Card 03 – London Gardens, London – January 25, 2015
Commonwealth Title Tournament – Round One
Bryan Danielson v. Iron Mike DiBiase Some fine counter wrestling early on between these two who know their holds. Back to back Yakuza Kicks sets up a full nelson suplex that forces DiBiase to the floor. Danielson comes outside and runs DiBiase into the ring side rails. The bell sounds and the official has disqualified the American Dragon. The fans hate the call but DiBiase will take the win and move on in the tournament. (1.0)
Austin Aries v. Billy “Red” Lyons The opening moments of the match saw the wildly popular Lyons go for a clothesline and Aries counter with one of his own sending both men to the mat. Lyons is up first and hits a powerbomb that near ends it. Lyons then puts Aries shoulders to the mat with a rolling reverse cradle for another near fall. The momentum stays with Lyons who draws on the fans support, countering an attempted shoulder tackle with a choke slam (ch) for the three count. (1.5)
Nigel McGuinness v. Colt Cabana Cabana gets some laughs early on but McGuinness is not impressed and grinds away at the Chicago native. A short arm lariat gets a two count and McGuinness follows with a JAWBREAKER LARIAT that nearly ends the match. McGuinness is hitting everything. Cabana catches a break and nails a running double knee strike. Cabanarama scores Cabana a two count of his own and suddenly we have a match. A folding Thesz Press leads to a lariat from Cabana. McGuinness is reeling and Cabana hits a second Cabanarama for the come from behind victory. (2.5)
Chris Hero v. Stevie Richards It is all Richards early on and he pushes it taunting Hero at one point. Rat Trap only gets a one count but is enough to set up a STEVIE KICK for the huge win for Richards (0.5)
Commonwealth Title Tournament – Semi-Finals
Iron Mike DiBiase v. Billy “Red” Lyons The early action is full of intensity and has a great pace. DiBiase connects with a deathjump clothesline but Lyons is able to come back and catch DiBiase on the top of the corner and toss him to the mat. Lyons with a choke slam (ch) for a one count. They brawl on the floor and the fans love it. Back inside, Lyons applies a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK but DiBiase makes the ropes. Lyons applies the hold a second time and again DiBiase makes the ropes. DiBiase counters out of an attempted powerbomb and scores with a body slam. Lyons goes into the ropes and on the rebound catches DiBiase with an inside cradle for the three count (Snake Eyes!). The fans are happy to see Lyons reach the finals and give him a solid ovation post match (2.5)
Colt Cabana v. Stevie Richards Cabana offers a handshake and Richards will have nothing to do with it. Cabana takes the early advantage leading to a folding Thesz Press for a one count. Cabana gets all of his classic spot in before the action goes to the floor where Richards gets the best of the exchange. Back in the ring, Richards hits a vertical suplex and then a sitout facebuster for a near fall. Two more sitout facebusters set up a flying crotch attack. STEVIE KICK connects but only gets two and half. Second STEVIE KICK but again Cabana gets the shoulder up. Stevie T leads to a flying crotch attack before a Rat Trap sends Richards to the finals. (2.5)
Extreme Rules Match – PG 13 (Wolfie D. & J.C. Ice) v. Backseat Boyz (Trent Acid & Johnny Kashmere) After the previous conclusions to the matches between these two teams the fans expected complete chaos and that is how it started. Acid cracks D. with chair shot busting him open but D. is able to comeback choking Acid with a rope. Ice makes liberal use of his hubcap on Acid leaving him a bloody mess. Ice delivers a final blow with the hubcap and covers a dazed Acid for the three count while D. blocks Kashmere from making the save. (1.5)
Commonwealth Title Tournament – Finals
Billy “Red” Lyons v. Stevie Richards Richards gets a quick start to the match and forces the battle to the floor where he slams Lyons to the concrete for a near count out. Lyons comes back with a pair of atomic drops and rapid fire dropkicks after blocking a choke slam attempt. Richards catches Lyons with a leg drop and then nails the Rat Trap for a big near fall. They brawl on the floor and Richards gets the advantage. Back in the ring, Richards hits a choke slam and hooks the leg to win the Commonwealth Title. The fans are stunned. Commission Charlie Cox presents Richards with the Title Belt after the match. (2.0)

Very surprised with Stevie Richards going all the way to claim the Commonwealth title... On fact, he probably would've been the last participant in that tournament that I would've picked to win... Snap!
Big Extreme Rules win by PG-13, but I think their rivalry with the Backseat Boys has farther to go... Great stuff!

Awesome win for Stevie Richards in beating Billy Red Lyons in the Commonwealth title tournament finals. It will be interesting to see how Richards fares as a defending champion. PG-13 vs. Backseat Boys is looking to be an awesome rivalry. I am really looking forward to Danny Hodge defending the Canadian Heavyweight title in the rematch against Jerry Lynn. Bryan Danielson as the special referee is a really interesting choice.

Thanks for the feedback cruefan68. When the option for the special referee was rolled on the Commissioner Card I thought Danielson would be an interesting option. Would be turn on either man or call things down the middle? It allowed for some creativity. Card 04 – Civic Centre, Ottawa – February 8, 2015 “Leaping” Lanny Poffo v. Brad Armstrong Poffo puts on an incredible display of agility early on in between telling off the fans at ringside keeping his heat. Armstrong comes back with a series of backdrops and clotheslines. Poffo misses a charge to the corner and Armstrong rolls him up for a two count. It is all Armstrong now. Three deathjumps encompass an abdominal stretch. Dropkick looks great and leads to a RUSSIAN LEG SWEEP. Angelo Poffo hits the ring but Armstrong ducks his clothesline and he takes out his own son. Bob Armstrong arrives and brawls with Angelo back to the dressing room. Armstrong hooks the leg but Poffo kicks out. They leap frog and drop down rebounding off the ropes. Poffo goes for a backdrop but Armstrong cradles him for the win. Fun opener. (2.0) Tyler Black v. Nigel McGuinness The action starts with shoving match and then Black catches McGuinness with a knee in the corner a short time later. McGuinness forces the action to the floor and dives out onto Black getting a nice reaction from ringside. Black beats the count back in. The pace is incredible. McGuinness with a deathjump onto Black’s boot and God’s Last Gift moves the match back to ringside. McGuinness eats the rails. McGuinness is able to slow the pace and begins to grind away at Black on the mat. Corner to corner forearm strike sets up JAWBREAKER LARIAT for a near fall. They are back and ringside and Black gets the upper hand with a superkick that nearly takes McGuinness’s head off. PHOENIX SPLASH (1) for a near fall for Black. Black mounts the corner for a second one but McGuiness avoids for the crash and burn. The counter back and forth move for move. McGuinness avoids a backdrop with a piledriver. JAWBREAKER LARIAT for two. A boot counters a deathjump and the brawl again on the floor after God’s Last Gift. Black maintains control and attempts another PHOENIX SPLASH. This one connects (3) and is enough to get the win. (3.5) Billy “Red” Lyons (inj 2) & Koko B. Ware v. Justin Credible & Commonwealth Champion Stevie Richards The heels get great heat on the Birdman for a stretch early on. Lyons is eventually able to get the hot tag and the fans are behind him 100%. Lyons is slowed by Credible who then tags in Richards but he misses a flying crotch attack. Lyons has the champion howling with a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK but cannot get the win. Lyons then moves to SLEEPER HOLD and puts Richards out in the middle of the ring. The fans love it and wonder if we are looking at the next Commonwealth Champion? (1.5) Colt Cabana v. Angelo Poffo The offense from Poffo is impressive early on. Cabana gets the best of an exchange on the floor sending Poffo hard into the rails. Chicago Crab forces Poffo outside again they brawl around the floor. Poffo backdrops Cabana off the apron into the ring just as the referee reaches ten and Poffo is counted out of the ring. Both men brawl after the match. Lanny Poffo joins his dad to get heat on Cabana but the Armstrong’s arrive to make the save (1.5) Chris Hero v. Austin Aries Hero gets the early jump on offense including a moonsault and Hero Sandwich which leads to a HERO’S WELCOME for a near fall. Aries gets some life with a knee to the chest in the corner and follows with a running corner dropkick and brainbuster that looks nuts. It all Aries including a pair of pendulum elbows and a Heat-Seeking Missile that pops the crowd. Slingshot senton gets another near fall. Aries takes flight with a frog splash followed by another slingshot senton that only gets two. LAST CHANCERY but somehow Hero makes the ropes. Aries is frustrated but regains his focus with a frog splash and running corner dropkick. Hero is sucking air and Aries finishes it with another slingshot senton. (3.5) “Bullet” Bob Armstrong v. Jimmy Valiant w/Captain Lou Albano No one expected this one to be pretty and it certainly did not start out that way with Armstrong doing serious colour off the post in the opening minutes. Each time it looks like Armstrong may comeback Valiant is able to pull something out of his bag of tricks to keep the Bullet down. The fans are solidly behind Armstrong and who finally breaks out including a running slingshot in the corner. Armstrong scores with a great looking backdrop followed by a knee lift that near separates Valiant’s head from his body. Valiant with poke in the eye but gets caught with a stiff elbow charging to the corner. It is back and forth now. Armstrong manages to catch Valiant with a clothesline in the corner and they go outside. Johnny Valiant comes to ringside to aid his partner and the referee quickly calls for the disqualification as Brad Armstrong then joins the battle. The Armstrongs clear the ring sending the champions retreating to the back (2.5) Tornado Tag Team Match – Backseat Boyz (Trent Acid & Johnny Kashmere) v. PG 13 (Wolfie D. & J.C. Ice) With all four men legal at one time, the action is all over the place. Acid catches D. with an ACID BOMB for a near fall and later Kashmere hits D. with a CRADLE BREAKER but cannot get the pin. The Boyz continue to press the advantage against both members of PG 13. Kashmere uses a full nelson slam to set up a CRADLE BREAKER on Ice for a big near fall. A second CRADLE BREAKER does not get the job done. At one point the referee goes down but the official recovered almost immediately allowing Kashmere to crush Ice with a third CRADLE BREAKER for the win while Acid brawls with D. on the floor. (2.0) Canadian Heavyweight Title Match – Danny Hodge (ch) v. Jerry Lynn w/Bryan Danielson as special referee Lynn and Danielson exchange words before the bell and the fans are watching the situation closely. Hodge gets the advantage and maintains it during a brawl on the floor. Indian Deathlock forces a rope break. Hodge keeps the pressure on moving to a sleeper to nearly get the win. Lynn breaks out with a top rope hurcanrana followed by a twisting leg drop from the apron for a near fall of his own. Lynn with a shoulder tackle and follows with a German suplex and Danielson makes the two count perhaps a little slow. Lynn is not pleased and gets into shoving match with Danielson. The fans are not pleased and Hodge takes advantage spilling Lynn to the floor with a standing dropkick. Lynn bangs his head into the rails and cannot beat Danielson’s rather quick ten count. Hodge retains via count-out. Lynn is fired up after the loss and exchanges blows with Danielson while Hodge grabs his title and heads to the back. (1.5)

Well, snap... Never expected Danielson to show that much bias as a special referee... But, it does a nice job of setting up a future encounter between him and Jerry Lynn... Possibly for a future shot at the champ (who caught a lucky break in this particular match)...
Thoroughly enjoyed the Tornado victory for the Backseat Boyz... And A-Double looked to be on fire, as he pushed Hero beyond his limits...
Highlight match in my eyes was Black vs McGuinness... Very intense!

Thank you as always for the feedback Pariah. I am glad you enjoyed the story line with Danielson turning on Lynn (or perhaps it is Lynn turning on Danielson). They will now have a program but I am not sure that a title shot for either man will be in the near future. I also enjoyed the Boyz victory and was glad to see them get their win back. I was hoping that the feud between PG 13 and Backseat Boyz would have some legs and carry on for a few matches. The dice have been friendly…so far. McGuinness has been a fun card to play with and he may be making a bigger impact shortly. Highlights from Ringside Wrestling on CHCH TV w/Norm Keller & Lord Athol Layton February 14 • The main event for February 22, 2015 card at the Oakville Arena is announced as Stevie Richards will but his Commonwealth Title on the line against Billy “Red” Lyons. • Chris Hero & Tyler Black are victorious in an enhancement tag team encounter. During the match, announcers confirm that Tyler Black will face Tiger Mask in Brantford tonight in a number one contenders match. • Bill Apter Hosts the Hot Seat with Bryan Danielson who proceeds to run down Jerry Lynn and putting himself over as the real top contender for the Canadian Title. This brings out Lynn and they start to brawl. Danielson gets the advantage and applies a chicken wing until security arrives to break things up. Lynn needs assistance leaving the set (2 card injury) • Commissioner Charlie Cox is not pleased with the actions of the American Dragon expressing his disappointment with Danielson. • Mikey Whipwreck makes his debut and comes out on top in an enhancement match. February 15th from Brantford Civic Centre Justin Credible battles Nigel McGuinness After being attacked this afternoon, Jerry Lynn will be looking for revenge when he faces Bryan Danielson Iron Mike DiBiase will be back in action against The Birdman Koko B. Ware Austin Aries clashes with Chris Hero With a shot at the Canadian Title on the line, Tiger Mask meets Tyler Black PG 13 continue their feud with Backseat Boyz in an extreme rules match In the main event, The Valiant Brothers defend the Canadian Open Tag Team Titles against The Armstrongs

I really liked the opener between Brad Armstrong and Lanny Poffo on the last show. Good stuff. The card really built up nicely from there with Black and McGuinness having a great bout. Nice to see the Backseat Boyz pick up the win over PG-13 and that main event finish was shocking with Bryan Danielson issuing the quick ten count. It looks like Danielson vs. Jerry Lynn could be a real war.
I am also looking forward to the Armstrongs vs. the Valiants and that Tiger Mask vs. Tyler Black match could be a show stealer. I almost forgot to mention the television show presentation is awesome.

Thanks for the feedback cruefan68. Ringside Wrestling has been a challenge to present so I am glad you have enjoyed the episodes to date. It has proven to be a great way to make use of the Commissioner’s Card and Bill Apter’s Card. Hopefully Danielson v. Lynn will play out and provide some quality matches.
