I was psyched about AEW. Back in November, I made a new tradition of watching NXT on WWE Network followed by watching the edited Dynamite on YouTube. I gave up on AEW after 3 weeks. MJF is about the only bright spot for me. I give them credit for trying but I just can't get into it. NXT has also fallen off the rails in the last couple months. Thank goodness I have my Detroit Lions to keep me enter...oh nevermind.

I actually love AEW, but I've had to come to look at professional wrestling in a different way to get there.
I grew up the way I am sure a lot of you did. I watched Crockett NWA, I watched WWF on Saturday morning, I watched AWA and World Class on ESPN every day after school. That is wrestling to me. That will always be wrestling to me. That is what I buy bootleg DVD's of off the internet, and that is my passion when it comes to wrestling. That is why I love the Filsinger Legends Cards.
However, that wrestling business died sometime in the late 1990's. Blame the attitude era, blame Russo, blame the nWo, it doesn't matter. Kayfabe is dead. WWE is the only game in town, and the wrestling business is forever the worse for it.
However, I didn't want to give up. There is only so much of the old stuff you can watch at a time. I stuck with WWE as long as I could, but year after year the product just got worse and worse. Between the nonsensical storylines, the seizure inducing camerawork, and the nearly open disdain for their own fanbase, I just couldn't do it anymore. So I turned to the indies....
Ring of Honor was awesome for old school wrestling fans in the early days, but that product has gone to hell in the last few years. I enjoyed Chikara for quite a while, because even though the characters were ridiculous, the long term storytelling was amazing. But then sadly it went down hill quickly.
So that led me to realize that if everything I loved about the wrestling business was gone, I had to find something new to enjoy. That is when I got big into PWG. It is pretty much a super indy, where guys come and throw everything they have at one another and just do cool shit for the sake of doing cool shit. So, yeah while I will always enjoy watching 80's wrestling more than anything in the world, I became a movez guy, because if nothing else I liked about the business still existed, I could at least be entertained by how hard these guys worked and the cool stuff they were doing.
AEW is an extension of that. AEW brings me wrestlers that I haven't been exposed to week in and week out for the last 20 years like Orton and Miz, they do cool moves you don't see everywhere, the guys look like they are enjoying themselves, and unlike the WWE drones I don't have to hear buzz words and Vince speak non stop. Not to mention that I get to hear Tony Schiavone actually enjoying wrestling again instead of sounding like he wants to die at the end of WCW.
Is it ideal, No. But given the choice between AEW and my other choices for modern wrestling, I choose AEW. Unless someone has a time machine and wants to go to the Sportatorium.

I’m w you. To me, The Young Bucks to me are just are more athletic “evolved” version of the RnR Express. Wrestling has changed. We get 30 super kicks instead of 30 arm drag takedowns. More flippy shit from YB, cuz no one did it back then, but I’m sure RnR would’ve if it were the norm. It wasn’t. So they didn’t. But the Bucks are an evolution from RnR to The Rockers to Hardy Boyz. And I think their stuff is better than all of their predecessors by far. There’s nothing those any of those teams could do in the ring that YB can’t. But they did super kick a kid at a birthday party!

I don’t know. The Bucks are certainly great acrobats but I would not put them in the same category as those other wrestlers. I’d say the Briscoe Bro’s are a better example of a modern tag team who could have easily worked w the teams of the 80’s.

Bucks vs Omega & Page was the absolute epitome of in & out of ring long term story telling done to perfection. It should be the blueprint. Though because of so many elements & years invested, I doubt it could ever be duplicated or equaled. That’s a problem that some people have mentioned but I’ve never seen it. Lucha Bros series was another good recent example but nowhere near the same as omega & page. And when they get it on w FTR it’s gonna be epic. I certainly agree w the Briscoes though. They might be my favorite modern tag team. Dudes are great!

Started on the Jericho cruise and built so well to the Revolution match and the match itself and aftermath only built on it. The FTR storyline so far has been another well done story. Expect to see them finally fight at Full Gear. The contrasting styles should make for an interesting match. Another recent match of the Bucks I really enjoyed was the recent street fight with Butcher and the Blade. Really well scripted for fun moments. Not traditional rasslin by any measure, but very creative.

Yeah. Butcher and the blade match was so much better than I ever would’ve imagined. They (B&B) actually look pretty good lately, but I think that was their best match (brawl) they had.
