Some exceptional matchups lined up for The Return... And I like your explanation re. different levels of rule enforcement... Fun times ahead! Trying something different with the rules. Mainly to mirror current indy style but also to forward some potential storylines I have in mind.

The Return Winchester Music Tavern Lakewood, OH January 14, 2022Commentary: Joe Dombrowski
Ring Announcer: Larry Legend
Referees: Jake Clemons, Kris Levin
All matches contested under Level 1 Rules (strict).
The standing room only crowd is packed into the tight, dim confines of The Winchester Music Tavern, buzzing with anticipation. The always dapper Larry Legend comes out and climbs into the ring. A murmur of âLarry, Larry, Larryâ fills the tiny venue.
Larry: âGood evening wrestling fans!! To all of you here live and everyone watching at home - welcome to Pro Wrestling Independent Spirit! The Return!! We have an exciting night of action planned for you, so letâs get it started!â
Madman Fulton vs. PB Smooth
Joe: âHello, everyone. Joe Dombrowski here calling the play-by-play. We start the night out with a veritable clash of titans. AIW star Pretty Boy Smooth to take on the intimidating Madman Fulton. Both men are over six and half feet tall. I donât know if the room is big enough for the two of them.â
The match immediately goes to the floor with Smooth bashing Fulton into the barricade. Back in the ring, Smooth hoists the bleary Fulton up for his Call the Coroner sit-out chokeslam. The referee counts two and Fulton kicks out. Smooth stays on top of Fulton and goes for another pin after a Concrete Kick. Kick out at one. Smooth climbs to the top turnbuckle for a huge cross body and a two count. The fight goes out to the floor for more brawling. After Smooth gets his face slammed into the wall, the referee calls for the bell, determining this contest to be out of control.
No contest
Joe: âA wild brawl to start things out and we see that the official adhered to the Level 1 rules classification.â
Tony Deppen vs. Wes Barkley
Joe: âBarkley, another local talent, set to do battle with the always game, and sometimes obnoxious, Deppen." Deppen comes out with a lot of aggression and quickly pins Barkley after a springboard Codebreaker.
Winner: Tony Deppen
Jordan Oliver vs. Louis Lyndon
Joe: âThe veteran AIW mainstay, Lyndon, to take on the rising star, Jordan Oliver.â
The match starts with a fast-paced exchange of strikes and counters. Oliver gets some momentum and works a Boston Crab. Lyndon makes a big comeback and gives Jordan no space to breathe. Lyndon applies a Dragon Sleeper and Oliver struggles to escape. Lyndon tightens his grip and Oliver succumbs as his arm drops when checked by the referee.
Winner: Louis Lyndon
Larry: âAll right ladies and gentlemen, letâs keep the ball rolling here.â
Infinity & Beyond, the AIW team of Cheech and Colin Delany, come out and immediately start goading the crowd. Soon after, Shane Mercer and KTB - Ironbeast, make their entrance. As the impressive duo enter the ring, the crowd heckles Colin and Cheech. âTheyâre gonna kill you! Theyâre gonna kill you!â The cocky pair shake their heads and rebuff the fans. As Ironbeast shed their ring gear, To Infinity & Beyond attack!
Ironbeast vs To Infinity & Beyond
The referee gains control in short order, leaving Mercer at a disadvantage against Delany. Shane takes some punishment but is able to make the tag to KTB, who enters with a rolling shoulder thrust, knocking the wind out of Delany. An assisted suplex powerbomb by Ironbeast has Colin in trouble. Second rope walk DVD by KTB has the crowd rocking. Mercer tags back in and Ironbeast combine for a Deadlift Powerbomb & Bridging Suplex combo. Colin lands near the ropes and quickly gets a rope break. Mercer is man-handling Delany who is desperately trying to tag out. Delany slips behind a suplex attempt and hits a cross body block, then rolls to his corner to tag in his partner. Cheech tries a shoulder tackle on Mercer. Mistake. A staggered Cheech finds himself on the receiving end of a discus lariat that just about knocks him out of his boots. KTB tags in. Cheech wants no part of him and tags in a reluctant Delany. Colin throws a dropkick that KTB brushes aside. KTB throws a diving reverse headbutt that Delany frantically avoids. Colin unsuccessfully tries to get KTBâs shoulders to the mat. Mercer is back in. Gif Plex & Powerbomb by Ironbeast. Delany is getting mauled! Colin desperately reverses and hits a Lungblower. He goes for the cover but Mercer kicks out at one. Cheech tags in. Go 2 Cheech for a two count. Mercer looks like heâs wearing down but is able to make a hot tag to KTB. Some back and forth failed attempts at offense before KTB gets his own taste of Go 2 Cheech. Busaiku Knee Kick by Cheech. Shooting star press. KTB keeps kicking out. Cheech is rolling but gets caught by an assisted suplex powerbomb as Mercer intervenes. Deadlift Powerbomb & Bridging Suplex again by Ironbeast. Delany comes in for the save and mayhem erupts with the ref having to clear the ring. Despite frequent tags by Iron Beast, Cheech is wearing them out. He starts racking up pin attempts against Mercer then tags Colin back in. Mercer wonât stay down and maybe uses his final reserves with a military press slam before he tags out. KTB doesnât fare a whole lot better as To Infinity & Beyond are outlasting their opponents. Delany hits KTB with a final lariat and cover for the pin.
Winners: To Infinity & Beyond
Joe: âAn absolute war. You have to give it up for both teams.â
Joshua Bishop vs. Lee Moriarty
Joe: âBishop is one of the top names in the AIW promotion and I want to take this opportunity to thank AIW for their contributions to the show tonight and we here at PWIS are grateful for our renewed relationship with one of the best promotions in independent wrestling.â
Bishop and Moriarty have (seemingly friendly) words before they lock up. Moriarty tries to use his agility to get the early advantage but Bishop goes hoss on him with pounding offense. Lee switches to technical gear and has more success. The two alternate in a big man - small man contest with Moriartyâs technique matched by Bishopâs power game. Josh tosses Moriarty to the floor and in a very bully-like fashion, stomps him down every time he tries getting back in the ring. Finally, Lee grabs Bishopâs foot and pulls him out to the floor and slams his arm into the post. As Bishop climbs back between the ropes, Moriarty pounces, wrapping him up in a Mousetrap Pin for the three count. Bishop is none too happy about the result and turns his back on Moriarty when offers to shake his hand.
Winner: Lee Moriarty
The boos begin the instant Larry announces the entrance of âThe Masterpieceâ Chris Masters. The arrogant Masters sneers at the fans and flexes as he stands at the barricade, letting those in attendance know that he thinks very little of them. Once in the ring, Masters gives Larry a look that lets the announcer know that he should surrender the mic.
âI really donât know what Iâm doing here in thisâŚdive, but theyâre paying me, so all of you get graced by my presence.â The heckling continues, Masters taking it in. âI see a lot of tough guys out there. Does one of you want to show me and everyone else just how tough you are?â
The crowd gets fired up and Masters chuckles.
âWell, I think you all know what itâs time forâŚâ He pauses for effect. âItâs time for a Masterlock Challenge.â
The fans are raucous.
âAll right, who thinks theyâre man enough to break my Masterlock?â
There are a few takers in the crowd and Masters amps them up, teasing that he might pick them. This goes on for a few minutes until a diminutive man waddles out and climbs into the ring.
Joe: âThatâs⌠thatâs Swoggle!â
Masters doesnât notice at first but the crowd directs his attention to the little man in the ring. Masters turns and looks in Swoggleâs direction, not completely comprehending. Swoggle just waves at him. Incredulous, Masters looks around. âThis is a joke, right?â
Chris focuses and gets in the ring, looking contemptuously at the interloper. âYou canât be serious. Are you trying to tell me that youâre out here wasting my time and interrupting me. You to take the Masterlock Challenge?â
Swoggle just looks to the crowd who cheer and start chanting his name. Masters is now getting angry that attention is being taken off of him.
âAlright. Someone get him a chair to stand on. Letâs go!â
A chair gets passed up through the crowd and is placed in the center of the ring. Swoggle just stands there and Chris is getting impatient.
âLetâs go! Get up there!â Chris indicates the chair. Swoggle looks at the chair curiously but doesnât say anything. Masters grabs him by the scruff of the neck and forces him closer to the chair. âGet⌠up⌠there.â
Swoggle looks a little frightened but complies. Masters hands the mic back to Larry and starts stretching and pumping up, getting ready to apply his Masterlock. Swoggle looks nervous and waves to get Larryâs attention urging him closer. Larry holds the mic to let Swoggle speak into it.
âIâm not here to do the Masterlock Challenge,â Swoggle states. Masters looks confused and perturbed. Swoggle gives a devilish grin. â...he is.â
Swoggle looks to the curtain and the hulking form of Calvin Tankman bursts through. The crowd goes haywire and Tankman is pumped up. Masters looks panicked and Swoggle is laughing. Tankman makes the rounds then gets in the ring. Masters immediately bails. Calvin motions for Chris to get back in the ring and says that heâs ready. Masters grimaces and shakes his head. The crowd eggs him on but he continues to reject the prospect of Tankman doing the Challenge. Calvin speaks: âYou too scared? Thatâs cool. Are you at least man enough to get in here and wrestle me?â
The indignant Masters feigns outrage at his manhood being called into question and, after some more goading from the crowd, cautiously climbs back into the ring.
Chris Masters vs. Calvin Tankman
At the lock up, Masters tries for a side headlock but Tankman shoots him off and delivers a massive shoulder block off the ropes, knocking Chris out of the ring. Calvin lights up Masters with some huge chops and and goes for a suicide dive but Chris clobbers him before he takes flight. Impressive scoop powerslam on the big man by Masters. Heavy dropkick by Tankman knocks the wind out of âThe Masterpieceâ. Running shooting star press followed by a GF Driver puts Masters down for a two count. Tankman Driver and it was âthat closeâ for Masters. Second Tankman Driver. Kick out! Chris leaves the ring but Tankman levels him with a pair of suicide dives. Back in the ring, GF Driver but Mastersâ foot is on the ropes. Tankman is getting frustrated. Running shooting star again, Tankman Driver, another kickout. Masters is resilient. Spine buster and Hidden Blade by Tankman. 1, 2, 3. Calvin gets pumps up, hops down to the floor, shaking his braids in front of the cheering crowd.
Winner: Calvin Tankman
Joe: âWow. I have to say - what a great night of wrestling. Thank you for joining us for the return of PWIS. Now letâs go back to Larry in the ring for an announcement about our next show.â
Larry: âThank you Winchester Music Tavern and all of you fans who came out tonight. In two weeks, Pro Wrestling Independent Spirit returns toâŚâ
There is a growing commotion in the building that interrupts Larry. Someone is coming through the crowd. A figure with bandannas concealing his face and head jumps the barricade. The tension builds as some in the audience wonder what is going on, while others have a good idea who it is. The man stalks back and forth in front of the crowd, stopping at points to hype up the fans and glare up at the ring at a befuddled Larry. He climbs between the ropes and pauses, letting the anticipation build. He reaches into his clothes and withdraws an object, thrusting it overhead. A pizza cutter! The crowd pops. He pulls down the bandanna covering his face.
Joe: âThatâs Nick Gage!!â
The frenzy increases as he paces the ring, nodding and mean-mugging. He turns and brandishes the pizza cutter in Larryâs direction. Larry drops the mic and scrambles out of the ring. Gage glares after Larry as he retreats, then bends over to pick up the mic. The noise is big from such a small crowd.
âShut the f**k up.â
The fans revel in the abuse.
âYou think you were gonna have this s**t without The King?! I donât think so.â
Gage lets the fans cheer as he stomps back and forth.
âPeople tell me this company used to be a big deal. Well, I was never here, so who gives a s**t? I guess there was a PWIS-PA. A PWIS-LV. Well, that s**tâs f**king gone. From now on, this is PWIS-MDK!! And Iâd like to see you motherf**kers try and stop me! Murder - Death - Kill forever!!â
Gage revs up the crowd some more as the stream ends with the chanting of âNick fân Gage! Nick fân Gage! Nick fân Gage!!â
