Still watching OSW, just got to Summerslam 1994 and the Owen/Bret cage match. What cage did you guys like better? I like the look of the blue cage and I feel a lot easier to climb out of. The fence cage looks really cool too and I see why they went to it.
What do you guys think?

I'm a blue cage guy, although the chain link one looks more forgiving and easier to transport.

I prefer the chain link one... But regardless of type of cage, I much prefer pinfall cage matches over the escape type. It never made sense to me that the winner was the guy who successfully ran away from the fight.

yeah I prefer the trap them in and beat them down and grab the victory instead of just leaving them there while you walk out. Chain link despite it forcing cameras inside the cage.

I still remember this first WWF Cage match I saw (Backlund vs Snuka in 82 on USA) and even as a kid, I was thinking “huh? He’s escaping to win? That’s stupid.”

It never made sense to me that the winner was the guy who successfully ran away from the fight. This. It made sense to me, it just wasn’t always executed properly. Battering your opponent into a bloody mess and leaving them lying in the middle of the ring as you exit the cage is the ultimate victory, Having pins in a cage match means you can win what is supposed to be a brutal fight with a roll up or some other kind of flukey pin. Where WWF went wrong but having everyone climb over the cage for dramatics.

I hear what you're saying, but then make it a "Last man standing" type thing where the loser is the one who can't answer a 10 count or something... Otherwise, you could have a person just lunge for the door right as the bell sounds and win without any contact at all... (I mean, I realize it's scripted, but it just ruins the "suspension of disbelief" for me... I mean, why WOULDN'T you do that?)

Going back to why I brought this up ... the OSW guys and even me re-watching the match, it is literally just Bret and Owen trying to escape non stop. Their mania match was better IMO and if this was a pin or submit INSIDE a steel cage i think it would have worked better!
