Year 2 - Card #8 (#27)

1)Roderick Strong defeated Frightmare with the STRONG HOLD @ 8:25.

Strong with a very technical dismantling of the young masked man. Numerous high impact moves on the back and then got the tap out with his finisher.

2) Matt Taven (w/Truth Martini & The Hoopla Hotties) beat Cedric Alexander with THE CLIMAX @ 7:25.

Too many distractions for Cedric to overcome. Taven hit a vicious neckbreaker and then slammed the Headlock driver on for the win.

3)Bruderschaft des Kreuzes (Ares & Tursas) defeated Delirious & Necro Butcher when Tursas pinned Delirious with DIVING CROSS BODY FROM SECOND ROPE @ 6:15.

The Brotherhood had a smart game plan and isolated the wild masked man in the corner. They continually worked him over until the massive girth of the mighty Tursas was too much to kick out from.

4) Joey Ryan (w/Truth Martini) beat "Knockout Artist" Chris Hero with the WALK-OFF @ 11:25.

Hero was in control and hit two consecutive Rolling Elbows. Truth Martini jumped to the apron to argue and then was leveled as well. Hero had his back turned too long though as Ryan hit a low blow and then his version of the Superkick to get the fall. Hero left the ring visably frustrated and upset.

5) Jay & Mark Briscoe and "Zombie Princess" Jimmy Jacobs & B.J. Whitmer fought to a DOUBLE-DISQUALIFICATION @ 8:35.

The match was spent on the outside most of the time. The ref could not handle it and rang the bell.

-ROH Title Shot on the Line-
6) "Lone Wolf" Davey Richards (w/R.D. Evans) beat "The Phenomenal" A.J. Styles with the ANKLE LOCK @ 18:25.

An exciting match between these two. Evans was able to rip up Styles at the ropes and gave Richards the opening he needed. After two Alarm Clocks he then sinched in the submission hold. After almost three minutes Styles finally tapped. Richards held on to the hold and Evans frantically grabbed at him to get him to release it for fear of disqualification. He finally did after ROH officials came out.

-R.O.H. World Tag Team Title Match-
7) Black Dynamite (Shelton Benjamin & Montel Vontavious Porter) beat ReDRagon (Bobby Fish & Kyle O'Reilly) when Benjamin pinned Fish with PAYDIRT @ 16:20.

The champions continue their streak and once again turn back the challenge of O'Reilly and Fish.

-R.O.H. Television Title Match-
8) Adam Cole (w/Steve Corino) (c) beat Jay Lethal @ 19:16 with the SUPERKICK.

Cole was in major trouble here. He was lucky to duck a leg lariat and then hit multiple superkicks. Lethal tried to kick out but Corino held on to his legs during the three count for the tainted win.

-R.O.H. World Title Match-
9) "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen pinned Tommaso Ciampa with POWERBOMB ONTO APRON @ 28:51.

Match of the year! Steen uncharacteristically showed respect after the match and shook hands with his foe. A re-match will be booked at some point. The good feeling was broken by a sudden attack by Davey Richards who stomped and kicked Steen with a steel chair! He applied the Ankle Lock until it was broen up by Jimmy Jacobs, BJ Whitmer and Roderick Strong.

NM: Hello fans and welcome to another edition of the newswire. Big news on this edition as we inch closer to BORDER WARS '14 from Toronto. Of course the news the entire world is waiting for is who will be the opponent to face off against Daniel Bryan. I'll get to that shortly I promise.

The main event is now clear with Davey Richards finally earning a shot at the R.O.H. World title belt held by Kevin Steen. Let's not forget the history between these two. Almost two years ago to the day Steen defeated Richards for his first R.O.H. World title reign and late last year Steen put Richards out and almost into retirement after a Package Piledriver. Instead of the easy life Richards has been refocused now called "Lone Wolf" with his nefarious mouthpiece R.D. Evans. Can Davey Richards wear the big gold once again? Let's hear from him right now.

RD: Finally. Finally. The greatest talent to ever grace this promotion and finally gotten the title match that he so richly deserves. It's taken many nights of burning the midnight oil in trying to get the matchmaker to see our way but he has no choice anymore. Kevin Steen must answer for his crimes against wrestling and against you Mr. Richards. Please enlighten the masses.

DR: Kevin Steen. You know last year was a tough one for me on many fronts and I thought about walking away from the sport that I've dedicated my life to over so many years. But I must thank several people for setting me straight. I could not live with myself if ended my career and didn't get a chance to set things right when it comes to you. Two years ago you beat me for the R.O.H. World Title and ever since I lost it from you I've wanted it back. You see to look at you is an insult. You are a disgusting fat body. You do not represent what Ring of Honor is supposed to be about.

But enough talk. In fact if anyone has been paying attention around here I've been letting my actions speak for me. If you get in the ring with me not only with you be defeated, you will also be crippled. Plain. Pure. Simple.

KS: Listen I've got a few things on my mind and this needs to be said or we will not start the show. I don't care what you have to do just get Nigel McGuinness out here - right now.

-McGuinness comes out waving his arms wondering what's gotten into Steen.

KS: Thank you so much your lordship. Listen I realize that Bryan Daniel - um Daniel Bryan, how original. Is going to be here tonight and you and our crafty owner tricked him into signing a match here and by some strange circumstance the WWE agreed to let this go through. And as you the matchmaker and supposedly retired pro wrestler you thought it would be a good idea to choose yourself as his opponent. That's a dumb decision on so many levels. I mean look in front of you Nigel you have four men that best represent what Ring of Honor is all about. You could call us the founding fathers. Hell, you might even say we are the MOUNT RUSHMORE of R.O.H. So what gives. Why didn't one of us get chosen?

NG: Well Kevin you are the champion and you are defending your title against Davey Richards tonight so unless you want to pull double duty you were not under consideration. As for your compatriots here you are all very capable wrestlers and you'd do a fine job but I want a chance to deal with this problem on my own and the doctors have said I can do that if I'd like - so I will.

KS: Really? Listen I thought it was maybe even a bit admirable of you to wrestle last December when the very existence of this company was on the line but you're willing to put a lot at stake here. You think you can handle it?

NG: I know I can handle it. Now you got your answer let's get things started.

KS: Not so fast. We are under attack again, this time by a group with unlimited resources and you're going to need all hands on deck to turn back this challenge. You really think that you can afford to deny any one of us a chance at Bryan tonight? I mean when you need us most we may not be there. I just find it odd that no one else beside me is booked tonight.

NG: Listen you've held up things long enough and if one of you wants to wrestle then - B.J. Whitmer get in the ring I'll send an opponent out for you to show what I passed over.

1) B.J. Whitmer (w/Jimmy Jacobs) beat ACH with the ADRENALINE SPIKE @ 12:05.

ACH put up a tough match but could not overcome both men. Jacobs tripped him up at the ropes setting up the Reverse piledriver.

2) "The Prodigy" Mike Bennett (w/Maria Kannelis) defeated Necro Butcher with the PHOTO FINISH @ 5:15.

Bennet made short work of the Butcher with help of Maria's distractions. She pretended to fall down on the apron after a turnbuckle whip and that gave Bennett the opening he needed to get the win.

3) Tommaso Ciampa defeated "King of Old School" Steve Corino (w/Adam Cole) with PROJECT CIAMPA @ 8:45.

Ciampa bruised and bloodied Corino from post to post. Cole tried to intervene but was stopped by the official. The end came after Project Ciampa. Cole tried to sneak in after the bell but Ciampa caught him and hit Project Ciampa on him too. He then took the Television title, looked and it and then dropped it on his chest.

*Before the next match a blond German man stepped forward with his own microphone and told Bobby Cruise to back away. A confused Cruise wasn't sure what to do while the man spoke.



JH: Meine Damen und Herren. Mein Name ist Jakob Hammermier und ich bin der persönlichen Ring Ansager für die Bruderschaft des Kreuzes. Nur HABE ICH als würdig genug zu sprechen die Namen Ares und Tursas.

-#1 Contenders Match-
4) The Hoopla (Joey Ryan & Matt Taven) (w/Truth Martini & Hoopla Hotties) beat Bruderschaft des Kreuzes (Ares & Tursas) (w/Jakob Hammermier) when Taven pinned Ares with THE CLIMAX @ 12:51.

A competitive match that saw the speed of the Hoopla rule the match. Ryan and Taven gelled nicely and pulled off a few impressive double team moves. Hammermier tried to distract things but could only delay the inevitable. Martini sent the Hotties over to keep him occupied but it didn't seem to faze him much.

5) "The Phenomenal" A.J. Styles beat Jay Lethal with a Phenomenal DDT @ 18:35.

Styles eventually took control and poured on the offense in the later stages. A tope to the floor connected and then after rolling Lethal back in he hit a springboard inverted DDT to get the three.

-Texas Death Match-
6) "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin beat "Scrap Daddy" Adam Pearce with SPINNING SSIT-OUT POWERBOMB @ 10:51.

A brutal contest. Both men were bloodied but it was Elgin overpowering his rival and landing two consecutive powerbombs to gain the win.

*Daniel Bryan came to ring showered with boos and toilet paper. Close behind were Triple H and Stephanie McMahon who had brought two men with WWE security jackets and riot gear masks on that helped shield them to the ring. The crowd is loud in their disgust.

HHH: Shut it. Listen I didn't want to be here and my wife didn't want to be here so let's get this over with.
SH: I realize that you people are a bit slow so I'll speak as slowly as I can. Regardless of what happens here tonight Ring of Honor will be in our possession sooner or later so get used to it.

*Next Nigel McGuinness made his way to the ring. Next was the Guest referee CM Punk. The crowd popped huge until Triple H spoke again.

HHH: Oh so there you are. I've been looking all over for you Punk. You decided to go slumming tonight? No matter. You enjoy whatever it is they're paying you because your career is dead in the water buddy.

Punk: Oh really. Well I'm on a sabbatical right now and Vince never said that to me so I guess that means you're a liar.

HHH: (seething) It's over for you. OVER! Because I say it's so. Just like R.O.H. is over.

-Special Attraction- - CM Punk Guest referee
7) Nigel McGuinness beat Daniel Bryan with the TOWER OF LONDON @ 14:25.

Bryan was frustrated the entire match not only by McGuinness by Punk as well who clearly was a bit faster with his counts to favor Nigel. Late in the match Bryan went to swing at Punk but was blocked and caught a right hand from him instead. This led to the finish and a win for Nigel. The fans went wild until Triple H motioned for his guards to hit the ring. They attacked Punk and then went to work on McGuinness. They removed their hoods to reveal .. ANTONIO CESARO and SETH ROLLINS! Cesaro hit the Ricola Bomb and then Bryan locked in the Labell Lock. At this point, Kevin Steen, Jimmy Jacobs, B.J. Whitmer, and Roderick Strong came out and stood arms folded on the ramp. The assault continued until Jay and Mark Briscoe hit the scene with chairs to chase the WWE contingent through the crowd. The end scene saw McGuinness and Punk in a heap in the ring.

-ROH Tag Team Title Match- - Falls Count Anywhere-
8) Jay & Mark Briscoe beat Black Dynamite (Shelton Benjamin & Montel Vontavious Porter) when Jay pinned Porter with the JAY DRILLER @ 12:45 to capture the titles.

The match spent most of the time on the floor as the two teams traded chairs, ringposts, and tables. The end saw Jay drop MVP on his head to bring the titles back to Dem Boys yet again.

-ROH World Title Match-
9) "Mr.Wrestling" Kevin Steen (c) beat "Lone Wolf" Davey Richards (w/R.D. Evans) with a POWERBOMB ONTO APRON @ 20:25.

Several close moments for the champion here. Richards tried to secure the Ankle lock and only did so once but was able to get to the rope break. He moved out of the way of a charge into the buckle and layed some high impact moves on Davey. He went for the Package Piledriver but Evans was able to distract both the ref and Steen before he caught a right to the jaw. Finally after battling on the floor, Steen used a brutal powerbomb on the apron to retain his belt.

JS: Ladies and gentlemen I have tons to share with you on this ROH Newswire. At Border Wars 14' we saw just how far Triple H and Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley would go to acquire Ring of Honor. Nigel McGuinness is currently resting comfortably after the attack on him by several WWE superstars in Toronto. But it's safe to say he may be back into full retirement once again.

We have a huge event planned for the first weekend in June in the great state of Illinois. Tag Wars 14'. It will happen over two nights; June 6th in Carbondale and June 7th in Collinsville. Eight teams will compete in a World Cup style tournament. The winners of each block will meet at "Best in the World" in Nashville on June 22nd to decide who gets the $10,000 and the Tag Wars Cup.

NM: Hello fans. Nigel here with an update about Tag Wars 14'. This is a very exciting event that we have planned for you and it will essentially be spread out over three nights of competition. We did have two spots left and they have both been filled. First the former ROH Tag Team champions - Black Dynamite , Shelton Benjamin and Montel Porter will compete and a surprise entrant. The WWE had contacted us and through Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley she requested through various law parties that their team of Seth Rollins & Antonio Cesaro would compete for the cup and the $10,000. After several meetings it has been confirmed and they will have their spot secured.

On a personal note, I am doing fine. I was pleased with my in-ring performance against Daniel Bryan but not quite so happy about getting back jumped. Needless to say my old injuries have returned and I'm back to the sidelines for the forseeable future. I do have a message for World Wrestling Entertainment as well. You may be the largest company in the world but you can't always get what you want. We will fight for our right to run things our way and just because you say you'll take us over doesn't mean it will happen.

Just ask S.C.U.M. about that.

"Tag Wars '14" - Night One

*Nigel McGuinness was out to start the show. He was noticeably gimpy.
NM: Ladies and gentlemen there has been a change in the program tonight. Shelton Benjamin and Montel Vontavious Porter have decided to withdraw from tonight's competition in protest. However I was able to get a world class tag team to take their place here tonight. So without-

(Black Dynamite rush the ring and they are visably upset.)
SB: Make sure you tell the whole story. Ring of Honor claims to have the best wrestling in the world. So why is it that Montel and myself have to fight to keep our titles against the hillbilly twins? We are wrestlers and that's what we do best and it's why nobody has been able to get us for almost six months. So McGuinness we don't want your damn check we want our titles. We demand a re-match!

Jay Briscoe speaks.
JB: Hey we can't help it that ya'll are too weak for a streefight. But my brother and I got no problem taken on you boys anytime, anyplace.

NM: Hold on. Hold on. I understand you're fighting champions but I will make this match for tomorrow night in Collinsville. And one other thing, Benjamin and Porter. If you don't win the titles back then this will be your last title shot for a very long time. Understood.

Group A:

1) ReDRagon (Bobby Fish & Kyle O'Reilly) defeated Forever Hooligans (Rocky Romero & Alex Koslov) when Fish pinned Romero with CHASING THE DRAGON @ 12:03.

To the fans surprise the Forever Hooligans hit the ring to take Black Dynamite's place. Fish and O'Reilly were very sharp tonight and outwrestled their opponents. They finished off Romero to take a lead in Group A.

2) "Zombie Princess" Jimmy Jacobs & B.J. Whitmer beat Adam Cole & "Old School" Steve Corino when Jacobs pinned Cole with the RAILROAD SPIKE @ 10:45.

It seemed a bit awkward to see Jacobs and Corino in the same ring together and soon it was a pier six brawl. The ref was distracted which gave Jacobs a chance to land the spike in Cole's throat for a three.

3) "Scrap Daddy" Adam Pearce pinned Jay Lethal with JUMPING PILEDRIVER @ 18:02.

An excellent singles matchup. Lethal had Pearce on the ropes until a low blow and stiff piledriver gave Pearce the win. He didn't stop there though as Chris Hero hit the scene upon the urging of Pearce and the two double teamed Lethal. Jay was able to escape with a duck and slid under the ropes before further damage was done.

4) Adam Cole & "King of Old School" Steve Corino beat ReDRagon (Bobby Fish & Kyle O'Reilly) when Cole pinned Fish with FLORIDA KEY @ 16:01.

Cole was impressive in his efforts to hand ReDRagon a loss in the tournament. He outlasted several double teams and reversed a turnbuckle whip to hit the Key for a victory.

5) Forever Hooligans (Rocky Romero & Alex Koslov) beat "Zombie Princess" Jimmy Jacobs & B.J. Whitmer by DISQUALIFICATION when Roderick Strong interfered @ 15:55.

A back and forth match until Koslov landed the Soviet Strike three consecutive times. Fearful for his partners Roderick Strong made it to ringside and tried to give his stable mates an advantage. He was caught tripping Koslov and the ref rang the bell.

-4 Man Scramble for ROH World Title Shot-
6)"Unbreakable" Michael Elgin defeated "Lone Wolf" Davey Richards (w/R.D. Evans), "Prodigy" Michael Bennett (w/Maria Kanellis) & "Phenomenal" A.J. Styles when Elgin pinned Styles with a DEADLIFT POWERBOMB @ 21:15.

A wild affair that saw each man have his chances to win the bout. Elgin was gassed by the end (10 tokens) and appeared almost out until he performed an impressive feat of strength to put away Styles to get the three count. Elgin collapsed on the mat but was soon attacked by Richards who slammed a chair into Elgin's leg that then set things up for the Ankle Lock. Elgin was in deep trouble until Eddie Edwards made the save!

7) Adam Cole & "King of Old School" Steve Corino beat Forever Hooligans (Rocky Romero & Alex Koslov) when Cole pinned Koslov with FLORIDA KEY @ 9:45.

The Hooligans looked ready to gain their first win as they hit the Contract Killer on Corino. Cole though was able to make the save because ref Todd Sinclair had been knocked out during the move. He dropped a elbow on Romero and then hit a Superkick/Key combo. The groggy official then counted three.

8) ReDRagon (Bobby Fish & Kyle O'Reilly) beat "Zombie Princess" Jimmy Jacobs & B.J. Whitmer when the ref was distracted and Fish dropped an elbow on Jacobs and reversed the pin.

Fish and O'Reilly were able to stay away from Jacobs' foreign objects. All four men brawled in the ring and once again the ref was knocked to the floor. Fish was able to hit a Flying double stomp on Jacobs and O'Reilly cradled him up for the win.

Group B:

1) Bruderschaft des Kreuzes (Ares & Tursas)(w/Jakob Hammermier)defeated The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) when Ares pinned Nick with the DOOMSDAY UPPERCUT @ 9:01.

A bit of a surprise as the returning Bucks were shocked by with a devastating tag move that nearly knocked Nick unconscious.

*Before the WWE team came to ringside four security guards stepped out to the ramp and a familiar voice came over the mic.



PH: Good evening ladies and gentlemen and of course I need no introduction. I'm here in a place that I know all too well. The "bingo halls" of my younger days. But make no mistake I respect the wrestlers in this locker room. They are some of the finest in the world but they aren't as good as these next two gentlemen. You see they've graduated from R.O.H. and stepped up their game to become superstars. They'll show you that tonight."

2) Seth Rollins & Antonio Cesaro (w/Paul Heyman) beat The Hoopla (Joey Ryan & Matt Taven) (w/Truth Martini & Hoopla Hotties) when Cesaro pinned Ryan with the NEUTRALIZER @ 14:35.

A wild match that saw numerous interference from both sides. All four men were in the ring and Cesaro caught Ryan in his Neutralizer as Heyman and Martini slugged it out on the outside and Rollings hit a dive onto Taven from the top rope.

-ROH TV Title Match-
3) Roderick Strong beat Adam Cole (w/Steve Corino) (c) by COUNTOUT @ 13:09.

Strong was very aggressive in his attempt to win the television title. The action rolled to the outside and Corino tried to get involved but he was attacked by Jimmy Jacobs who leveled him with the railroad spike. Strong then hit a piledriver on the concrete floor and rolled back in to get the countout victory.

4) The Hoopla (Joey Ryan & Matt Taven) (w/Truth Martini & Hoopla Hotties) defeated The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) when Ryan pinned Matt with 'NUFF SAID @ 12:25.

Martini got a measure of revenge against his former team as The Hoopla were about to string together several double-team moves to get themselves even in the group standings.

5) Seth Rollins & Antonio Cesaro (w/Paul Heyman) beat Bruderschaft des Kreuzes (Ares & Tursas)(w/Jakob Hammermier)when Rollins pinned Ares with GOD'S LAST GIFT @ 10:51.

Ares and Tursas weren't sure how to respond to the former Claudio Castagnoli as he acted as if he didn't know either man. The WWE team were tough to match as Cesaro hit a pop-up uppercut that floored Ares and then Rollins dropped him on his head.

-ROH Tag Team Title Match-
6) Black Dynamite (Shelton Benjamin & Montel Vontavious Porter) beat Jay & Mark Briscoe (c) when Benjamin pinned Mark with PAYDIRT after outside interference @ 16:45.

No one seemed prepared for what Black Dynamite had up their sleeves in this one. All four men fought in the ring and Porter hit a kick to Jay's skull and chased him to the outside. Daniel Bryan then ran out to the ring and leveled Mark with a steel chair! The ref was busy trying to get order restored and missed it. Benjamin then hit Paydirt on the steel and got the three count. Could the new tag team champions really be a part of WWE?

7) The Hoopla (Joey Ryan & Matt Taven)(w/Truth Martini & Hoopla Hotties) beat Bruderschaft des Kreuzes (Ares & Tursas)(w/Jakob Hammermier)by DISQUALIFICATION when Tursas Powerbombed Taven through a Table @ 8:51.

Frustration for the BDK after a tough evening for them. The big man crushed Taven with a clothesline on the outside and then dropped him thru a ringside table. Medics had to be called out as the ref rang the bell.

8) Seth Rollins & Antonio Cesaro (w/Paul Heyman) beat The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) when Cesaro pinned Matt with a VERY EUROPEAN UPPERCUT @ 10:34.

The fans were very unhappy with the outcome as the WWE team made a clean sweep with a pinfall win over the Bucks. Heyman bragged post-match that he told them all and that his team would obviously win the cup and the money at Best in the World.

JS: ROH Fans a huge weekend in Illinois has created shockwaves throughout the organization. Tag Team wrestling was on the menu as the Tag Wars tournament kept fans entertained, Most notably a WWE representative team of ROH alumni swept their group and will oppose Adam Cole and Steve Corino at "Best in the World". Not only that but the former ROH Tag Team champions Black Dynamite regained their belts from the Briscoe brothers and they had some help from WWE superstar Daniel Bryan. So of course this begs the question, why?

Are Shelton Benjamin and Montel Porter on the payroll of the WWE? Right now requests for interviews with the tag champions have been denied but they will have to talk sooner or later.
