Match 1: The Last of the International Playboys v. Johnny & Jimmy Valiant
Great swagger from the Valiant Brothers drawing classic heat. Despite their losing record, the Playboys continue to be over with the fans at the LWF arena. Johnny scoop slams Brutus Beefcake to open the match and then tosses Beefcake to the floor. Valiant rams Beefcake’s face into the steel rails by the fans busting him open. The bell sounds at 0:32 and Valiant has been disqualified. Both team brawl back to the dressing room after the bell.
Match 2: Gorgeous George w/Cherie Dupré v. Ilio Dipaolo
After last card’s hard fought loss against George, Dipaolo demanded a rematch. George tosses out Georgie Pins to the crowd drawing huge heat. Several minutes later, George is finally ready to come out of his corner and start the match. The crowd cheers every move from Dipaolo. Interference by valet turns the match. George goes up to the top for a deathjump… into Dipaolo’s boot! AIRPLANE SPIN. 1, 2, shoulder up. Running head ram into the buckles sets up a second AIRPLANE SPIN but George kicks out again. Big right hands sprawls George to the floor. Dipaolo climbs the buckles and falls onto George at ringside! The crowd explodes. Back inside, rope climb headlock takeover for a 2 count. Body slam at ringside! George stops Dipaolo’s attack catching him on the top of the buckles and knocking him to the mat. It is back and forth now. Gorgeous Grip slows down the action and George executes a small package hooking the tights for the three count at 6:14 (Snake Eyes!). Huge heat as George is announced as the winner for the second card in a row.
Match 3: Ted DiBiase & Virgil v. Dick Hutton & The Sandman
After battling last card in singles action, these four men hook up for tag team action. DiBiase pays a fan to polish his boots drawing huge heat. Both teams function well together and the action goes back and forth. Sandman sends DiBiase into the ropes and DiBiase counters a clothesline with one of his own. DiBiase recovers first and tosses Sandman to the floor. DiBiase refuses to follow Sandman outside and then ends the match moments later with a MILLION DOLLAR SLEEPER at 2:52.
Match 4: Nikolai Volkoff w/Nikita Breznikov v. Road Warrior Hawk
The war for the Tag Team Titles returns to singles action tonight. Volkoff belts out the Russian Anthem. Classic heat from ringside. Back and forth power moves. Hawk scores two with a running clothesline and Volkoff picks up a near fall with a throat drop on the ropes. Volkoff blocks a falling double hammer at ringside before punishing Hawk with a Russian Bear Hug. A BACKBREAKER DROP ends it at 1:10.
Match 5: Nick Bockwinkel v. Red Bastien
Third card in a row these two have battled with Bockwinkel turning up the heat last with some questionable tactics. No handshake at the bell and the action quickly spills to the floor. Bockwinkel takes control outside and traps Bastien in a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK. Bastien makes it to the ropes to force the break. A piledriver forces Bastien to the floor. Bastien trips up Bockwinkel and drags Bockwinkel to the floor. Bockwinkel eats the ring post and the bell sounds. Bastien is disqualified at 0:50 but he continues to beat on a bloody Bockwinkel at ringside. Security arrives and pulls Bastien off of Bockwinkel. Bastien breaks free and gets at Bockwinkel again before Bockwinkel stumbles from ringside.
Match 6: Giant Baba v. Harley Race
Media from Japan surround the ring anticipating a classic. Handshake starts the action and the fans show their appreciation. Back and forth countering from both men. A pair of swinging neckbreakers gives Race the first near fall. Later, Race takes flight but misses a deathjump smash giving Baba a near fall of his own. It is back and forth and Baba sends Race into the ropes and connects with a chop followed up with a NECKBREAKER DROP for a 2 ½ count. Baba rams Race’s face into the rails and the blood is flowing. NECKBREAKER DROP for another two count. Race cannot kick out after a third NECKBREAKER DROP and drops his second straight match at 7:13.
Match 7: Road Warrior Animal v. Iron Sheik w/Nikita Breznikov
Sheik is all over the fans with his pre-match mic work. Animal goes on the attack at ringside leaving Sheik a bloody mess. The crowd loves it. POWERSLAM for a 2 count. Animal continues to dominate including another POWERSLAM and flying shoulder ram for a pair of near falls. Nikita Breznikov joins the action brawling with Animal allowing Sheik to attack the Road Warrior from behind. Animal powers out of a CAMEL CLTUCH. Animal kicks out after a spinning neckbreaker. The match goes back and forth. Sheik loads up his boot and Animal is quickly a blood mess. Both men are brawling at ringside. The referee has lost control and calls for the double disqualification at 7:02. The action continues after the bell. Road Warrior Hawk and Nikolai Volkoff join the battle and this time it is the Warriors who clean house. DOOMSDAY DEVICE for Breznikov. Volkoff drags Breznikov from the ring and the Foreign Legion retreats to the back.
Match 8: LWF Title Match – Buddy Rogers (ch) v. Frank Gotch
Great heat for Rogers as he struts for the fans at ringside. It is Gotch who is the aggressor early on and it is Gotch who makes use of the chair paying back Rogers from two cards ago with a chair shot to the leg. A rolling knee bar inflicts further damage. Rogers battles back and the action evens out. A piledriver gives Rogers his first near fall and the Nature Boy is able to catch Gotch with a running slingshot in the corner. Gotch is stunned and Rogers capitalizes with a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK to retain the title at 3:59.
With so many competitors injured and/or under suspension, I was banking on Gotch taking the title back tonight setting up a long run of bouts between Gotch and Rogers that would carry the Fed through this hard time. The dice did not cooperate and Rogers will be looking for fresh challenge on Card #8. However, the Road Warriors – Foreign Legion feud continues to grow in intensity and just might be strong enough to hold up the LWF until the full roster is once again available. Harley Race continues to slip and Giant Baba continues to bubble just under the top of the contenders list. Red Basiten showed he can take things to the extreme tonight and his issues with Nick Bockwinkel appear to be a long way from being resolved.
