Here's something I've been wondering. What's the Match Modifier supposed to represent? Is it a highlight move or moment? and if so, shouldn't it be rolled after the pre-match? From the way it's worded, it seems to represent a wrestler coming in with either a stat bump/nerf before the match begins, so rolling that before the pre-match makes sense. I'm going off of what's in the Vintage rulebook BTW, not UQW. I don't have access to my old UQW rulebook or cards anymore.

Next we take each wrestler’s Overall Rating and write it on the score sheet. For Flair, this is 2550; For Rich it is 1500. A first glance tells us that Flair is a strong favorite to win the match. But remember, anything can happen and usually does in Pro Wrestling! We then roll a single ten-sided die and consult the Match Modifier chart. The Match Modifier Chart brings into effect many of the wrestler’s special abilities. The Match Modifier also insures that no two matches are exactly the same. Our die roll is a 4 and cross referencing that with the Match Modifier Chart tells us each wrestler’s Ring Savvy rating will have an effect on the match at hand. We consult each wrestler card to see if we add or subtract a “savvy” bonus to the wrestler’s overall rating. A look at Flair’s card shows a savvy bonus of +100. Rich’s card produces a +10 result for the savvy rating. While Flair is a longtime ring veteran, 1991 wasn’t an overly good year for Wildfire.

Thanks. I always thought the match modifiers were to represent a highlight move, like Flair using brass knuckles if you rolled Cheating. For that reason, I rolled a lot of my matches in reverse: prematch, then MM.

Yeah, the Ultra Quick works better for things like basketball. I like the idea for wrestling but I ultimately need some more meat to a game. I think Face to the Mat did a better job of not quite being hold for hold but giving you more of a feel for a match. I play FTTM along with LOW. It's a completely different approach to putting pro wrestling on your tabletop, but it's equally as much fun. Joebreakdown's reaction to UQ Wrestling doesn't surprise me. I never purchased the game because, based on online descriptions, I could never figure out what was supposed to be fun about it. I like the concept of UQW, I really do but it's ultimately a hollow experience. There's nothing that builds your Fed's character because it's really just random chart rolls.

Ehm,all dice rolls are random Whereas, nothing that takes place in professional wrestling is random. Everything that happens, no matter how shocking, does so in just the way it was intended to happen. If Mr. X pins Andre The Giant, it's not a random occurrence. It's not because The Giant rolled snake eyes. It's meaningful as part of some larger story the wrestling promotion is telling. That's why playing LOW is so much fun for me: because it challenges me imaginatively to transform random events into planned ones and to supply the reasons. I guess the poster is saying that UQW doesn't integrate its random elements into such a satisfying game experience for him.
