Man I havent bought anything COTG since the Black Death storyline but decided to make my yearly random check of Filsinger games to find out there is a best of set. Not only that it includes new art for my all time favorite character Matador. The only question is do I put in a order for this now or just have my wife put in a giant order later in the year for Christmas that will will catch me up? Regardless this set will be mine. I think im going to dust my dice off tonight and finish off whatever years I still havent played.

Despite a minor "misdelivery" from the USPS, I got my set today. I spent some time comparing stats for most of the wrestlers. Some, I don't have prior cards for comparison, like Max Shield for instance. From what I can tell, it looks like all the cards have some adjustments, with the lone exceptin of the b/w Wolf repro, which is the point of that card. Even The Basilisk has a couple of changes. The changes made are interesting, and not uniform from card to card. Some wrestlers stats use their best card as a template, with minor adjustments. Others, still using their best cards as a template, are statistically the same, but with move names swapped. Others still are true amalgamations, taking the best of different versions of themselves. Doing the comparisons, for me, has been fun.
Something in the handbook stuck out for me. The original 1986 run of the first set was 500 copies. When that run sold out, before reprinting, Tom made some stat tweaks with some of the cards. Does anyone have info on what changes were made, and with whom? I'm assuming the changes were made because perhaps some wrestlers were not performing like Tom wanted them to, or Tom may have simply been correcting mistakes. I'd like to know more about this if possible. Has Tom "fixed" any other sets after an initial print run?
I've got my brackets lined up and I'll be starting my tournament later today. Eyeing up the cards, I'd expect the favorites to be Chaos, Monolith, or Endgame, but of course the dice may say different. This is a fantastic set and truly worthy, not only as a celebration of 50 editions of the franchise, but as a set that an be purposed for other things. Kronos for example. I'm glad I bought this. ๐

Monolith won my first TOC... Same here. Ran a quick tournament last night. Amazonia taking out Thantos was a bit of a surprise but her card seemed pretty stacked.

Biggest change was Vanity's PIN going from a 6 (3) to 7 (4). Actagon and Killer Queen had (ch G) or (ch H) moves on Level 2 Offense. The original set also had (ch G) and (ch H) as "out of the ring" instead of "deathjump" on the Choice Chart, so those two were throwing people out of the ring on Level 2 Offense! I remember playing a match with mikefortune at the first GalactiCon, and one of us rolled a (ch G) or (ch H). We started (politely) arguing about if it was an "out of the ring" or "deathjump" option. We pulled out our charts and we were both right! TOM was walking by and we asked him about it, and he nonchalantly said "Oh yeah, I made a few changes between printings!" and strolled away. Minds blown!!

Was able to play a 16-man tournament along with a bonus women's bout. Kept the first round matchups to the rivals listed in the handbooks. Got to say I love the mechanics for Basilisk, so unique. While he did not win he lost to the eventual winner, Aethran Overmaster.
Star Warrior was the other finalist as he was a fun card to play, sort of a cross between Sting and Chief Strongbow with his moveset. May post results in the Fed Section.

I ran a 16-man single elimination tourney last night - Monolith defeated Matador of M83 (love his artwork) in the finals. The Matador had a couple of come-from-behind victories in the tourney and had the crowd behind him. Hector (boo, hiss!) and Sly Drury were the others in my final four, and Amazonia beat Thrash in a separate 2 out of 3 match series. I'll probably do an 'impossible tournament' next with this set when time allows.

If we run multiple tournaments, do we keep adding to the poll?
