What do you guys think of the Raiders owner saying he wants to move the team to Las Vegas if that new domed football stadium is built?
The Raiders have offered to contribute $500 million toward the stadium's construction costs and would share the facility with UNLV's football team.
To approve the funding for the stadium, Nevada is calling in a special session of the state legislature in August to vote on using some portion of the tourist tax dollars to pay for the other parts of the stadium construction costs not covered by the $500 million offered by the Raiders.
If the Raiders indeed moved here, they would become my favorite AFC team- but they would never replace the Seahawks as my overall favorite NFL team.

I saw this and thought it would be a great idea. Besides the Raiders contribution, I read that some of the casinos have also agreed to put in another 150 million.
The only thing is that they would have to allow gambling on professional events that happen at the stadium. So much of the stadium seats these days are filled by oppossing fans that I think a Vegas could be a sustainable team, as so many of the other team fanbases would love to visit Vegas. Besides such a facility could still be utilized outside the pro and college games by large scale concerts, big fights, and conventions. It would also obviously be a regular in the Super Bowl rotation. Very interested to see what happens with this.

Yeah, for the funding, the Raiders have offered $500 million, the Las Vegas Sands Corporation has offered $150 million, and the remaining money (around $750 million) would come from a 1% hotel tax increase that the state legislature would have to vote to approve when it meets in August in a special session. As a local Las Vegas, I think this is a no brainer as it doesn't divert funding from any current taxes and only raises taxes on those using the hotels (mostly out of towners) and that money will eventually pay for itself with an increase in other teams fanbases coming to Las Vegas on the weekends to see their teams play against the Raiders. Since the NFL has talked openly about wanting to possibly expand to London and Mexico City- 2 other places where sports gambling is legal, I think it would be hypocritical of the league to have a problem with the Las Vegas sports books. In addition to being home to an NFL team, this proposed stadium would likely also make UNLV football (who would be playing home games there on Saturdays) actually relevant and I agree probably also lead to a Super Bowl (and also a Wrestlemania) in Las Vegas. Hopefully this happens!

Las Vegas has come a long way.
Until recently none of the big four (NFL, NBA, NHL & MLB) wouldn't consider Las Vegas at all. From the sounds of things two of the big four could be in Vegas within the next couple of years. The NHL should be announcing Vegas very shortly if the Hockey Experts are to be believed, now the Raiders are looking Vegas. I can't wait to see how well both leagues do in Las Vegas in the long run.

As a Raider fan I have mixed feelings. Besides their LA excursion its hard to imagine them not in Oakland. But whatever is best for the team is good by me. I think the move could definitely be an upgrade. Hopefully it would synergize with the teams upswing on the field.

I heard today on the local Las Vegas news that it is being recommended that the stadium funding proposal be accepted. I really think this stadium plan is going to happen.
This might be a big Summer for Las Vegas with possibly (probably) getting both an NHL team and possibly also an NFL team.

Even if the Raiders don't move there (and they probably fit the area better than any other team), if the stadium is built, someone will likely move there sooner or later.

I am actually more excited about the stadium than about the Raiders. But since the stadium plan depends on the $500 million contribution from the Raiders, if they don't move here then there will be no stadium.

As a huge lifelong Oakland Raiders fan I would be disappointed to see them leave Oakland, much as I was when they went to Los Angeles, but the Las Vegas Raiders sounds pretty cool. I could definitely get on board for that. They are having difficulties as far as getting something new built in Oakland so I could see where Las Vegas would be attractive to them since a stadium can be built to make their move worthwhile. My only hope is that ownership puts some of their money into making the team great again. They have been languishing at or near the bottom for so long I can't remember what it's like to have a winning team.

as a LONG TIME RAIDERS fan, I honestly think that this would be a good move. If this franchise moves to Vegas it will be a very good move. The Oakland based fans might not like it, but I bet (yeah...yeah...I used "bet" in this post) they will jump on a plane and make the trip to see them. I AM POSITIVE the LA RAIDER NATION will travel...they already do to San Diego and Oakland so Vegas will be the new destination.
The Marketing Value return alone is worth the $500M deposit the franchise would have to make...being the Vegas Franchise is worth BILLIONS! Vegas knows how to make money...and WE ALL LNOW THAT IS WHAT THE NFL IS ALL ABOUT! (Just ask former fans in St. Louis.)
And yes I think the NFL can make it ABUNDANTLY CLEAR to its PLAYERS on what will happen if they WAGER on games.
