Card 47 - Millsop Community Centre, Weirton, VA
Fabulous Moolah def. Malia Hosaka with a JACKNIFE CRADLE – dud. It only took three moves for Moolah to pick up the victory. Moolah gets on the mic and makes it clear she intends to leave Madison Square Garden on the Women’s Champion after card 50.
Princess Victoria def. Melina with a CROSS BODY BLOCK - **. There was some break back and forth in this one before Victoria used a series of chops to gain control and picked up the crowd pleasing win with her finisher. Toni Rose & Beverley Shade def. Candi Divine & Susan Green when Shade pinned Green after a chop to chest - **. This could have gone either way with both teams getting their chances but in the end it was the ability to Rose & Shade to make more frequent tags keeping a fresh competitor in the action that lead to their victory when Green found herself left in the ring far too long.
Madison Rayne def. Rockin Robin with a scorpion death lock - **. Rayne took control of the this one early on ramming Robin into the ringside table but Robin proved tough to beat and even kicked out after a RAYNE CHECK but in the end Rayne had too many weapons tonight.
Jazz def. Tina Moretti in best of three falls match 2:0 - ** ½. The first fall was intense with both competitors looking to put their opponent away quickly but neither could find the win initially with the action spilling in and out of the ring until Jazz turned the momentum with a body slam to the floor. Jazz picked up the first fall with a fisherman’s buster. Moretti was quickly overwhelmed in the second fall and Jazz took the win in only four moves via submission with Southern Comfort.
Trish Stratus & Nora Greenwald def. Glamour Girls (Leilani Kai & Judy Martin) when Greenwald pinned Martin after a FLIPPLING SEATED SENTON - *****. This was an incredible battle from start finish that had a little bit of everything including unlike defensive tags (snake eyes rolls for the faces!) and the referee getting knocked down for ten moves. In the end, the Glamour Girls had exhausted their pins saves and Greenwald landed her finisher for the third time in the contest for the win.
Sherri Martel def. Women’s Champion Mildred Burke to win the title with a TOP ROPE SPLASH - ** ½. Martel managed to survive an early ALLIGATOR CLUTCH several other pin fall attempts to mount an impressive comeback that lead to the own finisher and the title change. The new champion is greeted in the ring by Fabulous Moolah who demands the first shot at the title. Burke takes exception and ends up exchanging blows with Moolah while Martel leaves with her title belt.

Card 48 - West Branch Area High School, Morrisdale, PA
Angelo Poffo def. Ron Hutchison by count-out - *. Poffo shocked many in attendance when he shook Hutchison’s hand at the outset which set the tone for this mainly scientific encounter that ended with an exchange of forearms on the apron and a backdrop that sent Poffo into the ring just as the referee reached his ten count.
Rock Riddle def. Vampiro with a BOSTON CRAB – dud. Riddle took control of this one after only a few moves and used a flying elbow drop to set up his finisher. Vampiro made the ropes to escape but Riddle went back to the BOSTON CRAB immediately and picked up what might be his biggest victory to date in the territory.
Mikey Whipwreck def. Lou Albano with a tornado DDT - **. Albano tried all of the tricks in the book but Whipwreck was more than ready tonight Albano could not deal with the speedy offense of Whipwreck.
Killer Kowalski def. “Iron” Mike DiBiase with a backbreaker - **. Kowalski is set to meet World Champion Ted DiBiase on card 49 but first he had to deal with the Champion’s father in a bout that turned out to be a lot closer than many expected with DiBiase actually getting a huge near fall after his TOP TOPE KNEE TO BACK but Kowalski had just too many offensive options and picked up the win.
Too Cool (Brian Christopher & Scott Taylor) def. Vachons (Mad Dog Vachon & Butcher Vachon) when Mad Dog Vachon refused to stop choking Christopher during a brawl on the floor - **. The speed of both Christopher and Taylor kept Butcher Vachon off balance but the largest competitor in the match managed to kick out after a HIP HOP DROP. Mad Dog Vachon took over the match and battered Christopher but could not put him away before the action went to the floor and Vachon’s anger got the best of him costing his team the win.
Al Snow w/Head def. Buddy Rogers with a SNOW PLOW - ****. This one had the fans on the edge of their seats the entire time as Snow pushed the Nature Boy to the brink hitting his finisher several times while avoiding the crafty tricks of his opponent before Snow was finally able to take control of the match tossing Rogers from the top of the corner to the mat and getting the win with his fifth SNOW PLOW of the match.
Flying Redheads (Red Bastien & Billy Red Lyons) def. Larry Hennig & Hugh Morris by disqualification when Morrus took out the referee with a clothesline during a brawl on the floor - *** ½. Morrus and Hennig might have wrestled their best match to date since teaming up as they had Bastien beat twice early on after a NO LAUGHING MATTER and THE AXE but Lyons made the pin saves that kept his team alive. The action was dominated by the power attack of Morrus and Hennig but in the end, Lyons ducked a clothesline outside the ring and Morrus took out the referee which proved to be the difference.
For a spot show, there were some serious upsets tonight.

Card 49 - Arena, New Haven, CT
Barry Windham & B.G. James battled Frank Dalton & Tommy Gilbert to a double disqualification - **. Windham and James really pushed the action particularly in the first half of the match but Dalton and Gilbert stuck around long enough to make things interesting including back to back ATOMIC DROPS from Dalton to Windham before the action ended up on the floor with a brawl between Gilbert and James that could not be contained leaving Morgan Dollar no choice but to throw the match out.
Vampiro def. Pampero Firpo by disqualification when Firpo rammed Vampiro into the ringside table knocking the contents and the officials to the floor - *. Vampiro had control of this one with his kicks before things spilled outside and the officials were sent fleeing for the lives. Both men traded blows after the match and the fight continued to the back.
Johnny Valentine def. Angelo Poffo with an ATOMIC SKULLCRUSHER - *. It was back and forth early on before Valentine went to another level of attack and unleashed his finisher three times in a row to get the victory while Morgan Dollar watched on.
Steve Corino def. Jack Brisco with an OLD SCHOOL EXPULSION - *. Brisco looked to be in complete control of this one but a superkick from Corino stopped his attack and moments later Brisco was defeated for the second straight time by Corino.
Flying Redheads (Red Bastien & Billy Red Lyons) def. Texas Hangmen (Psycho & Killer) when Bastien used a Boston Crab on Killer - **. The Redheads cut off Psycho from the outset of the match but the masked Texan survived a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK and SLEEPERHOLD from Lyons before Killer tagged into the action. He could get nothing going and soon was in as much trouble as his partner as the Redheads dominated this one and picked up the victory.
Jimmy Snuka def. Iron Sheik in a Fijian Strap Match with a SUPERFLY LEAP – dud. Sheik made the mistake of spitting on Snuka early on this one and Snuka exploded with headbutt that busted Sheik open before going to the top to finish off his foe. No one used the strap.
Killer Kowalski def. World Champion Ted DiBiase by disqualification when DiBiase Morgan Dollar caught DiBiase with his LOADED GLOVE - ****. This was an insanely bloody and violent contest. DiBiase struck first running Kowalski face first into the ring post busting him open. Kowalski managed to survive three FULL POWER SLAMS despite his massive blood loss before he smashed DiBiase with Dr. Mike Lano’s spare camera busting the champion open. Kowalski battered the champion but was not able to get the victory. Towards the end, both men were fatigued and DiBiase loaded up his glove but the experienced eyes of Morgan Dollar were not fooled tonight.

Beyond the Dice: I cannot believe how harsh the dice have been for Jack Brisco over the past few matches. When my Federation Management Chart brought in Buddy Rogers and Jack Bisco at the same time I was excited with the idea of both competitors making their way up the rankings until they would eventually battle over the top contenders spot. I had a best of five series in mind or at least a best of three falls match. However, Brisco’s star has failed to rise to the point where he has not even been booked for MSG. He will no doubt drop out of my top ten rankings. Brisco will need a reset if he even survives my next roster cuts/changes.
Surprising bust for me considering his card headlined a set.

Sometimes the dice just hate certain wrestlers. For me, he's been undefeated in a small selection of matches.

Card 50 – Madison Square Garden, New York, New York
Angelo Poffo def. Ron Hutchison with a NECKBREAKER – dud. No big upset for Hutchison tonight as this goes pretty much as expected with Poffo picking up a victory in the opener.
B.G. James & Barry Windham def. Frank Dalton & Doug Gilbert when James pinned Gilbert after a PUMP HANDLE SLAM – Dud. Gilbert was cut off from the outset and only a pin save from Dalton saved him after a LARIAT from Windham before James connected with his own finisher moments later.
Vachons (Mad Dog Vachon & Butcher Vachon) def. Too Cool (Brian Christopher & Scott Taylor) when Butcher Vachon used a backbreaker on Taylor - *. Taylor tried to get cute with a punch and dance but Mad Dog Vachon had other ideas and Taylor was never allowed to tag out in the match dominated by brothers from Algeria.
Mikey Whipwreck def. Lou Albano with a New York Street Fight after a WHIPPER SNAPPER - **. Plenty of action outside of the ring in this one as you would expect with Whipwreck controlling late and ending it with his finisher but not before using a chair to render Albano a bloody mess.
Buddy Rogers def. Al Snow w/Head with a pin using the ropes - *. The finish was controversial as Morgan Dollar failed to see Nature Boys feet on the ropes after both men cracked skulls during a charge into the corner that sent both men to the mat.
Larry Hennig & Hugh Morrus def. Soviets (Alexis Smirnoff & Nikolai Volkoff) when Hennig used THE AXE to pin Volkoff - *. Morrus and Hennig were on fire tonight and really took it to Volkoff who was never able to tag out of the match. Smirnoff saved his partner from the finishers of both Hennig and Morrus before Hennig landed a second finisher to end it.
Vampiro def. Pampero Firpo by disqualification when Firpo slammed Vampiro through the ringside table - * ½. Vampiro used his speed to keep Firpo on the defensive for most of the encounter that spilled outside twice before Firpo took things too far leaving Vampiro in a heap of chaos on the floor and the fans on their feet.
World Tag Team Champions Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) w/Paul Ellering def. Flying Redheads (Red Bastien & Billy Red Lyons) when Animal pinned Bastien after a DOOMSDAY DEVICE - ***. The contrast between the two teams was on full display in this one with the speed and agility of the challenger giving the Legion of Doom fits for most of the match but in the end back to back DOOMSDAY DEVICES destroyed Bastien and the pin save was blocked.
Johnny Valentine def. Steve Corino with a deathjump cross body - **** ½. This was a slow paced brawl that was hard hitting and bloody before it was all said and done. Twice, Corino attacked Valentine with the timekeeper hammer but Valentine kicked out both times despite being busted wide open and then mounted an impressive comeback for the win.
Fabulous Moolah def. Women’s Champion Sherri Martel with a JACKKNIFE CRADLE to win the title - ****. This was a back and forth barn burner with both women having moments to get the victory but Moolah made a strong comeback and used a combination of finishers to capture the title.
World Champion Ted DiBiase def. Killer Kowalski with a FULL POWER SLAM - *** ½. This was an intense and bloody battle that spilled in and out of the ring. DiBiase survived a KOWALSKI CLAW and later Kowalski kicked out after a LOADED GLOVE before the finish came in the middle of the ring.
Jimmy Snuka def. Iron Sheik in a Steel Cage Match with a SUPERFLY LEAP - *. This one did not last long as pair of backbreakers allowed Snuka to mount the cage and deliver his finisher much to the pleasure of the fans. After the match, Snuka grabbed the mic and demanded a shot at the World Title at the next Garden Show.

After a rough outing against Rock Riddle, I'm not really sure Vampiro has been able to find his balance... Sad state of affairs for the former champion... He's managed to chalk up to wins over the Wild Bull of the Pampas, but only because Firpo has allowed his erratic nature to take over and been DQ'd both times... Vampiro needs to embrace that killer instinct and make things happen once again.
Feeling your pain regarding the Jack Brisco situation... It's always a little sad when some of the really great competitors fail to perform... Hopefully, he'll be able to recover from this slow start and manage to make an impact in the future.
The MSG show was an absolute blast... Snuka remains one of my favorites when battling inside the cage... Even though the encounter was brief, I'm certain the crowd was thrilled to watch Superfly leap from the top of that cage... Awesome stuff, as always!
