This weekend, I booked a matchup which I had anticipated would be a real barn-burner of a main event. Unfortunately, the dice did not cooperate, and instead it finished as little more than a squash. Bummer!
But it got me thinking. And after some consideration, I determined that it is entirely possible for a match to end on the very first move. Granted, it is extremely unlikely. To have the shortest possible match requires a few particular criteria from the wrestlers involved, and a bit of good (and bad) luck from the participants.
1) The victorious wrestler must have a Move-3 on his level-one offense. Only a select group of strong offensive wrestlers have this.
2) The losing wrestler must have a PIN rating of 2 or higher. While this kind of spectacular upset is largely dependent on terrible rolling, some of the most elite wrestlers are safe from this humiliation due to their 4(1) PIN ratings.
3) The victorious wrestler must roll his/her Move-3, which is most likely a roll of 6. Odds of 1/6
4) The losing wrestler must roll the number coinciding with his/her PIN, which is a 1/6 odds again. For both of these events to occur, would be a 1/36 chance.
5) The losing wrestler must then roll the Pinfall. On the very first move there would be no modifiers, so it is going to have to roll under the written PIN rating. For most wrestlers, this is a 6(3). On a straight 2d6 roll, there is merely a 3/36 or 1/12 odds.
I'm not great at probabilities, but I think that means it could only happen once in 432 qualifying matches!
So I ask you, promoters, has anyone ever experiences this insanely improbable occurrence? Has anyone every stomped their opponent flat on the very first move? Was it a shocking upset? If so, how did you handle it in your booking?
