I thought this premiere was very solid from the vibe that you got from the start to throughout the episode, it had a normal life vibe to the spooky you don't (well we do know) know what's going on vibe with the characters. I think the best character that kicks this series off is Nick Clark and how the beginning of the end effects him, very cool and Frank Dillane who plays Nick was good in that role. Seeing the preview for the season and this first batch of episodes really looks top notch, so I'd say Fear is a hit with me...

Fear garnered 10.1 million viewers last night, it broke a premiere record and here is the article...
AMC’s “Fear the Walking Dead,” the much-anticipated companion series to megahit zombie drama “The Walking Dead,” opened to monster — and record-setting — ratings of its own own Sunday night.
Nielsen estimates that the 90-minute debut of “Fear the Walking Dead” became the No. 1-rated cable series launch on record with 10.1 million viewers, including 6.3 million adults 18-49. In total viewers, “Fear” surpasses TNT’s “Raising the Bar” (7.7 million in 2008) as top dog among cable premieres.
The previous record in the 18-49 demo was AMC’s “Better Call Saul” (4.4 million) earlier this year. In fact, AMC now has three of the top five cable launches of all time, with “Walking Dead” ranking fifth.
In both 18-49 and total viewers, Sunday’s premiere out-rated all 22 episodes from the first two seasons of “The Walking Dead.” The original’s third-season premiere did a 5.8 demo rating and 10.87 million total viewers.
Leading into the “Fear” premiere Sunday, a special “Talking Dead” season-6 preview episode did a 1.9 rating in 18-49 and 4.2 million viewers overall.
AMC is expected to release Live+3 ratings for “Fear the Walking Dead” and “Talking Dead” on Friday.
“Fear the Walking Dead,” created by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson, differentiates itself from the original by being set both in a different place (Los Angeles) and time (at the very beginning of the apocalyptic outbreak). Its cast includes Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane and Ruben Blades.
Helping serve as a seat-warmer for the mothership’s return on Oct. 11, “Fear” will air six episodes in its first season. It was handed a straight-to-series, two-season order by AMC in March. Season two is slated for 2016.

Having watched FTWD, it was very well done. I totally agree that the Nick Clark character makes the show. His struggle with sanity in lieu of the unfolding events is captivating. And so far this show is far creepier than the original.

I find with Nick Clark the drug use and the Gloria eating those two guys really helped push the story of him not sure if it's the drugs or he's insane, plus Dillane really delivered the best acting of the episode, but I do like the other cast members so far. While I watched it for a second time, I loved hearing all the sirens in the Los Angeles background...

I haven't had cable for a couple years now so I will be waiting for it to hit NetFlix but it looks like it will be worth the wait!

You can watch the first episode on amc.com without a cable sub.
I really enjoyed this first episode. Although I was disappointed to see a walker in the first minutes of the show; the story was very well done. This is the episode I was hoping to see. The gradual down fall of society and an uncertainty with what is going on.

I have to disagree with you Sickman I enjoyed seeing the walker in the first few minutes as it played right away with the psychology of the show. I also loved the helicopter shot of the Walker Attack on the news. It will be hugely rewarding to see how slowly or rapidly society starts to crumble on this show.

Like it was said in the promo for the series, Society falls fast and that's how this show will go and I have no issue with that. We will I'm sure have a cliffhanger at the end of this short season, which will be good...

I also loved the helicopter shot of the Walker Attack on the news. It will be hugely rewarding to see how slowly or rapidly society starts to crumble on this show. Having thought about it over night, whether or not Nick was going crazy was a, if not the, major plot point. I did like how the knife was sticking out of the meth head walker. I can kind of imagine that meth head saying, "Get away from me you crazy bitch!", stabs her close to the heart and quickly realizing that didn't work, "Oh S**t!!" I was originally disappointed that they had the walker so quickly. But then I realized a show about zombies is probably going to have zombies!! But you are right; it set the tone from the beginning. I also agree about the shot from the helicopter and them seeing for the first time what is happening on the internet. Remember this moment when they actually had this sort of technology and how they try to navigate a world without it as much as they try to navigate a world soon to be over run by the dead!
