I watched half of a game. For someone who hasn't even watched NFL for about 20 years, it was hard for me to follow. What is the comparitive standard? I'm guessing it's lower than college football? There were some fairly out of shape defensivbe linemen as well. The NFL employs roughly 1800 players. This is the talent level immediately below that. The XFL is betting the public has an insatiable appetite for any football post-Super Bowl. They're probably wrong about that.

I’ve adopted the Washington Defenders as my XFL team. Now just need to get some gear once it’s fully re stocked. Love their uniforms!

So in 'soccer' terms, it's probably the equivilant of English 'non-league.' Jeez.

I think the XFL has abandoned the idea of being an alternative to the NFL and instead a complimentary product that could act as a developmental league and could test out new rules that the NFL could later adopt.

I think you may be right about that. It's not a bad thing to have a place for guys to play, similar to the minor leagues in baseball, to help gain the attention of NFL scouts. I have to say I love the extra point rules in the XFL and I feel the NFL should think about changing to that format. The extra point kick has become a bore really. At any rate I have enjoyed the XFL games that I have watched thus far. It is much better than the original extreme version.

It's what it needs to be to survive. They're not going to compete with the NFL so why not be its feeder league to get guys experience, try out new ideas (the NBA and MLB already do this with theirs) and give some guys a chance to move up to the big leagues.

I have found the first 2 weeks to be very enjoyable. Will it ever unseat the NCAA or NFL....clearly no, but it is a great distraction during this time of year when the only sports that appear to be on in any regularity on Saturday and Sunday is basketball (NCAA / NBA). Yes, I know there is hockey and other sports, but there is so much college basketball that I appreciate the football.
