture Rack finisher (Referee: Mark Curtis)
LWF WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH, BEST TWO OUT OF THREE FALLS “LEGION OF DOOM” ROAD WARRIORS (Animal & Hawk) (low) (w/ “Precious“ Paul Ellering) (low) beat Champions DEMOLITION (Ax & Smash) (low-b) (w/ “Captain” Lou Albano) (low) two falls to one, with Hawk beating Smash with the Doomsday Device finisher to win the belts (Referee: Gilberto Roman) --This was a four-way bloodbath, with front row patrons being splattered with crimson on every high-impact move and the mat turned nearly completely red. The L.O.D. won the first fall by disqualification when Ax nearly took Referee Roman’s head off with a vicious clothesline. Senior official Johnny Dugan ran out to take over for the second fall as Roman was carted off. The champions took Fall Number Two after a double-team Demolition Beatdown on Animal. Animal seemed ripe for the pickings for the third fall, but he tagged Hawk in, and all hell broke loose. Albano climbed onto the ring apron, but Ellering yanked him to the floor and decked him. With Ax chasing Ellering off and tending to his manager, Animal found the strength to hoist Smash onto his shoulders, and Hawk came off the top turnbuckle with the flying clothesline for the Roadies’ finisher and put Smash down for the 1-2-3 as the rabid Indianapolis crowd exploded in cheers for the new champions.
To give the ring crew time to remove the blood-soaked mat and replace it with a clean one, video was shown of LWF Legends visiting a local children’s hospital. World Champion Lou Thesz, Pepper Gomez, Kerry Von Erich, Sting, the Rock ‘N’ Roll Express and Bruno Sammartino were seen interacting with the children one-on-one, bringing smiles to their faces as they posed for pictures and signed autographs. Sammartino said, “We may have our differences in the ring, but, doggone it, I think we all realize what’s really important, and that’s these children. It’s up to us to set an example for these youngsters and encourage them to have the strength and courage to overcome their obstacles and lead us all into the future.”
“NATURE BOY” BUDDY ROGERS (low) beat STING (low-b) by disqualification when Sting wouldn’t stop swinging a chair at Rogers, or at Killer Kowalski, who ran out to try to help Rogers (Referee: David Manning)
LWF NATIONAL HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH Champion “MODERN DAY WARRIOR” KERRY VON ERICH (low-b) beat KILLER KOWALSKI (low) with a rollup after Kowalski ran into the turnbuckle to retain the belt (Referee: Nick Patrick) --The incident with Sting and the chair seemed to throw Kowalski off his game, as he couldn’t really get untracked against Von Erich, who put him away with relative ease.
SCAFFOLD MATCH ROCK ’N’ ROLL EXPRESS (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) (low-b) beat HEAVENLY BODIES (“Gangster Of Love“ “Sweet“ Stan Lane & “Doctor Of Desire“ Tom Prichard) (low) (w/ LWF Women’s World Champion “Sensational” Sherri Martel) (low) because Prichard, and then Lane, fell off the scaffold to the mat below (Referee: James Beard) --For some reason, Martel climbed up the scaffold to try to get her licks in on the Express, including the still-eye-patched Gibson, but Ricky & Robert grabbed her, looked down at their opponents 15 feet below, and threw Martel off the scaffold. Fortunately, she landed in the arms of her men, but the force made their knees buckle and necessitated EMT’s to help them hobble out of the arena.
LWF SUMMERTIME BRUISE ‘08 MAIN EVENT--LWF WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH, TWO OUT OF THREE FALLS PEPPER GOMEZ (low) beat Champion LOU THESZ (low-b) two falls to one, winning the third fall with the Mexican Cradle finisher to win the belt (Referee: Dave Hebner) --Thesz took the first fall with his Greco-Roman Backdrop finisher. He was about to use it again when Gomez pulled out his patented Cradle to even things up. As the third fall started, Thesz charged at Gomez, who sidestepped him, and Thesz hit the ring post headfirst, opening a wide gash. Gomez took advantage to maneuver him into the Cradle again and score the win to regain the title. Thesz shook his hand before going to the back and leaving Gomez to celebrate with his fans.

“INTELLIGENT SENSATIONAL” DESTROYER (low) beat GEORGE SOUTH (low) with a Sensational Suplex (Referee: Johnny “Red Shoes“ Dugan)
DAN “The BEAST” SEVERN (low) (w/ LWF World Cruiserweight Champion Frank Gotch) (low) beat BOB BACKLUND (low-b) by disqualification (Referee: David Manning)
LWF PRIME TIME WRESTLING MAIN EVENT KILLER KOWALSKI (low) beat STING (low-b) after Sting ran into the turnbuckle (Referee: Gilberto Roman)
ABC & The LWF Present WORLD CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING on ABC-TV (8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central Mondays, hosted by Gordon Solie & Jim Ross (hours 1 & 3), Mike Tenay & Larry Matysik (hour 2), Bill Apter, “Mean Gene” Okerlund & Gary Michael Cappetta)
At the beginning of TV, Bill Apter introduced the new World Heavyweight Champion, Pepper Gomez, who thanked the fans for their support and said that “Lou Thesz has already exercised the rematch clause in his contract, so he’ll get the rematch he deserves, and that’ll be in three weeks at the Hard Labor Pay-Per-View. But, Bill Watts in the LWF office says that’ll be the last one, the last title match between me and Lou. I’m kinda sorry to hear that, because Lou puts up a good fight, and I love a good fight. He’ll be ready for me, and he knows that I’ll be ready for him. At Hard Labor, it’s gonna be one great match!”
“GOLDEN GREEK” JIM LONDOS (low) beat “PRETTY BOY” LARRY SHARPE (low) with the Airplane Spin finisher (Referee: Tommy Young)
ROCK ’N’ ROLL EXPRESS (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) (low-b) beat MR. FUJI & “PROFESSOR” TORU TANAKA (low-b) by disqualification when Fuji threw salt into Morton’s eyes in front of the referee (Referee: Scrappy McGowan) --After the bell, Morton was swinging blindly and wildly. Gibson tried to calm him down, but Morton decked him. Gibson got up and yelled, “RICKY! STOP! IT’S ME! IT’S ME!” Morton finally stopped upon hearing his partner’s voice, and Referee McGowan got a bottle of water from Jim Ross and rinsed out Morton’s eyes.
Gene Okerlund introduced the new World Tag Team Champions, the Road Warriors, and their manager, Paul Ellering, to a thunderous ovation from the hometown Chicago fans. Ellering gave credit to Demolition for hanging with them through all the bloodshed, but, “in the end, the Legion Of Doom proved to be the superior team, with superior power, superior conditioning, and, dare I say it, superior management. This is only the beginning of a long…” Before he could continue, he was interrupted by Lou Albano and Demolition. Like Animal and Hawk, both Ax and Smash had large bandages on their heads, covering the gashes they all opened on one another last night. Albano barked, “Paul Ellering, you won’t get far with those title belts because they belong to US, and if you want proof, go back to last night’s match. The first fall ended in a disqualification. By all rights, the title part of the match should have ended right there!” Ellering shot back, “But it DIDN’T, did it? Re-read the amended bylaws of the Legends Wrestling Federation, and you will see that this Federation did away with that particular rule long ago. Don’t get me wrong, Lou, the Legion Of Doom doesn’t need to win titles by disqualification. Your boys put up a hell of a fight, but you can see the final result standing before you. Hawk and Animal have the belts, you have a severely wounded pride, and I know the next thing you’re going to say is, ‘you want a rematch.’ Gentlemen, you shall have your rematch, and Bill Watts has already indicated that that rematch will take place in three weeks at Hard Labor. That’s an appropriate name, isn’t it? After all, it’s going to take a LOT of work to pry these belts off of my men. And, as I’m sure you learned last night, it’s not nice to fool with the Legion Of Doom!” Hawk got the last word in with “WHOOOOAAAAAHHHHHH … WHAT A RUSHHHHH!”
TERRY FUNK (low-b) beat “HOMICIDAL, SUICIDAL, GENOCIDAL” SABU (low) (w/ “Grand Wizard Abdullah Farouk) (low) with the Spinning Toe Hold finisher (Referee: Dave Hebner)
“TOTAL PACKAGE” LEX LUGER (low-b) beat RIKIDOZAN (low) with the Human Torture Rack finisher (Referee: Earl Hebner) --After the match, Sir Oliver Humperdink and a masked man ran to the ring, and the masked man, identified by Mike Tenay as the Destroyer, attacked Luger, putting him in the Figure-Four Leglock, with Humperdink doing splashes onto the two men’s legs. Rikidozan stood at ringside for a few moments before climbing back in and tossing Humperdink aside and then pulling Destroyer off of Luger, who was clearly in pain. Destroyer and Humperdink bailed out, and Rikidozan had a brief staredown with Destroyer before helping tend to Luger.
After the commercial break, Okerlund was backstage with Humperdink and Destroyer. Humperdink said Lex Luger “got what he deserved after what he did to Randy Savage last night at Summertime Bruise. I put in a call this morning to the one man I thought would be able to get the job done against that muscle head. All I had to do was put enough zeroes on the check, and you see the man standing before you. No man is more intelligent, no man is more sensational than the one, the only, the Destroyer!” The masked man spoke. “Sir Oliver tells no lies, Mean Gene. I AM the most intelligent and sensational wrestler to ever set foot in the squared circle, and I’m here for the payday. I’m here to help Sir Oliver rid the sport of that lowlife Lex Luger. I could have done it tonight, except for the interference of one Rikidozan. We’ve crossed paths in Japan, and, to be honest, I never knew him to stick his nose where it didn’t belong. Rikidozan, you listen and listen good.” He then spoke fluent Japanese, aimed at Rikidozan, and finished by saying, “Okerlund, I’m not going to waste my breath translating for you.
