After some time away from the game (welcoming Twins to the family will do that) I have found the time to start again. Here are the results from my first card.
Card #1: January 7, 2009. North Attleboro, Witschi's Sports Arena
Road Warriors over The Sandman & Ox Baker by disqualification when Sandman rammed Hawk's face into the steel rails by the fans. Solid match with Baker and Sandman hanging in with the LWF's top team.
Jimmy & Johnny Valiant over The Last of the Famous International Playboys. The Valiant Brothers dominated the match. Jimmy blasts Brutus Beefcake with a foreign object to set up the SUPER ELBOW.
Jimmy Snuka over Buddy Rose. Rose managed to bloody Snuka during the brief offense he managed to get in. SUPERFLY LEAP gave Snuka the win.
Killer Kowalski over Bobo Brazil. Great back and forth match. Kowalski survived a pair of COCO BUTTS before tossing Brazil off the buckles to the mat. Kowalski applied the FACE CLAW and Brazil blacks out inches from the ropes.
Dick Hutton over Buddy Rogers by disqualification. Hutton went move for move with the Nature Boy. With the tokens tied at 6, Rogers trapped Hutton in the ropes and refused to let him out when the referee stepped in. Rogers shoved the referee to the mat and was disqualified.
Frank Gotch over Iron Sheik w/Nikita Breznikov Gotch was busted open mid way through the match and had to overcome the interference of Breznikov before pinning Sheik after an Iowa backdrop.
Harley Race & Nick Bockwinkel over The Destroyer & Giant Baba Bockwinkel is frustrated by Baba's size but Race is able to get into the ring against Destroyer and takes over the match getting the pin following a pair of PILEDRIVERS.

Thanks Tman....
The LWF will head into the Capital Center next week. The card will feature the eight man tournament to determine the first LWF Champion. Here is the line up:
Nick Bockwinkel struggled this past week but is still the top seed in the tournament. His opponent is Dick Hutton, who is coming off a huge upset DQ win over Nature Boy Buddy Rogers.
For the second straight week, Harley Race will be on the opposite side to the ring from Giant Baba, this time in singles action.
Iron Sheik looks to rebound from a tough loss this week when he faces Buddy Rogers who is also looking to improve on this weeks result.
In the final first round match, Frank Gotch squares off against The Destroyer. Both these guys can wrestle so this should be a classic.
Can't wait to roll this card!
I am predicting Bockwinkel to rebound without too much difficulty and face Race in the semi-finals with Race going onto the final bout. Gotch and Rogers will be a five star semi-final bout with Rogers advancing only to lose to Race in the finals due in large part to fatigue from battling Sheik & Gotch in the opening rounds.

Card #2: January 14, 2009. Landover, MD – Capital Center
LWF Title Tournament – Quarterfinals
Match 1: Nick Bockwinkel (1) v. Dick Hutton (8) Hutton turned some heads lasts week with an impressive disqualification victory over Nature Boy Buddy Rogers and picked up right where he left off frustrating the top seed of the tournament with power moves. Bockwinkel finally manages to string together a series of offensive moves but cannot put Hutton away with a BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER. A back suplex very nearly gives Bockwinkel the win before the match spills to the floor. Bockwinkel lets his frustration get the best of him and he shovess the referee to the floor during the brawl at ringside and is disqualified. The top seed is out of the tournament in shocking fashion! **1/2
Match 2: Giant Baba (4) v. Harley Race (5) Media from Japan cover the action from ringside. Although on opposite sides in tag team action last week, Race and Baba were never in the ring together. The crowd is on fire knowing that these two have traded World Titles in the past. The match consists of both men trading counter after counter with the occasion stab a victory by Race. Twice Baba kicks out after a PILEDRIVER and twice he kicks out after a vertical suplex. Race uses a 3rd PILEDRIVER to advance to the next round. Baba is never able to get Race in a pinning position. **1/2
Match 3: Buddy Rogers (2) v. The Iron Sheik w/Nikita Breznikov (7) Rogers is easily one of the most hated wrestlers in the LWF but the fans back him in this one booing Sheik out of the building. Rogers is all over Sheik and only the interference of Breznikov saves a bloody Sheik from a FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE. Sheik comes back loading up his boot and soon Rogers is wearing the crimson mask as well. With his token count at 8, Rogers finally is able to use his agility to turn the match ending it with a FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE. *** ½
Match 4: Frank Gotch (3) v. The Destroyer (6) Handshake starts the action. The fans show their appreciation. Gotch can do no wrong against the Destroyer early on scoring multiple near falls. Destroyer grabs the ropes to escape a GOTCH TOE HOLD. Destroyer uses his power to block a body slam and takes over the match. Gotch escapes two FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCKS but a 3rd is too much and Gotch submits sending Destroyer into the next round. ** ½
Jimmy Snuka is interviewed by Bill Apter on the Hotseat. Snuka’s head is still bandaged after his bloody battle with Buddy Rose last week. Superfly cuts a passionate promo promising to run Rose out of the LWF.
LWF Title Tournament – Semi-Finals
Match 5: Dick Hutton (8) v. Harley Race (5) Hutton would not enjoy the power advantage in this match that was key to his pervious two victories this year. It does not matter. Hutton continues to impress matching Race move for move for several minutes. Plenty of “into the ropes” action which keeps the match moving at a quick pace. The match ends when Race drags Hutton to the floor and whips him shoulder first into the steel ring post and is disqualified. Hutton incredible run continues. Will it end in championship gold? **
Buddy Rogers (2) v. The Destroyer (6) Rogers head is bandaged covering the lacerations sustained in his opening round war with the Iron Sheik. Mixed reaction from the fans. Both men looked fatigued from the opening bell. They exchange moves for several minutes before Destroyer blocks a backdrop with a piledriver. Destroyer immediately applies the FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK and is through to the finals. *
Match 7: Red Bastien v. Nikolai Volkoff w/Nikita Breznikov Classic match up of the speedy face against the powerful heel. Volkoff sings the Russian Anthem drawing huge heat. It is all Volkoff from the bell. Breznikov distracts the referee allowing Volkoff to ram Bastien’s face into the steel rails busting him open. Bastien makes his comeback after avoiding a knee to the gut. Volkoff eats the steel ring post and is soon a bloody mess. The crowd is on fire when Bastien comes off the top of the turnbuckles onto Volkoff at ringside. A spinning neckbreaker (ch) puts Volkoff down for the count but Breznikov interferes. Bastien clothesline Breznikov and then takes Volkoff out with a flying body press for the three count. **
LWF Title Tournament – Finals
Match 8: The Destroyer (6) v. Dick Hutton (8) Handshake starts the match. Commissioner Cox is seated at ringside ready to present the LWF Title to the winner of the bout. Hutton is able to frustrate Destroyer in the ring so Destroyer adapts his attack and takes the fight to Hutton at ringside. The fans turn on Destroyer when he bloodies Hutton ramming Hutton’s face first into the steel rails. Destroyer focuses in on Hutton’s leg ramming it off the ring post. A single leg Boston Crab nearly ends the match but Hutton grabs the ropes. Hutton cannot escape a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK and Destroyer is the first LWF champion! Commissioner Cox presents The Destroyer with the title belt. **

Congratulations to The Destroyer! Commissioner Cox has announced The Destroyer’s first title defense will take place on February 4th in Springfield MA. His opponent will be the man he beat to win the Title Tournament, Dick Hutton. The remaining tickets for the Civic Center Exhibit Hall quickly sold out when the announcement was made.
We are just a few short days away from the next LWF event which comes to you from the Philadelphia Arena and will feature the eight team tournament to decide the first LWF Tag Team Champions! The tournament will feature the Valiant Brothers, The Valentines, The Last of the Famous International Playboys, Sandman & Ox Baker, Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff, Ted DiBiase & Virgil and the Road Warriors. The team of Giant Baba & The Destroyer was also scheduled to participate but with Destroyer winning the LWF Title, he has withdrawn from the tournament as LWF by-laws prohibit a wrestler from holding more than one title at one time. It is unknown at this time whether Baba will find a new partner or whether a new team will be announced prior to the event.

Thanks again Tman.
With less than 24 hours to go, Commissioner Cox has made a decision regarding the last team to be included in the LWF Tag Team Title Tournament. Giant Baba will not be permitted to pick a new partner. Instead, the team of Harley Race and Nick Bockwinkel have been added to the tournament as the 2nd seed.
Here are the opening round brackets then
Road Warriors v. Sandman & Ox Baker Greg & Johnny Valentine v. Jimmy & Johnny Valiant Harley Race & Nick Bockwinkel v. Ted DiBiase & Virgil Last of the International Playboys v. Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff
Should be a solid night of action.

Card #3: January 21, 2009. Philadelphia, PA – The Arena
LWF Tag Team Title Tournament – Quarterfinals
Match 1: Road Warriors (1) v. Ox Baker & The Sandman (8) This is a rematch from two weeks ago when the Warriors came out on top via disqualification. Huge pop for The Sandman from his hometown fans. Hawk dominates Baker downing him with a pair of running clotheslines. Sandman makes the save and is the official man in the ring moments later against Animal. Sandman crushes Animal with a pair of SINGAPORE CANE shots while Baker distracts the referee. 1, 2, 3, the top seeded tag team is out of the tournament in a huge upset. The crowd explodes for The Sandman. * ½
Match 2: Greg & Johnny Valentine (4) v. Jimmy & Johnny Valiant (5) The Valiant Brothers work the crowd drawing fantastic heat. Greg Valentine starts against Jimmy Valiant and works over Valiant with a series of tackles and slams. Twice Valiant can tag out but decides not to. This is a costly error as Valentine stuns Valiant with a falling elbow hammer and makes the pin moments later while Johnny Valentine ties up Johnny Valiant in the corner. (dud)
Match 3: Harley Race & Nick Bockwinkel (2) v. Ted DiBiase & Virgil (7) DiBiase attempts to buy off Bockwinkel and Race before the bell but Race is insulted by the offer and attacks DiBiase before the bell. It is all Race in and out of the ring. Race’s deathjump takes out the referee. Race attempts to revive the official allowing Virgil to blast Race with a pair of brass knuckles. Race is out cold. The referee recovers as DiBiase covers for the three count while Virgil tangles with Bockwinkel. *1/2
Match 4: Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff (6) w/Nikita Breznikov v. The Last of the Famous International Playboys (3) The heat for Sheik & Volkoff is off the charts. Brutus Beefcake looks good against Volkoff but Sheik turns things around with an abdominal stretch. Sheik nails Beefcake across the back with a chair shot at ringside before applying a CAMEL CLUTCH. Beefcake is able to break free but Sheik applies the hold again and there is no escape for Beefcake. Volkoff blocks Buff Bagwell from making the save and the match is over. *
LWF Champion The Destroyer is Bill Apter’s guest on the hotseat. Destroyer cuts an entertaining promo calling having to make his first title defense against Dick Hutton an insult to someone with his intelligence.
LWF Tag Team Title Tournament – Semi-Finals
Match 5: Ox Baker & The Sandman (8) v. Greg & Johnny Valentine (4) Another pop for Sandman during the introductions. Baker is a powerhouse against Greg Valentine. Baker downs a bloody Valentine with a HEART PUNCH but Valentine kicks out at 2 ¾. Valentine survives a SINGAPORE CANE shot to tag his father into the match. Johnny Valentine never allows Sandman to tag out and punishes Sandman with a series of ATOMIC SKULLCRUSHERS. Sandman proves tough to beat with his fatigue tokens reaching 8 before a final ATOMIC SKULLCRUSHER puts his down for the three count while Greg Valentine blocks Ox Baker from making the save. ** ½
Match 6: Ted DiBiase & Virgil (7) v. Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff w/Nikita Breznikov (6) Great heat for both teams but Sheik & Volkoff are clearly the more hated of the two teams. Great back and forth action. Breznikov distracts the referee midway through the match saving Sheik from a MILLION DOLLAR SLEEPER. DiBiase is a force in the match with Virgil being able to sustain the momentum. DiBiase gets tangled in the ropes and Sheik attacks with punches and bites DiBiase. The referee steps in but Sheik shoves the official to the mat starting a wild brawl in the ring. Sheik and Volkoff dominate but the referee disqualifies Sheik sending DiBiase & Virgil to the finals. ***
Match 7: Red Bastien v. Gorgeous George w/Cherie Dupré George walks the red carpet tossing out Georgie pins drawing great heat. Dupré sprays the ring. Nearly ten minutes later, the bell sounds. Bastien quickly flings George to the floor with a flying head scissors and follows him out starting a crazy brawl. George nails Bastien in the stomach with chair shot and the referee calls for the bell ending the bout after three move! The crowd hates the call. (dud)
LWF Tag Team Title Tournament - Finals
Match 8: Greg & Johnny Valentine (4) v. Ted DiBiase & Virgil (7) DiBiase attempts to pay off the Valentines before the match. Greg Valentine shoves Virgil aside and tears into DiBiase. The action goes back and forth but the Valentines set the pace. Twice DiBiase kicks out of pin attempts by both Johnny and Greg Valentine during the match but Johnny finally puts DiBiase away with a forearm hammer. Virgil jumps into the ring but Valentine is ready with a noggin knocker and then covers DiBiase for the pin. Commissioner Cox presents Johnny & Greg Valentine with the LWF Tag Team Titles. **1/2

With the United States Title Tournament just days away, Commissioner Cox has made the controversial decision to take the decision of selecting the tournament participants out of the hands of the LWF Championship Committee. The task of selecting the eight participants has been given to Toronto based journalist John F. Molinaro, author of Top 100 Pro Wrestlers of All Time. Molinaro was quick to respond to the Commissioner’s request and selected the following participants Giant Baba Buddy Rogers Frank Gotch Gorgeous George Nick Bockwinkel Johnny Valentine Harley Race Bobo Brazil
Since Johnny Valentine is a co-holder of the Tag Team Titles with his son, Commissioner Cox returned to Molinaro and requested another participant. Killer Kowalski was chosen and the official title tournament brackets look like this:
Giant Baba v. Killer Kowalski Gorgeous George v. Nick Bockwinkel Buddy Rogers v. Bobo Brazil Frank Gotch v. Harley Race
Commission Cox continues to shake things up in the LWF
