Sparks. Lasers. Smoke. Explosions. And a pulsing theme...
Yeah, I get it, you're an outcast, always under attack,
Always coming in last, bringing up the past,
No one owes you anything!
I think you need a shotgun blast, a kick in the ass,
So paranoid, watch your back!
Oh my, here we go...The Fantastics vs. The SheepherdersReferee: James Beard
* The match started out evenly, with each side making multiple tags, but unable to secure a meaningful advantage.
* Several minutes in, the Sheepherders isolated Bobby Fulton in their corner and worked him over badly--until he made a hot tag to his partner, Tommy Rogers.
* Rogers took the fight to both Sheepherders before tossing Butch Miller out of the ring so he and Fulton could hit their PRESS SLAM SPLASH on Luke Williams for the win.
WINNER: The Fantastics via pinfall (10:36) *
Bill Apter's Hot Seat with special guest CWA World Champion "Handsome" Harley Race * Before Apter could ask any of his trademarked probing questions, Race took over the interview, saying that he had beaten everyone the CWA put in his way.
* Race claimed that no one on the roster deserved a shot at his title.
You know it's the MacMilitant...
Coming to get it on...
* "Genie" Teddy Long danced out from the back, telling Race that he had come out, "to grant your wish, playa!"
* He went on to say that he could not argue with Race: maybe there was no one on the roster that deserved a title shot.
* That being the case, Long said he would bring someone in from
off the roster to challenge Race at
Last Stand in Salt Lake City on June 8th. "Now hit my music!"
* Race angrily kicked the bottom rope while the GM strutted and strolled all the way to the back.
Larry Zbyszko vs. "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers (with JJ Dillon)Referee: Dick Woehrle
* The two enemies came to blows before Gary Michael Cappetta could even begin his ring introductions.
* While Zbyszko's desire for revenge fueled an early onslaught, Rogers eventually began to turn the tide.
* Zbyszko absorbed a great deal of punishment before bouncing out of the corner with a clothesline and immediately planting Rogers with a PILEDRIVER.
* Incredibly, Rogers kicked out at one!
* A furious exchange of choke holds, eye gouges, face rakes, and closed fists followed while referee Dick Woehrle objected for all he was worth.
* Rogers went for a low blow, but Zbyszko caught his foot and set him up for another PILEDRIVER, which Rogers could not withstand (especially with Woehrle's fast count).
WINNER: Larry Zbyszko via pinfall (12:50) ***½
Post-Match Drama * After the match, JJ Dillon called for backup, and Tully Blanchard rushed down the aisle.
* Nick Bockwinkel was close behind, and he wound up catching up to Blanchard and taking him down from behind.
* Bockwinkel joined Zbyszko in the ring and the two men hoisted Rogers up, planting him with a savage spike piledriver.
* Blanchard finally made his way into the ring and Zbyszko and Bockwinkel left the ring, but Rogers was still motionless on the mat.
Stan "the Lariat" Hansen & the Crusher vs. the Iron Sheik & "the Russian Bear" Ivan KoloffReferee: Joey Marella
* From the very beginning of the match, Koloff and the Sheik displayed incredible teamwork.
* The rulebreakers dominated the Crusher for several minutes, and then kept the Lariat down once he managed to make a tag.
* Out of nowhere, Hansen took the advantage with a massive hanging vertical suplex on Koloff.
* While the Crusher discussed the weather with Joey Marella, Hansen clocked Koloff with his cowbell.
* While the Sheik protested loudly, Hansen came off the ropes with a huge LARIAT that turned Koloff inside out and put him on the mat.
WINNER: Stan "the Lariat" Hansen & the Crusher via pinfall (13:32) **½
Curt Hennig vs. "Mr. Perfect" Ricky Steamboat (with Bobby "the Brain" Heenan)Referee: Danny Davis
* Steamboat offered a handshake before the opening bell, and Hennig naturally refused.
* While he was distracted by the offer, however, Steamboat kicked him savagely between the legs and went on the attack while Danny Davis called for the bell.
* Steamboat got careless and ate a slap across the face for his trouble, sparking a spurt of offense by Hennig.
* A double thrust to Hennig's throat brought that to an end, and a piledriver and figure four leg lock left Hennig in big trouble.
* Steamboat hoisted a battered Hennig up with his DOUBLE CHICKEN WING and that gave Mr. Perfect the win.
WINNER: "Mr. Perfect" Ricky Steamboat (4:55) *
CWA Holovision Championship Tournament Finals: Randy "Macho Man" Savage (with Cherie Dupré) vs. Tully Blanchard (with JJ Dillon)Referee: Morgan Dollar
* What started out evenly became a one-sided beatdown when JJ Dillon distracted the referee, allowing Blanchard to smash Savage with a steel chair.
* Blanchard through everything he could at the Macho Man, but could not keep him down.
* Blanchard made a big mistake in climbing to the top rope; Savage intercepted him and tossed him to the mat.
* It was all academic from there, as Savage beat his opponent from pillar to post and put him away with a FLYING ELBOW DROP.
WINNER and NEW CWA Holovision Champion: Randy "Macho Man" Savage (9:25) ***
