Just a reminder that wrestling can be a grubby, seedy business.

Just read some of the allegations against Quack and Icarus and if they are true, and let’s face it, his actions yesterday were those of a guilty man, then they deserve what they have gotten.

Hate to see CHikara go, maybe someday, someone will buy it and try to fix it. If so, it will never be known as Chikara again. That name will be an albatross.

And the reality is....both sports have been for years but we mostly ignored it back then. The saddest part is we were willing to “accept” it and not question it.

I haven't really been much of a follower of the NFL (or most pro sports) for some time, now, to be honest. A lot of that has to do with having a hard time with the cycles of poor behavior from players and owners alike... but even back in the 90s, I used to resent some of the shit that those guys would get away with. I've been a wrestling fan for ages. Going back to the very early 80s (I know that I'm a rookie by some accounts with some of my fellow promoters here haha) but there was a time back then that I really did keep my fandom to myself. Or at least separate from what most of my friends were into. Then in the 90s, it became the thing to be into and I got to "fly that flag high" so to speak. Lately, though, given all the scandalous crap going on I've been trying to hide my fandom again. I'm kind of ashamed, I think. It sucks that everything I have loved over my life seems to be full of flawed people. Maybe it's not the things that I love that attract flawed people so much as it is the idea that people can be flawed in any/every line of work?

Wow is a good way to put it. It’s really interesting to see how much the world has changed. I remember growing up watching movies like Animal House, Porkys, the American Poe movies and just thinking that stuff was the norm. Just boys being boys. I mean look at the WWF in the last 90s and early 2000s. I remember the stuff like Elizabeth taking her dress off, miss kitty flashing the crowd, the Vince and Trish segment (remember the crowd chants back in those days). A lot of the current wrestlers grew up watching this stuff as well and being taught this stuff was the norm.
I like the world is evolving and we are in some ways trying to I guess grow up. Treat everyone equal despite their race, gender, sexual preferences, sports team preferences or age. You only get one shot at this thing called life and your pursuit of happiness should never be made fun of or jeopardized. Some of the stories to come out are really sad but it’s also nice to some if the reactions that have happened as a result. Be mindful of what you have said and done iin the past and go beyond what you may have learned and strive to be better in a not so good world right now.

Every single human being is flawed. Everyone has said or done something hurtful or stupid or insensitive at some point in their lives. To expect something different out of people is just not realistic. Not a shot at you, more a shot at our culture's hero worship of celebrities and athletes. Without a doubt it's disheartening to hear though. I really think it's important to draw a line between your heroes accomplishments and their personal lives. There is a surprisingly large swath of society that only EVER looks out for themselves. If they can cheat someone else or outright steal from them without getting caught, you'd better believe they are going to do it. So if normal people do this and have this attitude toward life, so do those with power... or perceived power. We just have to expect it.

Just a reminder that wrestling can be a grubby, seedy business. Doesn’t necessarily mean the wrestlers themselves have to be grubby and seedy, though

Celebrities, athletes and musicians all seemed a lot more perfect before we got to “know” them on social media. We still want the mystique, but not the reality and that’s just not the way it works anymore, is it?

Wrestling, like so many other places have always had issues with things like treatment of women, racism, etc. While I honestly believe that most people are honorable, there are always those that will abuse their power. I do also think things these days are so much better than they used to be decades ago, but things get highlighted and shared so much more easily these days due to social media. I think we have come a long way, but also have so much more to do to make people feel safe and not be taken advantage of or discriminated against in many areas of society.
