AWA Road Show at Hartford, CT Big preview show with Nite Of Grudges fast approaching. Some specialty matches tonight to whet the fans appetite!
#1 Light Heavyweight contender Marty Jannetty b. Ron Hutchison Jannetty used a ROCKER DROPPER as Marty Party is ready for his Light-Heavyweight Title Ladder Match with Brian Christopher. Who can grab the gold from the ladder? Find out at Nite of Grudges!
Sheepherders W, DQ George South & Rock Riddle. The unorthodox Kiwis confused and frustrated this makeshift duo. Riddle brought in the flagpole with the New Zealand flag and jabbed Butch with it. While the referee called for the bell, Luke cleared the ring much to fans delight! South was not pleased with his partner as he wanted to duke it out with the Herders.
3-Way Meat Grinder featuring DDP, Buddy Rogers and Iron Sheik. A coin flip decided the matchups as Rogers was the odd man out so he started the match with DDP. The match is scheduled for three rounds, three minutes each. After three minutes of round 1, the Sheik would take the place of who was ahead on points. Points were earned for tossing over the ropes would earn 2 points, pin or submission attempts earn 2 points and a round would stop if a successful pin or submission occurred with the winner receiving a 4-0 score!
Round 1 - DDP earned 2 points by tossing Rogers over (2-0). Time expired without any scoring. Round 2 - Rogers tossed Sheik to earn two periods in the second round. Both Rogers and DDP entered the final round tied at 2 points apiece. Round 3 - Rogers captured 4 points in this round as he was in the meat grinder position by wrestling all three rounds. DDP and Sheik could not work together to earn any points before the final bell.
Winner - Buddy Rogers with 6 points, DDP earns 2 points and Iron Sheik with 0.
1st Intermission David Taylor b. Bill White, Wild Bill was no match for the precision of the smart Briton. The nobleman Taylor launched an Attack with Flagpole outside the ring and used a BRITISH SUPLEX inside for the pin.
Strong Man Challenge, Larry The Axe Hennig b, Nikolai Volkoff. The elder Hennig smashed the Russian with the AXE after connecting with move outside the ring. Volkoff was groggy from landing on the announcer table and was easy pickings for the finish.
2nd Gen Double Challenge - Curt Hennig b. Brad Armstrong. Hennig controlled this one as he wore down Brad with the Figure Four and used an Axe for the pin. Can the Armstrongs rally in the second leg of this double challenge?
Battle of Super Heavyweights -Bobo Brazil WDQ over King Kong Bundy. Bundy was vicious and out of control slamming Brazil into two ring posts. Medical staff helped Bobo to his feet, but a bloody Brazil tried to attack Bundy. Ringside officials and security separated them but Bundy is looking to prove he is the best big man in the AWA. These two have signed for a Nite of Grudges rematch.
2nd Intermission before the final set of BONUS Matches: 2G Tag Challenge - The Hennigs WDQ over The Armstrongs Brad was looking for payback but excessive double-teaming halted the 2nd leg of this challenge.
Masked Mayhem - Dark Invader over Masked Superstar with CORRUPTOR. The mysterious Invader walloped Superstar and earned a convincing win. Invader would love a shot at some of the other big men around the AWA.
Main Event, MARATHON MATCH, all falls count until one person cannot respond to pin roll.
Starboy over Piranha. The fan favorite was down 2-0 then took 7 of the final 9 falls to win 7-4! Awesome, match of the year candidate. Falls 1-2: PIRANHA CHOKE gave the Amazon a quick 2-0 lead. Fall 3: FLYING CROSS CHOP by Starboy started to stir up the crowd. Fall 4: A Missile Dropkick lead to COR as a befuddled Piranha saw the match tied 2-2 Fallls 5-6: Starboy continued to rely on his finishers using SOMERSAULT KICKs to take the lead 4-2 Fall 7: Double Stomp, got the Piranha back in the match to trail 4-3 Fall 8: The return of the Missile Dropkick gave Starboy a 5-3 lead. Fall 9 and 10: An Octopus Hold moved the match to 5-4 but led to a prompt DQ in Fall 10 as Starboy 6-4 lead. Piranha was getting desperate and tried to put Starboy on the shelf. Fall 11; Piranha could not capitalize on the injury with Starboy using FLYING CROSS CHOP as time expired to win 7-4 which concluded an AWESOME bout between two of the oldest rivals in 8MW.
A Standing Ovation for Starboy concluded the evening but there was some cheering and clapping out of respect for Piranha's efforts in the Marathon Match!
What an evening as we head to Nite of Grudges from the scenic New Jersey Meadowlands. Look for a special Wrestling News Bulletin with the complete lineup. See you at ringside from the Garden State!

Road Show at the famous Cow Palace with the California Stampede Battle Royal. The night before Bill Apter of the Wrestling News Bulletin announced the year-end award winners of his publication in the following categories: Wrestler of the Year - Lou Thesz Tag-Team of The Year - Midnight Express Match of the Year - "Battle of The Belts" as World Tag-Team Champions Midnight Express w/Jim Cornette defeated World Champion Lou Thesz and World Lightweight Champion. Here is a recap of this historic encounter at the Battle of Belts - Lou Thesz and Warhawk vs. Midnight Express with Jim Cornette. The event lived up to its hype as Thesz and Warhawk led off the match with a bang. A diving lariat laid a 2-count on Lane followed by a quick tag-in to Thesz, who had a near fall with the THESZ PRESS. Cornette threw a conniption after another THESZ PRESS as it looked like the belts were slipping away, but the resourceful champs kept it together. Eaton and Lane slowly climbed back into the match with their double-teaming. A ROCKET LAUNCHER on Warhawk led to a near-pin and a VEG-O-MATIC put it away as the champs squeaked by. What a match! Congratulations to all the winners as coincidentally, the top vote getters swept the categories. During the event clips of each award winner are shown in highlight packages. And now onto the action. . . Special Steel Cage Opener, Ultimate Escape Rules: The Flying Redheads b. The Vachon Bros. Mad Dog and Bastien escaped 1st & 2nd respectively leaving their bloodied partners to duke it out. Lyons used a Figure Four to weaken Butcher and then captured victory with a SLEEPERHOLD for the win! AWA Light Heavyweight Champion Brian Christopher b. Red Pirate Rogers. The champion is on a roll using the Full Nelson Facebuster to setup the HIP HOP DROP. AWA Tag-Team Champions, Jim Cornette's Midnight Express (Eaton & Lane) b. The Blade Blasters, Lazer & Buzzsaw. Eaton and Lane teamed up for a VEGOMATIC on Lazer to retain the straps as the Midnights double-teaming kept the bigger Blasters off balance. AWA Champion Randy Savage WDQ over Dude Brohan Controversy abound as the California Dude had Savage on the run, but when Savage tried to use the title belt outside the ring is when things got out of hand as the Dude blocked a shot and used the gold on Savage! Magnum TA won a 22-man "California Stampede" Battle Royal, last eliminating Jim Duggan. Both Duggan and Magnum had the highest number of eliminations as Duggan led the way with six along with Magnum's four accounted for half the field!
