- Central States News & Notes -
- Larry Matysik starts off the show by announcing that the CSW Board has decided to recognize Rikidozan as the #1 contender to Harley Race's title in spite of the DQ finish to Rikidozan's match with Blackjack Mulligan.

- Matysik goes on to announce that tonight's main event spins out of that match as Rikidozan will team with Blackjack Mulligan to face their respective rivals, The Destroyer and The Spoiler!

- The board has also decided that enough is enough. The tensions between Roddy Piper and Bob Roop have run high and caused scenes on multiple cards. The two will finally meet one on one at the big Kiel Auditorium card on 12/25! But not before they meet in tag team action next week at the Chase with a partner of their choosing.

The debuting Tom Prichard gets a crack at the former NWA Central States Middleweight champ, 'Iron' Mike DiBiase.

This was a hotly contested bout with the rookie bringing it to the former champ, only for the tides to turn and DiBiase brings out a more aggressive side of himself. He battered Prichard to the mat and even scored a near fall after a big piledriver.

The resilience and tenacity of Prichard, however, did not go unnoticed. Hodge noted on commentary that Prichard looked good, and for him to come in and challenge a former champ this way says a lot, even if Hodge thinks DiBiase got lucky...

Prichard battled back, and the fans started to respond to his performance. But just as things started to turn around, the bell rang. The time limit expired!

Mike DiBiase is not happy and lays into Prichard after the bell, but is stopped as the champ jumps on the apron and stares DiBiase down.

DiBiase leaves the ringside area as Hodge gives the nod to Prichard and the fans applaud.

But DiBiase is back! And he's not alone! Bobby Shane runs in and attacks Danny Hodge! DiBiase clocks Prichard again and runs him into the post! Prichard is busted open. Hodge runs DiBiase off and helps Prichard to eh back while staring daggers at the self-proclaimed 'King'... Bobby Shane has a match... next!

Mike Graham vs. Bobby Shane
Bobby Shane defeated Mike Graham with a JAPANESE SLEEPER at 7:57
Match Rating: 3.00
Match Notes: Our second debut of the evening is Mike Graham, and he immediately took the fight to Bobby Shane. The match was a brawl early, and they spent so much time outside it was a miracle they weren't counted out.

Graham seemed to have a bone to pick with Shane over his attack on Hodge and was working his way up to victory, but Shane cut him off in the corner and exploded with offense. He would attempt the JAPANESE SLEEPER, but Graham escaped! Not the second time, though. Shane put him away with his finishing hold.

Before Shane could celebrate, the Middleweight champ was out, and if looks could kill...

Shane laughed on his way to the back as Hodge checked on Graham. Lots of friends and enemies made tonight, it seems...

- Bill Apter's "Hot Seat": The Kangaroos w/ 'Wild' Red Berry -
Bill Apter welcomes the new tag team champions, the Kangaroos, to the Hot Seat. It doesn't take long for Red Berry to start running down the Flying Redheads. It takes even less time for Red Bastien and Billy Red Lyons to make their way out, taking issue with the disparaging comments.

While Bastien confronts Berry, Costello and Heffernan pounce on Lyons! It was a trap! They bash him with their boomerangs and then perform their finisher, but instead of hitting him with their fist, Costello breaks the boomerang over Lyons's face!

Bastien rushes to his partner's aid, but the damage is done.

Jack Brisco and Jerry Brisco vs. Jake Milliman and Kenny Jay
Jack Brisco defeated Jake Milliman with a ROLLING REVERSE CRADLE at 4:39
Match Rating: 0.10
Match Notes: The Briscos first outing as a tag team in Central States was an exhibition of their skill, plain and simple.

Jack started things off against Milliman, and it didn't take long before 'The Milkman' was staring at the lights. Jay saved his partner from certain defeat, but Jack and Jerry worked the tag and double-teamed to perfection, and it was only a matter of time before Jack hit the ROLLING REVERSE CRADLE for the 1, 2, 3.

- NWA World Champion Lou Thesz via satellite -
Larry Matysik welcomes Lou Thesz via satellite. The impending match between Harley Race and #1 contender Rikidozan will determine Thesz's challenger at the Kiel show. Matysik asks Thesz's feelings on the challenge ahead.

Thesz comments that he's faced Rikidozan before and knows he's as tough as they come but can't say a bad word about Harley Race, and he may be even tougher than Rikidozan in and out of the ring.

Harley Race interrupts the interview and tells Thesz it's awfully convenient that he's hiding behind a screen and that all his compliments about Race's toughness won't save him from a beating when he comes to St. Louis.

Thesz tells him it's one thing to talk rough to a screen; it'll be another thing when Thesz comes to the Chase next week! If, and only if, Race can beat back the challenge of Rikidozan, will he get a shot at the most important prize in all of wrestling.

Blackjack Mulligan and Rikidozan vs. The Destroyer and The Spoiler
Blackjack Mulligan defeated The Spoiler with a DQ at 12:54
Match Rating: 3.25
Match Notes: Lots of heat here that's been building since Thanksgiving Thunder. Mulligan and the Destroyer started, and it was all 'Blackjack' as he brawled in and out of the ring, exacting some payback for the interference that cost him a #1 contender spot.

Rikidozan got his shot at his rival after being tagged in and nearly put him away with a HIPLOCK. Destroyer would battle back, though, and make the desperation tag to Spoiler.

The Spoiler took the fight to the #1 contender and looked great. Rikidozan was definitely in trouble as the Spoiler awed the crowd with his rope walking. A few near falls weren't enough to stop the Japanese star, though, and he bounced back to make a tag to Mulligan, and the crowd exploded at the prospect of these two squaring off again.

Blackjack manhandled him and scored a near fall after a strong lariat. He went for another cover after a big back elbow, but the Destroyer pulled him from the ring and smashed him with the ring bell!

The ref called for the DQ as Rikidozan came to his partner's aid and leveled the Destroyer with a series of chops! The Spoiler came out but was put down too!

Rikidozan got back in the ring, standing tall, and the Central States Heavyweight champ is here! Harley Race walks out and looks at the carnage wrought by this match, sizes up his challenger, and then cooly walks away as the show comes to a close.

Awesome! I was thinking of using the Destroyer and the Spoiler as a tag team, myself. Is this a permanent pairing for you, or a one-off?

Valiant Brothers vs. Kenny Jay & Jake Milliman
Johnny Valiant defeated Jake Milliman with a SUPER ELBOW at 4:25
Match Rating: 2.00
Match Notes: The Valiant Brothers made a successful debut in the territory by defeating the Gilberts, Tommy and Doug. Now they face the challenge of The Sodbuster and the Milkman. A win here could gain them another notch in the ranks and a more robust challenge next time around.

Johnny and Kenny started off and 'The Sodbuster' actually put up one heck of a fight. He had Johnny reeling on a number of occasions, and when he made the tag out to 'The Milkman', the team was ready to get some real momentum going.

It wouldn't last, though, and Jimmy Valiant put things back in the brothers' corner. A big SUPER ELBOW put Milliman away for the 3-count. Jimmy knocked Jay off the apron, and Johnny put the boots to Milliman after the bell. The Valiant's then strutted all over the ring as the fans booed.

Johnny Valentine vs. George South
Johnny Valentine defeated George South with a front facelock rollup at 2:50
Match Rating: 0.10
Match Notes: Valentine was in an aggressive mood this evening, and poor George South just happened to be the one in front of him. He's gunning for a match with Buddy Rogers after their short-lived team imploded, and Rogers has continued to make disparaging remarks against Valentine ever since.

Valentine nearly put South out with a sleeper hold in the opening moments, but South just made the ropes. Valentine kicked him out of the ring and then went on to smash him into the guardrail.

Back inside, another sleeper led to a front face lock rollup and a win for Valentine.

The word is, Valentine will get his match against Rogers at the big Kiel Auditorium show! The winner of that match could well find themselves in line for a title shot, too.

Hamilton Wrecking Crew vs. Jerry Brisco & Jack Brisco
John Tolos defeated Jerry Brisco with a FLYING KNEE DROP at 18:11
Match Rating: 3.75
Match Notes: The Briscos have struggled a bit since coming to Central States, but they're resilient competitors, and teaming up worked well for them in their first outing.

The Hamilton Wrecking Crew had already had one shot at the titles when the Flying Redheads were champs, but they certainly aren't ready to call it a day because they came up short there.

This was a great contest with both teams battling back and forth and seeking to grab the win with big moves. Of course, while the Briscos did all they could to keep it fair and square, the Tolos brothers decided there was only one way to win this match.

On multiple occasions, both John and Chris took the match outside and used questionable tactics to keep their advantage. Jerry Brisco took the brunt of this, and eventually, it was too much. A tag version of the Tolos brothers' famous FLYING KNEE DROP scored the win.

Jack had been knocked off the apron but quickly came back into the ring, and when John Tolos attempted to hit him with a forearm, Brisco responded with a pair of deep arm drags that sent Tolos out of the ring! Jack saw to his brother as the Hamilton Wrecking Crew made for the back.

- Bill Apter's "Hot Seat": Bob Roop -
Apter welcomes Bob Roop to the Hot Seat. Apter keeps his distance and has two officials in the ring with him. Roop smirks at them all, and then cooly walks up to Apter and takes the mic. He tells Apter not to worry, last time he got in the way, but since there's no Piper here, he won't go pushing Apter around.

Apter finds this dubious, at best, and still keeps his distance. He asks Roop about his upcoming match at the Chase and if he's decided on his partner yet.

Roop, again, plays it cool and says he has a partner, but everyone will have to wait until next Saturday to find out.

Apter asks about his match at the Kiel Auditorium with Piper, and Roop immediately tells him that match will only take place IF Piper can make it to the Kiel after what happens at the Chase.

When Apter presses for what that means, Roop tells him not to push his luck. At that comment, bagpipe music blares from the PA, and the crowd cheers as Roddy Piper makes his way out.

He gets into the ring, keeping an eye on Roop, and then grabs the mic from Apter.

"Bobby, let me make something perfectly clear to you... There ain't nothing you can do to me that ain's been done before... You try- you try to tell me that I might not make it to Kiel, well, Bob-o boy, I am beyond tired of running my mouth, good as I may be at it, and I am ready- I am ready to bring the fight to you, pal!"

Roop then hollers, "we don't have to wait until Saturday!" At that, a man in a hood comes from the crowd and smashes Piper with a crowbar! Roop lays into him with boots and then holds Piper up as the hooded man smashes Piper with the crowbar again! Blood pours down Piper's face. Roop then hoists him up and leaves him laying with a SHOULDERBREAKER!

Who is Roop's accomplice? Will Piper even make it to the Chase? Or the Kiel, for that matter?

Penny Banner vs. Lelani Kai
Lelani Kai defeated Penny Banner with a DQ at 2:30
Match Rating: 1.00
Match Notes: This had the makings of a great match. After hearing Penny Banner's impassioned words about a title shot, the board decided to grant her a non-title match. If she wins here, she'll get a shot at the Kiel show.

They see-sawed early, but Penny Banner took over in a big way, and after hitting a series of flying dropkicks, Kai was heading for the hills. Banner followed her out, and out of nowhere, Beverly Shade attacked Leilani Kai! The ref called for the bell and DQ'd Banner!

Penny couldn't understand it. Shade pointed to Judy Martin coming up behind Banner, and it looked like Shade had saved Banner from further trouble... But with her back turned, Shade assaulted Banner! It was a setup!

Martin puts the boots to Banner, too! Kai is up and joins in. All three continue the assault, and then Shade hits THE HAMMER, Kai then hits her RUNNING SPLASH, and finally, Martin hoists Banner up and hits the POWER BOMB through a table!

The crowd is shocked into silence as officials order the three to the back and medical personnel sees to Banner. Banner is stretchered out of Memorial Hall and taken to Truman Medical Center for treatment.

[Banner is out until February! Martin and Shade are suspended for 3 cards, and Kai is forced to defend her title against a challenger of Banner's choice! If she loses, she can't return until Banner does!]

Tom Prichard and Danny Hodge vs. Mike DiBiase and Bobby Shane
Tom Prichard defeated Mike DiBiase with a jumping knee drop at 2:13
Match Rating: 1.00
Match Notes: This tag match spins out of the action from the last Chase show. Prichard went to a time limit draw with DiBiase and impressed the Middleweight champ, Hodge. But after the match, Bobby Shane and DiBiase snuck in attacks on each, and Prichard ended up being busted open!

Prichard was a house of fire and took the fight to his new rival. He looked to tag Hodge at one point, but Hodge encouraged Prichard to keep at him.

A big jumping knee drop scored a quick 1, 2, 3, and Shane and DiBiase were shocked!

Shane was clearly looking to attack Hodge, but the champ was having none of it. Prichard and Hodge stood tall as DiBiase and Shane had no other choice but to head to the back.

Rikidozan defeated Harley Race with a THUNDEROUS CHOPS at 33:25
Rikidozan defeated Harley Race with a THUNDEROUS CHOPS at 35:10
Match Rating: 4.75
Match Notes: It has been made known that the winner of this bout will face Lou Thesz for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at the next Kiel card. Harley Race is intent on being the one to parlay his Central States title run into a World title run, but Rikidozan stands in his way. The Japanese star has wowed the Central States fans with wins over multiple quality opponents and a stellar run in the Wrestle Royal at Black Friday.

This match was incredible. Simply one of the great matches of this sport. They set a furious pace of back and forth action in the first 15 minutes, and it was truly anybody's game. Rikidozan went for any early fall with some blistering overhead chops, but Race followed up with a torturous Indian Death Lock that tested his challenger's mettle.

Continually see-sawing for over 20 minutes, Rikidozan finally seized control and began working over Race with big bombs. Race would try to rally, but Rikidozan cut him off again and again.

Finally, Race hit a back suplex out of nowhere and then another! He couldn't capitalize, though. Rikidozan blasted him with overhead chops and then a round of THUNDEROUS CHOPS! He practically fell on Race and got the first fall!

The audience was whipped into a frenzy after over 30 minutes of action. Rikidozan was clearly running on fumes, but Race was in a bad way, blood streaming from his face after an earlier spill outside.

Rikidozan gave his all, and less than two minutes into the second fall, he scored with another round of THUNDEROUS CHOPS to capture the NWA Central States Heavyweight Championship and a shot at Lou Thesz!

What a match!

A brutal assist by Roop's mystery accomplice has gotta have everyone wondering if Piper's mouth has finally written a cheque that his body can't cover... HA! Unlikely! I predict these two will tear down the house when they finally meet in the ring.

The Briscos continue to struggle with the Tolos brothers capitalizing on their sense of fairplay to score a big win... And congrats to Rikidozan on becoming the NWA Central States Heavyweight Champion... Awesome stuff!

- - Lou Thesz - -
Larry Matysik welcomes the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion to the Chase! Lou is set to face newly-crowned Central States champ, Rikidozan at the Christmas Kiel show.

Thesz is very respectful of Rikidozan's skill and calls him one of the toughest and hardest hitting competitors he's ever seen. He also acknowledges his technical skill and drive to be the best, as evidenced by his recent win over Harley Race for the Central States title.

This brings out Harley Race. Harley immediately tells Thesz he's lucky and Rikidozan's lucky. Because that's the only way he got beat, and it's the only way Thesz avoided getting beat by Harley Race, the greatest wrestler on God's green Earth!

Thesz tells Race it's funny because he carries a belt that says otherwise, and Race has none. As things start to get heated, Rikidozan makes his way out, but so does Larry Hennig. Officials can barely separate the four as champ and challenger seem to have one another's back against Race and Hennig.

A match is made for the main event: Race and Hennig vs. Thesz and Rikidozan!

Buddy Rogers vs. Ron Hutchison
Buddy Rogers defeated Ron Hutchison with a FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE at 5:45
Match Rating: 2.75
Match Notes: Hutchison put up a fight, but even a Kiwi roll wasn't enough to put the Nature Boy off his game.

Rogers dropped him with a piledriver and then applied his patented finishing hold for the submission victory.

Larry Matysik gets a word with Rogers after the match.

Rogers lets the whole world know that they might as well mark their programs because at the Kiel Auditorium on Christmas Night Johnny Valentine is going to be screaming and crying the same way Ron Hutchison is right now. Everyone would know that God's Greatest Gift to Wrestling is the Nature Boy!

- - The Glamour Girls - -
Kai and Martin are showered with boos. After their recent actions, Penny Banner has been sidelined with back and neck injuries until February at the earliest. They invite Beverly Shade to join them and Martin says sometimes Glamour needs a Hammer! Kai then tells the crowd that they put Penny Banner in traction! What can she possibly do to me, the NWA Central States Women's Champion?

Larry Matysik interrupts Kai to let her know that Banner has chosen Kai's next opponent as guaranteed by the board - the only reason that the three of them are not suspended for their vile actions. Kai laughs and says no one scares her.

Matysik smiles and says she should have no problem then... Because her opponent at the Kiel will be none other than Mildred Burke! The fans at the Chase love this announcement!

Martin and Kai are irate! Kai tries to compose herself as it looks like even Matysik is enjoying this as much as the fans.

Jack Brisco vs. John Tolos
Jack Brisco defeated John Tolos with a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK at 1:45
Match Rating: 0.10
Match Notes: Spinning out of their tag contest, this singles match pits Brisco and Tolos against one another again.

John Tolos attempted a hammerlock, but Brisco spun out of it, scooped Tolos up for an airplane spin. Brisco then hit a diving chop block from the second turnbuckle, applied the figure four, and scored the tap out win.

Chris Tolos stormed the ring, but Jerry Brisco cut him off as the Oklahoma natives stand tall. There's a good chance we could see a return match between the four soon.

- - Red Bastien - -
Red Bastien joins Larry Matysik at the announce booth and gives an impassioned promo about his partner's injury. But not to worry... Because Billy tells him he's going to be back and in fighting form by next week...

He tells the Kangaroos that after what they've done he went and did the only thing he could... he petitioned the NWA for a match at the Kiel. After reviewing the tape, they granted that match. And it won't be just any match... It will be a Texas Death Match for the NWA Central States Tag Team Titles!

- - Bob Roop - -
Matysik begrudgingly welcomes Bob Roop to the ringside area. Roop tells him it's a happy day - a happy day indeed. He tells Matysik that they should roll the footage of what he did to Piper. The Hot Seat footage from Memorial Hall shows Piper bleeding and hurt after Roop's devastating shoulder breaker.

When we come back, Piper has come out, his arm in a sling, looking dejected. Roop laughs at him, and Piper confirms that he's suffered an injury and that he won't be able to fight again until this sling comes off...

Roop celebrates the fact that he put Roddy Piper out of action! He couldn't be happier, and that it'll be a long, long time before we'll have to see or hear from him again. Roop turns his back on Piper and tells him that he's going to give him until the count of 10, and if Piper is still there when he turns around, he'll put him out of wrestling forever.

Piper stares at the back of Roop, almost in tears, it seems. He turns around, hanging his head, and begins to walk away. As Roop gets to 8, Piper turns around and walks back, the very picture of defiance.

Roop hits 10 and turns around. He laughs at Piper, but Piper smirks and removes a blackjack from the sling! He waffles Roop with it and then takes the sling off and throws it down! He lays into Roop repeatedly, but the hooded man makes his way out!

Wait! Piper's got backup! Bob Orton Jr.! Orton lays into the hooded man and rams him into the ring apron and then unmasks him! It's Dick Hutton!

Piper has the mic as he and Orton stand tall!

"I done told you, Roop! You do not throw rocks at a man with a machine gun! Hurt me?!? Hurt me!?! Bob, I've been blasted by better bastards than you, and I'm still standing. So what do you say you and your Dirty Dick meet me and my Ace on Christmas night and see what happens! You wanna put me out? Well, you better bring hell and napalm with you!"

Rikidozan and Lou Thesz vs. Harley Race and Larry Hennig
Rikidozan defeated Larry Hennig with a HIPLOCK at 21:52
Match Rating: 4.00
Match Notes: This was a great tag match. Rikidozan and Race started things off and went back and forth before Thesz was tagged in. Race gave as good as he got, and there were folks in the crowd wondering if Race wouldn't have given the World Champ a run for his money.

Thesz was on the ropes, and Race hit the VERTICAL SUPLEX for a 2-count. The champ came back, though, and nearly got a flash pin off the ropes and then hit the THESZ PRESS for another 2-count.

Eventually, it came down to Hennig and Rikidozan, and Hennig was impressive up until he went for a series of chops. Rikidozan got fired up and nailed Hennig with a huge overhead chop and began punishing the Minnesota native.

The action spilled outside when Hennig tried to escape the number one contender, but Rikidozan wouldn't let up. Back inside, Rikidozan stretched him with a Boston Crab, dropped him with a headbutt, and then locked in the HIPLOCK!

Thesz cut off Race, and Hennig had no choice but to tap out!

Thesz and Rikidozan stood in the ring victorious, but the mood changed when they turned their attention towards one another. Rikidozan went nose-to-nose with the champ, but Thesz certainly didn't back down. This is the scene as the show comes to a close.

Overall Card Rating: 2.28

[Pariah]

That main event looks like it blew the roof off the Chase... As much as I enjoy the team of Handsome Harley & The Axe (my own current tag champs), I often feel the workload is a little uneven... Race has all the tools to be the top man of any promotion which raises the question - How long can he coexist with any tag team partner? That being said, let's not detract from the great performance by Thesz and Rikidozan... These two are on a collision course and I cannot wait to see who's holding onto the gold when all is said and done.

Speaking of explosions... Hot Rod has got the Ace Cowboy watching his back and they're prepared to go to war with Roop and Hutton... Let the bodies hit the floor!

Big win for Jack Brisco... Comes not a moment too soon... And Penny Banner has picked one helluva challenger for Leilani Kai... Something tells me that we might see the crowning of a NEW NWA Central States Women's Champion real soon... And her name is Mildred Burke... Oh, snap!

Another excellent show, my friend... Fun times!

Hamilton Wrecking Crew vs. Jack Brisco and Jerry Brisco
- The rivalry between these two teams is heating up. This confrontation could lead to more matches down the line, or the Hamilton Wrecking Crew could find themselves in a position to challenge for the titles.

Buddy Rogers vs. Johnny Valentine
- These two used to team up, but Valentine took their last loss out on his partner. The past month has seen these two trade barbs and blows leading to this match. The winner could be in line for a title shot!

- - Claw Match - -
The Spoiler vs. Blackjack Mulligan
- One of the most explosive feuds of the past month, these two look to settle things one-on-one in a match that can only be won by the application of their deadly finishing hold.

- - Grudge Match - -
Bob Orton Jr and Roddy Piper vs. Dick Hutton and Bob Roop
- Another feud that has reached a boiling point, Piper and Roop have found partners to bring this to the next level. Roop and Hutton - in disguise - were responsible for injuring Piper, but the Rowdy one came roaring back with an Ace up his sleeve. Something tells me this one won't end the rivalry but may add more fuel to the bonfire.

Mildred Burke vs. Lelani Kai (c)
for the NWA Central States Women's Championship
- Leilani Kai, Judy Martin, and Beverly Shade - now known as the Glamour and the Hammer - put Penny Banner out of action for 10 weeks. But Banner was awarded the opportunity to decide the challenger for Kai's Women's Title. Banner chose the best wrestler she could find, Mildred Burke! Kai is livid, but will Burke have someone to watch her back? After all the underhanded tactics the Glamour & the Hammer have used over the past month, she better.

- The Kangaroos had a rocky start to the month but recaptured their titles, reunited with their manager, and then put Billy Lyons out of action for a couple of weeks. The Redheads not only want the titles, but they would love the chance to leave the Kangaroos bloodied, battered, and broken on top of it.

Lou Thesz (c) vs. Rikidozan
for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship
- Rikidozan bested Harley Race for the Central States title to earn this shot at Lou Thesz. This legendary matchup broke the rating scale in Japan, and it's sure to sell out the Kiel. Both men are approaching this contest as sportsmen. The fans can expect to see an incredible bout between two of the best in the world today.

TTX Bobby Shane is a guy I didn't know a whole lot about until he got a card and I read Gary Hart's book. Before that, I was aware of him at best - knew he died in the plane crash that Hart, Austin Idol, and Buddy Colt survived and that he gave Lawler the crown, but that was it. He'll always be one of those great what-ifs. RIght up there with Magnum, really. I love using him and enjoy having him around CSW.
