Today for my first time since moving to Las Vegas almost 20 years ago, I went on the Vegas Mob Tour.
Some of the stops/highlights of the tour:
1) the Bugsy Siegel Memorial at the Flamingo.
Siegal is the one who opened The Flamingo which was the first major casino alongside what later became The Strip (Siegal reportedly called the place the Flamingo after his girlfriend Virginia Hill as he often said she was his flamingo due to having long legs.) The memorial I never saw (even though I was in the Flamingo as recently as last Frday night) before as it is hard to find- outside near the pool area as it stands in the exact spot below from where his personal suite was ocated lin the original version of The Flamingo prior to renovations. Betters at the Flamingo supposedly have better luck if they rub Siegal's head on the memorial first.
2) the intersection (Flamingo and Koval) where Tupac Shakur was killed in 1996.
There is a light pole there covered in graffiti and signatures in memorandum to Tupac Shakur
3) the house from the movie Casino where Lefty Rosenthal (played by Robert DeNiro) lived, pictured below
4) the jewelry store from the famous Hole in the Wall gang July 4th burglary. It is locatd on my street Sahara just across fron where I saw the SFP wrestling show later in the night after going to Double or Nothing. I did not know it was that jewlery store until today.
5) The site of the attempted car bombing assassination of Lefty Rosenthal. This assassination attempt was reinacted both at the start of the movie Casino and also later in the movie when the film got to that point chronologically and it actually happened in the parking lot for a Tony Romo's. But as you can see in the picture I took below (from the exact parking space of the assassination attempt,) that Tony Romo's is now a Hustler store.
During the tour, the tour guide found out I lived here in Las Vegas and that I both have a Masters of History degree and teach History for a living. After the tour, he bought me a Sprite and some pizza and said he might have a part time job for me as a tour guide both doing the Vegas Mob Tour- he told me I already look the part of a gangster lol- and the upcoming Las Vegas History Tour, but that does nots tarts until the end of the Summer. It is not "an offer I can't refuse" though. If it was only seasonal such as the Summer when I am not already working, I would automatically say yes. I was told the job hours are flexible (it would really depend on how flexible though as I told him there are many weekends I go out of town- I intend to keep on going to PWG etc.) But with the curriculum changing for both classes I teach, I probably will not look into this potential job offer (at least at this time.) While I really appreciate the offer, I am just more interested in a job during the Summer than a second job during the school year as I already am getting my annual raise plus another 3% raise plus a prep buy for next year anyway.
