* The struggling Drew Gulak looks to return to the win column at Prelude to Violence against Greg Excellent! Gulak, who hasn't won in the Combat Zone since January, has grown visibly more & more frustrated with every loss.
* Last week, we reported that Pinkie Sanchez had been begging CZW management for a spot in Tournament of Death XIII. He has continued this week, & in the process, he has vexed CZW owner DJ Hyde. Hyde has issued Sanchez a challenge: if Pinkie beats him at Prelude to Violence, he will receive his TOD spot.

PRELUDE TO VIOLENCE
Singles Match Danny Havoc def Robert Anthony via TOTAL HAVOC
* Havoc picks up a much needed win headed into Tournament of Death.
Singles Match Greg Excellent def Drew Gulak via TIGER DRIVER
* Another tough loss for Gulak, who appears to be on the verge of a breakdown following the match.
Singles Match DJ Hyde def Pinkie Sanchez via disqualification
* Earlier this week, Hyde guaranteed Sanchez a spot in Tournament of Death if he could beat the owner of CZW. Not only was Sanchez able to brawl with Hyde, but he actually got the best of DJ, busting him wide open at ringside with a thunderous chair shot! Afterwards, Sanchez, upset that he had cost himself his shot at getting into TOD, was consoled by Hyde who rewarded Pinkie's aggression with a spot in Tournament of Death! An elated Sanchez graciously thanks Hyde before leaving ringside.
Singles Match Dave Crist def Alex Colon via HEAD AND ARM TRAP DDT
* DJ Hyde's plan to curtail BLKOUT interference by assigning matches to all of them may have worked as Dave Crist is able to defeat Colon, who receives no assistance from BLKOUT.
Singles Match Ruckus def Drake Younger via THE HATE CRIME
* Despite being alone at ringside, Ruckus fares much better than Alex Colon & is able to squeak by the rising Younger.
Singles Match AR Fox def Claudio Castagnoli via AR-KO
* Fox impresses the Combat Zone after 2 failed attempts to claim the Ultraviolent Underground Championship.
CZW World Tag Team Championship Match BLKOUT (BLK Jeez [W] & Joker) {C} def Kevin Steen & El Generico [L] via BLK JESUS WALKS
* Steen & Generico seem to have the CZW World Tag Team titles in their grasp until DJ Hyde's plan unravels when Alex Colon rushes to save his teammates. Hyde runs after him & quickly neutralizes him with a hellacious lariat. When Hyde turns around, however, he is faced with Ruckus, armed with a beer bottle that he grabbed from a fan. Ruckus smashes the bottle over Hyde's head, laying him out with blood rushing from the wound. Ruckus then begins taunting Generico until he is chased from ringside by Steen. The long-time tag partners, Jeez & Joker, successfully capitalize on the temporary advantage & retain the titles for BLKOUT again.
CZW World Heavyweight Championship Match Matt Tremont {C} def Adam Cole w/ Mia Yim via URANAGE
* Cole, in an obvious attempt to lure Tremont into getting himself disqualified, walks to the ring pushing a shopping cart full of objects (road signs, baking sheets, kendo sticks, etc.) & spreads them around ringside. Tremont, however, abstains himself from using them & is victorious in his most recent battle with Cole, avenging his controversial loss at Best of the Best XIII.
CZW Ultraviolent Underground Championship Ultraviolent Match Sami Callihan {C} def Jake Crist via STRETCH MUFFLER
* Jake Crist allows his emotions to get the best of him again, losing his focus & ultimately his rematch with Callihan when he leaves himself exposed for the STRETCH MUFFLER. Whereas Jake's objective in their last meeting was simply to harm Callihan as much as possible, the younger Crist's goal this time was to take Sami's coveted Ultraviolent Underground title away from him. As Callihan exits ringside, he makes a promise to Jake: he will NEVER get another shot at the UVU championship unless Sami says so.

* CZW owner DJ Hyde is recovering from the shot he took with the beer bottle from Ruckus at Prelude to Violence. Hyde received many stitches as a result of the attack, & everyone at CZW wishes him a speedy recovery.
* CZW management has announced the seventh entrant into Tournament of Death XIII: CZW World Heavyweight Champion, MATT TREMONT! At Best of the Best, tournament winner Caleb Konley was rewarded with a shot at the CZW World Heavyweight title. At Tournament of Death, CZW management has promised something even bigger: the CZW World Heavyweight Championship will be up for grabs in every match that the champion is in! That means in order for Tremont to leave TOD with his title, he will have to win all 3 of his tournament matches! Ultimately, the competitor that wins the tournament will also leave with the CZW World Heavyweight title.
TOURNAMENT OF DEATH XIII * Tournament of Death XIII participants: 1. Danny Havoc 2. DJ Hyde 3. Jon Moxley 4. Necro Butcher 5. MASADA 6. Pinkie Sanchez 7. Matt Tremont

* The final participant in Tournament of Death XIII will be announced later this week, along with first round match stipulations!
* CZW owner DJ Hyde continues to recuperate from Prelude to Violence, & he is not expected to miss Tournament of Death because of it. With BLK Jeez & Joker currently touring with Big Japan Pro Wrestling, the remaining members of BLKOUT, Ruckus & Alex Colon, may be vulnerable to retaliation at TOD.
* In addition of the Tournament of Death itself, the CZW Ultraviolent Underground Championship will also be defended in Delaware next weekend! CZW management has named former Wired TV/UVU Champion Greg Excellent as the challenger for Sami Callihan's title at TOD.

* CZW Ultraviolent Underground Championship match Sami Callihan {C} vs Greg Excellent

Tremont has a rough road ahead of him, but I have certainly enjoyed his run so far. Actually met him a couple months ago, and he is a really cool dude. Going to another show with him this weekend.
Also interested to see if the big win over Claudio will lead AR Fox back toward the top of the card.
Good stuff man, keep it up.

* CZW owner DJ Hyde has personally named the final participant for Tournament of Death XIII: Ruckus! In addition, as Hyde continues to recover from the brutal shot from Ruckus with the beer bottle at Prelude to Violence that left him in a pool of his own blood, DJ has pitted himself against Ruckus in the first round in a Panes of Glass match!
* As reported last week, the CZW World Heavyweight Championship will be defended in every match that the champion appears in at TOD. Matt Tremont, the current titleholder, will meet Jon Moxley in the first round. The winner must then defend the title in the next round against either Ruckus or DJ Hyde, & the winner of that bout will defend the title in the finals against either Danny Havoc, Pinkie Sanchez, Necro Butcher, or MASADA.
* Also appearing in non-tournament action at TOD will be Alex Colon, who will face Drew Gulak. Gulak's woes in the Combat Zone have been well-documented over the past several months, but DJ Hyde has provided Drew with some added motivation as he prepares for one of Hyde's foes: if Gulak loses to Colon at TOD, Drew is fired!
[PROMOTER'S NOTE: That match types listed for the TOD matches are solely for writing/storyline purposes, some based on past favorites of mine. I will use the 'Fans Bring the Weapons' match card for all TOD tournament matches.]
TOURNAMENT OF DEATH XIII * Tournament of Death XIII

Light Tubes & Ladders Match: Necro Butcher vs MASADA
Panes of Glass Match: Ruckus vs DJ Hyde
CZW World Heavyweight Championship Four Corners of Hell Dog Collar Match: Matt Tremont {C} vs Jon Moxley

* What would Tournament of Death be without Drake Younger??? Younger will compete at TOD against another fan favorite, Rich Swann!
* Last month at Proving Grounds, Shane Strickland defeated MASADA in a hard-fought battle. CZW management chose to reward Strickland with a title shot at the Ultraviolent Underground Championship, but learned shortly thereafter that he was pretty banged up following his match. CZW management is proud to learn that Strickland is healthy once again, & he will challenge the winner of UVU title match at TOD next month at New Heights!
TOURNAMENT OF DEATH XIII * Tournament of Death XIII

TOURNAMENT OF DEATH XIII
Tournament of Death First Round Fans Bring the Weapons Match Danny Havoc def Pinkie Sanchez via TOTAL HAVOC
* Havoc makes quick work of Sanchez to advance to the next round!
Tournament of Death First Round Light Tubes & Ladders Match Necro Butcher def MASADA via chair assisted body slam
* CZW fans came expecting a bloodbath, & these two death match legends didn't disappoint! In the end, Necro fittingly finishes off MASADA with the assistance of a chair.
Tournament of Death First Round Panes of Glass Match Ruckus def DJ Hyde via The Deal
* The CZW owner was looking for revenge against Ruckus, but Hyde came up short in his chosen type of match. Furthermore, Ruckus now has the opportunity to leave TOD XIII as CZW World Tag Team champion AND CZW World Heavyweight Champion!
Tournament of Death First Round CZW World Heavyweight Championship Four Corners of Hell Dog Collar Match Matt Tremont {C} def Jon Moxley via SITOUT POWERBOMB
* The two veterans of dog collar matches [PROMOTER'S NOTE: ...and two of my favorite CZW matches in recent years] fought hard in this bout, but Tremont prevails & manages to hold on to his title through the first round.
Singles Match Drew Gulak def Alex Colon via UNIVERSITY STRETCH
* Gulak successfully breaks his losing streak (and keeps his spot in the Combat Zone) by defeating Colon in a technical exhibition that was a break from the tournament.
Tournament of Death Semi-Finals Caribbean Spider Web Match Necro Butcher def Danny Havoc via diving cross body
* Necro places himself in position to win both TOD XIII & the CZW World Heavyweight Championship after a diving cross body that lands Havoc in the barbed wire.
Tournament of Death Semi-Finals CZW World Heavyweight Championship Barbed Wire Boards Match Matt Tremont {C} def Ruckus via URANAGE
* Tremont squeaks by a co-holder of the CZW World Tag Team Championship. Alex Colon attempted to interject himself into the match, but was stopped by DJ Hyde, who once again laid Colon out with a brutal lariat, allowing the contest to continue without interference. Can Tremont defy the odds of winning out TOD XIII to retain his title?
Singles Match Drake Younger def Rich Swann via DRAKE'S LANDING
* Excellent show of sportsmanship from both competitors from bell to bell with Younger getting the win.
CZW Ultraviolent Underground Ultraviolent Match Sami Callihan {C} def Greg Excellent via exploder suplex
* The action returns to its ultraviolent nature as Callihan defends the UVU title after an exploder suplex through one of the barbed wire boards left over from a TOD match. Callihan's win will be short-lived, however, as he now must prepare for his next challenger, Shane Strickland!
* CZW World Heavyweight Champion Matt Tremont is introduced for the finals of TOD XIII. He addresses the audience & reminds them that his first-ever TOD match was also Necro Butcher's last TOD match. He calls for Necro Butcher, & challenges him to rematch of that bout: a water jugs & bats match! Necro comes to the ring, accepts the stipulation, & the two shake hands.
Tournament of Death Finals CZW World Heavyweight Championship Water Jugs & Bats Match Matt Tremont {C} def Necro Butcher via SITOUT POWERBOMB
* In a rematch that was every bit as brutal as the original, an exhausted Tremont manages to put away Necro to keep the CZW World Heavyweight title and earn the title of TOD XIII winner. Afterwards, Necro grabs the trophy away from DJ Hyde & personally presents it to Tremont while congratulating him. Tremont thanks Necro & all of the Combat Zone fans, & promises to return to TOD XIV next year with his sights set on adding another trophy to his collection.

That tournament was nuts. I was not really all that familiar with CZW aside from their feud with ROH. The game cards made me want check out some of the action. I have seen some of their cards some of which was great and some of which was not so great. After reading the last card I think I will seek out this years TOD. Awesome event. Looking forward to what is next.
