This year at Galacticon, there will be a huge focus on tournaments...as there rightly should be. With that, there will be a new format for the Galacticon Cup Qualification.
As usual there will be 8 people that qualify for the Galacticon Cup tournament. The winner gets his name engraved on the cup with his winning wrestler. In the past, all tournament winners from the weekend were eligible to compete in the tournament.
This year there will be 8 qualifying events: 1. GWF Trivia Royal Rumble 2. Canada Cup Tournament 3. GWF Current Roster Singles Tournament 4. LOW Singles Tournament 5. aCe Special Matches Singles Tournament 6. POW MMA Tournament 7&8. 2 Tournaments Selected by the COTG community in the poll above.
Each tournament will have 32 slots, an there will be a signup sheet for each tournament. JMello (of OhioCon fame) will be running the operations for these tournaments.
Any other tournaments played over the weekend, including the Comic Book Shop Tournament, Hardcore Tournament and any others will qualify for the new Interplanetary Title Tournament on Sunday.
We have structured in extra game play time this year, so there should be plenty of time to get in lots of playing this year. I think this will be a great change and the Galacticon Cup title will mean that much more.

Much as I like tag teams, they can take too long. GWFZ singles and all time.

Looks like the 3 I thought would be in contention are. It will be interesting to see which one misses the cut.

I would like to appeal to The Tournament Master and to the fans coming to GalactiCon... I have an idea for a LOW Tournament that is... well, unique... and I'd like to run it this year.
My idea is to have the first ever LOW Draft Tournament. My idea is as follows.
1) Each person entered in the tournament gets three draft picks to use. Draft order will be determined at random, and the draft will be in serpentine format (for example, it will go 1-12 the first round, 12-1 the second round, and 1-12 in the third round). PICKS CANNOT BE TRADED (you sillynannies!)
2) Each person will select any one wrestler card with their pick. They can select from any one of the fine LOW sets published by Filsinger Games, including the NEW set coming out at Galacticon! I may or may not have the SE cards in a group - we'll see. No bootlegs will be allowed. They can make their picks, with one MAJOR stipulation... You can only select ONE CARD per set. For example, if you draft Road Warrior Animal, you CANNOT draft Road Warrior Hawk because he is in the same set. Once a wrestling card or set is picked or eliminated, that's it.
3) Once each player has their three selected cards, they will have 60 seconds to determine which two will be entered into a tag team tournament, and which one wrestler will be entered in a singles tournament. Given the range of superstars available, we could see some of the most unique and anticipated matchups and tag team imagined!
4) All players will play each other for points under standard Galacticon Match Rules. A player earns 10 points for a pinfall or submission victory. A player earns 5 points for a count out or disqualification victory. A player earns 0 points for a loss.
5) Once all players play in their singles and tag matches, the player with the most points will be delcared the LOW Draft Tournament Winner. In case of a tie, there will be a Sudden Death Six Man Steel Cage Match to determine the undisputed winner. In addition to winning the award (and quite possibly some cool swag), the winning player will get to choose any of their three wrestlers they drafted to compete later on in the tournament.
What say you?

Mr. Jimmyface, my main concern is time. I don't know if that is a feasible idea with the time frame we are working in. Plus, as a new feature, if it comes to fruition, it may be best if this year, it was entered in the newly established ranks as an Interplanetary Qualifier. Just an idea.

The idea was to go ahead with straight forward tournaments to decide the competitors for the Galacticon Cup. Speaking of which, we have a tight race. I may need to have 9 qualifiers and then have the 8 tournament competitors and an alternate. We'll see if voting picks up any more.

Time will certainly be an issue. It's going to be tough to squeeze 8 tournaments in as is (why we usually shun tag tourneys as well)
