* - Recovering from the broken nose he sustained two weeks ago at the hands of Hallowicked, Amasis was surprised to hear a few sympathetic cheers for him as he emerged from the locker room for his singles contest with Fire Ant.
As the bout was all set to start, the “Funky Pharaoh” took to the mic and politely requested for CHIKARA ring announcer Carolina Jim to join him in the ring. When Jim accepted the invitation, Amasis proceeded to apologize to him for acting like a jerk over the last couple of months and thanked the ring announcer for assisting Ophidian in helping Amasis back to the locker room after The Osirian Portal’s match with Incoherence fourteen days ago. Amasis and Jim then enjoyed a hearty handshake, much to the satisfaction of the Easton crowd, signalling a burying of the hatchet between the two men!
Amasis wrestled a very clean and competitive match against Fire Ant, who seemed a little taken aback by Amasis’ adherence to the rules!
After a frenetic finish that saw near falls for both participants, the “Funky Pharaoh” secured the win and moments after the pinfall shared a sporting handshake with Fire Ant as the Chikarmy chanted for Amasis to dance!
Encouraged by Fire Ant, Carolina Jim and the fans, Amasis danced for the first time since he lost a Dance-Off against Carolina Jim four weeks earlier! Amasis was quickly joined by Fire Ant, Carolina Jim and even Ophidian and Soldier Ant who’d wandered down to ring side in an impromptu mass jig!
As everyone enjoyed themselves, the fun abruptly ended as Icarus disturbed the festivities, arriving for his match with Soldier Ant in a filthy mood…
** - At the climax of the match, Icarus was able to steal a victory by feigning a low blow, much to the chagrin of the innocent Soldier Ant whose pleas for justice went unheard!
*** - Quality match. Not for the first time this season, Tim Donst’s frustrations got the better of him and cost his team dearly. Riled up by the rudo trio’s constant rule breaking, Donst eventually succumbed to temptation and employed his own rule breaking tactics. Unfortunately for Donst, he was nowhere near as adept at cheating as Kingston, Castagnoli and Taylor! Subsequently, the referee was quick to punish Donst for his indiscretions and eventually called for the bell when Donst was caught choking out the “Kentucky Gentleman” with his bootlaces!
After the match, Johnny Saint expressed his disappointment in Donst for again letting his emotions cloud his judgement. That said, the veteran British grappler was quick to encourage his young pupil by saying that with a little more seasoning and experience, Donst would easily eliminate these problems.
Annoyed by his disqualification after all the rule breaking that the rudo’s had skilfully gotten away with, Donst was in no mood to listen to his mentor’s advice. Saying nothing, an angry Donst pushed Saint away and sulked his way back to the locker room as Saint looked on and wondered what he could possibly do to get his youthful student back on the right path.
**** - The tecnico team made short work of The Order, defeating them in under five minutes! A dominant Jigsaw took care of business for the majority of the match with Quackenbush spending very little time in the ring. This gave the “Master of a Thousand Holds” a much needed opportunity to rest his battered ribs that had been targeted so often by CHIKARA’s rudos in recent weeks.
Quack’s most valuable contribution to the contest came when he thwarted a Chuck Taylor run-in! The first ever Young Lions Cup Champion was alert enough to stop Taylor’s attempted break up of what turned out to be the match winning pinfall!
As Jigsaw caught Crossbones off the ropes with a beautiful Sunset Flip, Taylor (who’d been announcing at the Commentation Station) shot from his position at ringside and attempted to grab Jigsaw‘s legs and pull him off of Crossbones and out of the ring! As the F.I.S.T. member tried to slide under the bottom rope, Quack leapt from the apron behind Taylor, snared him in a waist lock, pulled him away from the ring and delivered a high impact Release German Suplex on the floor to “Raccoon City’s Favorite Son”!
Nailed before he could execute his villainous plan, a semi conscious Taylor crawled slowly to the back as “The King of Diamonds” Eddie Kingston and Claudio Castagnoli appeared at the curtain, obviously unhappy that Taylor was unable to prevent Quackenbush and Jigsaw from winning their match.
While Kingston and Castagnoli hurled verbal jabs at Quackenbush and Jigsaw from a safe distance, Quack grabbed a mic.
“Lightning” Mike accused Kingston and Castagnoli as being a menace in CHIKARA since day one, reminding the fans how the rudo pair had attacked, ambushed, pestered and provoked both him and his partner throughout the season; costing Jigsaw a chance to win the Young Lions Cup, viciously injuring Quack and even buying off Chuck Taylor to do their dirty work!
Jigsaw then took the mic and announced that he and his tag partner had a challenge for Kingston and Castagnoli on the next show in two weeks time, a special tag team match that would force the losers to disband as a tag team!
“That’s right!”, voiced Quack as Jigsaw handed the mic back to him. The losing duo would NEVER be able to operate as a tag team EVER AGAIN in CHIKARA!
Shocked by the bold challenge and backed into a corner, Kingston and Castagnoli nervously deliberated for a few moments before mustering up some bravado and agreeing to the tecnico’s stipulation! Kingston went on to boast that he and Claudio would make Quack and Jigsaw pay for insisting on such a stupid condition for the match while Castagnoli said it would be a pleasure to break Quackenbush and Jigsaw up as a tag team!
Quackenbush and Jigsaw then decided to give “The King of Diamonds” and the “Snobby Swiss Aristocrat” a taste of what they had in store for them, climbing out of the ring and heading towards the rudo pair but Kingston and Castagnoli took flight and made their escape!
***** - Before the contest began and both teams occupied their respective corners, Sweeney thrust a well worn copy of the Tex-Arkana Pro Wrestling Rulebook into CHIKARA Senior Official Bryce Remsburg’s chest! The “Golden Palomino” then instructed the referee to scrutinize page 751 of the hefty volume and in particular the paragraph pertaining to the rules of the Tex-Arcana Quatro Cyclone match!
Glancing over the yellowing page, Bryce digested its contents and signalled his comprehension of the rules to Sweeney before heading over to Delirious and Hallowicked, both patiently crouching in their corner. Remsburg attempted to show the Rulebook to the tecnico duo and explain the match’s unusual regulations but it was unclear whether Incoherence were remotely interested! Instead their respective gazes were locked on their bitter rivals across the squared circle!
The bout began with a flurry of action and it quickly became apparent that all four competitors could legally be in the ring at the same time, as in a Texas Tornado Tag Team match.
The battle between the two enemy teams raged well beyond the twenty five minute mark with both sides enjoying periods of dominance but finding victory elusive!
As the match reached its conclusion, Daizee Haze wiped out Delirious on the floor with a picture perfect plancha, leaving a heavily fatigued Larry Sweeney and an almost exhausted Hallowicked alone in the ring!
Sweeney mustered up all his remaining strength and threw a discus clothesline at Wicked but the man from Sleepy Hollow had enough presence of mind to duck underneath the move, hook Sweeney from behind and roll him up into a school boy pin!
With Sweeney’s shoulders down, Bryce hit the canvas…
ONE…
TWO…
THREE!!!
Ecstatic, Hallowicked released Sweeney, slumped to his knees and celebrated the three count with a deafening and cathartic roar! Returning to his feet, the “Dark Minion of the Underworld” raised his arms in victory but strangely, Remsburg had NOT signalled for the bell to end the match. Bryce grabbed Wicked by the arm and pulled it down, explaining to the “Nightmare Warrior” that the contest wasn’t over!
As Hallowicked remonstrated with CHIKARA’s Senior Official, Sweeney slyly ascended to the top rope and let fly with a daring 12 Large Flying Elbow, nailing Wicked from behind and sending him crashing down hard to the mat! Sweeney quickly scrambled into position to cover his nemesis…
ONE…
TWO…
THREE…
FOUR!!!
After the four count, Bryce called for the bell and the Tex-Arkana Quatro Cyclone match ended with Sweet & Sour International victorious! The “Quatro” referred to in the match’s title didn’t only signify that this tag match allowed all four competitors to be in the ring at the same time; it also meant that a FOUR count was needed to secure a pinfall and not the normal 1-2-3!
With Delirious still out on the floor, Daizee Haze entered the ring. While Sweeney busied himself jaw jacking with the irate fans at ringside, explaining to anyone who would listen that he’d outsmarted Incoherence, a concerned Daizee went to check on Wicked.
Just now starting to stir from the knock out elbow strike that had cost him the match, Hallowicked lay on the canvas massaging the back of his head. On seeing Daizee approach, Wicked kicked out at her in mistrust! Climbing to his feet, Hallowicked made it very clear that he wanted nothing to do with the woman who’d broke his heart two short months ago. Perhaps sensing the pain that she’d caused Wicked, Daizee backed away as a recovered Delirious slid into the ring to attend to his tag partner. Delirious garbled a mad scream at Daizee, perhaps in an attempt to show her that she’d already done enough damage. With nowhere left to turn, Daizee rejoined the jubilant Sweeney and the rudo duo returned to the locker room bombarded by a barrage of boos!
