A Billion Reasons...(A Tournament)... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Chapter 1)
(The scene is McDermott's Castle...a castle that was once owned by an Irish King...over eleven hundred years ago...
This round castle occupies three quarters of an island named...Castle Island...and this island sits within a small body of water named Lough Key...which so happens to fall within County Roscommon in Ireland...
5 years ago in 2014...a man (supposedly...with the same surname of McDermott)...purchased this island at an auction...for a mere 90,000 pounds...
He's an extremely wealthy man...big accent on extreme...with an insatiable penchant...for professional wrestling...among many other things...
Now in 2019...McDermott's Castle has been completely restored...and within the courtyard...a small...outdoor...wrestling arena has been constructed...complete with a modest circular seating capacity of about 200 people...
Underneath the 7 and a half foot thick round walled perimeter of the castle...32 solid stone bedrooms have been constructed...to accommodate the...guests...these rooms are all interconnected by a circular stone...torch lit passageway...
Inside of the castles main tower structure...resides all of the housekeeping, culinary and security staffs...as well as a top of the line...and a state of the art; large kitchen, dining hall and gymnasium complete with weights, running and rowing machines, full fitst aid/hospital care unit...and within the old Irish Kings chamber...high atop the tower...is the Commissioners chamber...
Far beneath this towered structure...down several flights of torch lit stairs is...The Owners Residence...(most of the staff refer to it on the sly as The Dungeon)...an incredibly large room...with not a single electronic instrument present...(as far as can be seen)...only a huge bed...couch...cushioned chairs surrounding a meeting table...and a writing desk...complete with quills, ink and actual parchment...the room is entirely candle-lit...
It is inside The Dungeon...where the story of this billion dollar tournament begins...
The Commissioner...has just entered The Owners Residence to give a final report...5 days before the tournament begins...)
Commissioner (clears his throat) - Sire...
Owner (stops writing for a moment) - So...tell me...
Commissioner - Well...the castle is now...fully operational...my liege...
Owner - Excellent...excellent...now without giving me too many details...tell me how the 24 invitations...were received...overall?
Commissioner - Sire...all 24 of the greatest wrestlers from the independent circuits have accepted...all have now signed the contracts...and all understand the conditions...no repeating match ups...and once you lose three matches...you are eliminated from the tournament...a Billion dollars to the winner...a Million dollars each to the losers...
Owner - Do you think...they...actually read...all of the contracts...that they signed...
Commissioner - Hard to tell sire...I would guess for the most part no...considering the very limited time that they were given...to accept and sign...
Owner - Well done...my friend well done...when this tournament is over...we will truly know who is...the best of the best...and I will be...at the very least...tripling my investment...by offering the greatest pay per view of all time...where people will get to know...what their favorite wrestlers are all...really like...inside the squared circle...and out...
Commissioner - Sire...there is one...unexpected turn of events...
Owner - Speak...
Commissioner - When the 24 offers were hand delivered...some of these wrestlers mentioned this tournament to some of their friends...all of whom were retired wrestlers...
Owner - Really...
Commissioner - These retired wrestlers...approached me at different times...during my meetings with the original 24...and I decided to shoot from the hip here...
Owner - So you...
Commissioner (finishing his sentence) - Told them that if they wish to compete...then they must blindly sign the contracts...
Owner - You have truly...outdone yourself...Bravo!...So tell me...
Commissioner - These retired wrestlers...were all once part of the...independent scene...as the 24 currently are...and some are definitely...Legends...
Owner - Splendid...I look forward to your morning reports...on everything from the night prior...from within the ring...and from all corners...of the island...
Commissioner - Certainly...your grace...
The upcoming 1st nights matches: ---------------------------------------------------------------
1. Sugar Dunkerton vs Brodie Lee 2. Jigsaw vs Sabu 3. Homicide vs A.J. Styles 4. Adam Pearce vs Tyler Black

A Billion Reasons...(A Tournament)... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Chapter 2)
1st night of matches: -----------------------------------------
1. Sugar Dunkerton vs Brodie Lee 2. Jigsaw vs Sabu 3. Homicide vs A.J. Styles 4. Adam Pearce vs Tyler Black
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(The scene is from within the candle lit Owners Residence...aka The Dungeon...The Owner is dressed in a black hooded robe...and The Commissioner has just sat down at The Owners desk guest chair...):
Commissioner - Sire...I have the results on all of last night's...activities...
Owner (pours himself and The Commissioner a tumbler full of some very bold looking...whiskey) - To your...health...my friend...
Commissioner (noticably suprised at it's potency) - Very powerfull stuff...where is this from?...
Owner - Aethra...
Commissioner - Huh...is that in one of those...slavic countries?...
Owner (with a slight smile) - Something like that...So...tell me...
Commissioner - Right...so...
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
1. Brodide Lee defeated Sugar Dunkerton via Pinfall courtesy of his BIG BOOT finisher at the 9 minute mark...
Owner - Interesting...what would you say was...most intriguing...about this contest?
Commissioner - Well...for one of our...so called "court jesters"...Sugar Dunkerton seemed extremely more fired up...than usual...he came out very strong...against Brodie Lee...and because of a pre-match pep talk...from Jay Lethal...he went for a quick win with his Knee-Lift Urange...
Owner - What did Lethal say to him...exactly?...
Commissioner - Courtesy of the microphones hidden in the arena seating...Lethal convinced Dunkerton to not just...survive and be happy with an 0 - 3 record...en route to settling for the million dollars...but to maintain his self respect...and at least to give it his best shot...which appeared to work because Dunkerton nearly pulled out an upset...
Owner (takes a sip of whiskey) - Touching...and what of Brodie Lee?
Commissioner - Well...once Brodie Lee got his feet under him...he ragdolled Dunkerton into oblivion...though...also to note is...for some odd reason...Lee hasn't said a single word...since he arrived here...to anyone...
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
2. Sabu defeated Jigsaw via Pinfall courtesy of his Slingshot Leg Drop at the 12 minute mark...
Owner - Lots of high flying action...I take it?
Commissioner - Well...through the first half of the match...they were so evenly matched...and countered each other so well...it was a tough one to call...until Sabu outsmarted Jigsaw...
Owner - How?
Commissioner - After Sabu duped Jigsaw...into colliding with the ring post...the impact proved to be the turning point...as Jigsaw had injured one of his legs...Sabu took over and...although Jigsaw kicked out a few times...the damage had ultimately...been done...
Owner - Anything else...going on with these two?...
Commissioner - According to the drones and the bugs in their rooms...Jigsaw is definitely in cahoots with Mike Quackenbush here at the tournament...and they possibly share some other motive as well...we are still reviewing the recordings...
Owner - I see...
Commissioner - And...true to form Sabu still doesn't say anything...however...he has made several jestures....
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
3. A.J. Styles defeated Homicide via Pinfall courtesy of his STYLES CLASH finisher at the 12 minute mark...
Owner - So how action packed...was that match?
Commissioner - It was pretty much all over the place...they were both busted open...Styles dictated the pace for the most part...until a desperate Homicide...came back via a double knee to Styles head...as Styles had attempted to Back Body Drop Homicide...
Owner - Did Hiomicide snap?...
Commissioner - At that point yes...he mangled up Styles face with a steel fork and executed his DA GRINGO FINISHER for a very near fall...but soon outside the ring...Styles put him through a table and then rolled him back...inside the ring...executed his Pele Kick which spun Homicides head a good 45 degrees...and that set up Styles's finisher...
Owner - What else?...
Commissioner - From what one of the drones video recorded...whatever Styles wins here...he's donating 90% of it to Alcoholics Anonymous...says he has his reasons...
Owner - Really?...
Commissioner - Yep...and in as far as Homicide goes...he's looking to get exceptionally quote and quote...medieval...on everyone he faces...
Owner - Nice...
Commissioner - One of the maids overheard Homicide saying...that Homicides wife ran off on him...with someone else...there was a lot of whispers amongst the other wrestlers in the stands during the matches...but curiously...Sabu was smiling throughout Homicides entire match with Styles...and was even smiling before the topic ever came up...by the other wrestlers...
Owner (smiling) - Do you think Sabu knows something?
Commissioner - Could be sire...from what I've seen...this man Sabu just...never...smiles...ever...
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
4. Tyler Black defeated Adam Pearce via Pinfall courtesy of his PHOENIX SPLASH primary finisher (With A Handfull Of Tights) at the 9 minute mark...
Owner - Was this bout...as interesting as Homicide & Styles?...
Commissioner - No sire...however it did have it's moments...after Black attacked Pearce before the bell...he went for a quick victory via his Running Shooting Star Press, forcing a visibly wounded Pearce to retreat outside the ring...however it was a sham...Pearce unloaded on Black with a dozen right and left hooks...as soon as he got within reach of Pearce outside the ring...
Owner - I like that...all the camera work was spot on?...
Commissioner - Spot on...after that...Pearce tossed Black back into the ring...and came within a hair of a victory...with a Superfly Splash that would even...have made Snuka proud...but after that...Black rebounded and took him apart...capping it off with an F5...into his finisher...
Owner - By hook...or by crook...Black takes it...so...what else...is up with these two?...
Commissioner - Well...from what we've recorded on Pearce...he's here out of retirement...to prove primarily to himself...as well as a few of his critics...that he's still got it...
Owner - Alright...
Commissioner - Black is far more interesting...we have proof of an agreement between Tyler Black...and Michael Elgin...they are going to split The Billion 50/50...if either one of them...wins the tournament...
Owner (takes another sip of Aethran whiskey) - That is interesting...
Commissioner - Black has also become...the loudest of...and a spokesman for...the wrestlers who are outraged that...not only can they not leave the island...until the tournament is won...all cellphones have been confiscated...and there's no internet access...allowed to them...
Owner - It was all in...the overly complicated and wordy contracts...that they signed...they are all...off the grid...
Commissioner - True...sire...
Owner - Absolutely...wondeful work...my friend...
(Note: At this point...as The Commissioner made his way out of..."The Dungeon"...he thought to himself about The Owner..."No one...is more off the grid...than he is"...and despite his getting completely wrapped up...in all the excitement of the tournament...as well as all the work that he has done personally...under the direction of The Owner...The Commissioner is just now...starting to wonder...is The Owner just...really off the grid because of his obvious eccentricities?...or is there...another reason?...).

I truly thank you for those kind words man! Totally stoked that it's worth the read! This is a tournament where I really wanted to breathe a little life into all the participants as well as to reveal several plots and subplots as we go. I'm really trying something very different (for me) in as far as anything that I've ever posted before. Really appreciate you being in the seats on this island my friend! What made me try this was about 2 weeks ago I saw Enter The Dragon with Bruce Lee for the first time in a long time. Very glad the mystery is enjoyable my friend, theres more on it's way. Thanks again man!
